Came here on a Saturday and wasn’t very busy which was nice for us. It’s a very open, calm, and clean atmosphere. We had a couple different frappes and matcha lattes that were all great! We also got some soba and tempura dishes that were so delicious! Better than I expected. The girls working are also so sweet. Lovely experience

We sat down and tried to order and were told they were busy and there was no follow up.

When approaching a service person, I asked if they’re stocking up or still taking orders, as I saw a “Closed for orders” paper on top of the menu selection card. In response to my question I was met with “I’m busy right now”. I understand they were cleaning, but a simple “yes”, “no”, or “ask us again in a bit” would’ve been enough. I sat down to do some work on the laptop. I was never approached by this person again, despite her walking past me numerous times. Other customers were ordering 5 minutes later.

Matcha frappe tastes intense in matcha flavor but the portion is small.

Yes, expensive but if you truly know and appreciate a real matcha, not the syrup and sugary mixed ones- this one is for you. Even without sugar a true strong masterpiece. How unfortunate, that they don’t sell the powder itself anymore. The terrine (ice cream) is sweet.

This time I only had one cup of matcha at the matcha shop 🍵, it was very pure and delicious 👌🏻 It seems they also have a food section, I'll try that next time.

The matcha tart was frozen, and the matcha with coconut milk did not taste like coconut and was very watery.

Best matcha products in town and friendly staff. The place is also not too crowded. I find that a lot matcha places give you a very weak matcha, not here! They use high quality product and authentic flavours. If you like a lot of sugar then you might like other places more.

Loved their matcha kakigori, it was a smaller portion than I expected but still very delicious. We also ordered their matcha drink with red bean and hojicha latte, which I had a personal preference for more depth in flavor. If you prefer something a bit sweeter the matcha with red bean is a good combination.

The hojicha frappé was a bit sweeter than I expected. It would’ve been better if they made it less sweet. The kakigōri was also so hard that I couldn’t break it apart. When I mentioned this to the server, she said it’s supposed to be very hard because of the metal bowl it’s served in. Either way, everyone knows that kakigōri isn’t meant to be served as solid ice. I think she may have compressed the ice too much and removed all the air from it. Wouldn’t order this again.

A great place to chill and has great food. Best matcha I’ve had in Amsterdam. I had the red bean matcha and the traditional, very authentic and delicious.

I ordered the tempura soba. The tempura was very delicious, with a light and crispy batter that I really enjoyed. However, the menu photo indicated that the soba would be green matcha soba, but what was served was regular soba, which was a bit disappointing. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice, with tatami-style seating that created a comfortable and authentic feel. The waiting time for the food felt slightly long, but the overall taste was satisfying.

Service was painfully slow, and my friend and I ordered the exact same thing strawberry iced matcha. Somehow, they came out completely different. Mine had basically no strawberry, and my friend’s tasted extremely bitter (impressive, considering it was the same drink). We decided to be nice and not even ask for a refund and just went back to politely ask for a bit more strawberry and some milk to fix it. Apparently, that was too much to ask. They refused to add more strawberry (luxury ingredient, I guess?), and only added more milk which turned the drink into what can only be described as lightly flavored milk. Staff was rude on top of everything. Next time we’ll skip doing them favors and just ask for the refund. Avoid this place.

The matcha itself was ok, similar to matcha served in other cafes. However, I find that Taigu cafe interior was a bit too hectic and overcrowded with minimal ventilation, so not the best place if you are looking to catch up with a friend...

BEST MATCHA IN NL PERIOD. If you hate those €6 watery matcha this is ur place. My go to: ice matcha latte (intense) + red bean & the hojicha is also so good!!!🍵

The matcha was excellent quality and tasted truly authentic, without the grassy aftertaste you sometimes find in certain places. I really appreciated how customisable everything is: you can add dango, red beans (adzuki), strawberry purée or even different kinds of ice cream in your drink depending on your taste. The level of sweetness is also adjustable, which makes it easy for everyone to enjoy the matcha exactly the way they like it. They also offer a variety of matcha desserts—I tried the cream puff filled with matcha ice cream and it was very tasty without being overly sweet. A great place for matcha lovers.

One of the best matcha place in Ams! Love their matcha because the concentration is very high, making matcha very deep in flavour! The desserts were good too and have really strong matcha flavour. Super recommend!

