Very nice concept, was very easy to do. It was just a shame that something ran out.

More than 50 different beers on tap that you can pour yourself. Also a good selection of different wines. Great location in Utrecht. Highly recommended.

They still have a lot to learn from their little brother in Eindhoven. The dishes did not match what was on the menu and were poorly prepared. We received tuna sashimi instead of tataki, and the salmon sashimi was certainly not fresh. The meat and salmon were overcooked and very tough/dry. The homemade brownie definitely did not taste homemade.

A huge variety of beers, self-tap. Not cheap, but tasty.

It was a really cool concept to be able to pour your own drinks, but you do pay per cl so you'll lose some to clear the tap for a smooth pour. Definitely a nice experience, but I'd love if they have more niche beer options. They also have a wine portion which I didn't try when I was there. Definitely a place to bring friends over to see them pour their own beer.

Would have loved to try the place. Hours said they opened at 1300. We had some confusion with other places in Utrecht as the hours posted on the door were different from the website. It was 1 pm, I saw someone who appeared to be setting up tables outside and asked her “are you open?” She was rude. Smoking her cigarette and said they would be open when she finished, and to give her 5 minutes, and continued to have her smoke and not doing anything much else. We found another place. Please change hours to: Will open after server finishes smoke break.

We reserved a three-course menu for a group well in advance. The shrimp in the starter were quite tasteless. On the evening itself, the brownies were sold out. It was also the only dessert they had. The alternative was two scoops of vanilla ice cream. Fortunately, we got those for free, as they properly deducted the cost of the actual dessert. When I made the reservation, the price for three courses was 34.50. Upon signing, it had suddenly become 39.50. Nothing had been communicated about this. The manager was supposed to call me about this to settle the difference, but I haven't heard anything since.

After visiting Taphuys Utrecht for the first time on Saturday, we unfortunately had a very unpleasant evening. After we had poured our first beer, one of us accidentally left the card in the machine. We are aware that this is our fault. However, immediately after noticing this—at most five minutes later—we walked to the bar to report it. The floor manager, who was informed of this, was unfortunately unwilling to cooperate in resolving the situation. To us, this simply feels like theft. The camera was pointed directly at the machine where we were pouring our beer, and we were also able to indicate the exact time this happened: approximately five minutes after entering. Despite this concrete information, nothing was done about it. Even after contacting them by email, we unfortunately received no response whatsoever. We are therefore completely dissatisfied with the way a large company like Taphuys handles theft within their establishment. We understand that we accidentally left the card behind ourselves, but when you report this almost immediately and provide all the information needed to investigate the situation, you expect at least some form of cooperation. So be well aware of how belongings are handled here before entering. Theft apparently doesn't matter.

If you play monkey music at hearing-damage volume during a beer festival, you either don't know your audience, or it isn't an audience consisting of real beer lovers. Despite the nice breweries that were represented and the pleasant weather, we walked on quickly.

Nice concept. We used to come here regularly. Until one evening I was tapping a beer and a piece of dried snot came out of the keg. Since then, just thinking about it makes me almost gag. It's a shame people can't behave themselves.

Nice place with a wide selection of craft beers. The integration with Untappd is a real plus: you can see exactly what's on tap and check in your beers immediately. Cozy atmosphere, definitely recommended!

Last Saturday, we visited Taphuys Utrecht. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. We had to wait a very long time for our food, and when it was finally served, it was cold. After we finished, it took over 1.5 hours before our table was cleared and the plates were collected. When we asked if we could still order dessert, the response we received was: "Yes, I think that is possible." After that, no one came back to our table. In the end, we didn't order dessert. That is a real shame, because we actually really liked the concept of tapping our own wine and beer. Unfortunately, that was completely overshadowed by the poor service and the quality of the food. For us, this was not a pleasant experience.

Sat out for the afternoon with a friend, tasted a lot of beers, with a bowl of brown fruit on the side. Friendly staff. Great place to catch up and drink beer.

