T-Rex Restaurant BBQ & Smokehouse in Wijk 00 Putten

There aren't that many real BBQ restaurants in the Netherlands, especially not those with a really good reputation. In my opinion, that makes what you get on the table here a bit disappointing. I like to taste everything, and the Having it all... + Colman's Salmon Platter for 2 people seems like the perfect menu for two. However, you only get 1 sausage, 1 slice of pork belly, 1 slice of brisket, and 1 chicken leg. That is really quite meager if you have to share it. We checked to see if this was correct, but that was indeed the intention. Sharing a chicken leg with 2 people is already quite complicated, for example. Additionally, spareribs with 6 bones, at least half of which were super thin and dry. Colman's Salmon that was also definitely overcooked. Pulled pork was fine. Let me start by saying that the flavors were fine. But for €70.00, a main course for 2 people with this quantity is, in my opinion, substandard. The execution of certain components could also have received much more attention. A starter and dessert were definitely necessary to go home feeling full. And no, we aren't even big eaters. Too bad, I seriously expected more from this...

Very friendly staff. The food was tasty, carpaccio and hot wings as starters. Two racks of sweet spareribs as the main course. Also ordered coleslaw and corn on the cob separately. It was all very delicious. In terms of interior design, it is not really a typical BBQ restaurant, but more of a modern office building.

My husband and I had made reservations weeks in advance. Yet, we were not given a decent place to dine. We could choose from two tiny tables. One was in the middle of the room, which was so busy and packed that everyone would bump into you if you sat there, so we chose the table by the window. Tucked away in a corner. The chair was positioned with its back against the heater, so I couldn't slide it back, making it difficult to sit down or stand up. Much too cramped. Then the food. We had ordered mayonnaise, which was forgotten. That can happen, but we had to wait a long time after asking for it. Meanwhile, the rest got cold. My husband's steak was fine, nothing to complain about, and my chicken satay was also tender, but at the end of one of the skewers, a piece seemed undercooked: it looked pink and shiny on the inside. I didn't eat that, nor the rest of that skewer. I did mention it, but according to the chef, it was cooked through but looked pink due to the marinade. I believe that, but not if it is damp and shiny!!! They never once came to ask if everything was to our liking, which surely is asked at least once in a restaurant. No five stars from us, and certainly not worth repeating.

Avoid the brisket!!! Very dry and a bit flavorless. Side dishes were also meh. The beans were okay. The coleslaw tho was like raw cabbage salad. Upsides : The sausage was amazing also the apple pie cocktail. Far from "American" BBQ style but alright.

The restaurant looks cozy, beautifully decorated with various awards they have won in the past. This raises expectations. The service is fine; the waiter is clear in his communication. I think the volume is a policy, as they all communicate at the same pitch. The food was fine, but unfortunately, we didn't experience any special taste sensations. The other half of the party has been there more often and indicated that the quality has really declined. Unfortunately, our table was plagued by flies. That was really annoying.

We even drive from Leeuwarden to Putten to eat at T_Rex. But remember that they are closed on Tuesdays. And if we are in the area, we go there anyway. Delicious chicken legs and pulled pork!

What an incredibly nice restaurant. Had a delicious meal. Very friendly staff. When I asked for an explanation about the food, I received one. You can also buy all the spices and sauces they use here at a good price. I am a sparerib lover, and that is highly recommended here. I have never had such delicious spareribs before. The wait time for your food is not long. The food is more than tasty. The staff is top-notch. And the chef is a real barbecue/grill master. Once again, compliments to this restaurant!

There were three of us, we hadn't made a reservation, and we were on time (5:30 PM) and still had plenty of choice for a table. We had a delicious meal: 2 BBQ Ribs and 1 Filthy Burger. Super friendly staff and a lovely ambiance. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you are ever in Putten!!

We have been here before, but this time it wasn't what we've come to expect from T-Rex. We had to wait a long time for our main course, and it turned out not to be complete either. We ordered a sharing platter 'Having It All... & Colman's Salmon' for which you pay 70 euros. This is for 2 people. If you only order 'Having It All', you get the same amount for 1 person. This costs 39.75. Conclusion: for a more luxurious presentation and a piece of salmon, you pay 30 euros more and only half a portion per person. We feel a bit ripped off.

