We met my daughters there, and all four of us had a very positive experience; the staff were friendly, efficient, and attentive, the atmosphere was great (it was incredibly busy, but the tables were well-spaced), and the food/menu was just as it should be at a good sushi place. No complaints. We'll definitely be back.

Just had dinner here with the family. Best sushi I've had in a long time, and we eat sushi regularly. The rice was nice and soft and sticky. Lots of choices, a good size, and well-filled. The grilled dishes were also very tasty. Service was fast and friendly. And the dessert buffet is a delicious way to end the meal. Definitely worth coming back.

After going to quite a few all you can eat restaurants before this one didn’t made a lot of sense as you need to pay for all the drinks, even cola.

The sushi is good for the price. But I have to give 3 stars only because of the manners of the manager, this is now how you should treat clients. The rest of the staff was lovely.

so...after not going here for a few years i decided that tonight i wanted to... i've eaten here QUITE a few times...no less than 100, to be perfectly honest...since they opened across the street/canal from where they are now...they used to be where the VIP place is... for many of those years it maintained an EXcellent standard... but this time was DEFinitely different... missed orders are normal no matter WHAT ayce place i've ever eaten at...and there was only one tonight. no big deal...the service was EXcellent...one of the high points, in fact...friendly, patient with my questions...and prompt to clear away finished dishes... but some of the dishes were 'flat/personalityless'. the tuna, for one...lacking much flavor... the lamb cutlet was raw in parts. there was no offered sauce with the gyoza and the tempura shrimp might as well not have HAD any sauce on the side for its lack of flavor... i have to say, in all honesty, though...both dishes were good withOUT the sauce...it's just that they would have been that much better if the sauce was accompanying or...there was just a bit more effort put into making it flavorful. thoughtless/uncaring, it might seem. the ebi tempura roll was, again, flavorless, as far as the shrimp, itself goes...and what was that SAUCE? indiscernible flavor mix. another drawback was no place on the menu/app where i could put specific requests, such as 'no ice'...one CAN call a waitperson over and make the request, though...kind of defeats the purpose of the app, but...so it goes... it seems that they're trying their best, in subtle ways, to cut corners...the chuka wakama is no longer a salad, but a cup...and they 'pad' the small amount with, i THINK, rice...it was hard to tell WHAT it was underneath...but it sure wasn't seaweed... and then...i had a small scoop of both the black sesame and green tea ice creams...probably the biggest disappointments of all because i LOVE them both. when they have some flavor... which, again, indicates they are buying the cheapest versions they can find... on the plus side were the sesame balls...but i can't live on sesame balls, alone...i doubt i'll be back to eat here again. just not worth it for me. if you want a decent ayce sushi/grill place try tatsu. two in Haarlem and one in Leidschendam, at the Mall of the NL. i've never been disappointed eating at these places...

I think this is a really nice, quiet location. The sushi is delicious and they're not stingy with the fish. The staff is friendly. The dessert buffet could be a bit more extensive.

The food service is very fast, and all the grilled dishes are delicious. We found the sushi quality to be okay, but not as fantastic as we're used to from this chain. Finally, we were disappointed that many of the desserts at the buffet were already gone or at least weren't being replenished. All in all, a visit to this restaurant is still well worth it.

Great service and very fast! Portions are small, which works perfectly for an all-you-can-eat experience. Tasty dishes, good variety, and a clean space. Only downside: the lighting is a bit too bright—dimmer lights could create a nicer atmosphere.

When we went there, we chose this restaurant for lunch and arrived at 4 p.m. However, they told us it was considered dinner time and that we had to pay the dinner price. Since the hours were not specified in the rules, we were not aware of this, and we really didn’t like the situation.

Used to offer great selection of sushi at low prices. Disappointed to see the menu selection for sushi was drastically reduced (e.g. sushis with tofu skin, surimi sushi, etc.). Would have preferred paying more for the previous/ larger sushi selection, if the reason for cutting the menu was to cut cost.

The food at Shabu Shabu is excellent. It comes quickly and the staff is friendly, but what I find incredibly annoying is that when we wanted to pay, we asked how the tip was distributed. The woman said the tip wasn't shared among everyone. I find it very reprehensible that not everyone gets a tip, even though they clearly work hard for it. If something could be done about this, we would definitely come back.

If you tell customers to wait at the door, you should be attentive to them as they enter. You shouldn't be rude to people waiting at the door just because they're looking at the menu.

