Trattoria Italiana City Hall in Binnenstad-Zuid

One of our favorite restaurants! I have to say, though, that the menu has become more limited than it used to be, and the staff, always extremely friendly and knowledgeable, seemed a bit disinterested and under-trained last time. I hope the quality doesn't drop.

After a 33-minute wait, we finally got the orange juice and hot chocolate milk. The juice was in a mini glass, and the chocolate milk was lukewarm to cold. I pointed this out, and the response was, "Wasn't it tasty?" And just had to pay the full price of €10.

Great staff, friendly. Unfortunately, there's no choice if you're a plant-based diet. Only pasta with (quite spicy) arrabiata sauce and a few mini asparagus pieces, or a pizza without cheese. Not recommended if you're a plant-based diet.

We used to have the most delicious pizzas here, ones so big they couldn't fit on your plate. Now you get a mini pizza that's 50% crust?! And it's nowhere near as good. Who thinks this is a good idea?? Still hungry after eating. Please bring back the old pizzas!!

Such a shame! Tonight we had the pizza we always came for because it was the best in Leiden. What a shame! We ordered Pizza Quattro Formaggi and, for the first time in years, received a super soft pizza with undercooked dough and overbaked (burned). After reporting it to the staff (very nice, by the way), who passed it on to the chef, we were told that they'd been making Neapolitan pizza for a month, which is how it should be. What nonsense! If you're looking for a pizza with raw ravioli and tomato sauce, come here. But I left the table hungry and unhappy. All the waiters were friendly and helpful. We expect the same level of deliciousness from the food.

The coffee and hot chocolate weren't quite cold yet, but they weren't exactly ideal for warming up. We ordered our food at the same time, but one of us got it after 20 minutes, while another had to wait 40 minutes. Then all we heard was, "It was busy and we weren't staffed enough."

Very good Italian restaurant. Delicious dishes, good pizzas. Six of us had a wonderful, relaxed meal here.

We had dinner tonight for two. The starter was delicious, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was good. My main course, braised beef shank, was fine, but way too salty. My girlfriend's main course was pasta with truffle. It was really too salty and not tasty. They made new pasta at our request. This pasta was also very salty and was not eaten. The waitress mentioned that several people had complained. When we paid, we expected a little more understanding. Unfortunately, there was no compensation. All in all, a good atmosphere, mediocre service, and not a good meal. Definitely not worth €114. €6.60 for a bottle of water with dinner is also quite excessive.

The food tasted fine. However, the portions were still too small. We had to eat something at home because we were still hungry, even though we paid around €140 for two people. The small portions also make the price relatively high. The service was mediocre. We weren't invited; we had to ask for everything ourselves. It's a shame, because this place really has potential! The location and ambiance are great!

Great place! A well-organized, clear menu with something for everyone. The bistecca and swordfish were delicious! The service is efficient, friendly, and helpful. The atmosphere is pleasant! The new tableware is lovely, and the various spaces have been updated, which feels very inviting. Highly recommended!

We went there on a random Sunday afternoon for a quick lunch because we had to pick up a child. While the food was truly excellent, the service loses out. Friendly, sure, but everything just takes a long time.

Didn't have any food so unable to speak to that. Drinks were fine. Service was mediocre. Nachos bowl took 40 mins to serve, despite the fact that there only 4 tables needed serving (it was Tuesday night). For some reason we were told that the whole terrace was uanavalbie, despite nice weather. Location is the strong suit of the place.

Love this place! Amazing food and a great atmosphere. I highly recommend it if you have time to spend an afternoon just chatting and enjoying good food and wine. My fiancé and I enjoy this place so much!

The pizza itself was fine, though the crust was a bit black. My son's pasta was gone in three bites 😂. The non-alcoholic Spritz was more ice than liquor, making it taste like water. Such a shame! The music was very loud. It's a good thing the kitchen was open late!

Delicious pizza on a nice tertas!

The food was just okay. We had all our food from order 5, and order 6 had to wait so long that we had to ask for it. Oh yeah, it's coming (forgot it!), and they didn't greet us with an apology or anything. The menu wasn't very extensive. The prices are good.

We had a delicious meal and were well served.

The dishes are delicious, and I commend them for that, but the portions are too small. We had to order some more because we were still hungry after our first main courses. It's also a nice, cozy place. Because it's so busy, the staff isn't easy to reach, but they do come around eventually. The restaurant's decor is very chic, but the restrooms could be a bit cleaner. The price-to-portion ratio could be better, and it's definitely worth eating there!

Today it's Leiden, we find the "mecadillo", very cool to walk through the stalls, to see the different types of food they offer

It's not what it used to be. Pizza dough is pre-made from the freezer, not freshly made, and the limoncello cake comes straight from the Sligro freezer. It's a real shame; we used to love coming here.

