The Villy Rhapsody in De Kolenkit

I've been sitting here for about 30 minutes and I'm still waiting for my double espresso, can my order be that difficult?

We ordered Turkish eggs, and the poached eggs were hard. I pointed this out, and they cooked them new ones. The second ones were also hard. I didn't want to mention it again due to time constraints. When I paid, I was asked if it had worked, and I said no. The only response was "oh, sorry." €13 for two hard-boiled eggs and a bit of onion and eggplant (there was barely any yogurt) is, unfortunately, a disgrace.

Really unfriendly server I strongly advise against it, no respect for foreigners!

I used to come here regularly for lunch. Today I came back after a while and saw that the menu has changed. Unfortunately not for the better. Much less choice, taste has deteriorated. Unfortunately I did not find the Turkish eggs worth my money. The eggs were also not poached. What was a favorite, is now a place where I will not come back to eat.

Very nice place for breakfast and to possibly work. Friendly and helpful staff. Not in the most charming place but definitely recommended.

Nice place with a living room feeling and sweet service, where you can also work nicely. Unfortunately it has become very expensive, 4.80 for a very small flat white and +0.30 for oat milk. Too bad!

As a local resident and very frequent customer since the opening, there have been menu changes before, but none as disappointing as this latest one. No more breakfast deal or lunch deal is really sad. These made it possible to have a varied breakfast or lunch at a reasonable price and kept me coming back on a regular basis. I will be going much less often now that these are not available. In general, the new menu just feels like cost cutting at the expense of the customer experience :(

Not many choices for breakfast. Turkish Toast taste ordinary. The Avocado toast, avocado spread don’t seem from fresh avocado, don’t taste good. Too pricey. Cappuccino not great too…

Very good neighbourhood cafe with incredibly friendly staff. Everyone was super accommodating and the atmosphere is great.

Disappointing new menu. Clearly you are trying to cut costs, however, you shouldn’t sacrifice on the quality. Flammkuchen looks disgraceful and Turkish eggs are disappointing.

Too bad, since the menu has been changed, the portions are really not worth the money. 15 euros for a chicken salad with a few pieces of chicken, tomato, arugula and croutons. Normally their chicken salad came with lots of vegetables, which makes it really filling, I could have easily made this at home. Too bad I came here often, but if this remains the menu, unfortunately.

It's nice there. The quality of the food is fine, but unfortunately they have changed the menu and the appetizers are gone. You also had a halal option there. Furthermore, drinks are tasty, but a bit pricey.

Really good tasting, quality, breakfast. Reasonable choice of options. Initially had the feeling of a University coffee bar with single young adults working on their laptops, but later became more busy with groups having breakfast/brunch together.

Great avocado toast and good smoothie too!

I just arrived at The Villy, looking forward to having lunch. Upon arrival I was told that the kitchen had already closed at 2:15, while it normally closes at 4 o'clock. Very bad service 👎🏻

We had a very good breakfast at The Villy over the weekend - the Yoghurt bowl, the pancakes and the avocado sandwich were excellent. However the coffee was not warm enough and the chocolate croissant was mediocre. The service was excellent. We will be back.

The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, the food was delicious, and the service was friendly and efficient. We were completely satisfied and would definitely recommend it for a relaxing café experience.

Great place to have a quick chat or work flexibly. Comfortable seats. Often busy and staff are understaffed, so sometimes it can take a long time before they come to you. Once they get there, the staff is very friendly and helpful. The sandwich is very tasty!

After many positive stories from friends, my good friend and I decided to visit The Villy. We chose a spot on the window side, near the toilets. Soon the tables around us were neatly cleared and the waitress even walked by twice to clean other tables. But as far as we are concerned, little happened after that. We literally waited 15 minutes without anyone coming to take our order. Not even a welcome greeting or an apology for the long wait. It was clear that we were simply ignored. After waiting for so long we finally decided to get up and leave. The atmosphere we experienced here was definitely not what we expected based on the positive stories. This was a huge disappointment and completely unjustifiable.

I go there almost every week, nice place, this morning I wanted to order a latte macchiato, the employee didn't know how to make it. Another employee helped her, but the coffee is still not Latte macchiato. I got an espresso macchiato, there is clearly a difference in taste, a very bitter waste of my money. Furthermore, I find them very friendly, but still a disappointment.

Nice tent for working and chilling

Upon arrival I was clearly asked whether I should order at the bar or at the table. Lady clearly said that it could also be done at the table. After waiting fifteen minutes I left. Staff do not make eye contact with you and are only concerned with each other. This is a shame because I have been coming for years.

