Rosto in Binnenstad-Noord

We dine out frequently, even at top restaurants. But our evening at Rosto stood out head and shoulders above the rest this year. Michelin-starred, beautifully presented, and intensely flavorful. The vegetarian menu is also absolutely worth a try. Friendly staff, and it's especially nice to be able to peek into the kitchen. Highly recommended!

We went for a 7 course dinner. It included the following: Halibut with smoked eel & horseradish. Seabass with lardons. Lamb with baba ganoush & artichoke. Rendang stew with pumpkin chutney. Cheese course. Dessert with basil sorbet & rhubarb. The food was very nice. A bit heavy on the foam side and therefore a bit repetitive, but the taste was good. No extraordinary tastes, the most spectecular was the basil icecream. Some of us had the full wine glasses and some half. We didnt see the difference. The half was 3 small sips and so was the full. This was a bit dissapointing. The first time we notified the waiter that both were equally full so he gave 1 sip extra to the full glass people, but the next courses it was the same again. For water you had to partly pay. Also beware that bread to start with also includes 21 euro ham which we were unware of, and which we would not have ordered if we knew since some of us were vegetarian. All in all, food was nice, not overly special, but good, especially in combination with the greedy wine pouring it felt on the expensive side with +/- 180 euro pp.

Had a lovely lunch. We went for the extensive 3 course lunch with matching wines, good service, delicious food. We would love to come back again.

Ik heb al een aantal recensies geschreven, maar kan het toch niet laten om nogmaals een bijdrage te leveren waarin ik mijn bewondering en verbazing mag uitspreken. Mijn bewondering uit zich in het feit dat Robin Stoof als chef elke keer weer weet te verrassen met combinaties in smaak en textuur. Geloof me, dat is echt een opgave bij een ongelooflijk kritische gast als ik ben. Mijn verbazing wordt elke keer, als we bij Rosto beter lunchen of dineren dan bij welke uitspanning in Leiden en omgeving dan ook, groter gezien hun onbegrijpelijke afwezigheid bij de Lekker, de Gault Milliau of zelfs de pollepelverkiezing van de plaatselijke krant. Wat de "experts" u ook trachten wijs te maken, in leiden en omstreken is er geen betere chef te vinden.....punt ! Chefs van de Moerbei, La Tour, 't Ganzenest, Central Park, in den doofpot en van alle omhooggeschreven, maar niet gedecoreerde, etablissementen in leiden zouden heel even bij chef Stoof een vorkje moeten gaan prikken. Hij begrijpt hoe goede ingrediënten te combineren tot een mooi gerechtje, waar smaak Koning is en moderne fusion ongeëvenaard samengevoegd word met klassiek technisch koken op het hoogste niveau. Wij blijven hier komen en hopen dat het publiek dat zoekt naar een plek waar echt goed gegeten kan worden in Leiden en helaas haar keuze laat bepalen door de social media ons serieus neemt en een keer bij Rosto gaat lunchen of dineren. U gaat hier geen spijt van krijgen; sterker nog, u wordt ook een ambassadeur.....

Friendly staff, nice place. No pretensions, very nice pleasant ambiance. Ate during restaurant week. Nice dishes, special combinations well seasoned. Allergies were taken into account very carefully. Vegetarian dishes were also very good and no problem with lactose allergy. Chefs looked very involved. Wine and non-alcoholic wine was tasty. A nice evening spent.

From the first course we were simply thrilled! Every single creation on the plate was a true explosion of taste - with so much sophistication that we couldn't stop marveling. What was special about the presentation: Each dish felt like three different ones in one, because the ingredients were served in different variations so that you could discover a new facet with every bite. We were particularly impressed by the selection of different types of fish, which were all to the point and yet worked harmoniously together. The wine selection was also excellent – ​​perfectly balanced and simply delicious. Rosto manages to provide a dining experience that impresses from start to finish. ⭐ Conclusion: If you are looking for an exceptional and creative fine dining experience, you have come to the right place. Absolute recommendation!

Wat zijn wij verrast door de kok en bijzonder vriendelijke bediening. Prachtig opgemaakte borden met erg mooie gerechten en smaken! Bijzonder lekkere wijnen bij elk gerecht en een fijne uitleg erbij.

Fantastic. The 5-course menu was adapted for Celiac disease (gluten intolerance). It was a real pleasure.

We had a fantastic lunch here on Sunday with 4 people. We took the 5 course chef's menu. The food was very good, the service was top notch and the interior is nice and warm inside.

Delicious lunch this afternoon, delicious wines, nice service and cozy atmosphere and also a nice terrace outside in nice weather of course.

Great atmosphere and warm welcoming staff. The dishes all had nice flavours, but the downside was the inconsistent timing of the courses coming out, and also with some being a touch cold or overcooked. Very enjoyable, but just fell a tiny bit short on the food (especially when the bill was approx 120euro/person).

