Tomodachi Teppanyaki in Grachtengordel-Zuid

We had a wonderful Boxing Day! Upon arrival, we were honestly told that there was only one lobster dish for two available – our son was thrilled 😉. There were four of us and we chose two different menus, which made for a nice change. The other guests at the table with their two teenagers were great company, the atmosphere was cozy, and the service was attentive and very friendly. A truly wonderful Christmas experience! The owner proudly and happily tells you about his dishes. You can taste it! The staff and his wife are super friendly and service-oriented. The waygu is top-quality and truly comes from Japan. We do not leave reviews with best rates often, but this place is something else.. Food is incredible (from shrimps, to scallops, to wagyu meat). Each meal was incredibly tasty and the dinner was worth every euro. The chef (I believe his name is Lin if I am not mistaken) was extraordinary and the staff was so friendly but above all extremely professional (something you don't see often in the Netherlands). It was a night to remember and we cant wait to visit again. We highly recommend this place. Thank you once again for a very special dinner.

High quality ingredients cooked in a bland and repetitive way. Every dish had the same four ingredients - scallions, soy, mirin, butter. No variation and nothing tasted of much. Very overpriced for what it is.

Food is good but not much better than at cheaper restaurants and not what you would expect at the premium price. Flavors were subtle and not very complex carried mainly by good ingredients. Staff was friendly and professional.

Tomodachi Teppanyaki is highly recommended. Small-scale restaurant, where you sit at one of the two Teppanyaki tables, sometimes with others (depending on the size of the group). The owner, Mr. Lam, proudly talks about his love for high-quality and delicious Japanese dishes as he prepares his meals at our table. Sauces are made himself, he selects meat and fish / scallops with care: “the tastiest tenderloin is from an XYB: a young bull”;-) We enjoyed it! A big five-star experience.

Came to celebrate a special occasion here and despite not being familiar with this kind of place, the staff were very kind with us and explained the menus. Pros: Everything. Cons: There are no cons. Are you a silly person? Make sure you ask for a side of fried rice, it's incredible.

Our chef was knowledgeable and our food was prepared with skill and delicacy. Such great food and experience. Lovely atmosphere as when we went it wasn't crowded at all. Prices reflected may seem high but it matched the quality of the ingredients. I highly recommend the tenderloin steak, karaage salad, fried rice, and ribeye roll.

An evening out with my mother! We received such a hospitable and friendly welcome upon arrival!!! We wanted to order a menu and some extras, the sweet owner immediately told us, oh no, that will be too much for you! Super honest!!! All dishes were super good!!! If there was a reserved 6-star rating that you could award at most once in ten years for a restaurant, this is a 6-star rating. Tomodachi, run by a true Japanese teppanyaki master with 30+ years of experience, is the closest thing to a truly unique culinary sensation you can get inside the borders of Europe. As a couple we went for the full Wagyu menu, and were treated to an experience for life. It’s like watching the best cooking show you’ve ever witnessed as well as getting to be the sole recipient of what feels like the most rare and exotic ingredients you will ever eat.

Everything was super nice! My top picks are definitely the kyotai ebi and the salmon. Everyone should try them for sure!!! The ingredients are incredibly fresh, which makes a big difference. The service was exceptional—the waitress and chef were so friendly and welcoming. I loved the explanations they provided, and the overall vibe in the restaurant was fantastic. Highly recommend!

When I was traveling in the Netherlands, I unexpectedly ate at this super delicious Teppanyaki restaurant. The boss is friendly, the service is attentive, the ingredients are fresh, and the sauces are all prepared by the lady boss herself. The dining experience is very good👍🏻The portion is also very sufficient, I feel so full~

Underwhelming and mediocre at best. Generally bland and tasteless main course without authentic Japanese flavours. Meat was served with exactly the same sauce which was just sweet and full of butter. Matcha ice cream was tasty. Service was friendly. Way too expensive for what it is. Will not be returning.

Relentlessly mediocre in every way apart from service. The food is toned down for Dutch tastes. The performative cooking will impress, if you haven't lived anywhere (eg London, Taipei, Vancouver, Singapore, and..Japan) with multiple teppanyaki options .. For the price, poor.

Okura was full and therefore "moved" here. That was a good choice. Chef gave a lot of explanation about the preparation. It was certainly not the same sauce everywhere. There are 3 tables which makes it "nicely small". Great experience, we will be back.

We have been there for 3 times. Each time we really enjoyed 🥹 The chief will explain the ideas of each dish to us and the quality of food is incredible!! The wagyu was cooked to the exact very point. The fish of the day changes every time we went there but just keeps to be impressive. Btw we highly recommend the tempura dessert as well😌

I had a nice and good experience here. It was cold inside, but that's because we were the only ones there on a very cold day, so only 1 record was on. The cook was excellent. He explained the dishes well and was very social. You can have a good conversation with him. I thought the Momiji menu we took was on the expensive side, but of course we chose that ourselves. The dishes are natural and no MSG is used. All around it was a nice experience especially because of the chef.