Please do yourself a favor and save your time & money to come here! We only spent one day in Leiden and I wished we would have chosen another spot for dinner as there seem to be lots of lovely restaurants in Leiden… This place has a convenient location right in the city center but that’s where it ends with positive things to say about this restaurant. We were one of the first guests for dinner but had to wait close to an hour for our Pasta dishes. The food itself was super mediocre, lacked in taste and was not worth the price. The seafood linguine was 24 EUR and had 3 mussels on top, which felt like a complete rip-off. If you feel like Italian food, better try other smaller (and more genuine) Italian restaurants in the city instead.

Het duurde erg lang voor we bediend werden, hoewel het niet druk was. We hadden sterk de indruk dat we werden genegeerd door het personeel. Toen we uiteindelijk werden bediend was het personeel niet vriendelijk.

Lovely sitting on the terrace, with as usual a nice service at the table, a smile, cheerful mood and very hospitable. We started the evening with a delicious Ca Brigiano Pinot Grigio Blush. The starters: carpaccio, stracciatella and gnocchi frittura looked good in terms of presentation and tasted really delicious. The main courses were a bit disappointing this time: Quattro formagga was bland in taste, the tomato sauce unfortunately dominated, rigatonini piccante al Forno could have been a bit more exciting and the diavola con 'nduja piccante e burrata was perfect in terms of taste. We ended the evening with the always fantastic tiramisu and sgrppino, this was made at the table by a lovely young lady. Our host of the evening saw that it was not good and immediately made new ones. Thanks for the nice evening and until next time!!!

I was here half a year ago, I really liked the pizza with pear, I came for it, but it was removed from the menu, other pizzas are completely average, as well as sliced ​​salmon and meat, the waiters are extremely slow and inattentive. First: you have to wait a long time for the menu, I think it is much more convenient to have the menu on the tables from the start. Second, by the time they take your order, I have already approached them, third, they do not look around, you literally have to wave or turn around with your whole body to be noticed, even when they noticed and said "we will be right there" in the end they forgot to come. Tiramisu is delicious, the rest of the food is so-so, pizza with pear was great, but now it is out of stock. I do not recommend this place.

City Hall scores points for its pretty setting, but that’s where the charm stops. The food is okay—nothing to rave about—and the limited menu doesn’t offer much to explore. Service felt cold and distant, which made the whole experience a bit underwhelming. Not my favorite spot, but if you're just looking for decent food in a nice space, it’ll do.

We had a reservation but arrived a bit early as we were hungry, they seated us straight away with no bother. We ordered the charcuterie board - so delicious, the meat and dips were delicious. So flavoursome. Next we had pizza and pasta - all the dishes had a great flavour. One pizza arrived and it was not quite what we had ordered but they fixed it immediately and even came to check again once it was delivered the second time, that they had got it right! Great service!! We finished off with the sharing dessert plate - great selection, hit the spot. Service was amazing and friendly. Would recommend.

Had to wait 1.5 hours for our food to eat a tough €25 steak and had to pay another euro to pee. No success……

Pasta was okay, nothing special, sandwich was very small for 14 euros. Expected more. Pizza was a better portion for 17 euros. The sandwich was also just a topping in a (small) pizza base. No sandwich as the menu indicates. Took a very long time for the food to arrive at lunch.

We accidentally ordered a pizza with an ingredient we don’t eat, and the staff kindly replaced it quickly—without even charging us for the first one. Terrible food — this is NOT Italian. I go to a restaurant for the food — everything else is secondary. And the food here? Absolutely terrible. We ordered a pasta dish that came with peanuts, dried tomatoes, and some kind of brown sauce. It was bland overall, with the occasional sharp, unpleasant bite from the dried tomatoes. Hands down, one of the worst pastas I’ve ever had — and calling this “Italian” is almost insulting.

The shrimp was severely overcooked, and the rice was overdone as well, which made the overall texture and taste quite disappointing. However, the service was excellent and very attentive.

Just eating a pizza/pasta at City Hall with the five of us. But with a bill of €230. Of course I drank some wine and a few beers. The prices are absurdly high. A red wine €8. Affligem blond €6.50. Rosé €7. search🙃Already read the same review about the 4 cheese pizza 10 months ago. So nothing has changed. Sgroppino €10,. Ricotta dessert €11.50.. This is going crazy with the prices for drinks. It must be inflation or Ukraine. It is said that everything is becoming more expensive. I hope that many people will stay away, then they will automatically cut their fingers. Pasta also has little on your plate, and that for €24.50. I'll make something tasty at home with a glass of wine. Not for me anymore.

What a gem 💎, we were just walking around Leiden and found this restaurant within the town hall of Leiden. The service started good at the beginning, the guy who received us really did his best to find and make us a table. Directly we were approached by another server who asked for drinks. We ordered our drinks, food etc. The server was so friendly we were so pleased with him! At the end of the evening we complemented him. We had a very nice dining experience there! Thank you✨🤩

Nice location in Leiden. Restaurant looks neat. Staff were very friendly. The name and the menu suggest that this is a real Italian restaurant. We ordered a focaccia and a salad (FOCACCIA CON CARPACCIO DI MANZO E TARTUFO and the INSALATA CAPRESE). The order was served quickly and the focaccia looked nice. A bit standard and not what you would expect from an Italian, but reasonable to good. The salad, however, was sad and unimaginative. Some pieces of mozzarella, greens and tomatoes. Sprinkle some oil over it and you're done. The tomato was not even cut evenly and the salad was poorly seasoned. For lunch really below par. Especially if you also charge 15 euros for it. All in all, a sad experience where you can put the same or probably better food on the table at home for a few euros.

