Rubens Burger in Oude Stad

I wouldn't wish the experience of eating here on even my worst enemy. Last week, I thought I'd grab a quick burger. When I entered, I could choose any table in the restaurant. The fact that no one was there was a clear sign in hindsight. Even though no one was there, I still had to wait a very long time for my burger. I think the cook rolled a die to determine which ingredients went on the burger. I asked for no tomato and pickle, and subsequently received a burger with tomato and pickle *and* mushrooms. The cook conjured those up too. The food was brought by two guys who were actually quite nice (which is why I was able to give the service 3 stars after all), but it was clear that these guys were under the legal drinking age. Not only is this place filthy, but it is also illegal. I also noticed that these guys regularly had to do food deliveries. I am no inspector, but I don't think that is allowed either. The only reason I will ever eat here again is if I lose a bet.

Terrible service. Having to wait an hour for your hamburger (in a place with few customers at that moment), while the customers who came in after you did get their orders, is proof to me that they don't know what they're doing in the kitchen. I just went to get a few currant buns at the AH on the corner. I can recommend those, by the way. The staff are Generation Z, and that explains why they can't manage to get a hamburger on the table within 15 minutes. I don't recommend eating there unless you want to get incredibly annoyed.

We had a delicious meal tonight!

We wanted to visit Rubens Burger and specifically went there based on the opening hours listed online, which indicated they should already be open. When we arrived, the door was open, which naturally made us assume they were operating. However, we were then told that they were not open yet. To make matters more confusing, the opening hours displayed on the door are scratched off and unreadable, so there was no clear information available on-site. This was a frustrating and disappointing experience, especially after making the trip there based on the information provided online. Please keep your opening hours accurate and clearly visible to avoid wasting customers’ time.

We went in by chance and it was so delicious! The best burger I've ever had! Try the Smash!

Long wait, but luckily I had plenty of time... The hamburger was tasty, but nothing particularly special. And expensive! The hamburger alone costs around 15 euros. If you want fries or salad with it, you're already looking at around 20 euros. Otherwise, there is nothing to complain about regarding the English-speaking 'host'. He was friendly and worked his socks off.

Tasty burgers, definitely go for it ;D We had a smash burger and blue cheese. And it was very delicious.

excellent burgers, and the fries were even more delicious! the waiter, Harm, was very kind and considerate. at the time of us visiting, he was alone in the restaurant and there were lots of tables to be served. he did a great job doing the cooking, serving, and overall shopkeeping. due to high volume, he did realize he could not serve all orders exactly on time, so he offered us for example free fries, to compensate.

Our waiter, Harm, was very kind and prepared the our burgers very well. We appreciated the small free portion of fries from him because, according to him, the food took long time to be prepared. In short, the food, Harm and the services were really great - I will definitely come back when possible!

Too expensive for what you get. €15 for a normal burger is not normal, and the fries are €5 for leftovers that you basically have to throw away.

Took 1 hour to receive my food!

Very bad. I ordered a Cheeseburger to go. On the menu 12.25 - I had to pay 13.50 euro. No cheese on the cheeseburger. Overall not a very good burger. The ambiance is dingy and dirty: (not a good place for a date) Tables and floor are sticky and dirty. Kitchen is dirty., not a clean place for food preparation. Harm the supervisor says the cook just starred today. (Not my problem). He was not very helpfull. This place will not last very long. I would recommend Mc Donald’s around the corner. Better burgers, better meat, better service and much better value for money. This NOT a good place to eat!

Tygo was a really good, helpful young man. He did his best and knows what he's doing.

My wife and I made a stop here for dinner and it did not disappoint. The burgers had great flavors, I had the blue cheese burger and my wife had the Mediterranean burger. From my end I really appreciate that the blue cheese didnt dominate the burger. It mixed so well with the BBQ sauce and Fried onions. The bun was wonderfully toasted. I do wish that the bun matched the burger in circumference, but i only had one bite where I had only bun left and even that was super flavorful do not really a downside. Their fries were incredible and I would go back just for them, but I know i want to try their many burger options. I also didnt get a chance to try their drinks yet so more reason to go. The ambiance was great just a really great place to grab a bite. I very much encourage you to try if you can.

I came at closing time with my luggage, they were nice to make me a takeaway meal although it was past their working hours. Food was great and chilli mayo sauce is nice.

Don't order from here. After waiting 90 minutes, they couldn't deliver and canceled my order.

Service has seriously deteriorated. I ordered here before and had to wait almost four hours for my food. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the day before yesterday and ordered again, but they forgot my drink. I called about it and were told my money would be refunded. It didn't happen. It's a real shame because the food is excellent, but I won't be ordering from here again.

