Best chicken curry sandwich in Rotterdam

Roti was decent, but the sauce was thick. Lovely people working there. Plate mediocre. Reasonable value for money. Kroepoek is chewy.

I did not have a pleasant experience. Mainly due to the unfriendly behavior and the sudden, much higher costs than expected.

The food is really terrible: pre-made spring rolls, the chicken curry sandwich had no taste. I was asked twice what I wanted on it in terms of pickles and pepper, and I indicated I would put everything on... but there was no pepper at all. The Tjaumin was really bland and "ready" quickly; the chicken was dry and tasteless. There are 3 of them behind the counter; once is enough for me, never again.

Recommend: chinese fried rice, and sweet sour pork (get the ones with actual meat, not the ones with meat balls, it’s totally different) One of the best chinese fried rice Edit 2026: tjiu yim kip is also really good. It seems the old owner jimmy sold the place so now it’s owned by someone else, but the chef seems to still be the same- based on the wok hei that the fried rice had

Simple little place with a wide selection of Chinese-Surinamese dishes. Prices have risen quite a bit recently, like everywhere, but the food is otherwise fine.

We used to come here often when we still lived in Kralingen. We came back especially for a change and it was delicious! Sure, the old owner was always very sociable. I see a lot of bad reviews, but in my experience, the food was still excellent!

First time, two chicken curry sandwiches, really delicious! Second time: new owner, it's different, but I like it! Friendly staff too.

Unfortunately, since the takeover, it isn't as tasty as it used to be. I ordered chow mein with roasted chicken; unfortunately, the chicken wasn't good and the chow mein was dry. I won't be ordering food here again; I came specifically for the delicious roasted chicken. For regular customers, it's not what you're used to. The service was good, but the food wasn't—at least not for me; tastes differ, of course.

Great for Jimmy that he was able to sell his business, but… We miss him! The new people are nice, the food is okay. It just lacks that little bit of extra love from Jimmy and co.

Stingiest takeout portion ever. The meat doesn't even reach the lid and neither does the rice.... Do I need to explain further?😅 Go to "Wah Li" is around the corner and you get twice as much; as soon as the container is full, they put another mountain on top.

Since Jimmy stopped running the place, not only the quality but also the soul and atmosphere have disappeared. It's a shame I used to enjoy coming here, but not anymore.

I ordered white rice moksie; the meat was too dry and overcooked, with hardly any sauce or vegetables. The black pudding didn't smell fresh and my tello was inedible. Super dry and hard. Like I'd had food from the day before. And all that for 35 euros. Wasted money and the quality has dropped significantly.

The key features are affordable prices, generous portions, and delicious taste.

I’ve been getting good food here for thirty years, and what should never have happened has happened..... the business has been sold!! But anyway, give everyone a chance!!! Well, I certainly learned my lesson!! A Chicken Curry sandwich and a Salted Meat sandwich. Brrr, what a flop, what a shame 😡

I don't know what I ate, but it wasn't roti. More like a mixture of potato and chicken in a kind of sweet wallpaper paste with curry on a pancake. Should have read the reviews. Never coming here again.

We've really been coming to Afobaka for decades, but where is Jimmy...? Went for dinner with a group last weekend. Had to wait 45 minutes for our order to be taken!!! We were completely ignored. People who came in later were served sooner. They were difficult about the order (only numbers from the menu and difficult about items outside the menu?). Never experienced anything like this at Jimmy's!! Also, no one came to ask if we wanted more drinks or if everything was okay? Also, regarding the complaint that a big blob of chewing gum was stuck to one of our trousers (so it was stuck to the seat), they acted very nonchalantly (put ice on it, it will come off?). When asked where Jimmy was, they were very vague and eventually said he was on vacation? Now there was a completely new team there; the daughters and son weren't there either. Normally the place is closed when Jimmy is on vacation!? If this is possibly the new owner, then it was the last time I will eat there. The food was still okay though, so I would still order takeout.

We used to be regulars. But after today, we won't set foot inside again. What unfriendly people! The food has become really terrible and friendliness is nowhere to be found! They also very unkindly told me that the payment had failed, even though I had paid. As if I were a little dog that needs to come back. I don't know where the nice gentleman is. But he really needs to come back. My parents' favorite little place, too bad, but no, never again.....

Jimmy from Afobaka has sold his business. His hygiene certificates aren't hanging there anymore either. I see new people behind the counter. When you ask if that is indeed the case, they say "I don't know." I ordered food anyway, Nasi Moksi; it was terrible!

I got roti yesterday. What a shame to give this to someone. When I opened the container, my stomach turned. It was a watery mess, and my boyfriend decided to eat it anyway, but he didn't like it either. I immediately threw my container in the trash and ordered a pizza. Never coming here again!

Good, affordable food in a relaxed atmosphere with friendly service. Meat, such as duck, is minced, so be careful of bones and splinters, and therefore of your fillings and molars. Now (Feb 2026), after years, still great.

Ordered steak ala parrilla. I got very dry pieces of beef with, I think, only one whole onion. Even the bara had onion in it. If I fart, you'll hear UUUIIII... too bad the quality has gone down. I've been coming here since elementary school.

Great place for Chinese fast food. It has a good menu and I personally really like the vegetable spring rolls and the shrimp dishes.

Unfortunately, the food was really awful. Nasi that was just shoveled over from the supermarket into its own container. Nasi Afobaka, with satay sauce smeared over the babi pangang so it didn't need chicken. The meat tasted old, and I think the fried egg had been sitting there for a week. Last time I've been here, damn it.

