Lovely terrace. Friendly, cheerful service. And they don't stop by every five minutes to ask if you want to order anything :-)

Had a delicious lunch today at De Basiliek in Hengelo. For the first time, actually. But definitely not the last. 😊 Lovely terrace to sit (in the shade if you prefer), friendly and efficient staff. And the traditional Flammkuchen (served on a wooden board) was delicious. Highly recommended.

Nice location, but the food is still a bit lacking. The only flavor you detect is salt, except for the satay sauce with the chicken satay. It's bland and doesn't taste like satay sauce at all. The fries were also way too salty.

Ate here with friends. Food was tasty, chose vegetarians, tasty. Only I didn't understand the accompanying fries. Meal was with rice. Staff was friendly and helpful. First time here, left a good impression.

Delicious apple pie home made with whipped cream and coffee. Was super tasty fresh and not too sweet. Friendly staff. Cozy place inside.

Excellent lunch spot. Seats are not super comfortable and when it is busy you sometimes have to be patient. Excellent bacon sandwich. Krombacher on tap is delicious.

Spare ribs and ribeye were excellent. Sateh, understood by our table companion, also very tasty. Dinner menu perhaps a bit too limited? Service could be a bit more visible, but was overall good and friendly. Decoration and atmosphere are somewhat austere.

Cappuccino should be 60 to 65 degrees. Ours sat on the bar for so long that it was no more than lukewarm. Basilica roll was without topping while other guests did. All in all a mediocre performance.

Once we came in we were allowed to look for a spot after waiting for 15 minutes no one was with us but at the neighbors and across the table they were emptied and the neighbors already placed an order and when asked how it tasted he walked away but unfortunately we were no longer served. got up and left

alles was perfect; de bediening, het eten en de entourage. We waren zeer verrast dat zo,n jonge kok alles voor 9 mensen voor elkaar kreeg. Het eten was heel smakelijk en mooi opgediend.

Unfortunately, we cannot make a good objective review of this case because we were not helped about 20 minutes after arrival. Didn't receive and no one from the staff said hello to us. Disappointing.

Fine for drinks, but not recommended for eating out. Service was okay. But it took a long time to get the food and the food was quite a disappointment. The main course was cold and very little for all of us, even though we are small eaters. Shame. Well said. We won't be there again.

A cafe for seniors with a nice environment. The terrace fills up quickly and the tables are quite cramped. I'm afraid they're suffering a bit from their success. Very long waiting times and some mistakes here and there. If it doesn't get worse, it remains a nice location to have a drink or eat.

Great service. Delicious food. Clean and spacious toilet. Nice location in summer. We'd love to come back when we're there.

Verrassing menu, Zeer slecht. Ik heb de indruk dat ze het voedsel dat over datum was kwijt moesten, en dit maskeerden met heel veel zout. De baas zelf, om je beklag te doen, in geen velden of wegen te bekennen. Kortom een leuke plek voor een bitterbal en een drankje maar geen plek voor een diner.

Read quite a few reviews here from people who first had a great experience (why not a 5 star review then?) and later a disappointing experience. Then they think it's necessary to post a review..... Or whining because they closed earlier. Then you go somewhere else. We like variety, but we have returned here several times. Delicious food, great service. Never been disappointed. And if that does happen, it will still be 5 stars for us. They're just people....

voor glutenvrij moet je hier niet zijn !! salade besteld met kip, de kip werd gepaneerd geserveerd. Na opmerking hierover kreeg ik een salade zonder kip aangeboden, met de opmerking dat de kok te druk zou zijn. Bijzonder teleurstellend !

Wij hadden uitzicht op het personeel wat pauze aan het houden was en alcohol aan het nuttigen waren. Ook hebben ze uitdrukkelijk verteld blij te zijn met dat wij “EINDELIJK” wouden afreken, na een half uurtje op het terras te hebben gezeten.

Only Dutch menu. When asked the waitress for some help, she told us she does not have the time to translate the menu. Wonderful hospitality! Left immediately, so no opinion on the food.

