I went to Oost specifically for the good reviews. The portion was large, but the food was simply not fresh and old. The nasi goreng was hard, really old, and tasteless—just a few days' old rice mixed with soy sauce. The chicken had nothing Surinamese about it, with a peculiar taste as if cooked meat had been left in the refrigerator for a few days. And in general: like many other takeout restaurants, stop heating food in plastic; it's harmful to your health, and use bowls.

It's a small restaurant, but I was very surprised by the food. You can eat there, but don't expect a restaurant atmosphere. Otherwise, it was good, and the food was delicious. The service was perfect, nothing to complain about. They get a solid 10 from me.

I was helped by Hoessein, a very friendly man, and there was a real homely atmosphere, so I immediately felt right at home. The best roti roll I've ever had!

Probably the warmest welcomes we’ve had in Amsterdam! Hoessein, the owner, was so kind and helpful, walking us through the menu and suggesting what to try. The food was incredible — comforting, full of flavor, and made with love. The Roti and Beef were absolutely delicious! Highly recommend if you want to experience authentic Surinamese food and Hoessein’s amazing hospitality.

We happened to come here with a group of friends. The owner, Hoessein, was super friendly and welcoming. And the food was just as delicious as the atmosphere!

Absolutely love this place! Me and my friends sat in at the one table they have inside and Hoessein was so welcoming! I had the tempeh roti (the veggie option) and it was delicious! This place is great and some of the tastiest food I’ve had in Amsterdam!

Incredible food. It might not look like it initially, but the food is incredible. I’d recommend the POM with white rice. Phenomenal.

Unfortunately, they don't stick to their opening hours. I traveled all over Amsterdam only to discover that the restaurant decided to open at 5:00 PM today. Normally, it opens at 12:00 PM.

Based on the 5-star reviews, I went here for dinner. Upon entering, I found the restaurant rather unpleasant. The owner grabbed a wet table from outside and placed it next to the curtains where the food was displayed. The food wasn't particularly good, and I paid €39 for two meals and one drink. It wasn't worth it for me. I think the 5-star reviews come from locals who eat here weekly. The owner is nice, but he could pay more attention to the food and his restaurant.

My first time trying Surinamese food and Ali and his team had me convinced with the first bite! We liked the options on the menu, the really nice spicy dipping sauce, the quick service, the quiet living neighborhood surrounding the restaurant and the hospitality of our hosts. If I wasn't just a tourist I would definitely come back as a customer!

Visited Amsterdam from New Orleans in the US. Great little place I found when I was recommended Surinamese food by a local friend. The man who took my order was really kind and suggested the chicken roti. The roti was great! A little bit flaky and chewy. And the chicken dish with the potatoes and green beans was exactly was I needed in that moment. Really comforting food that fills the soul. Recommend adding the yellow pepper hot sauce to the roti before scooping up some of the chicken and sauce. It balanced out the savory curried sauce with a bit of fresh, sweet spicyness. The woman who cooked the meal was so nice and told me how she made it when I told her I loved it. Thank you for having me!

We were very disappointed by this restaurant, which is actually more of a low-end caterer. We're not very well set up, but it could be charming if the food was really good, as is sometimes the case in very simple restaurants. The microwaved dishes are just okay. The prices are not in line with that: a €2 supplement for an egg we didn't order. The slightly rancid banana at €6! I don't recommend it at all.

Thanks to Mr. Ali, we had delicious chicken roti and veggie roti! It was my mom and dad’s first Surinamese meal, and my mom said, ‘The tender chicken and rich curry were the best!’ The Indonesian dessert Spekkoeken that they served at the end was also really delicious :)

The food wasn't good. It used to be staffed by Javanese people, and the food was delicious back then. The nasi was too wet. Not really authentic Surinamese food, unfortunately!

Price of 14 euros suddenly becomes 16 euros at checkout because of egg and container (not mentioned in advance). And really a very high price for a roti with chicken leg compared to other places where the roti is fresher and better. The roti pancake is even wrapped in plastic here and is a bit tough (so not fresh)

If you want great food and a warm welcome, this is where I would go!
