What a lovely surprise, Tolhuis Vijf in Apeldoorn. A lovely place with a cozy, informal atmosphere and a kitchen that clearly knows its stuff. We opted for the five-course surprise menu and were truly pampered. The service was excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable. They were mindful of our pace and constantly checked if we were ready for the next course. The amuse-bouche with Tom Kha Kai ice cream in a homemade cone was a unique introduction. Fresh flavors, a distinct hint of lemongrass, and a nice spicy twist at the end. Next came a perfectly cooked cod, tender in texture, with strawberry and tomato that created a surprising sweet-and-sour contrast. The scallop with lemon beurre blanc was also beautifully balanced. The dessert was a feast with elderflower and rhubarb in various textures: ice cream, foam, and mousse. Light, refreshing, and beautifully rounded. We enjoyed a fruity white wine that complemented it perfectly, and started the evening with a fine sparkling wine. For those who appreciate fine dining without fuss, this is an absolute must. The price-quality ratio is excellent, and you can tell they cook with love and care. A place where you can truly enjoy yourself, whether you're here for a business dinner or an evening with friends. Finally, we'd like to thank them for the wonderful experience and hospitality. We, and our four-legged friend, felt very welcome to enjoy an evening with them.

We ate here and the food was delicious. The service however was dramatic. For the price you expect a certain kind of service and that was not met. Little said about the food we got although that was the case at other tables. Waited more than 25 minutes for new drinks. Waited 50 minutes for our table to be cleared. Unfortunately for us not successful.

Beautiful location with delicious food! Highly recommended with excellent service and beautiful wines that perfectly match the carefully prepared dishes. The menus are also beautifully composed and well balanced.

The restaurant is located in a beautiful green environment, is very cozy and there is a warm atmosphere. Reception was warm, bubbles very tasty, dishes delicious and nicely presented, staff attentive, all in all very atmospheric. We enjoyed it, recommended!

We enjoyed the spring menu of Tolhuis Vijf this week. It was a party from arrival to departure with the very tasty four-course menu with 'frikandel special' appetizer. Smooth and knowledgeable service with excellent attention to detail in a beautiful ambiance, a real pleasure. Everything is perfect in this place and we definitely recommend it for a fun evening out.

We had dinner for the 2nd time tonight... which was great the first time, but now it was so disappointing... the restaurant was really cold and when we pointed this out they simply said that they had not heard that before... The wine was always poured for me, while my fellow table companions were often skipped. My husband had significantly less meat on his plate compared to me and my brother-in-law. All in all, the atmosphere and experience was much less... no, we will not be back.

We were a group of 7 eating and we had a fantastic evening! The food was delicious. I had the steak tartare, the duo of duck and the mix of dessert. Every dish was fantastic. What was especially good were the wines. Lots of choice at a reasonable price. We also received very nice help. This in combination with the 'living room' atmosphere makes for a very accessible and cozy experience. All in all great! Definitely recommended!

Christmas Eve dinner with family. Food was delicious, atmosphere was good, service ensures that you don't miss anything. Santa Claus came as a surprise and presents were handed out. In short, we had a fantastic evening and enjoyed it immensely. Restaurant is highly recommended.

It was a fantastic dinner. My colleague and I really felt like queens, that's how we were treated. Extremely friendly service, nothing was too much trouble. Atmosphere was also great, very cozy. The food was great in taste and presentation, I can only say one thing: although the plates were hot, some things were just a bit lukewarm. But other than that little point it was really perfect. Onderweg, ‘en route’ wilde wij een kleinigheidje eten. We werden alleraardigst ontvangen. Een simpel broodje werd niet geserveerd, alleen een warme lunch. Een kop soep met wat brood was voldoende voor ons. Wij vielen met onze neus in de boter. Lekker glaasje witte wijn. Eerst een mooie amuse, daarna een héérlijke bisque en een prachtige uiensoep met brood en olijfolie. Toe koffie/thee met friandises. Voldoende voor ons, ook gezien de beschikbare tijd. Bij binnenkomst was het rustig, maar toen wij vertrokken was het restaurant helemaal vol. Desondanks was de vriendelijke bediening heel prettig. Men verontschuldigde zich dat ze ons geen uitgeleide deed. (Te druk!) Als wij meer tijd hebben komen we zeker terug!

