Romeo's is the bomb! A little piece of Rome in the heart of Haarlem. As soon as you walk in, you can smell the freshly baked bread and know they mean business here. The sandwiches are spectacular: homemade bread, warm and crunchy, quality cured meats and cheeses, and true Italian flavors. But the best part is them. Behind the counter is a super friendly Roman family: they work, joke, slice, bake, make coffee, and manage to make you feel at home within five minutes. A wonderful Italian hubbub in the middle of Holland! If you're passing through Haarlem, you have to go there. Sandwich, coffee, a chat with the guys, and for half an hour you'll completely forget you're in Holland.

Wonderful tiramisu, just like my mom used to make! If it was my favorite dessert, now it's even more so. Highly recommended!!!

Real Italian atmosphere, and hella tasty. 1000% worth the short wait. Ordered doubles to take home for dinner. The bread is freshly baked in the same day, the mozerella comes straight from the cow, the meat is put generously and is cut on site. Love how fresh all ingredients are, and would almost tell you not to go, so there is more for me 😋

Eating here took me back to Italy, probably the best food I've eaten in Haarlem. Couldn't be run by nicer people too, an Italian family that runs it together. They're fast paced and busy every time I entered but they really see and connect with their customers despite it, the whole experience with the food and restaurant felt very personal. They source their ingredients from Italy as well. Also came back and enjoyed their lasagna, which I took for later and warmed at home!

Amazing Italian sandwiches and lasagna from a Italian family owned business from Rome. Can't get any more authentic than that. They’re very sweet, generous and hospitable. You can tell there’s love and passion in everything they do. Food wise, everything I’ve had is a 10/10.

The food is amazing! The bread is delicious and the lasagna is excellent as well. Really Italian style. The place is always crowded, but they are super fast with the service, very well organized and always smiling. Highly recommended! Bravi!

If everyone gives 5 stars, you really can't be left behind. And it is more than deserved. Baked-fresh bread, good ingredients, nice people, and a good system. You do have to wait fifteen minutes, but it is completely worth it.

I’ve been coming here as a regular for the last few years and omg are these sandwiches incredible! There is almost always a queue, but the employees still take the time for any adjustments and if it’s a bit quieter also a lovely chat! I learned this way that the bread is homemade by one of the owners, starting at 4am!! you can really taste the love!❤️ If you want to eat the best sandwich with the warmest hospitality without paying for a flight to Italy, look no further😍 Also the best tiramisu I’ve had in the Netherlands!!!

The homemade bread is always soft and fresh. The menu is small, but almost every sandwich can be customized, and the staff are always incredibly kind and happy to adjust the toppings to your preferences. I’ve been here many times over the past year, and whenever I’m in Haarlem, I always stop by. Whether it’s a quiet day or there’s a long line, the service is always consistently friendly and attentive. The Shop is very small !

Went out for dinner at this lousy place today. I ordered 2 Prosciutto sandwiches for myself and my mate. After waiting 15 minutes, we finally had the 2 (promising) sandwiches shoved into our hands, took the first bites, and left it at that. The bread itself was okay but nothing special; otherwise, it was ridiculously salty and dry. The mozzarella had absolutely no flavor. Additionally, I would like to mention that the lady behind the counter came across as very nice, hence the 2 stars.

Incredible sandwiches served in their homemade ciabatta, which they bake themselves. Almost every time we plan to have coffee and dessert somewhere nearby, we end up here with a sandwich instead — and we’ve never once regretted it. The coffee is also really nice. The service is absolutely lovely, it feels like coming to visit friends who are genuinely happy to see you. I absolutely love the porcini, but the verdure with extra burrata is also something special.

Got a prosciutto sandwich with my buddy. Honestly, inedible. The bread itself was okay. The topping was bizarrely salty and dry. Also, the mozzarella had 0.0% taste. A real shame. I never throw food away if I've paid for it, but this really wasn't good. They shouldn't call this an Italian place. Once and never again🫠.

We got a few sandwiches here during a weekend in Haarlem. They were delicious, every single one of them! And what struck me was how friendly the staff were; thanks to their pace, the sandwiches were ready quickly, so we didn't have to wait long. It was funny to experience a long line to order and those waiting for their sandwiches standing outside on the street (but thanks to the efficient work of the staff, it went quickly). Cozy atmosphere! It's impressive how you run such a small place and handle the crowds in such a relaxed way. Keep up the good work!

We heard a lot about Romeo’s focaccias and how great they are. So we finally tried it out!Perhaps our expectations were too high, because it wasn’t the best focaccia we ever had. It’s good though. The store is vibrant, very crowded during the lunch time, the price is good, the bread is fresh and soft while still have some crunch, and with the filling it also tastes good. But we expected a well filled sandwich and a bit bigger bread. The size is on the smaller side when you compare it with many other places that serve focaccia. They are usually more expensive so it’s compensated. But the amount of filling is often more than what I got today, so those two points resulted in a bit of a disappointment. We tried their number one and two most ordered focaccias: Mortadella speciale and Coppa di Parma. Long story short, good sandwiches with still some improvements!

This sandwich shop in Haarlem was recommended to us. It must be very good, because people were lined up two deep, stretching far out the door.