We visited 't Taphuys Utrecht today and unfortunately had a very negative experience. We had made a reservation from 18:00, but nowhere was it stated that there was an end time attached to this. To our surprise, around 20:30, a waiter came to inform us that we had to leave because our time was up. Meanwhile, a sign was placed on the table stating that the table had been re-reserved from 21:00. This gave us the strong feeling that there was a double reservation and that we had become the victims of it. What made it even more annoying: one person in our party had jokingly wiped the number “2” for 21:00 off the sign. This was later brought up by the staff, who indicated that they had seen it on camera. We consider this a serious invasion of privacy, as it is nowhere clearly indicated that you are being filmed, let alone that footage is being used in this manner for these kinds of situations. Additionally, the manager himself did not respond and completely deflected the conversation onto the staff. This does not come across as professional and feels like responsibility is being shirked. All in all, a disappointing experience where communication, hospitality, and professionalism clearly fell short. We will not be returning here anytime soon. Response to comment: Good morning, Thank you for your response, but we do not agree with this. The confirmation and reminder email only state a start time (18:00) and no end time. I have added a screenshot of this to my review. The claim that this was “clearly stated” according to you is therefore incorrect in our case. Additionally, a sign stating that the table was reserved for 21:00 was only placed on the table during our visit. This gives us the strong feeling that there was simply a double reservation and that we were the victims of it. We also find the story about “reacting unreasonably” and “ruining the next reservation” quite exaggerated. It was just a simple joke with that sign. We find it disproportionate that you review camera footage for this purpose and subsequently use it against us, and we perceive this as a violation of our privacy. Especially since it is nowhere clearly indicated that filming is taking place. Furthermore, it is a shame that the manager did not have a conversation with the staff himself and leave it to the staff. All in all, simply poorly resolved and not how you treat guests.

Have been to t'Taphuys on 2 occasions now. They have a large selection of wines and beers on tap. You can order some of these off the menu but the larger selection is available on an automated tap. You simply load your card with money and select your pour volume. I quite enjoyed the South African wines as well as some of the lighter beers. Some nice snacks available as well. I would suggest booking a table as it does get full.

Had some good food and drinks, nice staff, and a nice atmosphere! The only minor point I would mention is that it is incredibly noisy, so sometimes you can barely hear each other... Additionally, something really needs to be done about the dessert selection; it was very meager! It is definitely recommended to eat here or just for a drink, so I will certainly be going here more often! —————————————————————————— The review above is from 2 years ago, But I am going to update the review to 4 stars after visiting again yesterday! The leftmost photo is from 2 years ago and the other 2 are from this year. There is no longer a scan QR code on the tables, so sometimes you have to wait quite a while to be served! You could previously see everything online with photos and a list of ingredients. Now there is a menu without photos or explanation. In terms of dinner, there is a lot less now! If you're going for lunch or drinks, that's fine! I was shocked by the bill, though, for what you got!

Great place, you can tap your own beer (and wine) with your own card. There are plenty of beers to choose from, and you pay by the bottle. If you want to try lots of beers or just enjoy a drink with your friends, this is a great place!!! Very friendly staff too. It's become one of my favorite spots!

The beer they have here is very good, you should definitely come for that. However, we unfortunately encountered a truly rude waitress. She thought it was normal to scold her customers with things like "Did you finally finish your beer?" and "Are you even going to keep drinking?" We'll figure that out for ourselves, damn it! A real disgrace, definitely not a hostess! Luckily, her colleagues were friendly. Of course, no tip, and we'll continue our evening elsewhere. I'd love to come back, but if I see that same waitress again, I'll find another bar.

Another stupid concept that completely misses the point, because "just grabbing a beer" is simply not an option here. I didn't feel like dealing with the hassle of charging a card, etc., so I opted to simply order from a server (very old-fashioned). Like the people next to me, I then had to wait 15 minutes before I could place my order. Fifteen minutes later, I was done with it and almost wanted to leave, but my glass of beer finally arrived. Unfriendly, impersonal, so definitely not recommended if you're a beer lover. Once, but never again.

Good food and good beer, but a bit pricey

Unfortunately, I didn't have a pleasant experience at Taphuys. Today, I was helped by manager Fabian, who showed absolutely no empathy for the guests. He was also too reluctant to admit his own mistakes – a truly disgraceful behavior. The waitress who helped us (who was actually very polite and kind) didn't understand either and could only say, "It's my manager's decision." Luckily, I was able to give him a tip, but otherwise... bizarre.