Eaten here for the first time and highly recommended. And it's true, the food here was top-notch; it's been a long time since I've had a really good meal. Forget Loetje and go eat here for a really good meal.

Nice place and staff that at least knows how to get things done. The food was pretty okay, but stay away from those 'plate dishes for two'. I actually wanted to give the place three stars partly because they are so expensive, but they get a bonus star because the service saved us so well.

The restaurant's name had raised hopes for a promising experience, but the internal concept is somewhat misguided. We had to pay a plate fee of 10 euros even though the menu, where you can try everything, cost 39.5 euros. While this was enough for two people, the final price was not justified by the quality and the extra charge for the plate.

We ate there on Sunday, and I can only say that it was top-notch. The chef really knows what he's doing; the meat borders on perfection. The black and white (dame blanche) is also delicious.

We ate here last year. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you can smell the grilling meat. The steak was delicious and cooked to perfection, the portions were generous – the fries looked freshly made, but were they? After all, they do offer good quality convenience food. They have homemade sauces and a house liqueur, all available for takeout. The staff is also very friendly and attentive. We'd love to come back. Perhaps next year; unfortunately, it didn't work out this year with our Defqon visit.

They can serve glutenfree spareribs, which is why I came here. ♡♡♡ Also, the guy servers were super cheery and amicable. Finally, they have different types of seating (chairs, stools, couch, indoors, outdoors), so you can really pick your fancy.

Unfortunately, a very bad experience. The spareribs were dry and had an overly (chemical) smoky flavor. The coleslaw was warm, and the bowl of kidney beans tasted like it came from a can. Fries and mayonnaise had to be ordered separately for an extra charge. I did mention it, and the lady told me that tastes differ. Unfortunately, this is the last time for us.

Great concept! Unfortunately, it is too far away for me. This is my second time here and it didn't disappoint. I had the brisket. But I was hoping for more/better bark, because there was hardly any. Or it was just sliced ​​too thin.

Never eaten so badly…!!!! The set menu for two people costs over 70 euros plus extra fries: a small chicken leg, a wobbly piece of bacon, a tiny little piece of rib…. You're supposed to share that between two people…. It all tasted disgusting. The chicken leg was raw! According to the staff, that's how it's supposed to be… unfriendly service!!!! Simply a zero, ridiculously overpriced, this dump for NOTHING. I would have been better off giving the money away. I absolutely cannot recommend it. I still feel sick from the food, even though 80% of it went back anyway. So, go to a different restaurant where it's actually worth it.

Very disappointed. The food was anything but appealing, and we can't understand how someone can win top spots in BBQ competitions and then deliver such incredibly greasy food without any roasted flavor. A platter for four people with nothing pre-cut – just two brisket fillets and two slices of pancreas. Sorry, but it wasn't worth the money. And one small bowl of fries for four people.

It was enjoyable, but the food was disappointing, and I expected more. The BBQ combo had a lot of sauce on it, so you couldn't tell the difference between the spare ribs and the other meat. The dessert was delicious.

As fans of the Kamado and American (and Canadian) cuisine, my colleague and I are very curious about this restaurant. The vibe in the restaurant is excellent! The atmosphere and interior make you feel like you're in the States, well done! The service is quick, attentive, and friendly. We opted for the "Having it all" dish so we could try something. It arrived quickly. A nice, generous portion, and it looked fantastic! The taste was fine, but with varying degrees of success. The pulled pork was excellent, the BBQ chicken was reasonable, the brisket was good, the sausage was very tasty, the pork belly was meh, and the ribs were very good. The coleslaw was excellent, and the BBQ beans were heavenly! Overall, it was really good, but the pulled pork and the beans took the prizes. Overall, we both missed the smoky/BBQ flavor, which certainly wasn't the dominant flavor. It's a lovely place with an authentic atmosphere, and we had a pleasant evening. We'll definitely be back.

Top-notch restaurant, good slow-cooked BBQ food, which is actually slow-cooked and not boiled in water. The flavor is very rich, everything tastes fresh, and there's more than enough. We had Bapas, which is definitely value for money.

