Snackbar Sphinx in Oostelijke Eilanden/Kadijken

A real Amsterdam snack bar. Looks like a time capsule from the 2000s. Friendly owner. Great place to grab a quick greasy bite in the evening.

This is a good snack bar. Always order two croquettes, they're tasty.

A kebab sandwich without love, with an extreme amount of sauce. More like a sandwich with sauce and kebab. The solution was getting a lot of lettuce and extra meat. I even asked if I had to pay extra, but all was good. The meat was good, that was the only downside, unfortunately.

3.50 for a bottle of water is absurd, a smile on your face is also free…

The lovely man was about to close but prepared a fantastic meal for us without any problem; I will 100% come back here again.

It was actually already closed, but he still went ahead and made two Turkish pizzas for us; they were delicious. Incredibly sweet owner.

I've faced constant hardships in my life, from childhood to adulthood, including mistreatment and unpleasant experiences. However, I don't think that made me a bad person. I try not to hurt anyone. But few things have been as disheartening as the lack of care put into preparing a dish. I could go on, but I don't want to cry. I don't recommend it. Move on, be happy.

One dish for €19, small, poorly presented, and a tiny portion. The vendor was unfriendly. Besides being overpriced, they charge extra for using the bathroom. A terrible experience.

I had a platter, but it ended up being more expensive just because it was served on a plate. A bit of a rip-off.

All the food is fresh. Very hygienic. Kind guy running the place, making sure everyone feels welcomed and comfortable. Will always recommend this. People mostly get something to go since they live in the neighbourhood. I love it! Thanks ♥️

After football, we were really hungry, so we wanted a tasty greasy meal! This is the place to be! The fries were perfectly cooked, as were the snacks! With plenty of sauce. The croquette sandwiches were also a nice size. The staff was very friendly and respectful. The atmosphere could be better, though :). It was good, but not fantastic.

I'd rather fast than eat here again, expensive, avoidable, not good at all, cold , small, not worth your time, staff was talking on a phonecall while eating, we asked 3 durums, and 1 of them with little spicy sauce. This guy pointed one random kebab and told us "this is the Little spicy" (lie) it was not. 9 euros for 300 gram kebab, never had rated something 1 star until now. Just unbelievable, just don't have your meal here even if it means not eating at all. Your welcome

Friendly, convenient. If you don't like the sauce that they may put on your food, mention it beforehand! I believe that there is a tendency around Amsterdam or further afield to use peanut sauce, which was too sweet to my taste.

Bad food, but totally overpriced. Prices aren't displayed correctly. Beware, a medium order of fries costs €6.50.

Falafel sandwich is always delicious!

A regular snack bar when you walk in, but they make up the prices on the spot and hope you don't find out. Croquette: €2.70, croquette sandwich: €4.75—obviously nothing. After complaining, you get €0.45 back, which is still a ridiculous price tag. Go somewhere else; these guys are trying to rip you off.

Extremely expensive, and they even try to charge you extra. €5.20 for just a croquette sandwich...

I understand why they don't list the kapsalon prices on the menu. €12.50... just act normal. The fries were completely soggy and limp. The hamburger was also soggy because of the sauce. The staff was unfriendly.

A truly radical move. From the outside it looks like a gastrointestinal trap, and once you're inside the restaurant, you realize it's more about laundering money than the deep fryer. The large fries are priced like buying a house, and they contain half a handful more fries than the smallest. You might as well eat the fries at the Rijksmuseum; they taste even better. The hamburger patty has seen better days. A €2 cheeseburger from McDonald's destroys everything the sloppy dumpling has to offer in terms of taste. Anyone who goes in there is also testing their body!!

I happened to pass by after a road had been opened up. Normally I eat a Döner every week. Now I chose an old-fashioned shawarma. The guy was funny, said he had a lot of experience and likes quality. I say Lets Go! He kept his word, a delicious shawarma with fresh garlic sauce. I'll go back again!

An old-fashioned snack bar with tasty fast food and lots of choice. Run by the same people for years, it is a busy and highly appreciated gem in the neighborhood. There is a small terrace, indoor seating, a newspaper, magazines and a toilet. Hygiene is always excellent. I like coming there.

Fries and snacks very bland and tasteless, also charging more than prices say and a very unwelcome feeling through the owner. Why serve food when you are this grumpy? Skip this snackbar I would say...

4 euros for some fries and 12 euros for a medium-sized hair salon. Way too expensive, not even that tasty. I won't have to eat here anytime soon in the future.

Great fries, food is not like the pictures. I already had a question about why you see 9 nuggets in the picture and only get 5 and then I later got 4 for €4, ridiculous! I ordered a large milkshake, but got a medium, I know because I often get a medium and now I got the same size for more money. So if you want to get fries, that's fine, but keep in mind that those people are very rude and mean back if you say something about something.

Overpriced, especially for the mediocre quality. 9,- for a very, very mediocre shawarma sandwich including Euroshopper pitas?! Just possible here. And if you have taken a special detour at 1:30 am, because Sphinx would be open until 2 am, they simply say: “no, sorry, we are already closed”.

8 euros for two small fries, unbelievable. Never seen a container so empty for that price.

the guy who makes you the kebab or whatever it's like depressed and looks at you like you're some dork, the menu doner costs 12.50, and he asks you which sauce do you want on the fries, not it you want it or not, then you will realize that that 5ml of sauce you get will be 1.20 euros, so the cost is 13.7, but nobody tells you that, you find out when you pay, also the kebab was exploding at the beginning, all of the stuff fell down, and was cold by the was, and the end of the sandwich for this reason was empty

I felt like having fries after an evening of work, this was around the corner, it was a 2-minute walk, and I wanted to give it a chance despite certain reactions, The fries were well fried, not fried too short, not fried too long, in my opinion they could have had a little more salt, otherwise nothing to complain about, two hardworking gentlemen who made my late night snack good!!

On holiday with family in Amsterdam. We live in Thailand and I miss fries especially at Sphinx. Delicious!

We specifically ordered a croquette sandwich, but unfortunately when we got home we only had a croquette. I also had the idea that the croquette was not fried properly because I had a stomach ache afterwards. Service was okay

Prima, maar 8 euro voor een pitabroodje met alleen maar vlees is echt te duur.

I ordered mixed grill and pizza, and those were not bad. But owner was weird. We are 4-person family, thogh he gave us only one fork... As I asked him 3 more forks, he pretended unable to understand, and finally said sarcastically "Wow big family!"

Weird place. We'd had a few drinks and the guy charged us €7.50 for a cheesy chips. Place was eerily quiet (volume wise) and the chap messed our order up. Wouldn't go back.

Aardige mensen, lekker eten. Ik woon niet echt in de buurt, maar als ik langs kom stop ik soms omdat het niet kan weerstaan. Ik kom hier al 30 jaar !

Patat was goed. Zaak zag er schoon en hygiënisch uit en de wc was ook schoon niks met blote oogen opgemerkt. Alleen de medewerker of de eigenaar kwam tijdens genieten van mijn frietjes er tussen babbelen . En ik had niet zo zin in zijn levensverhaal te horen

Goed, lekker en goedkoop eten en vriendelijk personeel. Je wordt ook snel geholpen.