The flamed salmon sushi deserves its own fan club. Lightly torched, smoky like a scandal, and smooth as a late-night confession. It doesn’t just melt—it seduces. One bite and I’m ready to write sonnets, propose marriage, or at least order another round. And let’s not pretend this is a casual outing. This is ritual, this is luxury, this is therapy with soy sauce. Shabu Shabu isn’t just my favorite sushi place in Leiden. It’s a lifestyle choice.

Expectations weren't too high, because it's a chain, but luckily we were surprised by how good the experience was! The service is good, fast and friendly. The sushi and also the side dishes are really delicious! I think the price for an all you can eat is quite reasonable and the summer deal with unlimited drinks made it complete. The acoustics are not great, but I have experienced worse at this kind of restaurants. The only annoying thing was the phone that rang quite loudly and often 😉.

I recommend the menu for 38 Euro, you can try many perfectly prepared dishes without any restrictions. Everything is tasty, fresh and varied. The service is helpful and patient 😀

I really liked the food at this restaurant, good options with type of meals and desserts. However quite a disappointing experience with the service. Guy on the phone was very strict and unhelpful during the booking. Also strange (and unreasonable) rule of mandatory one drink per person, and they don’t provide tap water, is that even legal for a restaurant? when we got the bill-I was asked to order a drink since I didn’t order one. (They offered to add a cheapest water to be bill which still costs 3 euros…). Since we were in a rush to catch the train, I asked if I can get a drink in bottle or can to bring away (also offered to pay statiegeld), manager guy just said “no”, really unfriendly and completely not trying to help. Took quite a while to get a glass of ice tea, luckily I brought a water bottle so I could bring it away. Missed the train due to this whole situation:( Why treat your customers like this?

Good service. But the quality of the food has really deteriorated. Many things were not tasty. The sushi was quite good. We left after 50 minutes because it just wasn't good, and some people also felt nauseous. Unfortunately.

Went for dinner on Sunday evening. It was very busy and that is understandable, but the tables seem to be stacked closer and closer together. This makes privacy and normal conversation impossible. The quality and range of sushi is also becoming smaller and lower. However, the price keeps rising. There are now only 2 types of sushi with fresh tuna on the menu, to give an example. Furthermore, a lot of fried rubbish in the sushi, making it impossible to distinguish between chicken and shrimp. So tasteless. For example, the filling of the “tuna mouse” sushi is becoming less and less and the proportion of rice is increasing. Shabu was one of our favorites and we have eaten here very regularly over the years, so we immediately notice changes in quality. It's such a shame and for us the size is now full. This was our last visit to shabu. Both Leiden and Zoetermeer. There are plenty of authentic Japanese restaurants where you can have a much nicer and tastier evening for the same money.

Delicious sushi, hot dishes and very tasty fried garlic with various dishes. A very tasty and diverse dessert buffet, with ice cream, fruit, sweet desserts, candy, popcorn and chips.

I was there yesterday and was impressed. The quality of the products was poor, the ingredients were not fresh and there was long black hair in the food...

Don't eat here! After we had a nice day, we wanted to have something to eat before we went to see Soldier of Orange. it went completely wrong. When we returned we both suffered from severe stomach pain and nausea. Which ultimately resulted in a super romantic setting and our hotel. We spent more time together on the toilet than in our own bed... vomiting and diarrhea all night long... what should have been a very nice evening was ruined for us.

How well they have managed the logistics in this all you can eat in 2 hours Shushi. And then also excellently prepared "snacks". Just open the app, order a round of food and enjoy. That Calpis soda is delicious by the way! Highly recommended for children and adults.

Nice place, good food and friendly service

I've eaten here before and it was terrible, but today we were served extremely poor quality food. One cold, the other undercooked. Rice was not tasty. The proportion of the sushi was also not right, for example a lot of rice, barely any filling and a lot of sauce on it. After the sushi I had a mentos taste in my mouth that didn't go away so I don't know what went wrong there. The misho soup was also not good. No soup just the noodles and that was cooked and put in a bowl it seemed. After this I politely went to the staff because I was not satisfied. I could not be helped in this and I remained very polite. Mentioned that I also found it a shame because the time before I was satisfied. At that moment, the “team leader” wanted to sell me a paid dish himself and quickly stated in an irritated manner that he could do nothing and that the concept is that you can taste everything and if you don't like it, you can say rudely. have bad luck. I'm always positive myself, but this didn't make any sense. I will never go here again because of this experience. And definitely don't recommend this restaurant. If anything, I think you should at least be listened to. And not that it is said "I can't do anything for you, if you want the bill and leave, that's fine too" I often eat out but I have never had an experience like this. Very unfortunate…

Delivery took much longer than promised and the sushi tasted old and stale, while the calamari were sloppy and soft. Just no.

