Thrill Grill in Oude Stad

This week, I ordered a hamburger and fries through Uber Eats, which I'd had bad experiences with in Amsterdam in the past. The bun often arrived disintegrated due to the juices from the hamburger, etc. So, I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived and the hamburger components were individually wrapped in a box. The result? Everything was still deliciously warm, and the bun was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I could also control the amount of sauce. The fries had the salt on them, so you could add it to your liking. And best of all: the burger was absolutely DELICIOUS!

Very, very friendly service and great advice on the food. The drinks and food were delicious. While quite expensive, they were exceptionally good. 😋👍🏻

They charge €12 for 3 (three) small baked kibbeling with a little mayo! Unfortunately, the menu doesn't mention the quantity. It's a rip-off! When asked about this, the waitress (who isn't responsible for it) shrugged, nodded, and smiled. The stairs to the restrooms were a real pain, and the staff were rather lackadaisical.

Thursday, September 18, 2025, the three of us had lunch. A brioche turned out to be a toasted casino sandwich: one slice with some lettuce and a scoop of egg salad, and for an extra euro, a strip of bacon on top, all for €9.95! Ridiculous! The fresh orange juice was good, but it took ages to get it. But one sandwich for lunch is absolutely ridiculous; we won't be coming back.

The food was basically delicious! The staff was friendly, and the nachos, burger, and pulled beef loaded fries were delicious! We also had spare ribs, which were absolutely terrible. Burnt on the outside and dry and incredibly tough on the inside. I could barely distinguish the bones from the meat. The waiter politely apologized, but his colleague, unfortunately, took a less polite approach. His answer: that's just how we make them. My advice: don't order spare ribs! Absolutely not recommended. They're absolutely not as good as they say on the menu. Dry, tough, and partially burnt on the outside. The menu itself probably tasted even better.

I've eaten here often; the price is good, but the quality isn't always great. Lately, I've only been coming here for beers and bitterballen (Dutch meatballs). The service from the young staff is friendly in a way you'd expect from a 16-year-old, but when I was asked if everything was to my liking, I honestly told them the fries were soggy and cold, we weren't allowed tap water after ordering a lot of wine, and that something was missing from the order, so it wasn't exactly the best experience. Then I was interrupted by an angry young woman who completely contradicted me and didn't even let me finish, raising her voice as if she were talking to a child. I went home confused.

I can definitely recommend this restaurant. The ambiance is cozy and pleasant. The value for money is really very good, and the staff are very friendly and always there to help. The steak was cooked to perfection, the fries were delicious right up to the end, and the homemade sauce was a dream.

We wouldn’t come back again, as we were sadly disappointed with the changes in the menu and the overall staff vibe. We’ve lived in Haarlem for more than seven years and have visited this place many times. We used to love their variety of burger options, but now they only have three (the same price, €14.95). One staff member, the young guy, might have been a bit too proud of his English skills. He spoke way too fast, especially when trying to push something we didn’t want, like whether we’d like to order a certain menu item. When we said no or ask for clarification, he was not responsive much, giving a blank look. For foreign tourists: be careful not to say “yes” out of embarrassment, and don’t hesitate to ask for clarification. Otherwise, you might end up with side dishes you never planned to order.

Excellent burgers with a variety of options. Outdoor seating is preferable, but the atmosphere is a bit noisy due to the music and the chatter. Overall, the food is good value for money. On busy nights, service isn't exactly prompt.

We stopped for lunch, and it took an hour and a half for our food to be served. Our drinks were brought out fifteen minutes after we sat down. They don't serve tap water, and they charge €6.50 for a 1-liter bottle of water. The food was quite tasty, but the portions were very small. We wouldn't go back again, given such poor service.

The location was very good, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. BUT: The portion sizes were much too small for the price, and the wait time for the food was also very long. We waited about 45 minutes for our food, only to discover that it was more of a snack than a full meal, as one would expect given the price. For a quick beer or coffee in between meals, it's definitely a good choice in a central location.

