Picked up food yesterday, super friendly employee at the checkout. The food was delicious and full of flavor. I will definitely pick up something tasty again soon.

This used to be, without a doubt, my favourite Thai restaurant in the area. I was genuinely obsessed with it and recommended it to everyone. After spending some time away, I was really looking forward to ordering from here again. Unfortunately, it was incredibly disappointing. I ordered the beef Massaman curry, which used to be amazing, and what arrived was completely different from what I remembered — very watery, almost like a soup, with a huge amount of barely cooked onion. The rich, comforting Massaman I used to love was simply not there. It honestly feels like something has changed, perhaps the management or the kitchen, because the quality and flavour are nowhere near what they used to be. It makes me genuinely sad to leave this review because I loved this place for a long time, but unfortunately, based on my latest experience, it is just not the same restaurant anymore.

The service is great but this sadly is not an authenthic pad thai - it just tasted like an overload of sweet chilli sauce.

One of the best restaurants in the area. Having traveled to Thailand, I can say that the food here compares favorably with that of Bangkok restaurants. A little more spice would have been a big plus for me, but the option to add chili separately is a great feature.

This place used to be great and my go-to Thai place. Within the last couple of months the quality has dramatically deteriorated. My favorite curry dish now tastes and looks horrible (a big layer of oil that doesn’t mix with the food). We returned it, because we thought something went wrong, but the second version looked and tasted the same. The Papaya Salad is now half uneatable cabbage (see photo) for 15(!)Euro and the Tom Kha soup had 4 small pieces of chicken. And as a bonus: One of the last two dishes caused a serious case of food poisoning.

I had ordered several dishes: Pad See Ew, Pad Krapow, Massaman Curry, and Satay. The website states that you will get traditional Thai food. The dishes do not taste traditional at all. The Pad See Ew was very sweet, and the Pad Krapow was not ground beef, but strips of meat. The satay was mediocre, and the Massaman contained barely any chicken. Very disappointed, considering the reviews were very high.

Unfortunately, not very happy. Positive: the atmosphere is nice and cozy. The food is ready quickly. The vegetables were nice and crispy. Not happy about the duck kao pad: - price and size of the meal are disproportionate, small portion - duck was fried until grey (pre-fried?) and therefore mediocre in taste and texture. - fried rice was sticky and not nicely dry - requesting to make it nice and spicy was not possible in communication with the kitchen. I did get chili flakes to sprinkle over it myself... oh well - little flavor in the dish. So I added the chili flakes and my own nam pla at home. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time it's been disappointing. Quite pricey for what you get, not really Thai-flavored, preparation quality like an all-you-can-eat. It was much better when the restaurant opened! Please go back to how it was!

Worst pad thai i ever had, i dont know how they have 4.9 star because its not authentic just random sweet and sour sauce on the pad thai, red curry is a bit better i guess but just feels like chili oil on chicken and veggies

Great Thai takeaway spot. Slightly on the pricier side but everything I’ve tried has been worth it. Food is consistently on point and they also have a nice selection of Thai drinks. Just know this is a tactical operation: get in, get out. No bathroom, no hanging around, no “let me sit and reflect on life.” Plan accordingly before collecting your curry. Would absolutely return.

I had high expectations, but was still surprised. Very good food.

It’s so sad you cannot sit inside it was very very cold and they told me my only option was to buy to take away because they didn’t have permit to sell food inside. I found it odd giving the tables and chairs inside the restaurant.

Take out only. My US debit card didn’t work there but there was an ATM very close by. Food was amazing… some of the best sate and pad Thai I’ve ever eaten if not the best. I even went back during my week long work trip.

I bought 3 fish cakes and a tofu pad thai with noodles, and that cost 25 (!) euros in total. The cakes were okay, just way too big. Too much flour in them. The tofu stir-fry was really nothing. Way too many noodles; there was hardly any tofu or vegetables to be seen. Disappointing. Something like this used to cost €10. Now it's €25 and you get cakes that are too thick, too many noodles, but not enough tasty stuff. And sorry, really way too expensive.

The food was nice, staff were friendly. However, I ordered chicken but got beef (and I don't eat beef) so had to swap the food with my partner because I only found out once I got home 😅

I have only had a positive experience every time I have been to the restaurant and would recommend visiting to try their menu.

After my worst date ever, I saw that dong son was open. I ordered for the first time there, and omg it was amazing. The food warmed me up unlike my date, best thing ever. REALLY recommended to go there, lovely people and the wall has most of their dishes show casing which I love a lot (since I’m an artist myself).

Got shouted for trying to eat inside. "You can't eat inside!!". Why do you have the seats then AND why cashier didn't warn us when we said we order for eating there, not for takeaway.