My first 3-star review :( In terms of beers and drinks, you won’t be disappointed (except maybe if you look at the price hehe). But otherwise, super fun concept and a fun place to go for beer tasting with friends. Unfortunately, this is one of the worst food experiences I’ve had. We ordered 4 types of dishes: • Carpaccio 5/5 ⭐️ • Spicy Yakitori 1/5 ⭐️ • The duck dish 0/5 ⭐️ • The fish dish 2/5 ⭐️ Spicy Yakitori felt like it was boiled than grilled. The Duck dish had a weird taste and smell, I kinda felt sick unfortunately. The fish was cooked perfectly except it was so bland.. The main saving was the Carpaccio but wished we had ordered after all those other dishes. We actually told one of the female staffs about the food experience since she asked us if it was nice. We said no but she was just silent. Hope the food can improve so the bar experience can be the best.

Beer, beer, beer, wine, beer. You buy a chargeable card from the waiter, you place the card in the individual slot for each beer, you serve yourself, the total on the card is subtracted onscreen and you enjoy. It could be very easy to overdo the pouring so start slowly. Food is orderable from your waiter. We visited midweek so it wasn’t that busy. The choice ranges from megacorp splosh to far more interesting local brews - there are literally dozens to choose from, all styles, all strengths. The food was very good without being fancy. I cannot imagine this concept working in Britain unless under armed guard🤣. But in chilled Utrecht (and a few other Dutch cities), it’s perfect. Make an early night of it.

A fun concept. You can decide how much beer/wine you want. It's a place to go for a drink with (young) friends. The place is a bit noisy, and the staff is busy. The person who initially helped us was friendly and gave the impression of being a master of her craft. Unfortunately, she had to apologize several times to her colleagues. When serving, one of us forgot the cutlery, and then you have to search for someone to help you. The beer/wine selection is extensive, but I got the impression that quantity was prioritized over quality. The pork belly menu offered a set of 5, but we were served 3. The answer was that the quantity didn't matter; the weight was the same. The taste was good. The salmon main course was only overcooked, raw on the inside, the salad was missing, and the flavor was unremarkable. The chicken teriyaki turned out to be flavorless chicken nuggets on a skewer. The fennel salad was more of a garnish. The salmon went back to the kitchen and the same one was put back on the table after it was cooked through.

It's so much fun to pour your own beer that you like. So for me, a tasty triple.

We had a wonderful meal at Taphuys's SPIJS pop-up! The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was cozy (especially for young people), and you can stay late for a drink to get in the mood for a fun evening. The scallops were delicious, as was the duck.

't Taphuys offers a huge selection of different beers, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We were able to order a platter of (vegetarian) snacks just in time, which was great, considering it was almost 1:00 AM. The staff is also very flexible and helpful. Moreover, the cafe's interior is beautiful.

Taphuys, great concept ✅, HOSPITALITY IS UNKNOWN HERE ❌ On Friday, October 31st, we had a reservation for dinner and drinks for four people from 7:30 PM to midnight. (As discussed in email and by phone.) Our reception was already difficult, and there were problems with our table, so they quickly freed it up. We were treated rudely after 18 minutes when we asked where the tea for one of our guests was. (It happens, we're all human, but just react normally.) At 10:00 PM, we were told we had to leave immediately because the table reservation had arrived. I explained that our reservation ended at midnight, as stated in the confirmation email, and asked for the manager. Ultimately, I spoke to three different employees, but didn't speak to the manager (who, according to someone, was smoking). Each employee gave a different story and tried to blame us for the mistake. The table we were at wasn't right (the staff placed it there), we had to leave two hours early because it was too busy, the confirmation email wasn't conclusive, etc. Apparently, it's normal here if you make a dinner reservation from 7:30 PM to midnight, and then after a few drinks and snacks, you're sent away at 10:00 PM due to mistakes on their part. Just honestly acknowledge your mistake and offer a solution. Final conclusion: Didn't speak to the manager, didn't offer a solution, and ultimately we were forced to leave to end the evening at another café. They don't know the meaning of "hospitality" and "reservation."