An excellent surprise menu! After our reservation didn't turn out well elsewhere, we decided to take a chance and call about a table for 2. Coincidentally, we were able to come by right away. The entrance and interior are very attractive and the welcome and food are of high quality! The acoustics are pleasant, as is the service from the boy who served us our food each time. We felt the timing between courses was perfect too. The main course - in our case deer fillet - was so good in taste, color and tenderness, we had never been served anything like it before. Not to forget the variety and colorful dishes; everything just fit. Thank you very much for a super fun evening! If we are in the area we will without a doubt come back for dinner.

In addition, the service is top notch. At the table, each ingredient is mentioned and the combination of dish and wine is discussed. Definitely recommended!

Leuk restaurant, meer dan prima bediening, goed eten maar slechte akoestiek. Het gekozen verjaardagsmenu was prima maar niet helemaal onze voorkeur. Alles was goed bereid maar soms hou je gewoon van andere smaken. Dat is het risico van een verrassingsmenu. Zeker de moeite waard en prijs/ kwaliteit verhouding is dik in orde.

Absolutely recommended! Super tasty food, very beautifully presented, delicious flavor combinations and very fresh ingredients. The service is also absolutely great. You really feel like a guest there, attention is paid to all special wishes and the service is super attentive. I will definitely come back here!

Op een maandagavond je zo in de watten laten leggen- heerlijk! Beginnen met een goede fles Pinot Grigio. Ibericoham vooraf en asperges flamande als hoofdgerecht- smullen! Kaas aan tafel geserveerd met de kaaswagen door de eigenaar/ chefkok en 1x Ile Flatente dessert. Koffie na met limoncello en huisgemaakte friandises. Super! Dank je wel voor de leuke maandagavond. Geweldig sfeertje bij Tolhuis 5.

A lot of money for a lukewarm meal that is not served at the same time. That is really not possible with a bill of more than 150 euros. Apologies if you say something are nice, but with this price compensation would have been more appropriate. If you charge Premier League prices, this should also be reflected in the quality.

Echt lekker gegeten! We hadden het verrassingsmenu. Dat was echt de moeite waard. Lekker wijnarrangement erbij. Hele vriendelijke bediening en gezellige entourage maakte het plaatje compleet.

What a treat to eat here! The service is fantastic (especially from the owners and the host who has been there since the beginning). The food is incredibly good. They take your wishes into account and provide suggestions to make your evening even better. The open kitchen also adds an extra dimension to your evening. Recommended: the surprise menu! We had a very nice evening at Tolhuis Five. The atmosphere and service are really great, they really know how to tell a story about the dishes and wines. The dishes were delicious and the menu has something for everyone. With such experience, they will have a regular customer.

This was the best restaurant I had during my 4 days in the Netherlands. My husband ate the deer, and he said it was tender, juicy, and delicious. The atmosphere of the store is clean and has a nice feel.

Maandag (!) hier neergestreken met wat collega's en het was zeer geslaagd! Heerlijke kleine gerechten mooi op smaak. Verrukkelijke polenta en truffel, mooie scholfilet met een knoflookschuim. Lekker brood met Spaanse olijfolie. Het was allemaal af en lekker. Gemoedelijke ambiance. Goede akoestiek! Prettige vlotte bediening met overzicht. Heel fijn glaswerk van Rona (meteen 6 glazen besteld). Geen enkele dissonant. Hier kun je het anker laten.