Great burgers. Love trying all the different options. Kids love the children meal. It is one of our regular spots. They always deliver quality.

I knew about this restaurant through online ordering. I ate there in person today. The burgers are delicious. Well-filled, nice fresh bun. Absolutely fantastic. Highly recommended!

Rubens burger is my go-to burger place in central Haarlem. I'm vegetarian and most vege burgers in the Netherlands are unpleasant at best. At Rubens burger they're home made and delicious. I've had the mushroom one the last few times - it's excellent. Lots of flavour, not chewy and not artificial. The bun is always soft and again not one of those cheap nasty ones. The fries are better than average too - kind of medium thickness and always cooked properly. The guys are always friendly in a kind of understated way. The food tends to come out pretty quickly even though it's cooked fresh. Although worth noting I always go fairly early, typically arriving just before. Not surprisingly it is busier from about 6.15 onwards.

Great service food was great lots of toppings and good seasoned fries

If you walk in at 6:15 PM and get your food at 7:30 PM, something's logistically wrong (only the main course). Incidentally, the place was full with nine people and some thuisbezorgd.nl orders. The average age of the staff is around the alcohol limit, but that shouldn't be the problem. Nevertheless, it took over an hour to fry two steaks and toss some fries in the deep fryer. A good place if you're not in a hurry...

Amazing burgers! Gluten free + vegetarian burger options! Taste is delicious!

We came here on Sinterklaas Eve, and there was only one person running the place. The limited menu was understandable; there was still plenty of choice. The blue cheese burger was really good.

Received wrong burgers when ordering, impossible to reach by phone.

Ordered through Thuisbezorgd. My order was incomplete, so I tried calling the store, but that's not possible. The associated number is not in service. Therefore, I can't reach them in case of problems.

I visited Burger Bar and ordered three smash burgers, one portion of fries, one mozzarella sticks, and a Coca-Cola. The total was €49. The food was tasty overall, with a few small notes: The onions were a bit too much and slightly hard, the mustard was a little overpowering compared to the taste of the meat, and the patty itself was a bit too crispy, which made it less enjoyable. Despite that, the flavor and the overall experience were definitely good and worth four stars. I wish the place more customers and lots of busy days ahead — they deserve it.

Uh oh, uh oh, this is going in the wrong direction. Please invite me when the food on the menu can actually be ordered, and preferably eaten, and there are more than 5 IPAs in stock.

Small burger patties, overpriced for what its.

Stopped by on a Sunday evening. I had a choice of 3 or 4 burgers—the rest of the menu wasn't available. My order was initially forgotten (even though only two other tables were occupied). When the burger arrived, the bun was burnt (grilled too hard) and the burger was still too rare. I ended up eating it, but I shouldn't have, as I'm having gastrointestinal problems today. The fries were good, though.

Not open! Even though the website and the sticker on the door indicate otherwise.

Phenomenal burgers. Dry-aged beef, perfectly balanced sauces and toppings, and absolutely addictive fries! Whether it's a Spicy Aunt or a Smash Burger, it's a pleasure every time. Their love for the burger craft shines through with every bite.

Went there for the second time tonight. The last time was six months ago. Unfortunately, it wasn't a great experience. 80% of the menu wasn't available. The things we wanted weren't available, and only the standard fries were served. The service was okay; we had to ask for plates and napkins ourselves. We weren't asked for another drink or dessert after the first round because no one came. We just walked in, paid, and left.

Burgers are great. Unfortunately they always close way before the closing time stated in google maps.

Loved this place, the guy who was running it was absolutely fantastic, brought us some extra fries because we had a little wait.the fries where superb, best we had whilst in Holland. The burgers where also amazing, so tasty. We loved our meal and the service so much we took him a bar of chocolate to say thank you for feeding us.

The food was excellent, but the place was a bit unusual. There was only one person manning the place, which meant everything took a bit longer to get going, but he was very friendly. The menu was also quite expensive, and there were no simpler burgers. The staff member did offer to make several people a more affordable regular burger. Apparently, they're listed on the website, but they don't want to promote it to diners? The music was also so loud that it was difficult to have a conversation. The burgers and fries were good, though!

Beware! We've been scammed here. The waiter has added two portions of fries to our receipt which we have never ordered. Unfortunately, we didn't realise this until we came back home thus we paid 9 euros extra. We don't know if this was a mistake or a simple theft but be sure to check your receipts before paying.

