Sham West in Chassébuurt

One of my favourite restaurants in Amsterdam. The staff are delightful, the food is absolutely divine and the atmosphere is always warm and welcoming.

Fabulous food! Our waiter also was very helpful with suggestions and even offered us a couple of delicious items, complimentary. Highly recommend!

I stumbled upon this restaurant by chance and decided to give it a try even though I'm not vegetarian. The dining room is small and cozy, with colorful lamps and a dim light that highlights the beauty of old Damascus pictures on the wall. The waiters are welcoming and helpful, the food was served quickly. I enjoyed the starters (baba ganoush, muhammara), dense and rich of flavors. However, I can't say the same for the main course, namely rice with eggplants and other vegetables: while the rice itself was fragrant and well-cooked, the mix of vegetables was bland and tasteless, making the dish quite boring overall. As for the bill, I feel this restaurant is overpriced: 20eur for a modest portion of rice and veggies, without any meat of course. All in all, the experience was okay although there are better options in Ams.

Great place to try Syrian food. Literally as good as it gets in this part pf the world. Truly delicious with a good variety of grill and cooked meals.

We had lunch there and were more than satisfied. We received a very warm welcome and were immediately made aware of the parking spaces, making sure to park correctly; otherwise, you'll be fined, especially for electric cars. The food is served and presented very creatively, with both quality and quantity. Very appealing. The taste is fantastic. The selection is very diverse and excellent. I recommend eating there for everyone. Enjoy!

Have eaten at this restaurant several times now. Every time the food is fantastic and the service is super friendly. The Sham Deal or Sham Royal is recommended to share. This way you get a bit of everything and can taste a lot. If you have preferences, you can also indicate this and they will be taken into account. We even got dessert on the house. Price/quality is top. Update 12/3/2025: Once again a delicious meal. I.v.m. Ramadan there was an Iftar menu with different options. We had a very extensive meal with 5 people and, as always, delicious. The muhammara remains our favorite! Recommended: the lemonades on the drinks menu are delicious!

Always wanted to go here based on stories, but never been before. Now I know why everyone likes it so much. Delicious authentic Syrian food! Each dish is a delicious experience, from the Foul muqalla (broad beans with yogurt) to the lentil soup to the Djaaj Mtafaeh (chicken in lemon with cream), the Maqluba (rice with eggplant and lamb) and the Shish Taouk (chicken skewers). Also try the fresh lemonade with mint, really delicious and thirst-quenching. We will definitely come back!

Amazing food with also very helpful staff that directed us to the best choices on the menu! Portion sizes were not too small, however I could eat buckets of that Muhamara and it still wouldn’t be enough.

Their food is one of the high-quality Arabic food with Amsterdam standards. We like their rice dishes and BBQs! They are amazing! But unfortunately, they are very inconsistent in quality. Food that has sauces or salads is sometimes delivered and sometimes not. The Kebabs are sometimes spiced properly, sometimes not. If they fix these issues, it would be a great restaurant, but until then, as a customer, you are up for a surprise every single time. -- Adjusting it to 4 stars as the quality has been consistently good for the past few times I ordered.

I am used to ordering or eating at Sham Ost restaurant in the East, but this time I decided to try delivery from the Sham West branch in the West, and frankly, I was positively surprised! The order arrived quickly, the food was neatly packaged and stayed hot. The taste was the same as what I was used to in the second branch, good and fresh. This confirms that the quality is consistent in all branches, and this is very important for the reputation of the restaurant name and customer satisfaction 😊

Good and decent Middle Eastern food for a reasonable price

Sham West is the place to be. Highly recommended! The authenticity of the dishes is unmatched, with every bite feeling like a warm embrace of Syrian tradition.

