Gisteren samen met de kinderen en opa en oma gegeten. Op advies van de bediening gekozen voor een verrassingsmenu met diverse bites. Echt een aanrader en alles was er meer dan voldoende. De prijs kwaliteit verhouding was uitstekend en zeker voor herhaling vatbaar

The food is very good for really affordable prices. The music is also great and the interior design is very welcoming as well. The staff is so kind! My family and I are truly pleased by our experience here. Amazing work!!

Delicious and enjoyable dinner tonight. Very friendly service in a great spot in the bay window. The timing of the serving was excellent, so we could eat in a relaxed manner. And certainly important; the dishes were delicious. Compliments to the chef. We will definitely come back!

Wij hebben vanavond gezellig en heerlijk gegeten. We zaten op een mooie plek in de erker. De bediening was vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Er was een fijn tempo van uitserveren, waardoor we lekker relaxed konden eten. Een aanrader!

In een mooi interieur genoten wij van een lekkere lunch. De porties zijn bovendien uitgebreid, hier ga je zeker niet met honger van tafel. Dit is zo'n zaak waar je met plezier wat langer blijft zitten.

Visited this cafe and was actually satisfied, but found two days later they charged me the amount double. Tried to claim and contact them via email, not possible. They only have a Facebook website, are not available via messenger and do not pick up a call by phone.

Hier gegeten. Geserveerde eten klopte niet wat op de kaart aangegeven was. De salade leek wel in één keer op het bord gesmeten. Friet koud. Nadat de bediening vroeg of het gesmaakt had de opmerking gemaakt dat wat geserveerd was niet klopte met de kaart. Bediening reageerde ongeïnteresseerd. Lopen hier in het vervolg voorbij. In verhouding duur en er is hier keuze genoeg.

There was heavy rain, so we decided to hide inside and wait it out with some drinks, but since the weather was not getting better, we ordered snack board. Wow... It was huge 😂 There were bitterballen, sandwiches with salmon, fresh (hot!) bread, gyoza dumplings, cheese and more. I definitely didn't expect to get so much food, but all was tasty.

Had dinner with Jan last night. Fish and Chips. The fish had been in the fryer for too long (much too hard crust) the fries were all small pieces and seemed to have been fried 3 times. When we asked the waiter about it, we were told that this is the type of potato and that there are customers who have it like crispy fries. Crispy, it was just burnt.

I really like this place. It has a very special menu. Tea made from natural herbs and fruits. I love warm seafood salad. The atmosphere is close to the live fire and there is a great view of Nijmegen square. It is not only tasty and cozy, but you can also admire the square, buildings nearby, and it is very cozy and atmospheric. I always visit this place when I am nearby. TO ALL 1000% RECOMMEND .🫶🫶🫶

Zeer vriendelijk personeel, heerlijk gegeten, mooie opmaak van de borden en we werden snel en vriendelijk geholpen. Zeker de moeite waard. Wij komen terug!

Leuke plek om te zitten, midden op het mooie marktplein in Nijmegen. Vriendelijke en snelle bediening, nette prijzen en goede kaart! Lekker gegeten (vissalade: goed gevuld en vers!).

It appears that city café Jan has been taken over. Cocktails menu has been reduced enormously, which is a pity. Beer collection drastically reduced, very unfortunate. Drinks board is still quite pricey but good. It has now become a uniformity, the specialness is gone. What we were originally looking forward to is gone, oh yes the lunch menu was almost nothing left, there were many tasty and original dishes. In short, very unfortunate. Thanks old owner, enjoy your old age. Now I'm just going to see if there are any nice spots available somewhere in the list, but eagerly anticipating what we are going to take from the menu is a great shame.

As always Nijmegen doesn't let tourists down and this cofee shop is up to the standards. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and the food a "health bomb". Eeuwig lopen wachten op ons drinken op het terras terwijl er voldoende personeel rondliep. Op het moment dat je vraagt waar je drinken blijft krijg je een bijdehandte reactie.

When we sat longer we saw that the entire bar was full of glasses and dirty dishes. Staff does little about this. Our food was served and there was hair on a dirty plate. Also my portion of fries was way too much and greasy. It looked like it had been fried twice. Toilets were very dirty and the sink could not really be used. When we wanted to leave, to top it all off, ice was crushed in a used tea towel. Good location, poor service and handling.

Hier moet iemand leiding gaan nemen. Lunch viel tegen, broodje was keihard en vet aan de prijs . Ik zou stadscafe Jan niemand aanraden. Er zijn betere alternatieven.

Nice surroundings with friendly visitors but roughly 6 groups left right with us as we were waiting for 25 min to put an order in. We have asked 3 times if we could order a drink, sadly they never came. Can’t blame the staff as they needed to do it all with just 2.