Our kids tend not to like hamburgers. In fact, they don't even try them. But one try of the "TG's Triple Cheese Beef Burger" converted our daughter into a hamburger lover. If you like a little tang from your burger, "TG's Peruvian Beef Burger" has the right amount of heat. The wasabi mayo combined with avocado on the burger should be on your next charcuterie board. Finally, the sweet potato fries we're perfectly crispy. The service was great. They were kind and made sure all the kids had what they wanted (or didn't want on the nachos, which were lekker too). As for the atmosphere, there's no way you can beat the view. Overall, A+. We will definitely be returning and taking more photos. We were too excited to pause for pictures!

Balls sent away for sauce Very unfriendly staff

We wanted a drink on the terrace at 11 p.m. The waiter took our order and then decided to send us off. He was extremely rude. We asked what was wrong, but he wouldn't give us an explanation, and we had to leave. We're fine with that because there are plenty of terraces nearby, but it's very strange that we were sent away. It's a strange way to welcome your guests.

Friendly waitresses greeted us with big smiles. Just like at Brasserie van Beinum, the terrace is practically under the magnificent St. Bavo church. An Oreo milkshake with a generous dollop of whipped cream! And the fries were delicious too! They weren't soggy and had a lovely golden color!

Super cozy and relaxed restaurant. Friendly, efficient service. We were in a hurry because of a performance at Phil's, and they accommodated us. The food was delicious!

Waiting 45 minutes for your lunch and then getting a white sandwich with a piece of chicken on it for €13.50. Absolute drama and don't go here.

We were in Haarlem today and stopped here quite by chance because our daughter wanted a quick snack and we fancied a coffee. At first glance, the restaurant looks very cozy and is also beautifully centrally located. Unfortunately, after a while, we noticed that the tables are far too close together – so much so that even the waiters and staff had a hard time getting to the customers without problems. I can only agree with the previous speakers – we had to wait over 30 minutes for the drinks alone. The food (burger, fries, Caesar salad, and kibbelinge) only arrived after over 60 minutes, after we alerted the staff. A total no-go. The burger tasted really good, the Caesar salad was okay, but seemed a bit carelessly thrown together, and the chicken was barely cooked. The highlight, however, was the "Crunchy Kibbelinge" – listed on the menu for €12. When the plate was served, we didn't know whether to laugh or cry. See attached photo. A price that leaves you speechless. Unfortunately, the dishes are very expensive overall, as they're served without side dishes (which cost extra), and this unfortunately makes a very poor visual impression, as well as a negative. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and brought us a round of drinks on the house to make up for the long wait. But it's all to no avail—all in all, the processes at this restaurant urgently need to be re-examined. A shame!

Food no idea was an hour wait for fries. That's why I paid earlier and saw a chaos in the kitchen and a waiter checking the temperature of the soup with his finger. Something is really wrong here

If you don't want any service and you don't want any bitterballen and a chef who feels with his bare fingers whether you want the soup... then you should sit here

Hamburger tasty but a bit bare. Staff very sloppy (there was a bottle of wine on the bill that we had not ordered, no sorry, it could be removed), toilet filthy. You can expect better things from Haarlem center

I wouldn't eat there again. The portions are small and expensive. The quality of the chicken in the salad wasn't good either.

Went there on our trip to Haarlem because we were hungry and wanted to eat a little something. The atmosphere is cozy but the rest can be left to yourself. We waited 30 minutes for three drinks and over an hour for the food (kids toast, fries and a “spicy” hot dog) - the hunger got the best of us and after paying we were happy to be outside again

The ministry still has a lot to learn. Cold atmosphere. Asking in between if you like it doesn't happen. A lot of noise is made to make a cup of coffee. T will certainly be part of it 🤔. The food was not particularly tasty, the taste was okay. Don't come back here again, because there are much better restaurants around St Bavo.