My girlfriend and I have now made it a hobby to visit as many fine dining restaurants as possible. Although we have walked past Rosto many times, I only recently noticed the restaurant. We visited it last week. I didn't think the room was great acoustically. It was quite reverberating, making it difficult for us to hear each other and the staff. The lighting could also be tweaked to make it a little more atmospheric. The service was great. It's always nice to see a young team sharing a passion together. Everyone did their best to take care of everything. However, some wines could be served a little earlier before the meal. The food was superb. Surprising and tasty. Afterwards, when we compared the experience with all our previous experiences at other favorite restaurants, we can only conclude that Rosto definitely serves the best food in Leiden and may even be one of our best dining experiences so far. We are pleasantly surprised, see you next time

You would like to have a reason to eat here every night... What a party!! Delicious dishes with matching wines, in a word ENJOY!!! And all this in a cozy atmosphere with staff who know what they are serving, and the guys from the kitchen (which you can look into) also come and serve themselves and explain what is on your plate. And those plates always look like a painting!! Chapeau guys, if we are in the area we would love to come and eat with you again

For the first time in Leiden and had dinner at Restaurant Rosto. In one word, great, delicious dinner @thechefstable, beautiful flavors, pure and bickering in the kitchen! As it goes...It was certainly not a 'Leidensweg', we will come back here!

Restaurant Rosto is amazing. Everything is wonderful. The menu, the restaurant in an old building. It’s not very big nor very small, it’s just perfect. The food is amazing and so are the accompanying wines. The food cannot be compared to anything else. The chef and his team prepare such great food, it’s original, a feast of tastes and very original. The chef comes and talks a bit at every table. The sommelier is very well educated and friendly, as they all are. The menu they serve is set, the only thing you have the choose is how many courses you would like to eat. I personally love the 6 course dinner and the accompanying wines, they fit the menu perfectly and the guests have a choice whether they would like a glass or half a glass with each course. Vegetarian food is available and dietary wishes are welcomed. It is my favorite restaurant in the world. And I have travelled a lot. I also am lucky to live in Leiden, so I can go back whenever I have sometimes to celebrate. So far 3 times in 15 months.

As I live in Leiden I have eaten here 3 times already, within 15 months. The restaurant has more or less the same menu for a few months, then they change the menu and the only choice you need to make is how many courses you would like to have. They offer vegetarian alternatives as well. I have had both the 7 course dinner and the 6 course dinner. It offers the most creative tasteful dishes and the wine arrangement is perfect to accompany the food. Service is excellent, relaxed in the best way, and we have had the most fantastic evenings here. The chef comes by to talk a bit and is very friendly. Also the sommelier does a great job and so so the serving people. I already am looking forward to the next visit here.

We sloten een mooi dagje Leiden af met een heerlijke dinerervaring bij Rosto. De chef creëert met eerlijke ingrediënten en veel creativiteit smaakbommetjes, die bovendien een lust zijn voor het oog en worden gecombineerd met verrassende wijntjes. Genieten van begin tot einde! Het zaalteam is professioneel: vriendelijk, flexibel (je kan je etentje vb. op terras starten en later op de avond naar binnen gaan, flexibele wijnformules), behulpzaam maar niet opdringerig; je voelt je vanaf het eerste moment welkom. Doordat we en plaatsje kregen aan de chef's table konden we het geoliede keukenteam aan het werk zien en (na de service) een aangename babbel doen met de chef. Bonus is de ligging aan het water, die je bij een zonnige dag een instant vakantiegevoel biedt. Kortom: proficiat aan het ganse team; Rosto is een absolute aanrader en we wensen de zaak nog een mooie toekomst toe!

We had dinner at Rosto, what an attractive atmosphere. Immediately upon entering you are welcomed by very friendly staff who take your coat and arrange a stool for the ladies in the group so that the handbag does not have to be on the floor. The dishes not only look photogenic, but they are also real flavor bombs. For each dish, it is very accurately explained what flavors are included in the dish, and even with a very complicated allergen list, chef Robin Stoof knows beautiful variations in this. he didn't turn his back on this and saw it as a challenge. Perfection is of paramount importance at Rosto, which is reflected not only in the dishes but also in the staff and the care of the building, it is clean, tidy and very well maintained. This means that we had a wonderful and very enjoyable evening, as far as we are concerned this restaurant is worthy of a Michelin star! For anyone who wants to get acquainted with the world of fine dining, I would definitely visit restaurant Rosto! We wish team Rosto a lot of success and many thanks to chef Robin.