Skip: Waygu burger rice, matcha bingsu (too much and strong matcha bitter taste). Matcha latte don’t order very strong taste with normal sweetness. Order normal matcha taste, but also just ok. Good: Soba was not bad, shrimp tempura was good. The matcha tart was decent but too small. The tarte was also not bad. I’d go with the tart though. Matcha normal sweetness and normal matcha was a bit too sweet and heavy

The cafe offers many matcha items but the overall experience is disappointing. Staff responses to questions about the menu feel annoyed rather than helpful. The €13 latte including topping is served in a very small cup, more like a sample than a proper drink.

I come here to regularly drink matcha. The quality of the matcha latte never disappoints. I've lived in Japan and this is the only place in Amsterdam in which the matcha latte is on the same level as how they make them Japan (and worth your money). It's also a nice place to rest, read a book or have a chat with friends. If you love matcha then I definitely recommend coming here :)

The matcha is good but the staff is awful. They let people who are alone occupying tables for 4 and there are no room left for groups. They don’t bother to even look at customers entering the cafe or to offer us seating. We have been here a few times and every single time it’s bad service. We will not come back.

Taigu is an amazing spot if you’re into real matcha rather than overly sweet drinks. The matcha tastes strong, and you can tell they care about quality and not hype. The café itself is clean, and calm, making it a nice place to sit for a bit rather than just takeaway. Service is friendly and relaxed, and the matcha nama pairs so well with the drinks! Overall it’s a good choice for a if you like the matcha-focused cafés.

matcha is nice, service is nice, but the atmosphere is just NOT IT. Way too small and loud and there’s no one regulating the noise. NOT recommended for going alone here!

We ordered matcha and coffee. The coffee was very watery and weak. After we pointed this out, we received a new coffee, but it was exactly the same. The matcha was possibly the worst matcha we've ever had. Such a shame, we left everything as is. It just felt like a waste of money.

Amazing matcha. The quality of the matcha they use shows in the color and flavor. Really good umami. They're not at all kidding when they say their strong is 3-5 times typical cafe strength and that their intense strong is 5-9 times typical cafe strength. The intense strong latte tastes like a large ceremonial grade tea with just a little milk added. I highly recommend this place.

On a wednesday afternoon it was quiet. There’s a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, which allowed me to fully enjoy my matcha latte with dango and the matcha tart. The tart was recommended by the friendly staff member and it was perfect. The matcha is of top quality. I’ll definitely be back to try more from the menu

A while ago I left a review which wasn’t all that good. But I have been coming back to Taigu and find it necessary to make adjustments to my previous review which you can still find below. First of all I did sincerely appreciate the comment of Taigu on my initial review. Secondly Taigu has beautiful products. The Genmaicha and Hoijicha lattes are delicious. I tried making this at home, with social media instruction videos but what I was able to make doesn’t come close to what Taigu serves. I am happy to succumb to their ways of doing things and if I ask to get the lattes steaming hot which isn’t beneficial for the taste, they are happy to heat them. So thank you Taigu and thank you for serving beautiful products 🙏 I was pretty disappointed. Two weeks ago I enjoyed a matcha Frappuccino with a scoop of genmaicha ice cream here. The consistency of the ice cream was a bit weird. Maybe it had been melted and refrozen? The quantity of the Frappuccino was rather small. But the place is charming and it was nice to sit here. So we went back yesterday. I asked for a genmaicha Frappuccino with a scoop of matcha ice cream. This was not possible. Frappuccinos can’t be ordered with a topping of ice cream, unlike two weeks ago. I asked if I could order the Frappuccino and the topping separately. It was not possible. I ended up ordering an Iced genmaicha latte. Since I could not order it with a scoop of matcha ice cream - only matcha with matcha and genmaicha with genmaicha also unlike the previous time I was here - I got the iced genmaicha latte with Genmaicha ice cream. The ice cream again had the weird consistency. So I guess it’s meant to be this way. The latte was not very cold, the ice cubed looked poorly, the quantity was small and the taste average (very mild). Because of all the confusion I had forgotten to ask for plant based milk, being vegan since 10 years. The genmaicha ice cream however was served separately (!). Why not serve a Frappuccino then? I re-ordered the same drink with plant based milk. The guy behind the counter got my order. He thought it was sad a genmaicha latte wasn’t going to be consumed and gave me a discount on my re-order. That was very nice. The discount however was €0,50 cents. Afterwards I thought I could have ordered a Frappuccino now since I already had a scoop of ice cream. I didn’t think of it. I sucked away my plantbased iced genmaicha latte, not impressed by the taste nor the quantity nor the temperature. Japanese culinary endeavors never fall short surprising me in beautiful ways. Maybe because of all the beautiful experiences I’ve had if it comes to anything Japanese, the experience here, because of my expectations, is a disappointment. I ended up paying €12 something for a small drink I didn’t really fancied. I don’t think I’ll be back here After reading your reply I understand much better why I was confronted with several unexpected ‘no’s’. Thank you for taking the effort to explain where the no’s come from. I reckon if either the menu or the staff could give some insight into the policies, the experience could be different. Currently on the menu it doesn’t say specific toppings go with specific drinks. To the contrary, the toppings are listed in a way that suggests they go with all the mentioned drinks. The ice cubes policy sounds really sympathetic but also here managing expectations could make a big difference. Once again, I like your place and I wish you well. Genmaicha tea is beautiful and to create a Genmaicha latte is an interesting idea. Thank you for exploring this. Last but not least, thank you for pointing out that the ice creams are not vegan.