Tuesday evening 22-08-23 I had a farewell dinner with colleague Sanne, lovely outside at beautifully laid tables. The most delicious dishes, clearly everything prepared with love! Yesterday we had dinner at Tolhuis 5 with 8 people. After reading the good reviews, it was time to discover this place for yourself. We were kindly received by the host who offered us a tasty pineapple cocktail as a starter. We started with oysters and satay, after which we chose the 4-course dinner + accompanying wines from the menu. The first course was a nice fresh dish with kohlrabi. The pinot blanc that was served was well received and was an excellent choice. We noticed that they are not childish when filling the glasses. They work with a young (sometimes a little too inexperienced) service. The second course was a dish with zucchini and goat cheese. This was accompanied by a delicious peppery sauvignon blanc. The dish had a nice flavour, but as one of the 4 dishes on the menu I thought it was a bit sparse. 4 slices of zucchini with some nuts and a small sprinkle of goat cheese. As a third course we had a beautiful piece of loin and a nice preparation of bavet. Deliciously flavored with a truffle sauce. We drank an Argentinian Malbec with this. As an intermediate course, 6 delicious Dutch cheeses with a tawny port. 1 person in our party did not like cheese and indicated this. We got 7 cheese boards on the table and 1 person got nothing at all. Not even the platter with the bread and compote. This is really a missed opportunity. It would be nice if she was served an alternative or at least just the bread. The glasses are still well filled. What we noticed more and more was that the plates were laid out very differently. We had the feeling that this was not done by one person. The size of the portions at our table also sometimes differed a lot. For dessert a homemade waffle and various preparations of pear. We also drank a not too sweet dessert wine from Chile. After coffee, we were the last to leave the shop, satisfied. 5 stars for the food. They were simply good products and the dishes had a nice flavour. I have not included the differences in layout and size. The host really tried to make it a fun evening for us. I hope that the somewhat young ministry will become more experienced. They are forgiven for the missed opportunity of the cheese board, but I would like to give it as a tip. The atmosphere is just good. 5 stars. All in all a nice place with a good atmosphere and a nice host.

What used to be our favorite restaurant Navet is now Tolhuis Five and we were curious what it would be like now. Because we were staying nearby and were going to celebrate my husband's birthday, we decided to have lunch there. That wasn't a bad idea. Nice welcome in a refreshed and warm atmosphere. Delicious food such as an amuse of a white chocolate bonbon filled with asparagus cream (delicious), followed by an entree of a tasty steak tartare (a little too salty) with a toasted bread roll. The carpaccio as a starter and the trio of veal as a main course. Coffee afterwards with friandises. Highly recommended and an asset to Apeldoorn.

Chose this restaurant based on Tripadvisor. Nice cozy restaurant with unusual food. Chose a 5 course menu and the dishes served were delicious and special. There were delicious wines served and a very friendly host, who was very helpful and came up with a good suggestion for a dessert wine that was not too sweet. The only 2 downsides of the evening were that the owner and mistress stayed talking for a very long time and especially loudly at a table, probably with friends. It was clearly visible and noticeable that other guests were also bothered by it. And that there was a 1/2 glass of dessert wine on the bills because of the tasting. Furthermore, we had a great evening.

Delicious food in a nice atmosphere. The food is not very daring, but good. Missed a potato preparation with main course. Only meat and a bit of cabbage felt a bit bare. The staff does everything they can to ensure you have a pleasant evening. Nice wines too! We will definitely come back again

Because eating out with us is usually a last minute decision, we have made a few mistakes. But tonight (Monday, sic!) we succeeded: a reservation at Tolhuis 5. Quiet ambiance. The menu seems a bit ordinary at first glance, but the dishes were more than pleasant. Scallops on a whitefish rillette in eel stock: you just have to get it. Delicious! Then the duck breast, fried as it should be pink in its own fat. Fine! The wine recommendations were correct. Given the fact that the two of you will spend just over 100 euros for a three-course surprise menu with a matching wine, it is not surprising that reservations should be made a day in advance...