Wij waren al eerder geweest en waren benieuwd naar de nieuwe kaart. Ontvangst en bediening is precies zoals het moet zijn. Vriendelijk en los zonder ook maar een moment aan de verkeerde kant van amicaal terecht te komen. Zowel de menukaart als ook de nieuwe wijnkaart is inventief, beknopt en gevuld met kwalitatief hoogwaardige keuzes. De keuze voor het champagnehuis Billecart-Salmon is eigenzinnig en helemaal onze smaak. De Condrieu van Les vins de Vienne was eveneens buitengewoon. Over de 5 gangen die werden geserveerd kan ik kort zijn. Ga het alstublieft zelf proberen. Wij dineren vaak en in het bovensegment is het armoe troef in Leiden. De afhankelijkheid van de vorm van de dag bij In den Doofpot, Bistro Bord'o of Wielinga is groot. De rest van de Leidse horeca is zoals bekend verre van bijzonder te noemen. Rosto verbaast mij nu al een paar keer achter elkaar doordat de chef qua inventiviteit, verrassing en techniek, wat ons betreft op dit moment in Leiden zijn gelijke niet kent. De lunch is even goed verzorgd. Wij gaan hier zeker vaker komen en ik raad iedereen, die op zoek is in Leiden naar een restaurant op niveau, redelijk geprijsd met een keuze uit mooie wijnen, bij Rosto te reserveren. Gaat u geen spijt van krijgen.

Top ervaring, zowel culinair als qua ambiance. Het tussengerecht met tomaat en komkommer was werkelijk subliem. Veel smaak met toch eenvoudige ingrediënten, maar ook de kreeft en het rundvlees was mooi bereid met veel smaakaccenten.

What a surprise. We chose the 5-course chef’s menu and were blown away by the creativity, depth of flavor and variation. Leiden needs more restaurants like this. If you’re looking for fine dining with a relaxed atmosphere, this is for you.

The restaurant is excellent, as is the food and service. We had a great evening. We were also pleasantly surprised by the price for such a high-quality kitchen. The service is very friendly, attentive and also flexible. The atmosphere in the restaurant is cozy and pleasant.

We took 6 courses incl. Wine arrangement and it was amazing. My friend has some allergies and they called her one day before we came to ensure that the food is safe for her. The service is excellent. One small remark: maybe add only little pata negra to the scallop dish as it can overtake the taste (I am fans of both but as combination, it can be better). So far the skrei is the best dish! We will definitely come back!!

Gisteravond gegeten bij Rosto, voor ons de eerste keer. Wat een aanwinst voor Leiden (ze zitten er inmiddels alweer 2,5 jaar)!! Hoewel er al veel horeca is in Leiden (veel midden segment) is dit echt een ware aanvulling! Gezellige entourage, mooie bijzondere gerechtjes, goede wijnen en erg vriendelijk personeel.

Genoeg restaurants in Leiden. Als je echter op zoek bent naar een ervaring op een beetje niveau wordt het al een stuk lastiger. In den doofpot is een zekerheidje en bij Wielinga of bistro bordo komt het ook wel goed. Verder veel laag en middensegment en veel tenten die zichzelf met name heel goed vinden. Hoe verfrissend is het dan om neer te strijken in Rosto. We hadden erover gehoord en dus uitgebreid lunchen. Bediening top ! Attent maar luchtig, vriendelijk maar niet amicaal. Mooie wijnkaart en een gevarieerde spijskaart. Starten met oesters en pata negra, daarna het menu. Zacht gegaarde zalm , daarna parelhoen, skrei met paling en een hemels dessert. De chef zit overduidelijk al een tijd op koken….. Het niveau is uitstekend, prijs/kwaliteit prima, ambiance goed en uitstekende bediening. Wij komen zeker terug.

Top restaurant, We hadden een vijf gangen menu, verrassende gangen, allemaal smaakvol. We hadden chef,s table geboekt. Voor een keer leuk om te doen. Je zit dan met vier op een rij met uitzicht op de keuken. Bediening en koks zijn jong, vriendelijk en enthousiast! Kortom, een aanrader!

A memorable experience. It's been a long time since I visited a restaurant that managed to serve such an arrangement of creative dishes, with such interesting combinations of flavours, and such beautiful presentation. The sea bass with crab cake in particular stood out for the way the various vegetables contrasted with and accentuated the fish. Quite honestly I lack the vocabulary to fully describe everything, and the menu will be different next time around anyway, so take this as a general recommendation. I should also mention the excellently chosen wines complementing the dishes, and the extremely friendly and knowledgable staff. Their enthusiasm definitely helped elevate the experience. Practical information: * No menu, you just select a number of courses and mention dietary restrictions * Vegetarian options but no vegan ones * Located right in the middle of Leiden city centre, but just around the corner from the main shopping thoroughfares, for a pleasantly quiet atmosphere * In easy walking distance from several parking garages and the railway station, as well as various of Leiden's museums.

