My first time trying Surinamese food and Ali and his team had me convinced with the first bite! We liked the options on the menu, the really nice spicy dipping sauce, the quick service, the quiet living neighborhood surrounding the restaurant and the hospitality of our hosts. If I wasn't just a tourist I would definitely come back as a customer!

Visited Amsterdam from New Orleans in the US. Great little place I found when I was recommended Surinamese food by a local friend. The man who took my order was really kind and suggested the chicken roti. The roti was great! A little bit flaky and chewy. And the chicken dish with the potatoes and green beans was exactly was I needed in that moment. Really comforting food that fills the soul. Recommend adding the yellow pepper hot sauce to the roti before scooping up some of the chicken and sauce. It balanced out the savory curried sauce with a bit of fresh, sweet spicyness. The woman who cooked the meal was so nice and told me how she made it when I told her I loved it. Thank you for having me!

We were very disappointed by this restaurant, which is actually more of a low-end caterer. We're not very well set up, but it could be charming if the food was really good, as is sometimes the case in very simple restaurants. The microwaved dishes are just okay. The prices are not in line with that: a €2 supplement for an egg we didn't order. The slightly rancid banana at €6! I don't recommend it at all.

The owner is incredibly friendly. I ordered noodles, chicken ketjap, and roti for two people. It was just the right amount, and I want to use some very strong words to describe how much I enjoyed the food.

Thanks to Mr. Ali, we had delicious chicken roti and veggie roti! It was my mom and dad’s first Surinamese meal, and my mom said, ‘The tender chicken and rich curry were the best!’ The Indonesian dessert Spekkoeken that they served at the end was also really delicious :)

The food wasn't good. It used to be staffed by Javanese people, and the food was delicious back then. The nasi was too wet. Not really authentic Surinamese food, unfortunately!

Completely by chance ended up on the way from Oosterpark to the station & very glad we stopped there. The welcome and service by Ali is very warm. Food is simple, but tasty. The children also ate with taste.

Price of 14 euros suddenly becomes 16 euros at checkout because of egg and container (not mentioned in advance). And really a very high price for a roti with chicken leg compared to other places where the roti is fresher and better. The roti pancake is even wrapped in plastic here and is a bit tough (so not fresh)

If you want great food and a warm welcome, this is where I would go!

I always have a great experience coming here, became my favourite roti in Amsterdam, and I tried so many! It's fresh,tasty without being heavy on the stomach - Also the other dishes are incredible, and very moderate prices. One shoutout to the owner Ali, who always puts a smile on your face and is fun :) thank you for the food, will see you soon!

This place was unexpectedly closed during opening hours.

To start with, very friendly man. That says it all. I am half Surinamese myself and am used to the kitchen because I am used to it from home. This was far from it. It is heated up in front of you, the containers are filled ridiculously little. And the food tastes like nothing. The store looks unkempt. Storage boxes everywhere. We paid 45 euros for 2 containers of nasi with chicken. And the containers were not even full. It is packed very unprofessionally, there are dirty things everywhere, next to the microwave. That the food is not tasty is possible, but you can not call this a restaurant and especially not a Surinamese one. Then the gentleman asks you to leave a review. I want to share my honesty if you think you are getting food here, sorry but it is really a waste of your money and it is super dirty to eat. You are a thief of your own wallet if you do that!

First time trying Surinamese food and it was absolutely amazing. We got the tempeh roti and beef rendang with noodles — with spicy sauce (it is STRONG but delicious). Ali was so friendly and personable while we waited for our food — thank you Ali! 10/10 would recommend

After finding out there is a big Suriname’s community in Amsterdam, I wanted to explore the food and I wasn’t disappointed. The food was amazing!! The owner was very welcoming. The place felt very homely with few seating but that wasn’t an issue. I’d recommend to go there if you’re visiting Amsterdam for the first time.

Wow, what a disappointment. At first I thought: a 4.8 review must be good — well, not. The first impression upon entering was not good, but I didn't want to immediately judge based on appearance. In retrospect, I should have done that better. Unfortunately, this high rating does not appear to be reliable.

This is really not worthy of Surinamese food! I don't quite understand Google reviews.

I ordered noodles and nasi with chicken fillet here. The chicken fillet was supposed to represent ketjap chicken, but it was far from it. When I got home the food smelled sour and unfortunately I had to throw it away after tasting it. The rice was super hard and tasteless. The noodles tasted like boiled spaghetti. As described in other reviews, additional costs are imposed for, for example, plastic containers. The seller is a friendly man, who I had a nice chat with. For me this is not worth repeating. It is not Surinamese food from the Surinamese kitchens that I am used to (I am Surinamese myself). Gi mi sranang mang: no go spender yu moni djaso. Bori yu oso njang. Dis na loes bere.

We had a great time. The meal was delicious and the chef was particularly friendly and attentive. A nice surprise: my son even received a little gift! 😊 I recommend this restaurant.

The owner Ali was nice and welcoming to his guests. Bear in mind this is not a restaurant is more of like home owned kitchen and there is not eating space for more than 4 people. The food was better than expected given that he warmed it in the microwave. A bit of an underwhelming experience but service was good

Took a bite here with my girlfriend, the food was super good (especially the Roti) and Ali was a real host, guided us through all the options and was super helpful, friendly and sweet. Pretty cheap too, considering the high quality of the food and the cost of Amsterdam in general. Really recommend!

Came into the shop with a friend to try roti for the first time. Very impressed, talk through all the options with us and had great suggestions, we had the chicken fillet and Tempeh. Good serving sizes and great service. Will definitely be coming back.
