We had a wonderful meal with a group of people for one of our birthdays. We had a three-course meal with fish and meat for most of us, and a vegetarian option for myself. All the appetizers were unique, delicious, and beautifully presented. I also thought the tea pairing was a great success and I highly recommend it.

Three of us visited the restaurant this evening. Overall, we enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Most of the staff were genuinely kind and attentive, and the staff inside were especially helpful and friendly. However, an incident at the entrance unfortunately dampened our spirits. A tall, overweight male employee (I don't know if he was a manager) greeted us at the door and was quite rude. He answered our questions without looking at us and avoided any communication while guiding us. This behavior was completely incompatible with the overall quality of the restaurant. Nevertheless, thanks to the attentiveness and kindness of the other staff members, our evening was pleasant. I hope this feedback will lead to improvements in the way guests are greeted at the entrance.

We had a delicious meal. It's just a shame they made us pay for the deluxe menu, even though we opted for the standard menu.

What an overrated place! The sushi wasn't even good; it fell apart and tasted like it had been made a few hours ago. The staff is also mediocre; they don't tell you what you're getting. I don't understand the hype. It just didn't taste fresh.

The food here is absolutely delicious, and the service is excellent! I’ve been here several times, and every single visit has been wonderful. I highly recommend the salmon — it’s my favorite. I brought my friends here for a gathering this time, and they were very satisfied as well. A truly fantastic restaurant!

Really good quality and there’s no way you’d finish the all you can eat

While we were eating, a cat walked across the kitchen countertop. I want to emphasize that this is an absolute no-go for me. A kitchen must always be clean and hygienic. Cats roam outdoors, come into contact with all kinds of vermin and bacteria, and should therefore never be allowed in a place where food is prepared or served. I honestly wonder what goes on behind the scenes if it's even allowed for a cat to walk across the kitchen countertop.

Food was very disappointing compared to a while ago

I was there a few months ago and I thought it was better then than now. But I don't know why. The taste was a bit different.

The food is delicious, and the sushi quality is top-notch. Everything melts in your mouth!

We ate here tonight, but we nearly got up and left before dinner. One of the staff members was incredibly rude to the guests at the table behind us. He also took almost no time to explain the concept to us, gave us a tablet with a cracked screen, and—visibly frustrated by the argument with the guests behind us—slammed the menu holder down quite hard on our table. Many of the dishes were too spicy. We had to wait a long time for some. The portions were far too large. The sushi wasn't the same size. It was incredibly hot where we were seated (in the basement, tucked away in a corner). The cocktail was far too strong. One of the staff members made us feel guilty that the lemon he had brought with him would be thrown away in a new glass, because we didn't need a new one. The same staff member walked around the restaurant chewing gum. And to top it all off, he asked us—while there was still ice cream on the table—if we'd finished eating, so he could take the soy sauce with him. He blew out the candles on the tables around us, at which point another guest commented. She thought it detracted from the atmosphere and wondered if he wanted them to leave. His response? "Did I tell you to leave? I only work here. I only do what I'm told." We definitely won't be returning to this restaurant again. A terrible experience with staff who blame others!

Rude, ill-mannered, and racist (ironically, because they're also foreigners). I'm giving it less than one star because one is the minimum. As soon as we walked in, they gave us strange looks, but they let us sit down. We let it slide because we were there to eat. We'd just returned from a short trip and had backpacks with us. They'd put us at an extremely small table. My friend asked if we could move to another table, also for two people, but with more space. Without looking at him, I saw from a distance how he rudely told him no, even waving his hands at him. We were already uncomfortable. We said, "It's fine, we'll just sit here." But the last straw was when the same man had to walk behind our table to deliver the bill to another table. He smiled "kindly" at the guys who seemed Dutch, and then looked at us (Spaniards) with disgust, staring us up and down. Obviously we left and didn't eat at such an unpleasant place. So, you know, if you want to eat and spend money in a nasty place, with rude, ill-mannered, and racist people, don't forget to go to this place 😉😉😉😉😉 (I clarify that all this was from the establishment; no customer behaved rudely, it was what appear to be the owners of the place, those who work there).

We ate here last week. The sushi was delicious, as was the wide selection of other dishes. However, it took a very long time for our sushi to arrive. We only received the sushi from round 1 during round 4. The other dishes were served quickly. We complained about it several times, but the person simply said the kitchen was behind schedule. No solution or compensation was offered. Even though the food was delicious, I won't be returning.

I tried this concept once. The food isn't anything special, and you shouldn't expect any service. Everything is just thrown onto the table. Oh well, the kids had fun.