Afobaka is my go-to for roti and Surinamese buns. I really love this place, both for eating in and takeaway. The owner and his son (I think) are super friendly. Only thing: ordering by phone can be a challenge, since the owner talks fast like a machine and always manages to startle me.

Best value of any restaurant in Rotterdam, the portions are huge and the food is very tasty. Run by a really lovely family, a complete neighborhood gem!

I would never order chicken curry here, because I like Indian chicken curry. But I always find all the other food very tasty. And the people are friendly.

This place has gone downhill tremendously. I've been coming here for years! The rolls were very dry and hard. They weren't fresh at all. The contents of the roll were very meager. I'll never go back.

I’ve been living abroad for years now, but I used to visit often. Yesterday I was on vacation in Rotterdam, so I thought I’d grab a tasty meal at my trusted spot. What a disappointment. I had ordered a grilled meat sandwich, a tjauw fang, and a can of Fernandes to take away. I arrived at my hotel full of anticipation and couldn't wait. However, when I unwrapped the sandwich, it was a letdown. Very little meat and it stank. The tjauw fang was also poorly prepared, had almost no meat, and looked suspicious. The can of Fernandes was warm. I returned everything, but they refused to give me my money back. "There’s nothing wrong with it," Jimmy said. I am never coming here again. The place looked filthy too, and there were flies; I should have known better.

Fantastic! My favorite restaurant has been completely renovated. It has expanded with more seating in an atmospheric setting. Had delicious takeout again ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

If you want to eat delicious Surinamese / Chinese food, you have come to the right place. Friendly staff and affordable.

I used to enjoy going there, but the prices are getting higher and the portions smaller; there is a scandalous amount of nasi or bami with a dish. Also, the contents of the dishes are increasingly being (unsolicited) stuffed with cheap vegetables; you have to search for the meat or expensive vegetables like mushrooms. It is a real shame, but I am not coming here; this is just blatant profiteering. Fortunately, there are plenty of better and cheaper alternatives nearby.

I used to go here for sandwiches with my brother. That's why this place has always stuck in my mind. They've been selling good food for years, and you get a warm welcome. This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants.

Don't go! The man serves burnt tjauwmin, claiming it's supposed to be that way because it's fried without oil or anything like that, and then even charges for it, even though he knows full well he should never have served it.

We always have such delicious, fast, and affordable food here. Tip for visitors with a car: park easily and for free at the Albert Heijn parking lot across from Afobako.

Craving Moksie and ending up at AFO? I sometimes get a sandwich here, and they're always okay. I opted for Moksie Special with white rice and extra fa chong. When I got home, I unpacked it and, to my dismay, there was no sauce. And with Moksie with extra fa chong, I expected Moksie with extra fa chong. I had fa chong. But otherwise, there were two pieces of chicken, no pork belly, no "tsja chieuw" (cheese). In short, the most bland Moksie ever. For €16, I'll never eat it again. I'll just keep driving to Oranje Boom Street.

Nice people, otherwise I don't find it particularly tasty. But better something than nothing. I do grab a curry sandwich every now and then, if there's just no other option. You know how it is, just quickly grabbing something for the stomach that doesn't take too much effort...

The fried rice is absolutely authentic! I lived in Beijing for 14 years, and I can’t even remember having such delicious fried rice before! The portions are generous, the ingredients are abundant, and it's more than enough to fill you up. The owner is super nice, and the restaurant has a very cozy atmosphere. I highly recommend the chocolate cake—it's melt-in-your-mouth delicious and not overly sweet. Absolutely perfect! This is the best chocolate cake I’ve ever had! An incredibly joyful meal!

Very familial atmosphère ! Price is very affordable as well 😊. It seems like an institution in this neighborhood 😊. We were served by the father and the son, both are very friendly and warm! Our first ever Chinese Surinamese food was taken here, everything in the fried rice moksi is delicious and since then we become curious to know more about Surinamese food.

A unique restaurant! Outdoor terrace, inside a takeaway area with an indoor restaurant behind it. An extensive menu with many Surinamese and Chinese dishes. You can also request a different mix if your taste requires it. All this at a very competitive price. A cozy table with a can of drink, no nonsense. A (by the way, delicious) wine does come in a glass ;) The fast, super-friendly service makes you feel immediately welcome. When we went home after dinner, we were given a bag of prawn crackers to take home :) All in all, this is highly recommended and we will definitely eat there again!

Absolutely no taste, no spices, nothing, but really nothing, not even salt. Super bad, ordered €40, not a single bite had any taste, pickles straight from a can. The boss is nice though, but the food is rubbish, not for people with taste.

I've been getting food here for more than 20 years, but what I got yesterday was... not good... 2 telo cod, tasteless and cod for 3 pieces of telo. 2 shrimp sandwiches a few months ago had much more flavor and enough shrimp. Now, worthless and tasteless. Maybe new chef...

The potatoes with the Sate ku batata are old/dark brown... or double fried in old oil... unfortunately that's what it tastes like.

Ordered 3 different dishes for a total of 5 people on May 12. The chicken served with the roti was nasty and the sauce the chicken was in had no masala at all. It was a watery sauce that had no taste, supplemented with half-cooked hard potatoes. The brown beans tasted strange and appeared to be mixed with fat. The nasi with the moksi meti had a strange color and did not taste like nasi. The moksi meti was also nasty. I've had to throw away more than €100 worth of food because everyone thought the food was downright disgusting. So I'll never come here again.

This store used to be okay, but the roti really doesn't taste like anything anymore. Kind of knitting without flavor where they have thrown in a little potato, chicken and beans. Shame. And it's ready right away at this tent
