A pricey place, but that's really all there is to the Zaanse Schans. The service was cheerful, the cappuccino was good, the pastries were delicious, and they even served a liqueur.

Had cheese sandwich, the bread was good, the sandwich was overall fair. Extremely overpriced. Service is OK, the waitress was not very friendly . Definitely a tourist trap in a very touristic area that looks more like Disney than an authentic village.

Nice restaurant with terrace. We had only coffee here, and we got a small shot of their alcohol for free, that was lovely and tasty. Service was also nice.

Overpriced frozen (and reheated) apple pie and chocolate cake. Cappuccino was terrible. Tourist trap unfortunately. They gave complementary whipped cream with some kind of alcohol underneath but never explained what it was so we just left it. Wouldn't recommend it.

The restaurant with the best atmosphere in all of Zaanse Schans. This is thanks to its very friendly and welcoming service, especially Jayden and Adele, who are very patient with children and highly professional waiters.

They seated us right away without a reservation; there's plenty of room. It's a very nice place, but the prices are definitely too high. They don't have tap water, and 250 ml of still water costs €4.40. €9 sandwiches can easily be made for 50 cents with higher-quality supermarket ingredients. The service is still very good, but you can't pay two separate bills with your card. I recommend getting sandwiches at the supermarket in Amsterdam and bringing them back to eat in Zaanse Schans.

NEVER in my life have I been so ripped off. If I could travel back in time, I would stop myself from going to that place. My time was wasted! I was humiliated and psychologically tortured. The health department should also take a look there. Anyone who wants to ruin their vacation and never be happy again is welcome to visit this place! Among other things, it's far too expensive, even for a tourist spot. I was treated with no respect; it's simply unacceptable!!!

Located near some popular tourist shops, I thought it was a typical small restaurant from the outside, but after entering the door, I found out that there was something else, and this mystery might be the essence of the shop. Two-headed Phoenix (English translation of the Dutch name) was actually a distillery in Zaanse Schans. I checked the Internet and it seems that it is still in operation. However, when I visited this time, there seemed to be no one to greet and no customers in the tasting room and distilling room. I wonder if I need to make an additional reservation or it is no longer in operation? Anyway, this visit was originally just to find a light meal to fill my stomach. The simple meatless cheese sandwich and soup ordered from what later seemed to be the "side business" of Two-headed Phoenix were more delicious than expected. Both were fresh ingredients, not over-seasoned, and the flavor was refreshing but not boring. In particular, the vegetables in the soup tasted some extra aroma in addition to being fresh, which was a big surprise. Looking at Google reviews, it seems that many people have reservations about the restaurant, but this visit felt good. The environment is partly wooden, and the decoration style is friendly, which is also good. Overall, it can be considered as a simple option to fill your stomach at noon in the Windmill Village. If there are distilling and tasting related experiences, it will surely be more exciting.

Very bad practice to make toilets paid to your clients.

This is a restaurant I stopped by when I came to the windmill village. It was very delicious! The sandwiches, vegetable soup, and wine were all perfect. The atmosphere was also the best! (Local Dutch feel!) However, the reason I deducted 1 star for the service is that there is no bathroom in the restaurant. You have to go to the right and pay 1 euro to use the bathroom. Still, the food and wine were so delicious that I want to come back to this restaurant. The atmosphere is good and the staff is friendly. 😆 The wine is in my opinion 1st place: sweet wine / 2nd place: dry wine / 2.5th place: rose wine / 3rd place: red wine. The wines do not have a strong aftertaste, so they are easy to drink!

There is no sink. Order is missing. Employees work in a "let's go" mode. No biscuits came with the coffee.

Must be carefully with the advertising outside the restaurant. They tell you there is a sandwich and soup option from €12, but the waitress didn't explain you the basic sandwich are from that price. I order the €12 option and she tell me I can choose any one. At the end they charged a more expensive one.

I think 11€ for a soft sandwich with a slice of ham, a slice of tomato and two lettuce leaves is completely excessive.

It is a good choice to seat and enjoy their delicious pancakes. I liked their food, and more than that, I really liked the atmosphere and beatiful scene from the windows.

Personale veramente molto gentile e disponibile. Locale molto, molto carino. Panini grandi e buoni, torte da leccarsi i baffi e distillati molto buoni. Prezzi onesti, specialmente visto il posto turistico dove si trovano.

🌟 Small restaurant Located in the windmill village of Zaan Schan, the shop has plenty of seating. There was a staff member who came to take our orders and recommend the menu to us very well. 🌟 We ordered the salmon sandwich served with soup. The staff recommended coffee with liquor for us to try. But my husband has never drank before. It may not be very palatable. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn't have many other menu options for us to choose from. ✅ We asked for a bathroom. The store said there was no service. Had to go outside and find the cold weather. It was almost bad😅

You have to pay to use the bathroom, even if you consume, they don't give you a glass of water after your coffee, they sell you the bottle.