Gisteren voor de tweede keer in korte tijd hier gegeten. Wat een aanwinst voor de buurt! Buitengewoon goed eten dat is bereid met liefde, aandacht en super verse producten. Bij elk gerecht werd er uitgebreid toelichting gegeven. Ook goed om te weten dat de chef rekening hield met mijn gluten- en lactosevrije dieet en ik zelfs met deze beperking zeer veel keuze had uit de menukaart. De sfeer is persoonlijk en heel gezellig. Wij komen hier snel weer terug!

Absolute aanrader! We hebben hier heerlijk gegeten voor mijn verjaardag. De ingrediënten waren van de allerhoogste kwaliteit. De Sensei (chef) is zeer gastvrij en vriendelijk. Een knusse eetgelegenheid waar je gezamenlijk met andere gasten rondom een Teppanyaki plaat wordt gepositioneerd. Alle gerechten waren heerlijk en werden steeds door de buitengewoon gastvrije chef toegelicht. De Wagyu wordt uit Japan ingevlogen en is van de allerbeste kwaliteit die ongeveer op de markt verkrijgbaar is. En dat proef je. Perfect bereid en zonder twijfel het hoogtepunt van een heerlijk diner.

I celebrated my boyfriend's birthday here last week. We ordered Koyo menu. We started by slurping a clean taste refreshing seafood soup, then devouring perfectly cooked scallop. We could see the entire process of chef showing the fresh ingredients and cooking them, from garlics (smell so good) to the actual meals. They put our plates near the chef, so a friendly waiter always brought the cooked meal to our side. They plated every meal nicely, different ceramics made in Japan and garnished it with colorful green onions and sometimes radish to clean our palate. Talking about the food, we had salmon, again perfectly cooked and delicious soy-based sauce, then giant meaty shrimp and beef with bimi (I guess). The shrimp was cooked with a lot of butter and a bit of soy sauce, it was delicious. I personally liked the meat in the head, more savory than the meat in the body. We recommend to have the beef cooked as medium rare, and woah, once you tap the beef on salt and eat it, it was heaven! The beef alone was not that impressive. I think we closed the meal with chicken fried rice and it was an unusual one, but tasty! It was cooked with soy sauce, sesame oil, and toasted sesame seeds. For me who likes cooking and food in general, it was fun to see how every meal was cooked in front of my eyes hahaha. The chef is not talkative, but I think it depends on whether you like to chat or not. We asked him questions, and he answered in a friendly and fun way. So, if you like it to be more quiet dinner, its possible, and if you want it to be more conversational, its also possible. Just start the conversation! To pair the meal, we had wine and my boyfriend ordered a japanese wine, we like them!! It was sweet and special. The owner was also there, greeting us very friendly with warm genuine gesture. What's even more touching, they gave my boyfriend a little birthday cake and small preseco gift. Overall experience, incredible!! Heartwarming and full tummy in a good way! Highly recommended :)

100% Recommend !! It is a bit on the pricey side but if you want to treat yourself or have a special night with your partner/family it is incredible. The food was served with an explanation of everything putting emphasis on the product rather than many modernised teppanyaki restaurants that emphasis their sauces… The chef (Vincent) and waiter (Mahmud) did an amazing job leaving the place with a formal touch of elegance !!

I usually don't write reviews, but this seems to be the only way to say thank you properly, as I'm always speechless when I am there ^^'. Tomodachi is unique and very special. Not only is the food pretty much the best I've ever had in a restaurant, it's prepared in front of our eyes in a way that completely enchants me every time. I can't really describe it, you have to experience it for yourself. I've already was in a few other teppanyaki restaurants, but they are just all miles away from what I get to experience here. Since we discovered this wonderful little restaurant, we always go there once or twice when we are in Amsterdam and it is my favorite place in this city. The food here is prepared with so much love and sense for detail, that is completely overwhelming to me, because the whole experience touches all my senses in such a gentle and wonderful way. My only wish for improvement: It would be great if there was a course menu with meat, fish and vegetables, but without scallops, lobster or other shellfish. Thanks to the entire team at Tomodachi and especially to our chef, who actually fills my heart with happiness just with his unique, loving way of cooking. I can see, feel and taste all the love and respect he has for the ingredients and his work. I have never experienced something so beautiful in any other restaurant and would not have thought it possible. Thank you for these unforgettable evenings, I hope our next visit to Amsterdam will not be too long in coming.

Had the Koya set menu, which is a varied and filling menu I can recommend. We were seated 7 people around one teppan table and the chef handled our 3 different menus perfectly. He even remembered who wanted the meat well done, medium rare and so on. They have a decent wine list if you feel like it. Personally I'd say teppanyaki and wine go soso together.

We had a brillant experience at this small Japanese restaurant. The cook prepares everything freshly in front of you sitting and enjoying his skills. Niet meer, en niet minder, dan 5 sterren. Eten van zeer hoog niveau. Leuk dat de chef veel informatie geeft over de gerechtjes en wijnen. Heel veel kennis in huis. Niet even snel 2 uurtjes eten, maar ze zorgen echt voor een beleving. Wij komen zeker terug!