Had lunch with a friend. Service a bit messy but nice. The carpaccio sandwich was quite expensive (Euro 12.50) and you can expect something. Unfortunately the quantity was quite disappointing. 2 slices of carpaccio and a lot of lettuce with a brown, thick sandwich underneath. It was just really little. This was named after the service, but unfortunately not much was done about it. Atmospheric building. The chairs were a bit uncomfortable.

Nicely decorated, with two different rooms, one with antique attributes and the other a bit airier. I would love to come back there again.

The flammkuchen from the Basilica was delicious the first time. It is just disappointing that on our second visit the waiter didn't even ask us if we wanted to eat anything, but only took drinks once and then was nowhere to be seen.

Nice location with a nice terrace. Still needs some finishing on the inside, but it's like new and you can see through it. I can very well notice that the staff is not yet well adjusted to each other. Order did not go through properly, resulting in double receipts and overpayment. Ultimately got my money back. We came by for the schnitzel offer with a beer during the fair, which looked very tasty. From the image in the offer it looked like you got two small schnitzels and a sauce with fries. However, after ordering it turned out that you only got a small schnitzel with fries. Well that's the biggest problem, except the food I got was completely cold. I indicated this at the first available time when staff came by. The response was that it would be passed on to the kitchen, but nothing further was done with it. In short, a long wait for a short dish, which could have been easily solved.

From the outside it seemed like a nice place for a nice snack. Once inside it turned out to be a somewhat elderly crowd, but anyway, let's give it a try. Service was very nice. But the food, which is what it's all about, was quite a disappointment. The simplest main course, a chicken thigh satay, was just not good. Satay sauce was bland, like being given a jar of peanut butter. The whole dish looked like it had been under a warming light for hours. Entrecote itself was fine, but side dishes were really poor.

Carpaccio was excellent...the salmon and sea bass were very average...excellent side dishes. The service was very nice..serving drinks was very slow even though it was not busy. In short...an experience that is somewhat ambiguous...partly good and partly not worth repeating...

Vandaag voor het eerst hier langs geweest voor de lunch. Naast twee thee moest het flammkuchen, pancetta zijn en voor mij de eggs-benedicte op aardappelpannekoekjes. Het duurde nogal lang voordat het eten kwam en daarna bleef het ook nog een tijd op de balie staan... De flammkuchen misten de rucola en de parmezaanse kaas. Bij navraag kregen we de opmerking terug "wilt u dat erbij hebben dan?" Tsja, het staat zo op de kaart... De eggs-benedicte waren hard gekookt, ook iets wat je niet verwacht. De bijbehorende hollandaise saus was verder waterdun. De smaken van beide gerechten waren gelukkig wel goed. Of we hier weer komen? Denk het niet...

Heerlijk terras, mooi en fijn plekje. Vriendelijke bediening en snelle service.

Van de week laat nog even heerlijk gezeten. Vandaag, zaterdag, liepen wij om 20.30 weer naar jullie maar alles was al dicht. Vreemd, er staat immers op het bord dat jullie tot 22.00 geopend zijn. Een gemiste kans, je kunt niet zomaar eerder dicht doen. Afgelopen week was prima, de bediening moet nog veel leren. 20 minuten op het terras, uiteindelijk naar binnen gegaan en staan daar 3 meisjes gezellig te kletsen. Terras is prachtig, dat is waar.

Heerlijk gegeten en top bediening! De flammkuchen pancetta is een echte aanrader, net als het broodje kip. En nog nooit zo’n lekkere ijskoffie gehad, heerlijk!

Maanden terug zeer gezellig en prima lunch gehad. Nu met mijn partner weer terug. Tafels om ons heen kwamen leeg, werd wel afgeruimd maar niet schoongemaakt. Mijn bestelde uitsmijter kwam niet op het gevraagde witbrood en moest over. Mijn partner kreeg de gevraagde mayonaise niet, ook pas later. Dus we hebben niet tegelijk gegeten. Daarnaast werd er niet meer gevraagd of we nog wat wilden drinken. Ook de zeer vreemde vieze kartonnen sausbakjes zijn een ramp. Er is toch niks mis met een glazen schaaltje en een lepeltje erbij. Na het netjes hebben uitgelegd wat er mis was, wordt er niets mee gedaan, alleen maar gespartel waarom het wel zo is. Hoop dat jullie er wat mee doen, want we waren zeer teleurgesteld hierover.