Erg lekker gegeten, attente service. Zowel de vlees/vis als de vegetarische gerechten waren goed op smaak en hadden mooie smaakcombinaties.

Zeer goed restaurant, mijn complimenten. Je krijgt een ouderwets gevoel van een restaurant kwa aandacht en bediening. Dat wat niet vanzelfsprekend is tegenwoordig. Ik ben op 29-09-2023 met mijn broer hier geweest. Ben zeer tevreden over mijn bezoek. Ik was iets eerder en dat was geen probleem. Ook wilde ik van tafel wisselen wat ook geen probleem was. En ik wilde een aanpassing op het wijn arrangement wat wederom geen probleem was. Er heerste een hele fijne sfeer. De bediening was heel attent en vriendelijk. De gerechten worden warm geserveerd en alles is heel hygiënisch, secuur en smakelijk. Je Krijg een goede uitleg bij de gerechten. Mijn complimenten aan de chef. Ik heb geen spijt van mijn bezoek. Het is elke cent die waard geweest. Ik zal zeker nog een keer deze zaak bezoeken. Echt een aanrader! Mijn tip; Oesters met cava 😋 en bij de kaasplank Muscat. Tot binnenkort. Very nicely located a little away from the hustle and bustle. Really nice service team. There is no a la carte but changing menus. You choose the number of courses. Also vegetarian. We were very satisfied with the extremely tasty and beautifully presented food. 4 courses cost €65.

Dieses Restaurant ist ein absoluter Tipp! Die gemütliche und moderne Einrichtung schafft eine angenehme Atmosphäre, perfekt für ein entspanntes Dinner. Doch was diesen Ort wirklich herausragen lässt, ist das kompetente und extrem freundliche Personal. Ihre Empfehlungen und Beratung bei der Auswahl von Weinen von der exzellenten Weinkarte waren genial. Das Essen war schlichtweg fantastisch! Die Geschmackskombinationen in den Gerichten waren eine wahre Sinnesexplosion. Alles wurde wunderschön angerichtet, und jeder Bissen war ein Genuss. Heel lekker gegeten, service was ook goed en vriendelijk. Je moet wel je portemonnee trekken maar dat is het waard. Ook nog een kaartje voor mijn verjaardag gekregen, erg attent.

Een woord, GEWELDIG! Ik heb een verrassingsdiner georganiseerd voor de verjaardag van mijn man. Edwin en Robin hebben van tevoren alle details met mij besproken en veel leuke ideeën bedacht om te zorgen dat wij een geweldige en gezellige avond met 15 personen hebben gehad! Het eten, wijn, moktails en de service, alles klopt gewoon! Helaas zijn er veel overrated restaurants in Leiden en Rosto behoort zeker NIET tot die groep😁 Het is echt een aanwinst voor Leiden en wij komen zeker nog terug! Nogmaals bedankt voor de fantastische avond die wij hebben gehad!

Het viel een beetje tegen. De eerste keer (ze waren toen net open) waren het spannende gerechtjes nu echter was het allemaal wat minder. Sommige sausjes overheerste het gerecht. Smaken waren vlak met twee vieze chocolaatjes bij de koffie toe. Voor zulke prijzen mag je echt meer verwachten. Ook waren de tijden tussen de gerechten wel heel erg lang,(we hadden dit keer geen wijn arrangement) dus het laat zich raden waarom.

Nieuwe aanwinst voor Leiden. Tweede keer dat wij hier eten, dit keer een ander menu. De smaken en texturen zijn verrassend, de sfeer goed en de bediening top. Zelfs een kaartje voor mijn verjaardag gekregen! Tot de volgende keer ;-)

Nog nooit zo heerlijk gegeten. Porties zouden wel een snippertje groter mogen zijn. Bijzonder vriendelijk enngastvrij ontvangen en bediend. Echte aanrader als je een keer echt luxueus en verfijnd wilt eten.

Food is definitely a 4 out of 5. Some of them were slightly too salty for my taste but overall, quite deliciously done. But man, the wait is just too long. A 7-course dinner took more than 4 hours and frankly it made me question the purpose of sitting there, “am I here to eat or am I just sitting here to sit and people bring food to you every half an hour as a reward?” So yeah, if you don’t mind the wait, this is quite a nice place to visit and the ambience is pleasant.

Toevallig bij Rosto terecht gekomen tijdens een zwoele avond. Heerlijk rustig gezeten op het bootterras voor de deur. Gekozen voor het 4-gangen menu met wijnarrangement. Genoten van verrassende en seizoensgebonden gerechten van de chef met heerlijke bijpassende wijnen. Vegetarische optie was ook zeer goed. Zeer vriendelijke bediening, goede sfeer en goede ligging in het centrum van Leiden.

Incredible new restaurant! Great location with a terrace on the water and late afternoon/evening sun in the summer. Service was great and the food was truly outstanding.