They would not turn on the gas heat at our table, even though it was on at other tables outside. We ordered salmon, but got chicken? So they didn't think that should be changed? The chicken tasted fine, but giving full price, which is by the way far too high in relation to the experience, is not a place I can recommend.

- The ambience was nice, unfortunately a bit too dark so you couldn't read the menu properly - The service also seemed a bit haphazard to me, but was otherwise friendly - My Casear Salad had too much salad dressing, Parmesan was completely missing, and the portion was too small for the price - For the others, the burger and fries weren't really warm. When asked, the food was taken away and the burger was "warmed up", the fries were simply brought back without having done anything. They could have at least thrown them into the deep fryer again for a moment. Maybe the food wasn't warm because they forgot to bring the dishes? - They didn't apologize, didn't ask if the food was good and said goodbye was completely missing

All in all very good! The burger was amazing, had some sweet potato fries with it aswel. The atmosphere was very nice and cozy. It was a busy evening so the order took a little longer but totally worth it🤩

The food was very tasty, although unfortunately the portions were far too small. Among other things, we had a steak, which was very tasty, but only the size of a fist and a handful of fries. Salad or side dishes had to be ordered separately. Really steep for the price!! The homemade iced tea was also very tasty and the staff was super friendly, if a bit chaotic. Unfortunately we left hungry. And that with a bill of over €60! It doesn't work at all!

Lunch was really not tasty. The soup was way too salty, so we left it alone. Fries were old and not crispy at all, which was indicated on the menu. Salmon sandwich was really bizarrely bad, tasteless. We indicated it, the response was; we just got a new card, so nice to know. Nothing else has been done with it. Furthermore, lovely, young service.

Thrill Grill Haarlem is a great spot that I’ve visited multiple times. The burgers are consistently delicious, juicy, flavorful, and well-prepared. I also enjoyed a Tinto de Verano, though you have to ask for it since it’s not on the menu. Hopefully, they’ll add it soon because it’s a perfect drink to go with their food. The atmosphere is excellent, making it a great place to sit and enjoy a meal. Whether you’re there for a quick bite or a relaxed evening, it never disappoints. Definitely a place worth returning to!

A dirty glass with the imprint of lips on it. Was served a raw eggplant :(( not edible! Cold hamburger. Tasteless. Poor communication, absent staff. And not very friendly (with the exception of a few young girls who work there) I will not come back here again! A waste of money!

Unfortunately, things have deteriorated over the past few months. I always had a delicious meal here, but since they went on social deal there is nothing left. Dishes were finished or forgotten. An end of an era

Social deal arrangement seemed good. But I don't understand how a grill restaurant can mess up a shrimp risotto so much. The shrimp were fried hard and inedible! The service was friendly but "absent". Our ordered bottle of wine was forgotten...oo yes was the response, which wine was it? The restaurant was very empty, so it couldn't have been busy.

Starter was tasty. Salads with bacon shavings The milkshake is simply milk with a scoop of ice cream because you only taste milk. We were looking forward to tournedos with truffle fries. After we had ordered everything and were ready for the main course, we were told that both items ordered were not there. All the fries were gone, but we were able to get a burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was okay and we never got those sweet fries again. Too bad experience for 70 euros.

Thoroughly recommended. A bit much butter on the fried chicken but otherwise ok, fries well. But the restaurant itself was clean and the employees were very friendly.

We ordered a classic burguer and a vegan burguer , they brought 2 vegan burguers ( bun , salad and Patty) my partner had the two vegan burguers and I then asked for another classic burger The meat was raw .When we receives the Bill we got charged for 3 burgers and extra 3 € for the vegan Patty . So we just paid neary 32€ for two burgers buns , two vegan Patties and two slices of lettuce. Crazy !I Will never come back to this place

I have been to the thrill grill many times, they do good burgers. The service is nice and quick. I just wish they still did the blue cheese burger.