Nagenoeg in het stadhuis gelegen restaurant voor lunch en diner, gericht op de Italiaanse keuken. Correcte en vriendelijke ontvangst. Ruime kaart, wij hadden de foccacia met een glas wijn voor lunch. De limoncellotaart is lekker als nagerecht. Prijzen zijn redelijk. Toiletten zijn schoon. Prima plek met uitzicht over de Nieuwe Rijn. Kom graag nog eens terug.

Gezellig restaurant met goed personeel! Leuke verrassende kaart en onze pizza’s waren heerlijk! Maar gelet op de prijs, 17 en 19 euro lag er wel heel erg weinig op de pizza! De diavola , daar lagen een paar stukjes pittige worst op, helemaal fijngeprakt en bij de pizza gorgonzola lag er welgeteld 2 stukjes walnoten op en te weinig gorgonzola. Nogmaals, het smaakte prima maar de prijs kwaliteit verhouding was minimaal.

City Hall in Leiden is highly recommended for a delicious lunch! The atmosphere is cozy and the service excellent. The risotto al tartufo with real truffle was a particular highlight – perfectly flavored and a real treat. We will definitely come back here!

On a "cold" Saturday morning a warm espresso, also thanks to hostess Fabienne. As it should be (Italian).

Mediocre experience. Within half an hour we had both the starter and main course. Felt very rushed. Starter was tasty (carpaccio - burrata with butternut squash and pesto). Main course (linguine gamberetti). This one was bad. Pasta lumpy and not completely cooked, tasteless, prawns in my opinion not completely fresh and very tough. Staff was friendly.

Pasta was delicious and atmosphere is also great. You can choose here when you visit Leiden.. Thanks for the great dinner.

Had a nice drink today. When the bill came, a glass of lemonade with tap water for children cost no less than €3.50 per glass. Wasn't mentioned on the drinks menu, so that's a bit of a shock with 4 children!

I would have liked to give a higher review, but unfortunately the service is really lacking. The starter was delicious and definitely recommended and the waitress was also very friendly. But then the pasta with shrimp was really not tasty. The shrimp were very well done. I passed this on and within 5 minutes I received a new paste. Unfortunately again with shrimp that were really well done. Surely a decent chef knows how to fry shrimp, and doesn't he pay attention to that, especially after a complaint? Or does the chef not like it himself? I left the second plate and told the waitress again that it was not to my liking. In terms of service, it would be a nice concession to take one or two drinks off the bill, but unfortunately that was not done. All in all, it costs a lot of money for a bad pasta. For me, that side of the service is a reason not to try this restaurant again.

De ontvangst was slordig. We worden niet begroet. De bediening was niet vriendelijk, eerder zakelijk. Het eten was lekker, maar erg duur voor wat je krijgt. €75 voor een pizza, twee niet al te grote focaccia’s en salade waarin de fetakaas ontbrak.

We had high expectations for Trattoria Italiana City Hall, but unfortunately it was disappointing. The food was not as we had hoped. The pasta was not tasty, very dry and a strange taste, I didn't even eat half of it. The pizza was fine, but nothing special – not the best we've ever had. The table where we sat was quite small, so I didn't really sit comfortably. As far as service goes, it was decent. The food came quickly, but when we wanted to pay it took a really long time before we were helped. We had hoped for a pleasant experience, but unfortunately it was nothing more than a main course and that was it. The atmosphere was otherwise okay, but not special enough to save the experience. All in all, it wasn't really the experience we had hoped for.

Attractive restaurant, nice surroundings. Menu sufficient choice with tasty pizza, pasta and meat/fish dishes. As a starter a nicely filled plank. Tasty and varied. The main course was very tasty with the very tasty saltimbocca di pollo, tortelloni and pasta pollo. Service friendly, but very slow. Drinks take a very long time. Overall good experience, great place to come back.

A disappointing experience with this restaurant unfortunately. Placed at a (too) small high table next to a large (noisy) group. Confusion about the menu. The lady serving was unable to provide any explanation. After a mild espresso martini and the cocktail of the month, the mixed antipasti was brought with a friendly explanation. Excellent dishes, glass of nero davola, all right. Then a long wait for the main courses. Which were then placed on the table lukewarm. Sent the food back after two bites. This had nothing to do with fresh, a la minute Italian food. Correct response from the staff, the main meal was not charged and the promise that they would 'make it right' next time did not really make up for the disappointment with this restaurant.

Always a pleasure to have dinner here. Special kinds of pizza (however sometimes more cheese would be desirable) and good service.