As a coach driver, I came to the Zaanse Schans every week, and sometimes you give an opportunity a second chance. Unfortunately no success. Very expensive dry rolls. A tourist will never come back, otherwise they would never exist anymore. Classic tourist trap.

As soon as you walk in, the staff starts directing you where you can or cannot sit. The coffee is 'with house liqueur', which is also allowed for 5 euros for a cup of coffee from the machine. The lighting and appearance is very dark and it is not very warm either. There doesn't seem to be a toilet either. Classic tourist trap.

It is recommended to take the apple pie with the coffee - excellent!

it took 10minutes to get menu, and another 10minutes for order. almost every server ignore asian.(Only those who came later than me took the order first and asked for it several times, but it didn't come)

Small restaurant in a tourist hotspot. Got two large beers and a cheese plate. Beers were fine, cold and refreshing. Cheese plate was okay - just two cheeses (one soft and one older) with a side of mustard. The cheeses were okay, nothing too great. But they charge 3.50€ for a side of bread. I thought okay, we're in Netherlands, the bread must be good and fresh. No, it's two slices of bread you buy for sandwiches from the grocery store (think Wonder Bread in the US). Sandwiches also did not look very good. Get some drinks here and skip the food.

After a tour of the mill area the children were hungry and we looked for a place to eat something. When we went with children we chose this restaurant over the other one because of the table service. When we arrived at the table and saw the letter we were surprised by the lack of choices. We thought that since it was a cold sandwich it would be quick. Nothing beyond reality. The drinks arrived more or less quickly, but the 3 sandwiches took forever. Furthermore, the toilets were "broken" and they sent you to the restaurant next door, and they sent you to the public ones where you had to pay €1. Regarding the food, approved and that's it. The bread is big, but for my taste a lot of sauce and little filling. If I went back, I would look for another option.

Snack break in a calm and pleasant setting. We had a hot drink with the chocolate cake which was very good! The menu seemed quite varied. The service was not very fast but the staff met all our expectations.

Service okay but bad sandwich. They call it cornbread. Not tasty, no taste, much too thick. And the tuna salad mainly sauce. Without taste. The lettuce leaf was old. Coffee was also lukewarm. Waste of money. Never eat here again.

Relaxing environment for a good break after a nice walk. Small menu, but enough to satiate a not too capricious appetite. Simple sandwiches, with more protein choices. I really appreciated the coffee with the typical liqueur and cream that they offer alongside.

We ate here by mistake. We were trying to go to Restaurant De Kraai, the pancake shop, but accidentally went in here instead. They serve a very limited menu. I had the ham sandwich. The bread was delicious, and I really liked the honey mustard mayonnaise. However, it wasn’t super filling, and I wish it came with a side other than soup. The service was extremely slow. We waited forever for them to take our order and then forever for them to let us pay. For the limited menu and poor service, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

No customer toilet. When asked, a waiter directed me to a €1 public toilet outside. I pointed out the cost to him thinking that customers might not pay (common practice in the Netherlands from what I can tell). He defensively muttered under his breath; “we have to pay, too,” as if he was annoyed with this complaint from customers. As far as I’m concerned, if you serve food you should provide a toilet. Not charge people to use one next door. Sandwich and soup was nice but nothing extraordinary. Tea came with a shot of house liquor which was a nice addition. Overall, I recommend going to the museum cafe nearby. They serve food and drink with ample seating and they provide a barcode on the receipt which can be used to access their toilet for free as often as you want throughout the day.

Friendly staff, they offered us a taste of cognac and whipped cream which was really appreciated. Their chocolatemilk and African Dream rooibos flavored tea are very good

Nice ambience but wouldn’t go back again. Asked for the bill which waitress acknowledged, but waited quite long for the bill as she forgot. Had to go up to counter to ask again. Also, no toilet for a restaurant. Was directed to public toilet outside (€1) wouldn’t recommend.

Se in coppia, consigliamo di prendere due taglieri di salumi e uno di formaggi, con l'aggiunta del pane da toast. Non ci sono molte scelte vicino ai mulini a vento ma questa sarebbe un ottimo chiosco a prescindere. Il personale è cordiale e molto gentile. Ci hanno saputo consigliare al meglio quale birra e quali piatti scegliere. Hanno anche una distilleria annessa, per un souvenir alcolico da Zaanse.

Staff incredibly friendly. Don't eat the sandwich. Very thick bread, with 1 slice of cheese, half a slice of tomato, half an onion ring and no sauce. The toilet is on the corner of the restaurant and you have to pay by card. I didn't have a pass with me so toilet was not possible. Service was good, but will never go back to eat there

They refused to give us tap water, so i had to buy their water instead. The sandwiches are good but the chicken is a little disappointing as it’s just sliced deli meat style. Nice decor and general environment though.

