A warm, cozy place with very friendly staff who offer hospitality without being asked, something I don't experience very often anymore. Hold on tight! The pizzas are all excellent, with a delicious crust and full of fresh ingredients, the menu is clear and well-organized, and the prices are very affordable and certainly not overpriced. Sotto is everything its exterior promises. If you're a pizza fan, you'll love Sotto.

I went there today with my wife. The crust was light and perfectly baked. My Tonno had that pure, full flavor without being too salty, and my wife's Tartufo was simply next-level creamy, with a balanced truffle—everything was perfect. It truly felt like a blessing to my taste buds. This is how authentic pizza should be.

We came here as a group of four. Three of us wanted to order food, while one person in our group has celiac disease — a medically diagnosed condition, not a lifestyle choice. Because of the high risk of cross-contamination in this restaurant’s kitchen, she cannot safely eat their food and brought her own meal in a small sealed container. The staff refused to let her eat it, claiming there is a “legal ban on bringing your own food.” That is simply false — there is no such law in the Netherlands. What they did was pure discrimination against someone with a chronic medical condition. Refusing even to discuss a reasonable accommodation — such as allowing a medically restricted person to eat their own safe food while others dine — shows a total lack of empathy, professionalism, and understanding of basic human rights. In 2025, in a supposedly inclusive and progressive country, this kind of behavior is unacceptable. If you have any food allergies or dietary conditions, avoid this place at all costs.

Delicious pizzas, friendly service. The only downside was the acoustics, but we were also unlucky with a family with four screaming children. Once they left, it was fine. Kudos to the Italian waiter (manager), we received excellent service!

Lovely pizza restaurant. Highly recommend for date night or a visit with friends. Visited on recommendation of a local friend. Atmosphere: Recommend booking as very busy and lively (Friday night). Tables inside and benches outside. Moderate seating but not lots so book to avoid disappointment. Quite a high noise level. Overall really good vibe. Food: Pizzas really tasty. We went for Salami, four seasons and Romana. Everyone really enjoyed the taste. Saucy and yummy. Only improvement would be to sell crust dips. We also started with a rosemary focaccia which whilst lovely resembled more of a pizza than focaccia (plenty to share between 3). Would recommend ordering this. Service: Very friendly. English menus available if needed.

Look, there are so many pizza places in Amsterdam, this place just really under delivers. Staff are nice, location is nice, ambiance and vibes are good. The Pizza is just sad. No rise, super tough, I watched a full grown man at another table struggle to cut his pizza…Forget about it 🤌🏼

Really good pizza (not exactly cheap at €22-19), thin and crispy with plenty of toppings. Few customers at lunch, so it's quiet, but the service is fast and friendly. Unfortunately, there are a few wasps inside, which seem to have made a nest there.

We enjoyed a delicious Indonesian meal during the busy Sail Amsterdam days. A table just became available, and we were so happy!

We used to come and enjoy their pizzas quite often but we have been avoiding it for a while as one of the guys working there (it seems like they’re the manager from what I’ve seen in other reviews) was incredibly rude. He seemed to have a problem with people ordering water and basically took the menu off my hands and told me he made the rules over there. Pizzas quality have also declined so there’s far better places in Amsterdam to enjoy a nice pizza. Sad as the place is really cute but not worth the terrible service.

There were seats inside, but we were told they were booked, we sat outside for about an hour, but no one came, and the seats inside were empty. The food was delicious, 5 points, thanks to the chef, the waiter was a man of short stature, he was negative and unfriendly, so a minus

We had a great meal at Sotto Amsterdam! 🍕 The food was really good, but it was a shame the team seemed a bit stressed, which kind of dampened the atmosphere. We ordered something twice that they "had" but ultimately didn't have, and then got something else we didn't actually want. A bit sloppy. But honestly, the food itself is definitely the place to be! And we were probably just unlucky with a busy evening.

Food was okay, but not for the price. They have made everything electronic, you order, pay and (tip?) with a QR code. If waiters don't have do do the work than it should be cheaper, not the other way around.

I think compared to many other places in amsterdam this place is overhyped. But the one star comes from the fact that the service is terrible. A man couldn’t give me a carafe of water but rather brought me water one glass at the time, to make his life more difficult but also to drive a point that I should buy more drinks to deserve a whole garafe on my table (I bought a coke and two pizzas:)). What? I understand if I would come and order one coke but my brother I am eating full meal with another person and I can’t get water? Why to be so principled at the cost of making everyone’s life more difficult? Oh yeah, and the waiter said we are lucky to even get a glass. Well, what can I say, if you think that such great idea for service is saving you money, have your one star

I had lunch here with a friend and was impressed from start to finish. The ambiance was perfect for a mid-day catch-up — soft music, natural light, and plenty of space between tables. We shared the mezze platter to start, which had fresh hummus, warm pita, olives, and grilled vegetables. For my main, I had a chicken shawarma wrap that was juicy and full of flavor. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully made. Our waiter was polite, helpful, and even recommended a dessert that we hadn’t planned on ordering — their homemade baklava, which was amazing.

After sitting and waiting for 20+ minutes waiters finally thought about doing their job and brought menus and cutlery. Pizzas are good enough for Amsterdam standards. Once we ordered, everything came pretty quickly Wine carte is quite poor.

