Fantastic food, fresh and tasty, very friendly service

Fantastic experience at Smit Vis aan de Haven! Today, for the second time this weekend, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at Smit Vis aan de Haven. What makes this place truly special is that everything is guaranteed to be prepared super fresh. Additionally, the service is excellent: the staff is incredibly friendly, and they very attentively take your personal wishes and dietary needs into account. Add the lovely location to that, and you have an absolute recommendation. We will certainly be back here soon!

We have eaten here several times already, and it is and remains top-notch. The quality of the food and the friendly service are the main reasons to come back again.

We first visited this restaurant a year ago, and at that time it was genuinely excellent. Unfortunately, after returning on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, it now seems to have gone from excellent to merely average. Although the superb service we remembered was still there, the quality of the food had noticeably declined. We returned mainly for the fish and chips, but this time the dish was poorly prepared. The fish was unpleasantly slimy in the middle and appeared to be undercooked and the Bisque soup was extremely salty. I was also rather surprised by the response I received when I asked whether we could bring a small birthday cake with candles for our party of five, as we were celebrating an 80th birthday. I was told that although this would be possible, the restaurant would miss out on the profit from a dessert order. We would therefore be expected to order at least a round of coffees or pay a plate-service charge of a few euros to have the cake served. Knowing that we would be ordering starters, main courses, beers and bottles of wine, I found this response a little distasteful and unnecessarily focused on profit. Our final bill came to €80, but we chose not to order coffee and instead ate the birthday cake at home. Considering how impressed we were after our previous visit, the overall experience was particularly disappointing. We had really looked forward to returning, but sadly, it did not live up to the high standard we remembered.

We sat outside on the terrace and I haven't had such a delicious meal in ages (mussels with fries & fish and chips). On top of that, it wasn't expensive, so I will definitely be back!

We had a delicious meal, generous portions (balanced value for money and quantity as far as I'm concerned), friendly staff and good hospitality. I had two starters and a side for the main course. My father had the mussels (in season) and my mother a fish salad, and they were also more than satisfied. Definitely a place to come back to.

Not a very cozy place to sit, but the food is truly outstanding. The crispy salmon tartare with rice is amazing, the service is nice, and the fish is FRESH. Definitely recommended for a tasty bite to eat!

Delicious food, really worth trying.

Mixed fish is served on a plate unheated and floating in a fishy/watery liquid! We waited 20 minutes after the main course and then asked the wait staff to clear the table. We complained about being ignored. Excuses: it's busy at the moment?? Okay. Too bad, not our problem, right! The quality is mediocre, the service is laconic and not alert. Tried it once, and given the price level and the service, the quality clearly fell short, what a shame!!

We recently went to eat at Smit Vis for the second time. The food was very tasty, but unfortunately, a few hours later, I suffered severe food poisoning that lasted 2 days, hence the low rating. It was a very hot day, and the staff indicated that the air conditioning was broken and that the temperature in the restaurant had risen to 40 degrees during the day. I suspect something went wrong here. I reported the food poisoning to the restaurant and received a nice, empathetic response. However, what I do find very strange was that they then asked me for my phone number because she was 'going to see what she could still do for me'. After that, I never heard from them again. So, I wouldn't be coming back anytime soon.

What a lovely afternoon at the Piushaven. We had a fantastic meal here and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Everything was taken care of down to the last detail. The quality of the fish is truly outstanding. The presentation of the plates stood out in particular, with beautiful fresh herbs and lemon slices that completed the dishes perfectly. It was a feast for the eyes and the taste was just right. We will certainly be back here soon. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a good lunch or dinner by the water.

The food was absolutely delicious, everything tasted fresh. The staff was also super friendly and we received great service. It's a shame I live so far away, otherwise I would have come more often. For those who live closer, I definitely recommend this restaurant 👍.

Food was amazing Crabsalad sandwich was only 18€ and was huge with fresh crab and fish Was amazing. Cant Comment on the atmosphere as we were there for a late lunch so was empty. The oysters were fresh and delicous. 70€ for 2 people to dine

A beautiful establishment with delicious wine and the finest fish dishes. We were there for a light bite which was sublime. The staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is good, especially if you like a sleek look. We were pleasantly surprised by this nice restaurant.