Topp zaak!! Eten is super, bediening is super en de drank kaart is heel divers. Van lekkere wijnen tot een kop koffie. Vooral de plek in de zon is vindt ik mooier dan de andere plekken en de stoelen zitten ook lekkerder! Super leuke plek!

Mooie sfeervolle zaak, vriendelijk personeel. Lekkere dingen. Je voelt je er thuis. Volgende keer weer als ik in Hengelo ben !

Wat een prachtige locatie! Lekker in het zonnetje, uit de wind, op het terras zitten lunchen. Echte verse sinaasappelsap, heerlijk broodje zalm! Een aanrader!

Leuke inrichting met kerkbanken en boekenkasten. Prima service, eten ook prima en snel op tafel ondanks drukte.

Een aantal maanden geleden een overheerlijke instagramwaardige high tea gehad! Wat een heerlijkheden! In een woord super! Na de vorige keer een geweldige ervaring gehad te afgelopen woensdag 15-3 besloten dit nogmaals te doen. Wat werden we teleurgesteld. Kan natuurlijk gebeuren wel een beetje zonde. Zondag toevallig in de stad met een vriendin en besloten het nog een kans te geven omdat mijn vriendin heel benieuwd was nav mijn verhalen. Helaas opnieuw teleurgesteld. Zowel bediening als het eten vielen enorm tegen. Mijn vriendin maakte zelfs de opmerking dat het wel duur was voor het eten dat we kregen. Niks extra's dat word toegevoegd, saaie opmaak van de borden. Echt ontzettend balen na mijn geweldige eerste ervaring.

Eten was erg goed. De bediening was vriendelijk, maar niet efficiënt.

Heerlijk rustig lunch plekje op een mooie locatie. De flamkuchen met zalm en clubsandwich zijn aanraders.

Ziet er van binnen leuk uit. Leuke details behouden. Misschien zou de cappuccino iets warmer kunnen. Appeltaart lekker.

Niet gegeten wel wat gedronken. Bediening was ok maar kan iets professioneler. De verbouwing is nog niet helemaal af.....

Kom er vaker. Vind het het beste locaal van Hengelo.

Heb lekkere cappuccino besteld, maar was alleen niet warm, dat vonden wij jammer. Ik hoop dat het vervolgens warmere cappuccino wordt geschonken.

Een nieuwe plek om gezellig af te spreken. Zeker het bezoeken waard.

In Hengelo gesitueerd op de mooiste locatie, en met allervriendelijkst personeel! Eten was lekker. Prima dus. Helaas ging er bij onze hightea (ca. 15 p.) van alles mis in de organisatie, informatie, logistiek en uitvoering. Echt jammer, soms lachwekkend en op het laatst ook wel irritant. M.n. dat er tussentijds niets van de overvolle tafels werd afgeruimd, alles bleef staan, de bediening liep steeds met lege handen terug. Chaos en nogal ongezellig daardoor.

Wat een leuke aanwinst voor Hengelo! Sinds kort is het nieuwe Stadscafé "De Basiliek" geopend, schandalig dat wij er nog niet zijn geweest, dus de hoogste tijd om een bezoekje te brengen! Wij waren met z'n tweeën maar bij het zien van de kaart zagen wij dat er een gerecht met gehaktballen op stond, dus direct gebeld met DE fijnproever à la "gehaktballen expert van Hengelo" (wenst anoniem te blijven). Hij was er binnen een oogwenk. Leuke bediening, die snel inspeelde op een extra gast. Onderling een fijne samenwerking, veel lol en oog voor de bezoekers! En de test met de gehaktbal? Met vlag en wimpel (in het zomerse herfst zonnetje) geslaagd! Meneer is een echte kenner en kieskeurig, dus dat zegt genoeg! Deze was met liefde gemaakt en dat kon hij proeven.. In de verte horen wij al muziek..