We had a lovely meal on the patio. The service was prompt. The burger was exactly as described, and the fries were also delicious, even with the skins on.

There were 3 young men walking around but they didn't even think to ask if everything tasted good or to clear tables around us. Typical male behavior, there has to be a lady who receives the guests because this is a stallion inspection and that costs you customers. The food is perfect. Oh yes, the milk for the cappuccino was also gone.

Last Saturday my girlfriend and I spontaneously went for lunch at Rubens Burger, after a morning of shopping in the city. She had the classic beef and I wanted to try something different, so I went for the vegan burger. No regrets! The taste was just as full and juicy as a regular one, and the texture was also great. We tasted each other's burger and could hardly tell the difference haha. Also nice that they have a lot of choices for different dietary requirements. We will definitely come back here :)

Burgers were reasonable. Price ratio for a burger without fries, is too high. Assortment was poor. Service could be faster and more cooperative.

It took over an hour for burgers and fries. Ruben considers Uber orders more important than guests in the restaurant and is happy to keep you waiting. Several other tables before us had already left without receiving food. If you don't mind waiting more than an hour for your food, the food isn't bad (but not great either). Otherwise, stay away from here.

Great burger, absolutely perfect fries with cheese and bacon. Tried this multiple times and it never disappoints. It can be tricky to find them open sometimes but if you’re lucky, buckle up and get some good burgers.

Quiet Thursday night for a later dinner. Service was pleasant, burgers were really good, the vegetarian mushroom burger especially. No photos, we were too hungry.

Found this place a few years ago really busy and had great food , not so lucky this time, place smelt of fat, empty when we arrived, ordered 2 mushroom burgers waited then got told they had no mushrooms not the same place a found a few years ago. Left and went to the pizza and pasta restaurant round the counter with was fantastic

Ate on site. Small but nicely decorated restaurant. Order was taken quickly. Preparation time was fine. The result completely. Delicious burger with fresh fries. The woman had her burger on a salad instead of a bun. A nice alternative. All in all a great experience and definitely recommended.

I didn't write such a nice review before because the food ordered was really not good. Certainly not what I was used to from Rubens Burger. I adjusted the review because they contacted me via a response. Unfortunately I only saw that now. It's good that they're reaching out, but I'm still not going to order from them anymore. The quality of the products they cook with has deteriorated. The meat, the fries and what extras are on the burger. This is simply their choice, which means I will choose someone else from now on. They were unlucky with the lost delivery person, as well as with the burger being overcooked. The mayonnaise was still tasty.

Op zoek naar een snelle hap lopen we deze zaak binnen. Er zijn op dat moment 10 andere gasten t.o.v 3 personeelsleden. We worden begroet met een zakelijk “we hebben personeelsgebrek dus deze keuzes zijn niet beschikbaar van het menu”. Vreemd omdat het niet echt druk lijkt maar wellicht loopt het storm mbt afhaal/bezorging. Bediening is amateuristisch (in poging 3 komt er uit eindelijk de bestelde Cola zero op tafel, bij het uitserveren van de burgers kegelt medewerker Icetea over het tafeltje, doet niets, verontschuldigt zich niet en loopt weg!!!!). Magic-mushroom burgers verdrinken in vette mayonaise-achtige saus. Dit mag/kan/moet veel beter. Zo moeilijk is het allemaal niet.

We ate a ridiculously expensive hamburger, with nothing served with it, so we shared a bowl of fries, for which we also charged way too much money. We were over 40!!!! Euros spent on two hamburgers, a bowl of fries and two soft drinks. The store smells like burnt dishes, is not clean and cheaply decorated, there are too many super small tables, the music was constantly being messed with and was also much too loud, and there are boxes of supplies everywhere. Not recommended!

Quite lame. Over 50’ waiting for: - an overcooked ball of meat (that was not a hamburger). Rather disappointing as it was very dry. Personal note I disliked: the pickles are not sliced, they put CHUNKS in it. - cold bun. Not even toasted. - extra salty fries. The concept was great. The potatoes crispy. A ton of salt ruined them. Nearly an hour for this, and no “sorry/thank you for waiting” made the experience lame. They were lucky the three of us were incredibly hungry. Not recommended. Edit after review: they also COMMAND to reach out to them. So disappointing.

Been coming here for years, my favorite burger joint in the area. Never order anything other than the blue cheese burger, which is phenomenal. Service friendly and attentive.

The food is okay, but be prepared for the slowest burger service in Haarlem. I have been to the place multiple times and 45 minutes to an hour for a burger is normal preparation time it seems. Stay away if you want a quick bite