Waited 40 minutes for lunch on a Thursday, a simple sandwich, while three staff were doing nothing at the bar. Reported that we think it is taking too long. We are not offered a drink or anything in compensation. It's more of a joke. Other customers who have already ordered for us are already walking away. Not clean, cobwebs and food on the floor. We had to ask them to wipe the table when we sat down. Not to be repeated.

This terrace is in a nice spot with a nice looking terrace. The people looked very nice. The rest of the restaurant was very dirty and not clean. On Thursday evening, around 8:30 PM, I took a seat on the terrace with my girlfriend. After 10 minutes she went inside to see if the service remained. The cafe was almost empty, and the girl behind the bar was chatting with another girl. My girlfriend asked if we could have two coffees on the terrace. Yes, she would bring that right away. After fifteen minutes, still nothing, so we left.

Sat in for lunch last weekend. Service very poor. Tables were not cleared and people were not helped. Finally after 15 minutes our order was taken. 30 minutes later our tea arrived and another 35 minutes later our sandwich. Which was also the wrong one for me... and so I had to wait another 10 minutes. We saw many people leave the tables around us because they were not helped. Toilets downright filthy!

Ordered a hamburger without bacon. The hamburger came (after 50 minutes!) with bacon so it was sent back. The cook removed the bacon and had the battered hamburger served again. When we spoke to the staff about this, we were told not to complain. So, very long waiting time, unfriendly staff and a chef who clearly doesn't understand. In any case, we won't be going back.

Was in Nijmegen on business by myself. Had dinner here and the staff were lovely. Service was fantastic. They asked were I was from, if I was okay. Food was good, good size portion. The chai latte was lovely after the meal. The waitress accidentally charged me for the wrong table and came back with the extra change and explained she'd charged me too much. The atmosphere was nice, I sat outside and there was a nice crowd of people around.

Just three minutes after receiving the menu, we are told that there is nothing left on the menu available. Poof! Just like that, Stadscafé Jan, you left us with empty stomachs and questioning looks. The menu was removed almost ceremoniously, like a magician revealing a trick. You have to hand it to Jan, the café has a sense of humor. The staff, although in a sort of dormant state, always seems ready for a good joke. Is it their secret tactic to confuse and entertain the customers? Who knows! In short, Stadscafé Jan is like a dream: confusing, a bit strange, but somehow funny. Come for the drinks, stay for the unexpected twists and turns, and maybe, if the stars align, you'll even get something to eat. Visit Stadscafé Jan, it's an adventure in itself!

Nice terrace. But the sink on the toilet is broken. Couldn't wash hands so 1 star deduction.

Had lunch today at city café Jan. Chosen to sit inside, outside was also possible. We ordered two red wines, heavier variant. We were given two options and chose the Tempranillo. Delicious wine. With so many food options I say AVOID this establishment at all costs. Service sucks and Attitude stinks even more. My husband and I wanted dinner on a Monday night (hardly packed at all) and we were told they would only serve bar snacks and will take some time to serve as it is ‘busy’.we see only 4-5 tables of guests having drinks not meals. So we say ok, thinking well how long can bar snacks take. It took a good one hour and food isn’t here yet.. we were almost dying of starvation by then. No updates despite them telling us it will take 20mins (it took them one hour eventually) despite us being the only table ordering food. While we can understand perhaps they are understaffed what drove the nail into the coffin was the attitude of the staff. One of them actually said DON’T Order if you can’t wait and put them blame back onto us? No apologies nothing. We have met mostly wonderful Dutch people who are super helpful and polite but wow this establishment shouldn’t be allowed to operate. First, for not treating customers with respect and second, not being able to deliver food and service that paid customers are entitled to.

Had dinner at this cafe. Starter, salmon sushimi, ketjap instead of soy sauce, tasteless salmon and wasabi-like water mayonnaise. Main course black agnus steak, bone dry. Far too overcooked. Splash of pepper sauce, which was not requested. Attached fries cold. In the absence of a cook, the dish washer probably stood in the kitchen. Once but never again! Service and drinks were excellent, too bad they have to take the hit for the kitchen. Nice place to have a drink, but if you're hungry you better look further.

Ordered nachos and after an hour and a half I asked if they were still arriving. Earlier they were brought to a quarter by a grumpy kitchen staff member. Nachos were only half warm and the rest of the staff was not cheerful either. The table was not clean and when we asked for it nothing was done with it. Really not worth your money.

Stadscafe Jan has a nice terrace, where you can enjoy the autumn sun of mid-October around noon.

Unfortunately we ordered bad drinks, pleasant service. But not next time