Disappointing, with 6,8 EUR for one drink, you would expect some decent good quality vibrantly green matcha, but the drink was underwhelming in its quality. Addition after seeing the response: I didn’t order any toppings, it was an iced matcha.

The matcha was super watery, the cup is super small and full of ice, all for almost 7€ ??? On top of that you feel like you literally disturb the waiters by asking for a drink… This is just not it.

I simply had to write this review. The Matcha/genmaicha/hojicha latte here is definitely the BEST in Amsterdam, and dare I say in Europe? I travel a lot and Taigu has had the best Japanese lattes, teas and lunch boxes! The best, the best and again the best!

A REALL MATCHA! It’s very similar with the ceremonial grade matcha i used to have back home 🍵♥️ less sweet + the read bean fits perfectly it gives you perfect sweetness! And the place is quite big as well very comfy to stay!

Matcha latte was good but the staff brought us the wrong order. My friend is lactose intolerant and order oat milk as alternatives but they mistook with my order instead.

If you’re looking for a high quality matcha this is a great choice! I got the strawberry matcha and the purée felt really high quality, I was also asked if I’d like to add sweetness which I thought was a nice option!! Lovely service!! The cafe itself has very white, gentle and minimalist vibes if that’s your vibe, I’d say it could be a good spot to study, work or read a book.

The matcha and Hojicha drinks are made with very good quality tea powders and strong enough. Also the pure matcha (without milk) is a very good one with a slight sweetness to it. I also like that their matcha is organic. I would like to know if their milk options are also organic. I also recommend the tempura, especially the shiso and pumpkin. Very well made. would be even better if they also offered gluten-free batter. Their matcha mochi is good, but I can’t taste any of the matcha (used in the dough, not the filling) and is not worth €5,95. I hope they will have more vegan and/or lactose-free matcha desserts in the future, most of them are very heavy with cream. No WiFi available.

Great matcha and desserts. I always go for pure hot matcha which is amazing but can be too strong for those not used to it. Really like the rice dessert with fig (daifuku) and the strawberry one as well, the chef brought it personally to the table from the kitchen. The dessert was freshly made and warm. I overall liked the place, the ambiance is warm, and the staff were friendly. It’s definitely a nice spot to spend time. That said, I did find one downside: we ordered a drink that turned out to be far too sweet for our taste. At €7, I expected a little more flexibility or at least an option to adjust it, but when we mentioned it, the response was simply that it’s their standard recipe...

I came here with high expectations as a matcha lover, but unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. The matcha drinks were poorly prepared and lacked the care you would expect from a specialty café. Nice Matcha place. They also serve japanese food. We were big group so we sat outside. Easy to order with QR code but somehow one of the order didn't come, had to went inside to ask. I had one matcha and my friend had a coffee here. The matcha was something that amazed me, it had a lot of body to it and was super refreshing. When having the opportunity between choosing a cold brew and a matcha, go for the matcha! The service was solid if unspectacular and was efficient. The atmosphere was quiet but peaceful. It's worth going here for a quick drink to relax and just put the stresses of your life on the back burner for a while!

The lunch deal set is really good and affordable. For around €14 you get delicious cold soba noodles and fried ebi and vegetables. The matcha drinks and desserts are good, but they lack some strong flavours. Would recommend the Hojicha instead. The atmosphere is chill, you can choose to sit outside or inside. The service is very friendly.