It's fun to visit. Lots of sushi options, but also plenty of meat dishes to choose from. Several dishes were way too spicy for us; unfortunately, this wasn't mentioned. The food, however, was excellent! You order via a tablet; not really my thing, but otherwise, everything went smoothly. It's a shame that a lot of the dishes were broken off. From the outside, you wouldn't expect there to be so much space in the basement. The price I had to pay afterward was quite disappointing, but that's the case everywhere these days...

Incredibly delicious sushi, and the warm dishes are also delicious. The kimchi is also very good. The rice-to-fish ratio is perfect, so you can sample a lot without bursting at the seams. We'll be back. ❤️😁

We arrived late due to traffic. The service was incredibly good and we were able to sit longer. The food was excellent, and so was the staff.

On October 11th, we had a delicious meal at Umami. Upon arrival, we were immediately asked if we wanted the Deluxe menu for an extra 8 euros. I found that a bit odd, considering it's an all-you-can-eat concept (you'd expect everything to be included). We initially opted for the Deluxe option, but the dishes were actually disappointing. Ultimately, we therefore requested to go back to the standard menu. The sushi was all delicious. I definitely recommend the Crispy Chicken Bun! The atmosphere in the basement was a bit disappointing. The young staff was a bit rude and unserious. One order never arrived. The bar was overflowing with glasses. One glass even broke. And finally, it was disappointing that desserts weren't included. Something I think is part of an all-you-can-eat restaurant.

Tonight, my wife and I went to this restaurant for dinner. We've eaten at many all-you-can-eat restaurants in Utrecht, but this one was truly fantastic! We opted for the deluxe menu, which cost an extra six euros, but it was completely worth it. The sashimi was super fresh and delicious, and there was a wide selection of sushi. The lamb chops were especially fantastic! I ordered them four times in a row. Highly recommended!

We ate here last Friday. This was the third time we (the two of us) had been here. On previous visits, we were surprised by the friendly and quick service. This Friday, however, we received nothing of the sort. After waiting briefly at the door, we were greeted rather rudely by a woman. Then we were shown to a table downstairs next to the restroom. After some hesitation from the waiter, it turned out there was a better table, but he gave the impression he was bothering us. After that, we had to wait almost half an hour for the first round of food. All in all, a disappointing experience; we'll go somewhere else next time. I gave the service two stars because, while it was good last time, the food was okay but less fresh than last time. The rudeness of the waiters didn't help the atmosphere.

I called today to ask for a reservation possibility and the guy said it’s full at the time proposed and then I continued asking about other slots and he just hung up out of the blue. Very rude

Umami is literally a 5-minute walk from Utrecht Central Station, which is super convenient because you can head into the city right before or after. I was struck by the sheer variety of choices at Umami, which, as someone from Groningen, I'm not used to. The food was also delicious and especially recommended for the spicy food lovers among us!

Terrible, unfriendly staff: I asked a question in an empty restaurant about a table for lunch, and in response I received a rude grumbling that they only accept reservations.

The food was very good, the staff varied in friendliness, we sat downstairs and it was a sauna to sit there.

A truly terrible experience. I arrived with two assistance dogs. I clearly indicated this beforehand, but they were still refused entry. After a lengthy conversation with the manager (I'm guessing?), they were finally admitted with great difficulty. They were put in a corner somewhere in the back and the dogs were told to behave. I'll just leave aside how they treated us. Bizarre. Never again.

We had a delicious meal at Umami in the center of Utrecht! The service was friendly and very fast. The restaurant is larger than it appears, and they even have a cozy downstairs area! The spicy chicken sushi was our favorite, and the smoked duck salad and Japanese beef are also highly recommended! You can eat all you want for two hours, and the portions are generous!

The all-you-can-eat concept is surprisingly versatile, with many halal options and deliciously fresh sushi. An added bonus: my mother-in-law has a shellfish allergy, and this was carefully considered. The staff actively contributed to her well-being and made sure she enjoyed her meal without any worries. The atmosphere is warm and modern, perfect for a pleasant evening out. Everything tasted refined and was beautifully presented. I celebrated by birthday at Umami and 5 stars are not enough! Arranging everything per email was very easy - super fast response and accommodating all my requests. During the bday lunch everything was perfect - the service so friendly and personalised, they helped with everything incl. refrigerating my cake, getting extra cutlery, serving drinks at the agreed time and giving special treatment to my guest with shellfish allergy - all with a big smile. We could stay and enjoy as long as we wanted and the food was DELICIOUS and with so much choice. We had a great time, highly recommended!