Our daughter was homesick so thanks to the reviews we tried this pizzeria and I have to say it is super so much so that it has been our point of reference for every evening we are in Amsterdam. Apart from the impeccable, kind and helpful service, the pizza is really good with quality products and well cooked. The prices are absolutely normal indeed, given what they offer in the area for similar meals just below the Average. I place and nice immediately near the Naval Museum. It is advisable to book. Well....so so pizza. Dough tough to cut and bite. Toppings and cheese just fall off the dough. Not enough sauce. Disappointed. As well, we couldn't sit at open tables because they were reserved (per the owner) so we had to be crammed at the bar (bartender was super friendly though). The reserved tables were empty throughout our dinner and were empty when we left. Also, we ordered pepperoni but it is actually salami, which, in our opinion, is not a good substitute.

very nice pizza and service except for the pedantic little bald guy that feels the need he should seat you. Gets angry and weird as is if it a strange just to sit at a table when there are many many free. We got shouted out and then could sit at that table we were already standing at. Throughout the whole evening he acted as if he owned the place and we should be lucky to eat at his establishment.

The pizza was nice and the focaccia was fresh. We also appreciated the limoncello on the house. Overall, it’s a nice place. The location is good, and the outside seating is a nice touch.

I live across the street so I have been client of this place for 9 years. I always take the same, margherita gluten free: it was in the years excellent. Let me tell you, since they changed management I don't recognize the place anymore. Today we hit rock bottom. The glutenfree pizza was of horrible quality, chewy and similar to the one of the supermarket . There were 3 pieces of mozzarella and some burned basel. The chewy dough was undercooked so I asked to cook it again because it was not good. They brought the same one, which in the meanwhile was cold and so rubbery that I could not use the knife to cut it, I cut it with the hands. All this in an not existing service outside. They have the Q R code and they make you pay before, so no one comes to serve you. I had to go with the pizza inside to ask to cook it more. And no knives for the pizza as well (also for that I had to go inside). When finally I saw a waiter outside and I complained he said that he didn't dare to take my complaint inside (really?): only thing to do was write a review. The manager was nowhere to be seen and the waiter didn't care enough to call him outside. So: zero service, cold and chewy pizza, ingredients of discount quality and all of this for 16 I repeat 16 euro. The glutenfree pizza before was totally worth the price and the service friendly and so warm . But this...you need to be evil or a thief to charge this price and not to care about people sitting in the cold outside with a supermarket pizza. I don't know if there are still people from my country inside making pizza, and which kind of amateur management runs the place, but they should be ASHAMED to serve this horror to people, especially italians like me. I used to love the place, I brought in the years countless groups of friends. What the hell happened to it?

Came here last night. The folks that run it are from Napoli. You don’t get more authentic than that. If you don’t speak Italian, don’t worry - I heard these guys speak at least 3 other languages including English. This country never ceases to amaze me. Anyways, the pizza came out in minutes, was hot and delicious - a perfect Neapolitan Margherita pizza. Service was five stars. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.

We hadn't booked and the restaurant was busy but they managed to find a table for the 2 of us. We both had pizza and it was the quickest service I have ever known and the pizzas were possibly the best I've had. Really recommend this place but book in advance unless you're feeling lucky!

Disappointing and unwelcoming experience. We arrived at 9:30 PM hoping to enjoy some drinks and dessert, but were met with surprisingly rude and arrogant service. A waiter curtly informed us that we must order dinner first if we wanted dessert. The explanation? That it's still "dinner time in Southern Europe," which felt more like a lame excuse. The tone and attitude made us so uncomfortable that we chose to leave rather than endure further disrespect. A shame, as I was genuinely a fan of the place after my previous visits.

Even in a big party the pizzas came out very fast and at a good pace. All of the pies were amazing—we specifically loved the truffle, prosciutto, and salami ones. The tiramisu was light in the perfect way after a pizza dinner. Staff was very accommodating with extra plates and water etc. Will definitely be back.

Tried the pizza here, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite meet my expectations. The crust was good, but the dough and sauce were overly salty, and the toppings were quite sparse—it felt a bit underwhelming overall.

Dear sotto, I was hoping to score a pizza from you. I received a rude man on the phone who told me that the kitchen is closed. It is clearly indicated on the site. 10:00 PM Close, so I called at 9:30 PM, which I think was well in advance. Now my pregnant wife and I are very disappointed. New around here and already terrible with all those hormones from Sotto and my wife.

Very popular so book! I managed to squeeze in between bookings and I was still made to feel important and like I could take my time. Service excellent. The food was excellent, generous toppings and tasty dough. Also very good drinks so ask for what you like! If I have time I will go back

Here we do VPN but not only that and almost every time I should have stayed precisely on the fundamentals… Dynamic and multilingual service.

Update: Unfortunately not as good as before, prices have gone up, like everywhere in the city, but the quality is not consistent, sometimes a great pizza, other times there is almost nothing on it and the dough looks like chewing gum. The staff is also busier with themselves than with the guests and often cannot be reached. In addition, you don't feel comfortable indoors in winter because of the drafty door. Very unfortunate, I no longer recommend it. 2022: Came to live in this neighborhood a few months ago and were warmly welcomed by Sara and the gentlemen. They are busy but always take time for a conversation and a joke. Nice to have around. Pizzas in the restaurant, paired with the delicious wines, are tastier than at home, but we have to wait until this K.. time (differently formulated C...... time) is behind us / Insanely delicious pizzas always try a different pizza at the moment the favorite is the cheese pizza with spicy salami. Cheers!

Very tasty pizzas, very friendly service. Original place!. Tip: do something about the front door.....it doesn't close properly and that meant we were in a bit of a draft.

Pizza not to eat: soggy and spongy base (sludge), while Neapolitan pizzas are known for their crispy base. Service slow and sloppy. Tables on top of each other and if you are unlucky: shouting from a large group.

Friendly staff, however rather long waiting time (45 minutes for 2 pizzas)... takeaway orders were given priority, which is a shame. For cooking, good thin-crust pizzas.

Carnevale salsiccia pizza. Hardly any salsiccia, just 2 small slices. And just 2 thin slices of mozzarella. Had to go out eating elswhere to still my hunger. Do not understand the high rating. The dough was perfect, but that is all.
