Excellent cocktails and a crazy collection of whiskey from all over the world - probably one of the most impressive I've ever seen - in an underground bunker like atmosphere. Also some interesting food with a limited menu. Truly one of a kind with bartenders who know what they're doing and take the time to explain their expansive menu. We will be back to try their flight experience! Note - the entrance is not easy to find as it's on the river level.

One tip: Make sure to read the house rules before you go. Let's start with the food. We tried shrimp and duck dumplings. The 🦆 ones were too fatty for my taste, while the 🦐 nailed it. We also tried the brownie with bacon. I highly recommend it. Now the drinks. They were the real deal. We went for a fleet. The waitress was super helpful. Just let her know what you like and she will surprise you very neatly. My friends also tried the mezcal fleet, and a few alcoholic and non alcoholic cocktails. I would definitely come back for the drinks again. ❤️

This is a very good whiskey bar. I have been to this place twice. The first time I went I had a seat at the bar/counter and I had a much better experience. I received a lot more information about the whiskeys that I ordered. The second time I went I had a table and my whiskey experience was a bit different. I recommend this place for the experience and ambiance. From a pricing point of view, the price is a bit on the high side.

A cozy cocktail bar with a slightly chaotic charm. Sometimes you have to wait for your drink, but it's worth it. The mixes are original, the service is friendly, and the decor is stylish without being overdone. It's a great place to hang out with friends and try something new.

One of the best Whisky experiences I have ever had. The Malt Vault is a small, hidden (it took me longer than I care to admit) but beautiful and cosy bar. The ambience was very relaxing and exciting at the same time. I told the Barkeeper what Whisky I like and got presented with a very fitting flight of whiskys. Deep flavors, sweet notes and just a wonderful taste. If you're a whisky lover or just a whisky curious person, I can only recommend coming here.

A stylishly decorated whiskey café by the water, it can be a bit tricky to find for someone unfamiliar with the place. The staff is extremely professional. Despite the excellent service, we found it odd that a flood of menu information suddenly came at us in English without even asking if we were okay with it. It seemed like no one on the staff that evening spoke Dutch.

We had a great time here. Server and bar staff were very knowledgeable, super friendly too. Made sure we were comfortable and the drinks were amazing! That grumpy old man (the drink, not the owner!) will haunt me until my next visit (soon!). Those smoky almonds are to die for and the location is amazing.

We had booked a whisky tasting, everything only in English, very little to no explanation, they ask up to 4 times if you want more, the water pipette was not explained how or what to use, luckily we knew this because it was not the 1st tasting for us, once but never again, too expensive for what you get

I have been to Utrecht for a few days and been recommended the Malt Vault by a business partner. As I work in the whisky industry myself, I have had the pleasure to taste it straight from the cask and have been invited by distilleries to, what I call them, "bribe tours". Such as fine dine and whatnot with some whisky. It has been years in the industry for now and barely ever have I seen such passion for whisky than the young lady with the black hair and beautiful eye makeup has shown me here. How they handle the different qualities and peatiness/smokiness, has been explained thoroughly and yet in such an astounding compact format, I was blown away. In no shape or form has it been rushed, it was just perfected to the point I was absolutely sold. Ignore the distilleries and their industry partners, I have been to an unholy amount of whisky "professional" bars and whisky serving bars before, never have I been told what I can expect if I choose this or that, nor was the pricing transparent to me. Just slap a price shield onto something generally know to be expensive and be done. The Malt Vault has found a fair way to handle it. Sure, you do pay the premium for the location and service, which I think is fair. In their case, it wasn't just fair, but top notch to say the least. I just had to visit a 2nd time on my last evenning in Utrecht and it was a lot more busy that night. Yet, still welcoming atmosphere. I knew from the night before which one I wanted to go for so I did order it right away (Glasgow 5yo, bottled by Hidden Spirits, if you want a good dram - ignore the established distilleries and go for the younger/newer ones as they still have to put effort into it). Again, served with a water dropper, bottle of drinking water, clean glas and the dram itself. I have failed to ask the lady for her name, but she has done such a great job. While I could tell the location was rather filled on the 2nd day, she never made anybody feel like rushed or unwelcome. Still explaining every detail on the larger group arriving rather late at night. Seriously, they are doing something right there! If you just want to get a good taste of the different levels/qualities/smokiness and whatever facette Whisky has to offer, they are a great ground to start. I would only whish they would have a little more price effective grouping for a flight. Very well just me personally thinking that way as cheaper whiskies can be good as well. Then again, taste is very different! Sounds silly, but me personally, I like a beer alongside while I am tasting whisky. For me, it works like a dried orange peel. So I was glad they do serve some very basic and mellov beer ("Brand", that's the name of it). But alas, you get a full bottle of fresh water, if you prefere to reset with that. Oh and also: When it does not rain, you can also sit outside right at the canal. It was mind boggingly good sitting there and having a good dram, I just stared down the river for minutes. Good time. They still came outside to check on you, which just added to the greatness while being there! Long story shot: Highly recommended! Don't go there tipsy/drunk. Savour it sober and start slow. You will like it. You can pay by card, so don't worry about getting cash beforehand.