I’ve been actively looking for the best food places all over the city and I can confidentially say that this Thai restaurant is my absolute favourite one by far. The pad thai was incredibly flavourful and delicious, and I really loved the bamboo and baby corn in the pad phed. The portion sizes are also enormous and amazing value for their price. I’m already looking at the menu to decide which dishes I want to try next time :)

We tried Dong Son for the first time in July 2025, I had Keang Phed Ped Yang and my wife (who takes spicy Thai VERY seriously) got Keang Kiew Waan with chicken. We both got blown away by big delicious portions, friendly & fast service and all the spiciness you can ask for! If you read this... go get it!

This is a fantastic spot for Thai food - I recommend to take away as there is not a lot of seating inside. Luckily it’s close by a few park options. Food was delicious and the best Thai we’ve had in Amsterdam. We’ve tried quite a few dishes and everything has been great so far. Also really good with my peanut allergy! The very best Thai in Amsterdam, by far. When I don't feel like cooking I always come to Dong Son to pick up a nice dish (or 2) and I have tried almost everything by now. They keep surprising me. The Pad Thai (classic) is really incredibly delicious, the Tom Yam soup is great, the Thai beef salad is also very tasty, the Prik Thai dam is also really top notch. I never write a review but these people deserve 5 stars with their hard work and delicious healthy dishes. They welcome you with great enthusiasm and a big smile, that attention and love also goes into the food and you can taste it.

Delicious Thai food with nice and fast service. Super nice how they also display the menu on the wall. The Thom Kha soup is a must have with my order! I like to cycle a bit and therefore definitely recommend Dong Son.

The tom kah kai soup is really good! In combination with a bowl, this was a lot of food. Next time we'll go for two tom kah kai and share a bowl. But definitely recommended!

Since I moved to the timber ports, I regularly get my food. Really great every time. Initially it seems a bit pricey, but the portions you get for the price are absolutely right!

Until their reorganization a few weeks ago, this was, in my opinion, one of the tastiest Thai restaurants in Amsterdam. Now I'm not sure yet whether the new recipe is also a better one 🤷‍♂️ The nuance in the flavors is completely drowned out and my digestion is not entirely happy either 🤷‍♂️ EDIT!!!: the issues in my stomach were mainly caused by the actress in my life. The food at Dong Son today, just like the Lap Kai of the week, was really delicious 🙏 I'm leaving the Houthavens, but where I'm going isn't such a tasty Thai 🤷‍♂️

We ordered a curry and pad Thai. Curry was really good, pad Thai was disappointing : very sweet taste, it was more a lot of noodle with (I assume) soja than proper pad Thai - we lived a year in Thailand. High price but very generous serving !

People always laugh. I wish they would stop doing that. I had a hard time. I was wrong and depressed. I went back to Don Son. Always laughing. And they do take your money. Yes, I'm going there. Because it's close. And now I ordered the papaya salad. OK I should have looked at the plates and seen that the papaya I didn't know is white raw vegetables. I made a mistake. But instead of seeing it separately. You gave me a bad review. You don't have to come here anymore. No, that won't happen again. I think the food is mediocre. But above all, I find people hypocritical. I asked 3 people. They all thought I was right. This is not what you imagine with papaya salad. Even though it is so natural.

Standard restaurant if I want to order food. Fast, delicious, large portions & super friendly staff. All curries are to die for, but specifically the massaman (nice and mild & sweet) and the keang kiew waan (very spicy). I'll always keep coming back here.

After reorganization they are back...asked for some extra peppers and basil, after which they delivered me a really top Authentic Thai dinner at no extra cost! Mainly take it with you, sitting there is also small and limited. Great👍🏽

Les plats sont excellents et très copieux.Nous les avons pris a emporter mais il y a quelques places pour consommer sur place .L' accueil est impeccable ainsi que le restaurant.

You might be a little bit surprised while looking at the photo as the interior doesn't match the restaurant one. The explanation is really simple. This is only a takeaway place. HOWEVER, we have been told we can just cross the street and go to the bar over there and the staff will bring us the food. Which really happened after like 10-15 minutes! It's a win-win-win situation for both places and for their customers. Big portions, super nice service. Unfortunately when we tried to do the same manoeuvre on Wednesday, it was closed - despite the regular opening hours :(

Always go here for authentic Thai food. They’re one of the few places that do not skimp on Thai ingredients. Definitely a go to spot!

I love this place! The food is the best Thai I have had in Amsterdam, I always go for the Duck phad thai - all the meals are such good portions and great value for what you get :D The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is cosy, it really is such a good addition to the neighbourhood for all the locals to enjoy some delicious Thai food! I actually now moved away (not far) but I do make a special effort to go pick up a meal a few times in the month - thats just how good it is!

Really fantastic tasty curries! The green (just spicy enough) curry is especially great. I've tried many Thai curries in Amsterdam, but this one really ranks at the top. Always friendly people who take the order, never a problem to adjust the dish. If I could give 10 stars I certainly would.