Last Friday, a group of us came for a nice drink. We had made a reservation and arrived on time, but unfortunately, everything went wrong from the start. We waited at least eight minutes before being helped at all. When we were finally shown to our table, it turned out to be occupied. The waitress didn't really know what to do and left us standing around without explanation. Eventually, we were given another table, but even after that, things went smoothly. No explanation was given about the QR code ordering system, so we had to figure it out ourselves. Then, the wrong appetizers arrived that weren't even meant for us—it happens, but it all felt very sloppy. Most of our group had a drinks card that allowed you to pour yourself a drink, but I ordered a tea and waited 18 minutes for it. The food even arrived before my tea. When I politely asked if my order had been forgotten, I was met with a rather curt response. After more than two hours of pleasant company, we were suddenly told we had to leave because the table was "needed for other guests." Even though we had a reservation until midnight. When we pointed this out, they mainly argued instead of trying to find a solution. The concept of the restaurant is nice, but the execution and especially the service were downright terrible. It's a shame, because this could have been a really nice evening.

I had a lovely drinks reception with colleagues at 't Taphuys. Despite the limited staff and large number of guests, Steffie ensured everything ran smoothly. Of course, she wasn't alone in this, but she's a special asset to me. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and kept a cool head. She quickly navigated the crowds of people arriving, the Australian tourists who demanded her attention, and my questions. Thanks to her, our drinks reception was an extra success.

A really fun concept, maybe a bit more expensive, but you really do have a ton of different options. And you get any money left on your card back. We were there on Thursday evening, August 28th, and it wasn't too busy at all.

A great place to go for a few beers with friends. Recommended to go in a group, or in a group of three.

This is not a place for a group. Very poor service. Very rude staff. I emailed the restaurant 2 weeks in advance. I told that we are 10 people and asked whether a-la-carte would be an option because their group menu was not good enough and simply because we wanted to try aubergine dishes. I got the reply that it is absolutely possible. But once we placed the orders via their qr codes, the staff cancelled all the orders citing they do not have enough food for us of our choice. We were then given a different (printed paper) menu which had mostly bar food like chicken bites, croquettes, supermarket gyoza, burger and more fried stuff. The staff was extremely unacomodating. It was embarrassing to say the least. Next to that they made us wait for more than 1.5 hours for the food. For fried food! There was no apology, no courtesy. Utter disgrace. I will spread the word so no other team has to face this.

Taphuys is a must-visit for beer lovers They have one of the best varieties of beer I’ve come across, with something for every taste. The ambiance is vibrant and welcoming, making it a great place to hang out with friends. The food was just as impressive, perfectly complementing the drinks. Overall, a fun and satisfying experience. Can’t wait to go back.

Fantastic selection of beers and wine. The food is really good. Had the camembert bread and the smashed burger. Both really good.. but the desserts were small for the cost. Not good value for money - a small letdown

The service was nice, but they didn't explain how the self-tapping system worked. Personally, I don't like ordering via the app at all. The burger was tasty, but quite small for the price (€18.50). The beer taps unfortunately had alternating displays with advertisements in between, which made it less than pleasant. A review on Untappd felt the system was too complicated for me. One beer had no carbonation at all on tap, and that cost €6 for about 280ml. Overall, it might be a great thing with well-earning friends, but my €20 beer card was already empty after about 0.9l, and I was still hungry.

I went to this taphouse one evening with some friends. The experience was great, the atmosphere and the fact that you can tap your own beer is great. The only downside is the beers they have on tap. These are not the most special beers, or highest rated beers, but certainly something you have not had yet. I would definitely recommend it and plan to visit note branches, really recommended

Interesting and nice concept to try out to find and tap your own beers: which unfortunately will create too much foam in your glass. Price is quite high in this way: for 4 regular sized craft beers created, the total cost was 35 eur, while in a regular concept beer bar this would cost approximately 25 eur. Ambiance was very nice. Hard to find the personell sometimes. Kitchen was closed.

This place offers a relatively large variety of wine and beers. The concept is that you get a card that you charge with money and then you can go and serve whatever beer you like after scanning the card. The food is acceptable too. Feels like a place to get quite drunk quite fast and lose money rapidly but all in a happy way

Definitely a fun concept with the self-tap, but the atmosphere is strongly reminiscent of a bachelor party location — you have to like that. For a freshly tapped specialty beer it is quite nice, although it feels a bit commercial. For real lovers of specialty beer there are better and more authentic alternatives in Utrecht.

Find an alternative if you want a cozy evening. A large selection is nice for the beer lover, but this concept is impersonal and unsociable. The only added value of the staff is adding extra credits to your tap card.