The bar is small but very cozy. The bartender had incredible knowledge on whiskey and their pairings. We described our usual food/drink tastes and she came back with cocktails that ticked all the boxes and were an experience by itself

Amazingly nice and knowledgeable staff, outstanding selection of whiskeys and cocktails after which I can die happily. We got a great flight of whiskeys, and the cocktails advised by the bartender matched our personal preferences perfectly. A great end to our mini-honeymoon and we are so very thankful!

This is, hands down, the best whisky and cocktail bar I have been to. There is a reason why I have been going for years and will continue to go. The quality and thought that goes into every single detail shows. The staff’s knowledge is immense and they make you feel very welcome. There are cocktails here that I cannot find anywhere else as they design their own. A must go for anyone in Utrecht. Plus, the whisky selection is insane.

I've been coming to this bar for years, and I always leave completely satisfied. Drinks are great and service is outstanding! The staff are always lovely (both friendly and professional) and happy to help, which really contributes to the great atmosphere.

Too expensive in my opinion. The whiskey we had was tasty, but at 22 euros per glass it was really too expensive. Especially when you know that the bottle costs 100 euros and the quantity is equivalent to 30 glasses from a bottle. Fine for once, but I won't be coming back here.

Service was outstanding! Great explanation of their flight selection. Food was wonderful. Drinks were above average but not quite outstanding. We had a great time. I don’t know why this place is not full every hour they are open. The architecture is amazing and the vibe is excellent!

Delicious Wiskey tasting and cocktails. Nice platter with types of cheese, types of sausage, dates and toast. Only the goat cheese disappointed us, it was too dry. Everything else was delicious! 👌🏻

Amazing whiskey and cocktail selection! I was really impressed by the organization of the cocktail cart. They designed it so cleverly that it was incredibly easy to navigate. The taste of my Cloud9 cocktail was exceptional.

We loved the mault vault! Extremely kind and knowledgeable servers who added so much to our experience. They also offer a great variety of cocktails with guidance on taste profile, as well as so many whiskey tasting options. Loved the cloud 9 cocktail specifically! With the beautiful interior and atmosphere, would 100% recommend.

Really enjoyed the whiskey selection and the beautiful location on the canal. There is a choice of 3 price categories and within them you can choose which flavor range you want: subtle, full, rich flavor or smoky. They also have cocktails that looked good. And various snacks are offered, but no lunch/dinner. It was a bit of a pain to find, it is down the stairs and then all the way in the corner.

Last visited July 2024. Nice location, loved the deco. Separated the whisky into 3 price ranges. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The only downside would be the cost. Being specialist in whisky, i would have thought the pricing would differ. Updates to 5 stars after visiting a few time. Now become a regular place when in Utrecht I will return when back in utrecht.

This place has very cool smoky cocktails and different types of whisky. They also serve some dumplings and snacks which goes very well with the drinks. The atmosphere is very cozy and interesting. The location is a little hidden in the lower level of the canal but I think it is good in a way, otherwise this place with this quality would be always packed with people😅

We arrived just before closing time. Using the very clearly laid out menu, we were given friendly and patient advice by the bartender and were also allowed to try the whiskeys used for the cocktails before ordering. As a whiskey beginner, I was also treated very well and I felt I was well advised. The whiskey sour was very light and the in-house adaptation of the Dark Manhattan was convincing in terms of taste. The entrance is quite hidden at canal level under the bridge, but we found someone who could show us the way.

Found this hidden gem in a search for a nice cocktail bar. The place is quite hidden, but worth a visit! The bar is more focused on whiskey, but you have plenty of options if you are looking for something else as well! We went there for some cocktails and were not disappointed. What is nice is that you can see in the menu how your cocktail looks like, so you know what to expect :) We tried various cocktails and ejoyed all of them! The atmoshpere is also very nice, the place being quite cozy, and the waitress was very friendly! Looking forward to come again, and hopefully will get to see the cat, as we heard it is visiting from time to time!

The bar looks beautiful. However, last time I visited this place I didn't feel welcome, caused by the pretentious attitude of the bartender. Halfway through my whiskey he wanted to take my glass away because he didn't think I was 'focused' enough on my drink (I was just talking to a friend, not dancing on a table).

Platte für zwei war super, Karte ist auch schön erklärt. Der hier empfohlene Grumpy old man hat mir allerdings nicht geschmeckt. Für Whisky Liebhaber aber der Hotspot und die Location ist wirklich etwas besonderes direkt in den Grachten. Es fehlt allerdings das Logo der location deshalb schwer zu finden. Bei Bodytalk am besten gegenüber direkt die Treppe runter und dann rechts.

They have 300 whiskey ,outstanding cocktails and an incredibly nice host who explains everything to you. They have a great snack to eat with the drink. Nice and cosy place. Tip: make a reservation before you go.

Prachtige locatie met een geweldig aanbod aan wiskey. Mooi buitenplaats om ook nog eens een lekkere sigaar bij de wisky te roken.

Er was een geweldige ervaring met hun service. Alle medewerkers waren super vriendelijk en enthousiast. We werden door Guicy geholpen. We komen zeker terug.