Ate here yesterday. Very tasty sushi and also the meat (grilled ribeye is a favorite). Furthermore, a nice restaurant. Dishes arrived quickly and at a good temperature. You can get your own desserts and they also have a lot of choice: soft ice cream, ice cream and all kinds of small pastries (macarons, cake). You can order using your phone by scanning a QR code at your table. This restaurant is definitely recommended!!

In terms of choice, I found the food a bit limited. You also have to wait until you have finished the food before you can order again. Fairly freshly prepared, but not all that special. Most of the waitresses did not give me the feeling that they enjoyed working there. Were very short and I think a bit grumpy. Too bad it can't include drinks, but apparently that's where they have to make money. Would not recommend this restaurant.

I suddenly have an addiction to Sushi because of this place! So my husband introduced me to sushi just last year. Before then, I was skeptical but since my first visit to Shabu shabu, I can say I order take in maybe x2 a month if not x3 🫣🤭 It is sooooio good. Fresh, great delivery service through thuisbezorgd and I had it only once that the whole sushi was messed up like the biker fell off the bike but for the rest 👌🏾

Fine to just eat sushi. Shabu shabu as we know it! A bit crowded and sometimes things go wrong with the service, but they are busy, all in all worth 4 stars!

Very mediocre. The food was okay but sushi where you expect fried food to be warm arrived ice cold. Given my pregnancy, I didn't have much choice, so it is a shame if fried chicken sushi is limp and cold.

Delicious food, the restaurant looks clean and even the menu is not sticky! Food was delivered quickly and there is a dessert buffet with different types of spekkoek, ice cream, macarons, cakes, etc. However, it took a very long time before the empty glasses and plates were collected. Especially the glasses. At the end of the evening there were 7 glasses on the table and there were only 2 of us. Because the tables are not spacious, it was difficult to add new dishes.

We had a really delicious meal at Shabu Shabu Leiden! The sushi was really tasty, crispy nori and not too much rice. Surprising dishes and the service is lightning fast. Usually after ordering, the first dishes were on the table within a minute. The hot dishes were also very tasty, such as the chicken with black pepper sauce. All in all a really delicious meal!

Last Friday we had dinner in the city.. first evening of our weekend away. I became very ill during the night and suffered food poisoning at the ShabuShabu restaurant! Very annoying those 4 nights, 3 of which were sick in bed. A waste of my holiday, a waste of my money.

A perfect place to eat sushi for the all you can eat sushi lover. There are also plenty of options for both vegetarians and meat lovers. And don't worry for the few, you can ask for cutlery or accessories for your sticks. Recommended: if you take sesame balls, ask for condensed milk! that makes it really tasty!

37 euros per person plus drinks and surplus to add to some dishes in the all you can eat formula. For 5 people, one of which is a 10 year old girl and the other a 13 year old girl and 3 adults we often have 222.30. It seemed a little expensive compared to the other time I was there, I think the other time we often got 33 euros per person. Honestly, the price increase of €4 after 3 months doesn't seem justified to me.

The food was really delicious. Only the way of ordering is very inconvenient. As a non-regular sushi eater, you don't actually know what you are ordering, and because you order electronically, the waiters also don't know who ordered what. So everything is put on the table and you just have to figure out what belongs to whom. That made it messy and quite confusing. I really didn't find that useful. But there was really nothing to complain about the food itself, we had a delicious meal and discovered new flavors.

The sushi is very tasty. But the other hot dishes are disappointing. You should definitely not eat Korean fried chicken because it just looks like drops of dough that have been fried. We couldn't spot a chicken in it. Many of the other hot dishes were also "ok"

Very good food and service. We were there for lunch. They have a cheaper rate for kids, but no colouring pages or other "entertainment" for them to last out a meal that takes a couple of hours. I was also disappointed that the dessert buffet is not included in the lunch. We'd been there for dinner before so we had anticipated dessert. There was no notice that the dessert is not included when booking online. Update 01JUN2024: Our kid is now 10 and we have no concerns about behaviour at a restaurant, and she'd been talking about sushi for a while so we brought her for dinner. We enjoyed our meal as the food and service was excellent as usual. When we booked we could choose between 17:30 or 19:45 and selected the earlier option. In hindsight that was a poor decision. Lots of kids who have not learned to behave appropriately yet - or possibly this is a cultural thing, but I've never seen adults in restaurants stand on the seats, scream, run in the aisles or slide under the tables. A bit like watching Stuart on SNL, only IRL x 3 tables near us. We had to shout to hear each other, which I'm sure just exacerbated the whole thing. Anyway, it's also a relatively pricey dining experience, so we won't be back for a couple of years. Hopefully we'll grab that later timeslot after all the kids who shouldn't be out after dark have gone home.