Too bad that if you want coffee, chocolate milk with apple pie, you pay €8 for 1 piece of apple pie. Just something with coffee. The menu includes apple pie for dessert. With coffee a very cold piece of apple pie. Total bill € 23.50 This is listed as dessert on the menu. This is just crazy. Too bad there is no response to the email.

Overall a pleasant cafe, tasty food, but steaks are served after 17:00

Een prachtige plek in Haarlem helaas als je koffie, chocolademelk en 2 appeltaarten besteld kost je € 23,50. .. Appeltaart kost € 8,-- per stuk en het is nog koud ook. Absurd.

What a terrible place, never had such bad food before. I ordered prawns, it looked like a piece of shoe sole. Indicated that it was not edible and someone casually reported that it was normal and should be tasty. Then got pasta which was also nasty, sauce from a jar. No sorry nothing. Then the receipt is incorrect. I don't often write reviews but this was not worth a star, I feel nauseous and actually a bit angry that our evening was ruined by this. It wasn't pleasant in there either. RUN!!!

Dear traveller, The place looks nice and cozy, and it’s worth visiting for drinks, but not the food. The quality doesn’t match the price. Even the French fries were cold and disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend the grilled chicken sandwich from the lunch menu either. If you’re looking for good food, this isn’t the place. Happy holidays!

Tournedos are minuscule, supplemented with a mountain of far too salty Mac Donalds fries. No salad, nothing. The tastiest were the bitterballen beforehand. Service is good.

Ordering took a long time with 8 people, we always received a few plates and then nothing for 15 minutes until the next ones arrived, so we couldn't eat anything together. You couldn't go to the toilet which was broken. Tournedos was cold. We won't be back there again

Unfortunately had a dramatic lunch here. The portions and taste for the money are definitely not worth it.

Had dinner tonight at Thrill grill in Haarlem. I must say I have had better evenings here. We had made a reservation at 7pm and had a wide choice of tables. We then had to wait 10 minutes to order the first drink and they pushed a little too much to order bread. We then had to wait 20 to 25 minutes to order the rest of the dishes. Since the boy who was working was busy either setting up empty tables neatly or talking to his colleagues outside. Burgers were okay, but as we are used to, we were not asked how we wanted them, but they were well done and on the edge in temperature. In addition, after the first drinks, we intended to order at the bar, which was not quite what you expected when you go out to eat at a restaurant. Conclusion in this story, service has deteriorated and quality could still be improved. Oh yes, setting the table before the food is served is also a plus point if that happens.

We had a great experience at TG. The location, food and service were all great

Helaas was de penne niet erg warm en zat er ook weinig tomatensaus doorheen. Wel gemeld maar er is niks mee gedaan. Jammer!

We sat on the terrace here around 2:15 PM and were completely ignored by the wait staff. And it really wasn't very busy on the terrace. People next to us, who arrived much later, were helped immediately. Perhaps we would now also be greeted or addressed? But no...We just ran away, What a mockery.

1 hour wait for a Caesar salad, a steak and a Burger. Luckily it was hot. But the “Caesar” salad with just mayonnaise and no parmesan or chicken but flowing mayonnaise. After 35 minutes we are simply told it's coming soon (25 minutes later) In short, if you have time to waste, go for it. Otherwise take the time to choose a neighbor.

Convenient and quick food in the city center of Haarlem. But not a culinary tour de force! The burgers are meh, the fries are salty and we didn't like them. We like the nachos, but they also cost a bit. Service is good and the restaurant is nicely decorated inside.

My husband ordered a burger for me yesterday. I am 4 months pregnant and I was so looking forward to a good burger, but I took one bite and it was completely raw. He didn’t get a refund either. Totally unacceptable and dangerous for my baby! Would 100 % never recommend and won’t be ordering there again.