The ambiance in this restaurant is good. It's a pitty that the quality of the sandwiches are poor, while the prices for the food and drinks are average. We (4p) choose differant sandwiches. More or less all the same.

Had a gin tasting of 3 for €5.75 and chocolate pie. Gin was really good and the chocolate pie is good but wished it the same price as the others!

Nice environment of the town. Great outdoor seating. That’s about it for this place. We ordered the chicken sandwich - which was basically bread with ONE slice of deli meat chicken - so a bread sandwich. Think of a sandwich you are fed in prison…so with a dry sandwich of basically just bread - we needed to hydrate. We were told we could not drink our water bottles - that we had to buy a drink. I guess prison like isn’t too far off. The sandwich was so dry and bland, we deconstructed it to eat the one piece of chicken and the one piece of lettuce. The picture shows how much bread was left. AVOID this place during your visit.

Rude staff and a rip off: - 27 euro for a few buns, slice of cheese, and vegetable broth - Make you pay extra to use their washroom (while serving you drinks). We weren’t even able to wash our hands prior to eating without being charged. - Clearly tried to overcharge a few euros, and then acted like it was the ‘wrong table’ Do yourself a favour. Preserve your Zaanse schans experience by going to a more pleasant place to eat / drink closer to the train station.

After having lunch with drink I asked for tap water in a thermus for taking medications later and they denied. In my opinión they were very miserable. Human values should be above profits.

If you order a coke here, you will receive a PET bottle with lukewarm contents, which you can also pick up yourself. What can I say... typical tourist trap, nice location but otherwise worthless.

Literally the worst coffee ever.

The place is quite big. We tried the kopstoot here which was great on a warm sunny day. They make their own jenever and we were told about how to drink the jenever by the staff here.

Stopped in for some coffee whilst on a local tour. The coffee was great and the shot of alcohol with cream was even better, which was served complementary with our order. We also had chocolate cake was gorgeous. Highly recommend!

I’m really surprised by some of the reviews here. This is a family owned business and everyone was so nice to us! The owner was chatting with us about the history of the distillery. We ordered soup and sandwiches and I’m not sure where they get the bread from but it was the softest bread! (Please ship me some 😂) The dutch vegetable soup was perfect for the chilly rainy day we visited too. I also bought their small batch Jenever at duty free at Schipol!

Beautiful place with terrace and delicious products! I recommend a liqueur tasting. My favorite is the Polder walk. Always cosy. Whether it's for a coffee, a sandwich, or a nice beer.

Nice old restaurant, I ordered a coffee and a sandwich with young cheese and I got a free traditional liquor which was very good. Praise to the staff because I came before the kitchen opened and the waiter told me I had to wait for my sandwich, but they still served it early. :)

Mediocre sandwich. It's huge. Definitely 1 sandwich can feed 2 people. For the price, there's 1 thin piece of meat. The sauce and bread are good though. Plenty of lettuce and barely any tomato. They definitely skimp on the sandwich fillings. The Chocolate pie was delicious. Really really good. Can also share as it's a large piece. We took out our metal water bottles to drink water. They quickly told us to put them away. I'm an environmental scientist and those practices disgust me! We should NOT be encouraging more waste. More consumerism. More overconsumption. Especially not for the greed of them wanting to sell more.

We had a horrible experience…visited Zaanse-Schans several times before but never been in these cafes…they share terrace with a pancake cafe, we ordered main things for big company (sandwiches are overpriced) here and some pancakes for children in neighborhood. So stuff started to unkindly urging with us that we have to sit with this pancakes somewhere else, however they saw that it was only for children (only kids 2,5,7 y.o had a pancakes, how come they could sit separately???). Pancakes also wasn’t tasty in that place…strongly not recommend to visit both 🤦‍♂️😤👎and they don’t have own wc, only outside and paid toilet. That’s too bad for place like Zaanse Schans to have unfriendly cafes on its territory…even 1 star is a lot for them…

Good cafe. The menu is small. We ordered soup in a complex with one of the types of sandwiches. Beer is probably the tastiest that I have tried in my life (see the photo). Of the 4 types of desserts, I liked the buttercake the most, which is made according to the same recipe as 165 years ago

A cozy terrace and a cozy room in the Zaanse style, including a liquor store with home-brewed drinks. Definitely worth a visit if you want to experience something that has been distilled with experience.

Four free tables outside, they made us sit indoors despite the beautiful day (which is more unique than rare). We end up ordering five beers, two pilsners and three wheat 0.5l, we are brought five beers, all pilsners and three small ones.

Uncle dog but if I ask you for three whithe beers of 0.5 and 2 pilsner beers of 0.5 you can't bring me 5 beers all the same, two of 0.5 and 3 small ones