This is really an amazing place in Haarlem. The focaccia and ingredients are authentic and the combinations are delicious. Next to that, the owners and staff are amazing. It is a "hidden gem (not so hidden anymore because everybody loves it here and is always busy) and must visit in Haarlem. The service is great and for my girlfriend's birthday they went above and beyond to surprise her. AMAZING! GRAZIE MILLE.

The Verdure sandwich (vegan) was the best sandwich I have ever eaten! I went back the very next day! And it was only 6.50 for a really tasty, big sandwich.

It’s a very nice place with kind and helpful staff. Despite the absolute chaos in the shop, they still took the time to advise us on the ingredients for our sandwiches. We had asked for them to be warm, but we explained that we would eat them about 15–20 minutes later, as we planned to enjoy them outside along the canal since there was no seating available inside. They suggested which ingredients to choose to avoid things like the mozzarella releasing water and affecting the texture over time. It honestly felt like being in Italy, with a stunning sunny view over Haarlem. The wait was around 20 minutes, there was a long queue, but in the meantime, we had a good cappuccino, the tiramisu was delicious .

We waited over 30 minutes for a takeaway lasagna, and received it cold. Apparently, they serve it like this. Keep this in mind, take only if you can warm it up at home. We had no idea, the label on it was not clear. Sandwich was not for my taste. But everyone is different. Maybe will be good for someone else. Focaccia was delicious.

I got a Caprese sandwich here with a friend and it was really, really delicious. It has plenty of toppings and the bread itself is already very tasty. We had to wait a little while, but it was definitely worth it considering how good it was. The service was good too.

I trained as a barista and these guys know how to make a superior espresso! Which ofcourse being Italian is there expertise anyway! I have eaten regularly and every time am met with warm smiles and actually quiicker service than some other fastfood places! The food is always fresh and the dynamic is always one of a bustling atmosphere compared to the disinterested horeca often in Haarlem! I don’t do social media and don’t follow the influencers with their agendas to become rich and often slag off decent establishments. In general a great alternative in Haarlem for a quick meal and with simple menu just fine! Seating however is limited

Absolutely delicious sandwiches, despite a long wait.

On my daughter's recommendation, I ate a truly delicious fried pork belly sandwich here. The place is run by real Italians, and you can taste their love for food here. A really super fresh sandwich, well-topped with all kinds of delicious cured meats, mozzarella, etc. Also delicious pizza and lasagna. It is quite busy though. A really great place, the service is incredibly friendly, and the cotto sandwich was delicious. You do have to wait a bit during the busy lunch hour, but the atmosphere in the shop is super cozy, so sitting for a while is absolutely no problem! And the generously filled sandwiches are more than worth it ;) The coffee was also great, and the staff was extremely attentive!

Local legend !! I'd say one of the best sandwiches I've had in my lifetime! And that's basing it only on the Vegan options ( can't do meat coz of Halal). I did speak to a kind member of the staff who mentioned that Halal may be a future option ( as long as they can avoid cross contamination) - this shows concern and knowledge about customer preferences. Highly recommended!! If in Haarlem - do not miss!

This is a small Italian bakery, but the food was surprisingly good! This time, we ordered the staff's recommended and most popular Porchetta Romana (€9) – it contained fragrant roasted pork, a slightly tangy tomato tapana sauce, and fresh arugula, resulting in a refreshing and layered flavor. The bread, freshly baked in-house, was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect for sharing between two people – truly delicious. I heard this shop usually has long queues, but we were incredibly lucky; there was almost no wait. Their €3.50 mini pizzas also looked appealing, but we were already full after our sandwiches, so we'll have to save them for next time. There aren't many seats inside, but some are for dine-in, and you can also sit on the chairs outside for a quick bite. Overall, the prices are reasonable, the food is excellent, and it's the kind of small shop I'd definitely revisit if I were to come back to Halle.

Saw the place on tiktok and went yesterday. The service was the highlight for me. Warm, friendly and with the most smiles I have seen in f&b in a while. Admittedly not the biggest fan of Italian sandwiches I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the flavour on my sandwich (Porchetta Speciale) and my wife’s Caprese with extra burrata. The coffee was potent hehe. Good experience overall. Go and check them out!!

The porchetta sandwich was probably the best I've ever had. Delicious fresh ciabatta. It's so delicious, even without anything on it. No sauce, of course, which is absolutely unnecessary. Don't come during lunchtime, because everyone in Haarlem will be there. The staff works incredibly hard, and orders are processed quickly. I would have preferred the porchetta to be a bit thicker. But that's just nitpicking. All in all, a delicious sandwich.

It's a shame an influencer has been here, sometimes causing long lines, but I live nearby so I can manage it a bit. The service is great and always friendly. I couldn't manage it in such a crowded little place where there's little space behind the counter. The line is long, but the sandwich preparation is remarkably efficient. My favorite, the pork belly with arugula, is quickly made, packaged, and delivered with a friendly smile. Quickly get out of this madhouse and home to savor every bite. See you soon!

Truly Italian, price €8–12/sandwich. And well… Dutch people just love bread, so I understand the long lines 😉✨

Best sandwiches in the Netherlands

Easily the best focaccias I have eaten in the Netherlands! The Mortadella is amazing. It strikes a perfect balance between creaminess and meatiness. Also tried the Porchetta Speciale, which is also reallt good and fresh, but I prefer the Mortadella. Definitely a visit worthy if you are in Haarlem or in the neighborhood of Haarlem!😃