Today I ordered a Peruvian beef burger and the beef Patties were both extremely undercooked. Literally looked like they had 30 seconds on each side, chips were cold. My pregnant wife obviously couldn’t eat her order as it was unsafe to eat. The food was delivered, so I messaged Uber eats but there’s only so much they can do. Won’t be getting burgers from here again. Unfortunately.

Went 1.5 weeks ago and all the staff were focused on the terrace, walking around without looking around and all the tables inside had to beckon to waiters to have lunch taken. Order took a very long time. Question asked about the ingredients of a sauce that would be inquired about. Never got an answer. Bad for allergies.

Terrace outside more than half empty. Saw 2 staff members... walked in and out like headless chickens without looking around... sat for 20 minutes without being seen... it really wasn't remote. Thought the selection of burgers was minimal... I ended up leaving without being able to "enjoy" the service

Edit sept 2024: from 5 to 2 stars. No more vegetarian burgers. It’s a shame and very contrary to what all the other places are having, including the vegetarians around. No go. I was there on a friday night, crowded and still the food did not take tooo long to arrive, service was easy to contact and they came right through. The food was really good, several delicious vegetarian options, showing TG can give a good burger feeling to every taste. I think the prices were also really fair.

Just a joke! We sat down in the outdoor dining area, which was equipped with awnings and heaters – perfect, we thought, for escaping the rain. After a long wait, we finally got something to drink, but no one seemed to care that we also wanted something to eat. Just as we had taken a few sips of beer, we were informed that the outdoor dining area was closing because there weren't enough guests. For a few more steps into the restaurant? So we moved inside, but it wasn't any better there. Despite repeated waves and attempts to get attention, they continued to ignore us. Eat? No chance, even though the place was almost empty! The ignorance and poor service was simply unbelievable. This was definitely my first and last visit here. Absolutely not recommended! Unfortunately I can't rate the food.

The service staff was quick and super friendly. The burger was okay - more roasted flavors would have been nice. Medium was really very Medium... However, the location itself is recommended for sitting in the evening.

Nice to have dinner in the square in Haarlem. Varied menu and quality food. Prices in line with the rental, however honest. Nice to be able to taste Jopen beer produced right in Haarlem. The guys at the tables are kind and quick in taking orders but then the food takes a long time to arrive. Overall a good place for a dinner.

The food is okay, but nothing special. I wouldn't eat here a second time. But it's a great place for a drink with a nice atmosphere and the service is friendly.

Vor einem Jahr waren wir sehr happy nach dem thrill-grill-Besuch. Aber diesmal war TG eine Riesenenttäuschung. Kleine Burger, große Preise. Für drei normalerweise Gratis-Starter ( eine kleine Semmel mit einem Klecks Ajoli ) haben die 19, 50 Euro) und für kleine Schälchen Oliven jeweils 4 Euro berechnet. Der gemischte Salat kam ohne Dressing. Ein Abend für ärgerliche 264,05 Euro. Nie wieder!

Very busy place, yet you have a stress-free feeling. The hamburger was very tasty. The staff very attentive. We were immediately made aware that we were welcome to put baby food in the kitchen to boil.

acting on a recommendation from lonelyvplanet we visited this restaurant and got bad service with male waiter slamming drinks down and denying a bottle of tap water to us despite paying for 2 rounds of drinks.In terms of food I ordered the chicken with fries which was tasteless and greasy. my son ordered ramen noodles which was literally a leaf in a plate of soya sauce.To sum up bad food and service.

Awesome Place. Very good burger and fries

The burgers were tasty, although a bit expensive as you have to order the fries separately. The homemade chilli lemonade was a hit. Be careful when using the toilet...the spiral staircase is steep and narrow.

Unfortunately a disappointment... the salmon was an ini mini piece of frozen salmon that you buy for a few euros in the supermarket. The wine cost €7 per glass and the Aperol Spritz €9.50 which was served in a wine glass. The service consisted of children, friendly children. Old patio furniture... in short, not worth the money so not recommended.

Had the Peruvian burger, one of the best burgers I’ve ever had.