We were looking for a restaurant on the waterfront since the weather was great, but everything was extremely busy and fully booked. By chance, we ended up here, and I’m so glad we did. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious, with a great mix of flavors and freshness. The atmosphere was calm, the décor was lovely, and they accommodated us last minute without a reservation.

The dishes were all super fresh! The salmon tartare with crispy rice and the tuna steak are highly recommended. The only downside was the amount of sauce. Because a lot of sauce was served on the fish, the delicious freshness didn't come through as much. The tuna steak with samphire, for example, became quite salty because the sauce seemed to have soaked into the samphire. In the future, it would be better to put less sauce on the dishes so that it is less overpowering. All in all, we had a very nice experience!

Actually amazing. Best food I ever had in Tilburg. Initially the place seemed crowded and loud, but once seated it quickly stopped to bother me. Can't wait to be back and taste more of their delicasies

I wanted to be sceptical, but i have not much knowledge about seafood, but THIS IS SO GOOD AND TASTY, the fish was just melting like a melting cheese, the soup is amazing, and the dessert IS WONDERFUL

We had a fantastic meal today. Wed and Thurs, so we opted for the shared dining menu @42.50 per person. And you get more than enough. Delicious appetizers (hot and cold) followed by a delicious bisque. (Thom ka kai soup was on the menu, but we could easily switch to a bisque.) Followed by a main course consisting of fries, scallops (2 people), tuna steak (1 person), two types of whitefish (1 person each), served on beds of samphire puree, etc. And all that for that price... a great deal. Also, excellent wine, very friendly service, and excellent chefs. Enjoyed!

Very friendly service, also fast. We found the food mediocre. Some things were tasty, but the squid was incredibly tough. I read this in an older review, apparently nothing was done about it. It's strange that a specific fish restaurant doesn't know that you have to cook it first, before grilling it.

What a fantastic fish restaurant! All the fish is freshly prepared and can be filleted upon request. A truly underrated restaurant and well worth a visit.

Fantastic!! Must try to believe! A friend and I had 2 lunches here while in town for the Awakenings festival last weekend. WOW! Absolute 3 star Michelin quality food, presentation and service with a casual, relaxed vibe and great outdoor seating. Our first lunch was 2 daily lunch specials (Euro 34 and a steal!) with beautiful appetizer of butterfish carpaccio and main course of sole. We also had 2 additional appetizers of tuna tartar taco (Euro17) and Yellowfin ceviche (Euro 17) . All beautifully presented and fresh. The service was friendly, welcoming and fast. The second lunch we ordered the same lunch special.Moments later the waitress came back and said 'the chefs noticed your were here yesterday and wondered if you would like something different'. What?! Fantastic pro-active offer and noticing us and caring. We asked for a different appetizer and they on the spot came up with a magnificent dish that looked like it came out of a gourmet food magazine (Tuna and beetroot carpaccio with micro veges and an interesting sauce). Great wine selection by the glass and nice desserts. We met the chefs after and thanked them. Young, talented and deserving of recognition and success, This is worth a commute even if you are not in Tilburg but in the region (or changing trains at s'-Hertogenbosch, which is hard to avoid if you are returning to Amsterdam!). Do yourself a favor and experience this restaurant and it talented chefs and fantastic friendly and smiling waitresses!

Best fish restaurant ever!! Everything there is super fresh and super tasty. I ate sea bass, halibut and fruit de mar and they were all equally good. I think there could be a little more atmospheric lighting. I find it a bit too white and light, which makes me feel very much in the spotlight.

Great first experience at Smit Vis aan de Haven! The fish was exceptionally fresh and full of flavour, a real delight for lovers of good fish dishes. The dishes were perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. The wine and cocktails completed the dinner completely; both were carefully chosen and delicious in taste. The staff were also friendly and attentive, which added to the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended for an evening of enjoying fresh fish and good drinks!

Lekker maar ook bij ons duurde alles heel erg lang, terwijl er maar drie tafels bezet waren (incl de onze). Bij navraag werd er gezegd dat er een leerling kok was en er bij een andere tafel iets met de rekening mis was gegaan. Bediening is zeker vriendelijk en het eten lekker maar je kunt ook te lang in een restaurant zitten.