We went here for dinner and chose the deluxe all-you-can-eat concept. Unfortunately, our visit was somewhat disappointing due to the service. The staff seemed unfriendly and brought us the wrong dish. Initially, they insisted that we had ordered it, while in the end, it was simply brought to another table. That didn't leave a pleasant impression. The menu is extensive and diverse, which is definitely a plus. However, it was noticeable that not all the sushi was fresh, especially early in the evening. Later, when more had to be made fresh, the quality was noticeably better. Another drawback: many sushi dishes use a very spicy sauce that isn't listed on the menu, which can be unpleasantly surprising. All in all, the experience was enjoyable and the sushi quite tasty, but the service and the inconsistent quality mean this isn't a restaurant we'll be returning to. There are simply better options available.

I was thinking of eating in Utrecht, but I was very disappointed at this restaurant. The service was terrible, and the iPad I used to order with kept breaking. I had to ask for a new one two or three times. My order never arrived. Everything was rushed... definitely not a good experience at this restaurant. I won't be returning.

The food was delicious. We had a great seat, so no complaints there. We did find the (ladies') restrooms really gross. Of course, that's the customer's fault, but gosh, this was absolutely unacceptable... Luckily, the food made up for a lot.

I went to Umami Utrecht and tried the deluxe menu. The sushi was delicious; the salmon was fresh and the rice was perfectly prepared. I especially liked the salmon tartare and the sashimi, which made it worthwhile for me. Unfortunately, the strawberry mojito was disappointing. The drink had a slight fizz, as if the sparkling water had been open too long. A friendly waitress immediately brought me a new one, which I appreciated, but unfortunately, the replacement tasted the same. That was a disappointment. I also want to mention that the tablets you use to order are a bit outdated. They didn't always work smoothly, which sometimes caused some frustration while ordering. In addition, it was very hot outside that day, and we felt that inside as well. The temperature in the restaurant was high, so it wasn't as pleasantly cool as I'd hoped. All in all, it was a good experience, but I didn't find it particularly special. There is room for improvement, especially regarding drinks, ordering equipment and the indoor climate on hot days.

First time here, with my 90-year-old father among others. Ordering is done via a tablet, which I don't mind, but I can imagine someone 90 might have more trouble with it. There was plenty of choice, and the service was good, though it was a shame dessert wasn't included. We opted for the basic option, which I actually thought was a bit pricey.

Sushi was delicious! Drinks are super expensive (as usual for these type of places) and the place was quite loud. Upstairs it was ridiculously warm, I’m glad we had a spot downstairs.

Always delicious food at Umami. However, the quality of the staff has drastically declined. Food is slammed onto the table as if you're just dropping by a soup kitchen. A friendly smile or "enjoy your meal" is completely out of the question. The manager is the one who carries the brunt of this, a grumpy, surly person.

I've eaten at and photographed many Japanese restaurants. I think this one is the best among its peers at the same price. At least not all meats are served with the same sauce.

Enjoyed our dinner at Umami in Utrecht immensely! We had a choice of 2 different menus, the normal menu and the deluxe, we chose the normal menu and there was enough. The sushi snacks were a bit smaller which was perfect because you could taste so many different things. The staff was very friendly and hospitable and made sure our evening went great.

Normally all you can eat sushi restaurants are a bit meh. Tasty, but just not really high quality. That's why we were really surprised how good it was here. The food was deliciously prepared, and will also just look nice, instead of being slammed on a plate. Will definitely come back here.

The two of us recently had dinner at Umami. The food was delicious and of good quality. The food also arrived fairly quickly, which was great. We had not been to Umami before, so we were given an explanation at the beginning, which was a clear explanation. There were some downsides. For example, we were seated downstairs in the restaurant and it was really hot there. The toilets were also not clean and the service was rude. Apart from that, we had a great meal!

I went yesterday at 5 in the evening and honestly I was really excited to go because it was gonna be my first time in an all you can eat. A waiter guided us to a table downstairs and gave us a tablet to order stuff. After 2 hours of TRYING to eat everything we ordered we couldn't, there was not a single dish that was good they were all bad or mid. The only good thing I actually ate were the fries.After that we went to another asian restaurant to fill our stomachs with actuall good food.

I can get in and at first I thought it looked small-scale. Until you come downstairs, where heaven opens up for you! Super nice canal cellar, decorated with beautiful blossoms. We had a nice table in the cellar, which was beautifully lit. You can order the food via an iPad. You can order 4 pieces per person per round, super nice! My heart has especially fallen for the sushi!! It is delicious here😊😊