We stopped by this Japanese-style café and loved it. The matcha roll cake was soft, fluffy, and not too sweet. The cappuccino was smooth and just right. But the real star was the iced matcha latte – I had it with oat milk, less sweet, extra rich matcha, with shiratama dango. Honestly, it was one of the best matcha drinks I’ve ever tried – deep and full of flavor🍵 Such a cozy spot if you’re into authentic Japanese treats!

Been there multiple times and always encounter friendly staff and have one of the best, if not the best, matcha in Amsterdam. And today too, the lady who was working in the evening was amazing and matcha latte, matcha frappe, hojicha and matcha tarts were delicious!

We had a disappointing experience here. Even before placing our order, the staff member showed visible impatience just because we changed a detail on a few drinks. When we received our takeaway cups, the plastic foil sealing was excessively tight and the cups were filled to the brim. It was nearly impossible to insert the straws without spilling. On the fourth cup, the drink literally exploded—matcha went everywhere: our clothes, shoes, faces, and the store counter. The two staff members saw this happen but did absolutely nothing to help. They didn’t offer tissues, didn’t apologize, and just stood there watching. When asked about the foil, one casually replied she didn’t know we were going to poke it. Instead of assisting, they pointed us to a corner for napkins while chatting among themselves. After complaining for the third time about the foil they said one ‘sorry’. This level of service is unprofessional and shows zero customer care. If you’re considering takeaway from here, be extremely cautious—or better yet, take your business elsewhere.

This place is amazing for anything, the drinks (matcha and cappuccino) are amazing and taste strong. The desserts are also super good. Recommend!

Nice and quiet decorated shop (pop up feeling) matcha and coffee were very good. It would be nice if the menu had pictures, in case you don't know what the Japanese names are.

I can see a _guest WiFi network but when I asked the waitress said they don’t offer WiFi to customer. It’s only a Korean/Japanese cute cafe on the surface :) Edit: I considered deleting my review because after all they’re just doing their thing and admittedly I was not in a very good mood that day. But seeing how they respond to every negative review, not taking any feedback and not considering a customers opinion at all and basically telling people “if you don’t like it don’t come”, I think this 1 star is well deserved :)

I always enjoy coming here for matcha desserts and drinks! I especially love the matcha nama chocolate and tart! However this place is really expensive, it’s worth it as a sweet treat from now and then but O can’t come here regularly due to the pricing. Matcha is high quality though!

Good afternoon, This was my first visit to Taigu and I wanted to take a moment to share some feedback that I hope is received in a constructive spirit. While the space itself is lovely and the concept looked promising, there were a few things that impacted our overall experience: Upon entering, we weren't greeted or acknowledged in any way, which made the atmosphere feel a bit unwelcoming from the start. After spending time carefully reading the drinks menu and deciding what to order, we were told that the drinks we had chosen weren’t available. It might have helped if we’d been informed of this earlier, as the staff saw we were reviewing the menu. I ordered an iced matcha, but it only had a single ice cube, so unfortunately it wasn’t cold at all. It also felt quite warm inside—perhaps the air conditioning wasn’t functioning? It made staying for long uncomfortable. Lastly, when we asked for the Wi-Fi code, we were told no one knew it. While this isn’t a major issue on its own, it added to a series of small frustrations that left us a bit disappointed. I truly believe that details like these make a big difference, especially in a place that has great potential. I hope this helps and look forward to giving Taigu another try in the future 🙌🏼

We had high expectations for this place. The tempura vegetables were very tasty! The matcha frappe was unfortunately very disappointing. They forgot to make the drinks. After waiting for half an hour and saying this ourselves, we got them without straws and chunks of ice. I know the matcha is good here, but I will not come back for the frappe. It is not blended well.

Strongly advice against visiting this cafe if you respect your possesions. Owner is very rude and not accustomed to the netherlands or insured and will pretend to call the police to not have to reimburse the damage the shop is accountable for.

If you are looking for a good place with good gentle vibes, give this place a try! The Matcha is just 10/10. The matcha terrine is so tasty, we decided to make some at home too (not as tasty as Taigu’s but it will do hahaha) Servers let you just do your thing without disturbing much, which was perfect. Glad we took the detour in our trip to Amsterdam to visit this spot 💕