Been here 4 times over the span of 3 years because it is close to my house (and the only place like it in short walking distance) and I just keep hoping it'll be better. Every time I have been here staff don't see you come in and nobody greets you when you sit down, even if its almost empty inside. Takes more than 15 mins for someone to notice you and then you have to ask for a menu yourself. After getting a menu they either instantly forget about you, or they do so after bringing you your 1st drink. Have always had to go up to the desk to order the rest or a new round of coffees/drinks because its like you become a ghost to them. They are kind though, even if bad at their work. They seem to serve randomly (aka helping people who come in after you first) and its very unprofessional. It seems like they dont each have their own 'zone' to pay attention to and serve which makes it very messy. My tip if you can't get servers to keep an eye on tables and people coming in is to make everyone order at the desk and give you table numbers. It'll instantly solve the issue. I'm used to Amsterdam pricing, especially with the use of good products, but even for that the proportions are off. Though very tasty, the food portions are very small for what you pay. Glad to say the quality of the food has gone up in 3 years though. Last time I was here was with my partner for a little drink and snack stop on our way, and not only did I end up having to order at the desk again, we were told only the smaller snacks would be available as it was an hour til closing (which is fine) but when I ordered they said nothing could be made anymore. This made no sense with the food times on the menus either. (I don't remember exactly... Something only available after 15:00 I think but then apparently you only serve it for an hour because you stop serving food and hour before closing.. Why bother) Will also never forget the time I ordered and espresso martini and had it served, foamless, in a white wine glass.... Sorry but that was just... No

Yummy breakfast (especially, I was told) croissants and marmelade in the Wakey Wakey breakfast). The avocado spread and sourdough bread are amazing. Friendly service and excellent cappuccino.

Nice lunchroom, with a nice menu. Vega and Vegan options are really nice. Unfortunatly their portions are quiet smalll. €9 for one piece of bread with toppings is kind of a ripp off. Most lunchrooms offer 2 pieces of bread for the same menu :)

A really nice place with a nice interior and lots of fun games that you can play there. It's a shame that quite often when I order a drink after renting a workplace, I am surprisingly easily forgotten. Making eye contact with the service is not always easy. I too have had staff speak English to me unnecessarily, but that is largely an Amsterdam ailment and I am not inclined to take it personally. The staff is simply pleasant and nice and the choice of drinks is great. 👌🏻 I hope to be forgotten less often in the future.

After 2 years living in this area of Amsterdam I can confirm with strong confidence that The Villy offers a great selection of food, drinks and pastries. The service (Valerio always know what I need even before I ask) and the atmosphere are undoubtedly top notch. I highly recommend this place.

Cozy place where you can drink good coffee, pastries, close to the tram, buses and the New Kit hotel. The pistachio cookie is excellent, a little sweet, the latte machiato was also very good and the moccachino too. There is a wide choice with plant-based alternatives (soy, coconut, almond, etc.). The service is good, the waitress is professional and present. She knows her map and guides us if necessary. Cozy and original interior atmosphere. Industrial and Scandinavian style. Many people come to work in this café and it is very friendly.

So good we came 5 times lol 😅 we came for breakfast and lunch while staying at hotel new kit nearby. The food and drinks are really good quality and the prices are very reasonable. Also cool quirky interior and lovely staff.

Cosy atmosphere and well designed coffee shop. I have been there for a breakfast. The wacky wacky formula was yummy and the price was correct for the quality + friendly staff. Halal and vegan options were really the cherry on top. I recommend!

I just had a coffee, and a workmeeting there. There was plenty of space, good location, several tables laptopfree, but others that allowed it. Good atmosphere.

I think it is a shame that everyone next to me was always addressed in Dutch by the Dutch staff and I was always addressed in English just after, even when I order and talk back in Dutch. The only difference between me and them was our appearance. Don't decide for yourself whether someone can speak Dutch or not, but listen to them. It feels very annoying. Especially in a place that portrays itself as a safe space. Everything else is fine.

We enjoyed an excellent breakfast with delicious coffee. Savory Pancakes and The Real Dutch Uitsmijter are highly recommended. :) Fresh ingredients, friendly service, a cozy atmosphere and fair prices make this location what it is. We'd love to come back.

I loved the food (this was the Karma Kebab salad), but the staff needs to improve their way of dealing with guests. They don’t really notice you when you come in, they have you wait for more than ten minutes, they don’t bring you the menu, and they don’t look at you when you pay the bill. Also, it’s annoying to see them walking around with dirty dishes all of the time.

Generally the food and ambience at the Villy is amazing! The service is quite poor though. It’s not the first time it’s happened but the most recent experience - waited 15 mins for someone to come take our order and no one came. The staff was attending to all other tables around us and no one even stopped to check if we had placed an order or not. Eventually, frustrated - we left.

Had an incredibly wonderful afternoon with friends and family after my civil wedding at the Stadsloket. Delicious sandwiches. Sweet girls in the business who thought carefully about the wishes of our group. Absolutely great!!!

At this place, I experienced the best customer service in the 8 years I’ve been living in Europe. A very kind Greek girl offered a smile and advice on the food. Such a great atmosphere, which made the food taste like heaven.

Hier 2 jaar na ons bezoek weer geluncht. Het grote deel van de kaart is Vega geworden. We aten een gepocheerd ei met hiisgemaakte avocado spread en een crossiant met een heerlijke jam. Daarbij heerlijke smoothies. We hebben genoten hier, lekker buiten op het terras. De dame in de bediening was tevens erg vriendelijk.