Fun, tasty and fast. Even without a reservation (not recommended!) we were able to get a table quickly. Then order via an iPad and the food arrives on the table super quickly. The drinks are also excellent and quickly on the table. Dessert, however, is a mystery to me. Don't notice that they are trying to sell or actively offer that. Atmosphere is fine. However, you are a bit close to the other guests. In the end we had a great meal. Assume around 40 euros per person. However, if you only drink cola it will make a big difference :))

We had a great “Shabu Shabu”-experience recently. At 7.30PM on a Friday evening we had a reservation. As expected it was very busy, so we highly recommend to make a reservation in advance. Just to make sure that they have a table available for you. It was amazing to see how the personnel was handling the amount of orders that came flooding in every time someone placed an order. They were very helpful, professional and friendly. The process to order food and drinks was very easy to understand and use. Just scan the QR-code and place an order. It’s great to see how well executed and integrated their system is to place orders using the QR-code. The food and drinks were really good and tasty. We loved the sushi and grill dishes. And it was nice to finish off the great meal with some nice desserts. Definitely recommended to spend some quality time here, either by yourself or together with friends/family.

The restaurant was okey but the food was low quality nothing special to remember or to come back. Prices was to high okey you have free dessert but really nothing special for such high price . Really disappointed.

We had a delicious meal, the service was fast and friendly. The system for ordering from your phone works fine. The decor could be a bit more attractive. It is now really a space where as many tables as possible can be placed, but it does not look very cozy. What was really nice was that roses were handed out for Valentine's Day.

Mediocre food — terrible service. The staff are very rude and they accused me of stealing: it’s not allowed to take the food out, and I used the napkin to wipe my mouth. They thought I hid something in it, asked me if there is anything in it, and when I said no, the waitress said “show me”. Bizarre! Good luck if this is how you treat your customers.

I’m a sucker for an all you can eat option, and this definitely hits the spot. I had a good time and order a bunch of stuff, the menu has a very good variety, everything tasted good and the service of the waiters were extremely top notch, fast and polite. Would definitely be going back.

Food is okay some bit fat and I remember there being more choices? But 38,50 per person is too much, especially when one is younger this is way too high. Probably the last time.

Echt, we zaten nog niet eens toen we al moesten opgeven wat er gedronken moest worden. Mijn vrouw vroeg gemberthee. Geen probleem dochter ice tea green, geen probleem. Ik vroeg om iets als jasmijn thee, waarop het antwoord was and I quote "nee!!! We zijn geen chinees" vreselijk lachwekkend voor een Japans restaurant waar de groene thee (zijn voorstel) wel degelijkChinees is. Waar de kids frietjes kunnen eten, ze macarons en eclairs hebben als dessert en oh ja softijs is ook zo Japans he.. Deze ene persoon deed mijn verjaardagsuitje bij de eerste zin omdraaien tot een negatieve ervaring. Gelukkig was de rest van het personeel veel vriendelijker en een stuk professioneler dan deze bij het restaurant horende vreselijke vent. Zij brachten de sfeer in het overvolle restaurant. Lieten zich niet uit het veld slaan, ook al hoorde ik hem als klant ook naar deze harde werkers snauwen. Verder een Shabu² zoals er in elke stad wel een is. Het voedsel is constant, gember wat er echt bij hoort om de verschillende stijlen te neutraliseren is echter op de bon. Tafels worden direct bij vertrek schoon gemaakt. Dat zouden ze in Leiden ook eens met de menukaarten moeten doen. Shabu² is wat mij betreft echt niet verkeerd, maar die mensen die geen zin hebben om te werken, moeten iets anders gaan doen.

Goede sushi, zoals je bij SHABU SHABU gewend bent. Tafeltjes staan wat dicht naast elkaar. Één keertje bijna volledige bestelling niet gehad, maar dat kan ergens anders perongeluk zijn uitgeserveerd.

We hebben hier geluncht na een bezoek aan het rijksmuseum voor oudheden. Het restaurant zit in een gezellig straatje en het personeel is vriendelijk. De kwaliteit van het eten is prima. Porties zijn iets groter en het is goed bereid. Persoonlijke favorieten: Japanse hamburger, heerlijk mals zalm, de special makis en de sushi met tonijn. Proef op de som was de inktvis: deze was lekker mals! Kortom: ben je in Leiden en houd je van sushi en/of tepanyaki, ga dan zeker even hier langs!