Het eten is zonder meer 3/5 of 4/5 waard - de meeste visgerechten. Zijn vers, lekker bereid en voldoende omvangrijk. De bediening is uitermate vriendelijk, maar bijna 2,5 uur wachten op het hoofdgerecht kan echt niet!! 18.45 besteld en 21.15 op tafel. En nee hoor geen excuus.

Het eten was prima, duurde echter heel erg lang. Keuze was voldoende echter vond ik de prijs/kwaliteit verhouding niet kloppen. We zijn er 2 uur en 45 minuten geweest voor enkel een voorgerecht en hoofdgerecht met zijn vieren.. moesten meerdere keren de bedieping bij ons roepen. Na het afrekenen geen ‘bedankt’ of ‘doei’ of iets wat erop leek. Erg jammer.

Top fish restaurant, but also meat and vegetarian dishes on the menu. So if you are a real fish lover, you can eat there with the entire family and group of friends. For lunch or dinner. Top chefs and very hospitable service. I would love to come back again.

Lekker vis eten in een bijzondere ambiance. Hoe bijzonder is het om aan een haven verse vis te eten, in een industriële sfeer. Met terras. De vis is werkelijk van uitstekende kwaliteit! De kwaliteit /prijs is echt prima. Fijn dat de wijnkaart goed aansluit bij de gerechten. Ook de vleeseter kan een goed gerecht bestellen Een klein opletpunt is de gebakken tong: de boter was net iets te heet/zwart.

Fantastisch gegeten hier, en niet voor t eerst! Geweldige bediening en eerste klas gerechten! We hadden een paar heerlijke oesters vooraf en daarna de octopus tentakels.. zó lekker! Grote portie, geserveerd op wakame salade, stevige bite. Vervolgens de Argentijnse gamba’s, een bord vol heerlijkheid! Had de koppen er bijna bij opgegeten! Ik weet al wat ik de volgende keer weer ga bestellen.. lekkere wijn erbij.. niks meer aan doen. Een absolute aanrader voor vis-liefhebbers!

Octopus need more boiling, so hard to swallow and eat. Also its not spareribs, try to think out of the box a solution to marinate it and to serve. Service was excellent!

Excellent seafood. I had the mixed oyster platter and mixed fish platter for 2 (includes 4 shrimp). All of it really delicious.

Ik heb 3 sterren gegeven omdat 3 1/2 ster niet mogelijk is. We hebben lekker gegeten in dit visrestaurant aan de Piushaven. Voor ons de eerste keer. In Tilburg staat deze plek heel goed aangeschreven. Smit is een combinatie van restaurant en viswinkel. We hebben beiden gekozen voor het 4 gangen menu van 47,50 van de chef. Dat bestond dit keer uit een voorgerecht van gemarineerde zalm met dressing, een aspergesoep met zalm, dorade met asperges, pompoencreme, truffelchips en tot slotte ijs met creme in een deeg bakje. Het smaakte ons goed, maar ….. voorgerecht en soep waren niet echt opzienbarend. Dit zet ik zelf ook op tafel. Het hoofdgerecht was wel een feestje. Het nagerecht kende vooral prachtige presentatie en was ok. Het restaurant ziet er wat steriel uit en de tafels staan erg dicht op elkaar. We weten inmiddels alles over het voorgenomen huwelijk van het stel dat naast ons zat. De witte huiswijn is goed. De bediening is leuk en weet goed wat er op tafel komt. Toilet is mooi en schoon. We rekenen 130 euro af. Ken je Tilburg niet, dan is de omgeving zeker de moeite waard. In 10 jaar tijd heeft de haven een geweldige facelift gehad en gonst van de activiteit. Je kunt heel fijn zitten en vlak naast het water naborrelen of gewoon een hapje en een drankje doen.

Food was nothing special and very pricey. Better grab a portion of bickering on the Wagnerplein. People are very friendly and it feels very chic.

Great fish restaurant, the food was delicious and the service very friendly. I found the restaurant too bright for my taste, but that is of course my personal opinion. We will be back and therefore highly recommended. Reserve in advance because it can get busy.

Fantastic fish dishes in a very relaxed atmosphere. I only have pictures of the starter and dessert. The large prawns in between were so inviting that I forgot to photograph them.

Our first visit to Smit Vis aan de Haven. Certainly not the last!! I had such a wonderful evening and a delicious meal that I didn't take any pictures of the dishes. REALLY RECOMMENDED.