We ate here with a group of 12. It was a bit noisy for Grandma, but it quickly becomes that way for older people. The service was excellent. What lovely, friendly young staff! The food for twelve people arrived all at once, all three courses. The food was excellent; everyone enjoyed it. The dessert was more than excellent.

We were just passing through the area and booked a table for a Saturday night. We got a very quick reservation by phone and arrived just 10 minutes later! When we arrived, our table was ready, but we had to ask for another one because my wife is pregnant and we needed more space. The waiter found us a table elsewhere by talking to a lovely couple who agreed to accommodate us. We had a wonderful meal and loved everything! The chef gave us a masterclass in cooking; the meat and fish were perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection! The service was excellent, as the waiter took the time to explain the dishes and cooking methods to us. The setting was really cool with a great atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

Okay; in itself, a fine restaurant. The walls are covered with BBQ awards, so these guys really know what they're doing… Besides, they've been around for years and the reviews are good. But when you are an avid BBQer and/or smoker yourself, you aren't going to taste anything new or unique. Whether you cook for 4 people or for 200 people… that is (naturally) where the difference lies… it certainly wasn't bad; but it was a bit dry and bland… But as mentioned; they were fully booked and I understand that this requires a different discipline than when I make Brisket for the family myself. Atmosphere is good; service is good, food is good enough.

We had high expectations for the restaurant. I'm a kamado chef myself. The 321 spareribs were decent, but they lacked the BBQ flavor you get from charcoal cooking. In my opinion, they hadn't even seen the BBQ, and they certainly weren't smoked. The coleslaw served had been sitting out too long and had a rather unpleasant flavor. Moreover, it wasn't real coleslaw, but a raw vegetable salad with cabbage. The pork belly was a huge disappointment. It was fried pork belly. Pork belly should be cooked in one piece and smoked, after which you cut two or more thick slices for the guest. You should look at your own recipe cards to see how to prepare and serve it. For dessert, we ordered Rocky Road. It was made with pretzels. There were no nuts, biscuits, or marshmallows, which is how it should be. It was also rock hard because it was only chocolate and pretzels, and no liquid was used as an ingredient in the preparation. Last night we woke up with heart palpitations, heartburn, and drenched in sweat. What do they put in the food here? We won't be eating here again because we're so disappointed.

While on vacation in Putten, I stopped here for an evening, and my expectations were high. And they were met. A cozy restaurant with friendly staff and delicious food. We opted for the shared dining option. We had the combination of chicken and spare ribs, both very tender and tasty. It's served on a mini smoker, which looks very attractive and keeps the food nice and warm. We also had a delicious, clearly homemade coleslaw and a Mexican bean dish. Both very good. Unfortunately, you pay extra for fries here too. For dessert, I opted for an award-winning cheesecake, which I personally didn't like. But that's more a matter of taste than a lack of proper preparation. The price-quality ratio is good. In short...definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

We spent an hour and a half in the car to eat at this restaurant. Luckily, we had a reservation because the place was fully booked, even though they tried to make room for all the customers who showed up without a reservation. The food was fantastic; it was quite an experience in the BBQ world. I'll definitely go back. From the starter to the dessert, the food was delicious.

I had high expectations for this BBQ restaurant. It was disappointing. I ordered a plate for two people, and it was way too much sauce and too sweet. No BBQ flavor; I don't think they even touched the BBQ. The chicken was bad, the bacon was limp—in short, not what I expected. The staff was friendly and helpful.

It pretends to be an American BBQ restaurant, but it really isn't. When you walk in, all you see is BBQ plates, rubs/spices, and prices, giving the impression that they're actually doing BBQ. I feel misled by all this. I've tried many different types of meat here, and none of them tasted like BBQ. Of course, everything is sprinkled with smoky rubs and spices, but that's quite different from cooking on a BBQ. I saw that everything was pre-cooked and reheated on the grill, so it's definitely not fresh. The brisket was very dry because of this, but the coleslaw was tasty. The Moonshine is just a teenage cocktail and therefore far from what it should be. I also didn't like the atmosphere; the chairs are hard and it's very dark. The service was good, as was the parking. I wouldn't recommend going here; go to a grill room; I think you'd be better off there.