This can be used to save money. What's wrong with this thing? We have 2x een menu for 2 people besteld, but we haven't het volledige menu gekregen and wel de volle prijs betaald. That's why I don't think so. This is not the first time, the precies are the same as the people who live in the Netherlands. We have 2x Royal Shams best..and we had no choice but to have 1 Royal Sham with an extra hoofdgerecht. We must be there for you 2. We can accept it in your manual. Thank you very much. The restaurant is beautiful, but the credibility is very, very bad. We ordered an order for four people and they manipulated the order until they did not place all the orders. It was a very bad thing, the bill was very expensive for orders that did not land on the table. This is not the first time this has happened. It happened several times with people around me and they talked about it at Sham Restaurant. Playing around is never acceptable, even with Dutch or foreigners. It's really something to be ashamed of. Unfortunately, the restaurant is very nice, but the credibility is zero.

Definitely the place to try out real eastern Mediterranean food. The grill was off the chart…we can’t wait to come back again. A remark also to the friendly and attentive service!

Ordered from Sham for the first time and very disappointed. Ordered mezzes for 2 people and it seemed as if each mezze consisted of less than two tablespoons. The shish tawuk rolls were also very small. All in all way too expensive for the amount of food you get. A pity since good portions are always served in Arabic cuisine.

The mezzes are highly recommended, especially the hummus with meat, you can wake me up for this! There are also more than enough vegetarian options for enthusiasts. In short; really recommended!

We ordered Sham Special with 9 different mazas according to the menu, but received only 8, of which twice the same Albert Heijn style salad. When we called the restaurant they said there was nothing they could do. How about delivering the missing maza we paid for but didn't receive? The restaurant only suggested that maybe the Uber driver took some food, or we counted wrong. See attached picture to review our counting method. It's also misleading we selected the "normal" dish, deliberately not picking vegan of vegetarian, but received a fully vegan menu nevertheless. Where's the beef?!

The rating is only 5 stars because I cannot add 5 more It was really the best restaurant we tried in Amsterdam Everything is perfect, the food, the quality of the ingredients, the mood, the music, and last but not least, the smiles of the staff. Never ever I have been received with such warmth. For me of you visit Amsterdam or even if you live in it, you have to come and taste the flavorfullness of the dishes that Sham west will cook for you.

Pero si eres un visitante que tiene un número limitado de comidas en la ciudad, hay muchas más opciones.

Really dissatisfied with the quality of the meal, which made the quality of the changed portion even worse. And today's worst purchase, €35 for a meal that lacked meat. After the telephone conversation the gentleman was really unpleasant.

All in all, I had a nice experience at Sham West. The staff were very friendly and quick. It didn’t take long for the food and drinks to arrive at our table and the atmosphere is generally speaking very authentic, which you actually really appreciate. The food, however, was just mediocre. As someone from the Middle East, I’m just a bit biased and have had pretty good middle eastern cuisine growing up. The dishes honestly just didn’t do it for me. They’re delicious, but nothing extraordinary.

I have been here several times and the food was always delicious but somehow it seems to have gotten even better! Especially the maqluba feels like a warm embrace in your belly, so satisfying and comforting, it’s almost therapy. The starters we got - hummus, muhammara and baba ganoush were the perfect combination of such varied flavours we couldn’t decide what we liked best, each impressive in a different way. I recommend coming with company so that you can order many different dishes and share :) As you would expect of Syrian hospitality, the staff are warm, welcoming and helpful. Very reasonably priced, especially considering the size of portions and how good the food is.

This place is the closest I can find in the Netherlands to true authentic Arab food. Highlights were the vegetarian maqlouba, vegetarian bamia and the kibbeh. Not only is the food amazing, but the staff are so friendly and attentive. Couldn’t recommend this place more

I visited Sham on the 30th July during the evening and had one of the best, if not the best, Middle Eastern/Levantine food I’ve ever come across in Europe. Their grilled meat is extremely flavourful and fresh, their appetisers taste and feel authentic. As some one who has been to Damascus twice and lived in the Middle East, I can assure that Sham is an excellent choice. Not to mention the kindness and warmth in the atmosphere created by the waiters and staff.

Very delicious authentic food with attentive service! The house wine is pretty good. I LOVED the tabakh rojo I had (stewed veges such as eggplant, zucchini, potatoes, tomato, peas etc serviced with bulgur)! The falafel was super moist! It’s quite busy so make sure to make reservations.