The ambience is very cozy, relaxed, very nicely decorated and clean impression. As a foreigner you just have to get used to the bikes speeding past in the pedestrian passage ;) The service staff is ignorant, unsympathetic, cold and very listless and demotivated! Absolutely not a good wait staff! We weren't asked if everything was okay and if we wanted something to drink, the locals 2 tables away were already, very rude behavior!!!!!! A waitress came for the order, another for the service, a third for the billing and didn't even say thank you, have a nice evening or anything else.

I was utterly disappointed when my Cesar Salad arrived. Some leafes, not even real croutons and that was it - and I paid 15 Euros for this?!? The rice was also horrible and tasted like it was cooked by a kid. The Linguine of my girlfriend was below average. The meat and service was good though. Won't go there again.

Raw burger with meat that stinks.

On the day of our return from vacation, we wanted to go back to Haarlem to stroll through the city and have something to eat before we got on the motorway and came across the Thrill Grill. At first we waited outside for some time, but no one came. Since there were about 6 young people sitting next to us who had fresh food, we assumed that someone would come out soon. After about 15 minutes we went in and sat inside. A waiter who seemed a bit fake friendly sat us down at a clean table. Then the young people from outside came in, put on aprons and stood at the bar and behind the bar. (It was only then that we realized that none of them had managed to go in briefly and let them know that there were waiting customers sitting outside . They even made fun of us for not going in earlier) When ordering drinks, the head waiter suggested in Dutch (?!) that we order nachos as a starter. My husband thought, based on the waiter's offering this way, that it was a house appetizer that was free. We got nachos that tasted like plastic and soot. We ate a few and left the rest because they didn't suit our taste. Now the waiter came to take the main order. I am very sure that he understood my English as well as my German well, but he kept leaning down as if he couldn't understand us properly and you felt like you were clearly being shown off. After ordering the burgers, the staff visibly spoke about us. Unfortunately, the burgers also tasted very oversmoked. Since valuable time on the parking ticket was lost due to the long waiting time outside, my husband headed towards the car. A young waitress came and asked if my daughter and I would like anything else. I said in English that I would like to pay. She arrived with the bill and an EC machine, I gave her money and said I had to pay in cash. Then the head waiter came, visibly unhappy; he was finding it increasingly difficult to hide his opinion of us. He said cash payment wasn't possible. I explained that I wasn't carrying a debit card with me because we had only walked into town to eat, so I didn't have a handbag with me. I asked where I found the information about only card payments because I hadn't read anything about it when I went in or on the card. He understood that very well and replied in a sharp tone that they didn't have to. Very annoyed, he went into the kitchen and gave me the remaining money, of which he kept 5 euros because he supposedly didn't have any more. So let's summarize; - Obviously not foreigner friendly - Cash payment is not possible without a marking on the door - the burgers didn't meet our taste - Unfortunately the nachos were inedible - The layout of the store is inviting

Food was really good, the burgers were a bit small for the price but otherwise everything was great. Good waiters, delicious fries and mayo, beer also great.

Where do I start - Burgers tasted decent but were too small, fries not included and out of the freezer - We ordered the regular beef and the triple cheese Burger, bacon was burned on both burgers -triple cheese was a joke - drinks too small (200ml), just get bigger bottles and adjust the price (+30 Cents for the customer for 330 ml) - Personell was neither grumpy nor nice - Ambiente was very good

We were there with a group and waited over an hour for the food. Ramen noodles were terrible, rice was overcooked, salmon was burnt and dry. Never again.

Top bediening, lekker home made ice tea. En heerlijke koekjes bij de thee. Top gezellig en leuk sfeer op teras. Ook lekker warm.

We ate here, we both had a chicken sandwich with avocado. It was 2 slices of brown bread, a fatty chicken from the deep fryer and half an avocado on top. My husband and I didn't eat this either, but we paid the full price. Very unfortunate, but we don't eat there anymore