Really my favorite place to have a nice coffee, but very often the coffee is cold, I always hear this from others so I really try to pay attention to that. The coffee itself is tasty so it's a shame! And delicious brownies 😍

I understand the idea behind a paid work spot... but it is sometimes unclear where this is possible, how it works and apparently also difficult to enforce for the staff. I sometimes come for a work meeting and if I just grab the laptop I am sent to the indicated “laptop table” which is always full. In addition, I was ignored today after being sent to the big table with my laptop. I wasn't asked if I wanted to order anything. Worked for an hour without consuming anything. I think this regulation also misses its target and that is “service”. Hopefully you can help with this sincere feedback.

Best breakfast we had over a long weekend in Amsterdam. Delicious and fresh food with quality ingredients. Helpful and friendly service. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and very clean.

We were staying in a hotel next door and we went for breakfast three days, the service was great and the variety was notable, the only drawback was the price, which was quite high, although for this country it was not unreasonable either. The atmosphere is very good and relaxed, even to be able to work.

Sincerely the best coffeeshop . They have beans from Friedhats. I don't know how they do it but I've never had better coffee in my life. Beautiful place with wonderful staff. I can only recommend! ❤️❤️❤️

The service is great - lovely staff and very accommodating. The atmosphere is relaxed, open, and inviting. While the food is tasty, the menu could be more interesting. I appreciate that it’s likely well-thought through for the neighbourhood it’s located in (the dishes are very accessible), personally, I think it could benefit from some surprises to elevate the experience. Having said that, The Villy really adds value to the neighbourhood. :)

Nice cosy spot which is very casual. Laptops only allowed on certain shared tables (which I think should be implemented more often at other establishments) to free up more space for other customers. Coffee is good but at a slightly higher price point than average. The savoury pancakes are a bit strange because of the maple syrup which is poured over everything, therefore not making them savoury anymore????. Will definitely recommend to others.

Skinny salad. Sweet potato was still hard and the 'grilled chicken' was gone after two or three bites. Two pieces of broccoli and two pieces of zucchini. For the price-quality ratio I would be better off going to the AH. Not to be repeated.

Just a cozy café where you can do your work on your laptop without compromising the atmosphere. Furthermore, the coffee is quite good, but that depends on the barista, some have more experience than others. You can see this, for example, in how the milk is frothed. I am very satisfied with the interior and the many workplaces in the café. The owner is customer friendly and involved with the customers. So keep it up, but one small point for improvement is the inexperienced baristas.

Would leave a 0 if possible. Me and some friends who are not dutch came in to have some breakfast. We were then met with an incredibly rude waiter with long hair and glasses who said we cant come and eat without a reservation. A group of dutch people came in after us without a reservation and they were say down straight away without any worries or trouble. It seems like they are incredibly rude to us because we were not dutch and refused to seat us. The guy with the long hair and glasses is not made out for hospitality and needs a career change. Dont come here.

Staff were very rude, didn’t speak to us or want to seat us. We ended up leaving and just asking for a coffee to take away, this took almost half an hour for them to make. The place it’s self is nice but awful owner and staff, would not recommend

Love this place. Chill, modern and inclusive. Even in Ramadan, they have accommodated fasting clients with need-not-order policy (but use co-working facilities). Very creative, with distinct areas for no-laptop usage.

I've been here 4 times and each time I've had to wait 45 minutes to an hour. I did my best to understand the crowds, but I soon noticed that customers who arrived a while after me were helped earlier. This has been the case every time I have come. You hear that you only have to wait 5 minutes longer because it is busy, but after an hour you are still overlooked even though it has already become quiet. Very unfortunate because the food is delicious and the atmosphere is cozy, but unfortunately you won't see me again :(

Good food, shame about the staff being a little rude

After an unpleasant experience, Oumaima helped us very well. She heard our story, showed understanding and even apologized for someone else. The icing on the cake was that we were also allowed to have a cup of coffee and something tasty. We are no longer disappointed and will definitely visit again. Next time especially for her!

This place is warm with a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff, a bit slow though. I got the turmeric chai latte and the pulled chicken salad which was really tasty.

Nice place, but the fact that you now have to pay for a seat per minute is really a reason to sit somewhere else.

Very nice atmosphere - a gezellig restaurant! Congrats on the quality of the bread (I understand it is from a nearby bakery) - it really elevates your food: which was on the average side - room for improvement on the leek soup (not very flavourful) and how the poached egg was (over) cooked.

Very cute cozy interior cafe, so happy to have this place in the neighborhood. Perfect place for work & read, weekend brunch, coffee catch up etc. They have good coffee. Food is good but not outstanding considering the price. Staff are nice and friendly. Overall, I like this place a lot :) Some tables are laptop free, but they also have other tables dedicated for PC users with power sockets, free wifi available too.

Gezellige plek, leuke activiteiten, toffe werkplek én smaakvol ingericht, met super vriendelijke bediening. Ik bestelde het lunch trio bestaand uit een slaatje, soep en sandwich. Het was lang wachten, ongeveer 40 minuten en de selderij soep was helaas echt heel erg smakeloos. Het slaatje had geen dressing en was basically gewoon een bakje slablaadjes. De sandwich (pulled chicken) daarentegen was erg lekker. Twee thee besteld, ook op beiden meer dan 15 minuten gewacht. Shame!