Nice craft beer place with some outside seating, perfect for people watching!

I made a reservation four hours in advance, but my reservation was not in the system, even though I did receive a confirmation in my email. Luckily we were on time and there was still room. It's a nice concept to tap your own beer, but also very pricey. The kitchen did an excellent job and provided us with various hot snacks.

U ordered smash burger and the meat quality was disappointing, super greasy l, and the fries were bad and greasy as well. Definitely avoid if you want to get good food...

A tall blond boy from the staff did nothing at all, was just smoking on the terrace… Not professional. By the way, the other staff (boy and girl) were working very hard, was very busy.

Lots of tasty wines for a fair price. Cozy atmosphere and excellent snacks to go with it. We enjoyed it! The only downside was that after 2.5 hours the table was reserved again and we had to leave.

The service was very bad. The table was not cleaned even when the dishes were served, and we were requested to leave right after finishing our main course—which we had to wait an hour for—because they had other guests waiting. The food was okay, except that after such a long wait, everything on our plates was cold. We mentioned this to the manager, who told us to send an email. We did, and their response was that we should have complained to the kitchen 🙈. The concept is nice, but you pay a lot for a small glass of wine and receive very bad service, including cold food.

Staff looks and walks right through you; at Zara they are even friendlier. In addition, our food was late because she "had not entered it correctly", then had to wait another 45 minutes for limp fries and a cold burger.

Nice concept that a specialty beer lover will certainly enjoy. A bit on the busy side, so reservations are recommended. Almost everything can be ordered yourself using the QR code. Please note that only the tap card can be used via the tap wall and not for normal orders at the bar.

Super cool place to drink specialty beers. We've been here twice, always enjoyable. Sometimes one of the taps does not work, but if you indicate this, you will receive a full glass from the waiter as compensation. Very good wines also by the glass.

This is a cool concept where you can self serve from a wide variety of beers. You can also watch your card balance descend as you pour the beer, and it does descend quickly in this place - maybe a little too quickly.

Strange, I have a Taphuys card that works in the other branches, but in Utrecht people apparently have a different idea about this. We were a group of 10, of which 6 people had their own maps of Tilburg and Arnhem, among others, but these did not work in Utrecht. It's a shame that 1 of 4 businesses thinks differently about their system and customers. Won't be coming back here again.

Well this was a different kind of bar. Taps for wine and beer - you search your own. However I prefer to sit down and get service so I had a Negroni

nice concept and good way to do a beer tasting yourself

As the only duck out of the pond of 4 Taphuys businesses in the Netherlands, Taphuys Utrecht does not accept the Taphuys card, which does work in the other 3 businesses. The excuse? Yes, we have a newer system and cannot link it, so we have our own card. Just bad... how can you be the only one with a completely different system? It is and was always the intention that customers could use their card in any tap house... so we left. Not going to buy a new card, top up with balance only for Utrecht... I have more than 75 euros on the card, which is valid everywhere.

What an incredibly nice concept. I've lived in Utrecht all my life, but I only found out about this place through friends today. There is a nice atmosphere, taps for wine and beer and your Friday evening can't go wrong.

First place I've seen here where you can literally tap your own wine and beer, from a large selection. For beer you pay per centiliter (0.01 l), so you can do a tasting first if you are unsure. Wine comes in three pre-select sizes. It's a bit pricey, but then you can also have a glass of a wine you normally only get per bottle, or a special beer that's normally not on tap. They have surprisingly good pub food and very friendly and helpful staff. We visited at an unusually quiet time which was perfect to learn how the place works (usually it's cram-packed, especially in the evening). Definitely a good place to go with a group with diverse tastes, and during the quieter time also very suitable for families with children.

Nice to try because of the fairly unique concept of being able to tap a fairly large amount of (occasionally changing) beers. So you can taste many beers in small quantities. I've been here about 4 times in recent years, but given the high price (the tap menu runs out very quickly) and the not too interesting food offering, this will never become a regular place for me.

I didn't eat there. Drunk alone. The food seems to be good. But the ambiance is a disaster. There is noisy music on. The acoustics are so bad that you can barely hear each other. There are students screaming in the corner and you pay twice the main price for beer that you have to/are allowed to tap yourself. I get the same beer served at my table further down town for half the price. As far as I'm concerned, this store is completely overrated.
