My lovely wife and I ate here today. And I must say that the food and drinks were so good that my wife and I will definitely come back here more often and have decided to bring our future children here as well. Charming owner, I heard he is single, ladies.

We went out for dinner with the family; they managed to accommodate a group of 10 on the day itself, fantastic 💪🏻. Our group also included two small children under the age of 4. They were really spoiled! Extra attention was paid to the toys. We had the delicious 3-course set menu. There was no skimping on portion sizes, which you generally notice at other restaurants. The children only had a main course, but they also brought a cup of soup for them. Now that's what I call real service! The last time I was here, it had a different owner. But you can tell they have worked hard on it since then; they have a great team!

We have traditionally come here for the excellent service and delicious food. Time has probably overtaken us by a long time, because the rubbish you get served now is incredible. I ordered a schnitzel with peppercorn sauce; it was most likely reheated in the microwave, and there wasn't a single chili pepper to be found in the sauce. The crust was soft, the meat tasteless, and the side dishes were abysmal. Now, I understand that everyone has their own taste, but they won't be seeing me back. It's a shame that such a quality establishment has declined so much.

Well, this time it was absolutely terrible... I had pork tenderloin in cream sauce... thick sauce, inedible... there were two of us and we got the smallest bowl of fries... you will never see me back there again... I think this is a real disgrace... they won't keep any customers this way... really rubbish.😡😡😡😡😡😡

A bit outdated, no air conditioning which is a real downside for a modern restaurant. The most important thing is the food, after all, and that was fine this time. The time before that was a bit less so.

The new owners have made a great fresh start. It was the last asparagus weekend, I enjoyed it.

Very cozy atmosphere, food was more than fine, just a small thing between the starter and the main course could have been a bit quicker. But definitely worth repeating.

Visited Van Hal in Voorst after 25 years, with the neighbors. Enjoyed a drink outside and ate inside. The asparagus soup was super tasty with ham. Of course, I went for the half chicken, which is still perfectly tender and delicious. Finished with ice cream, also top-notch. Highly recommended; super friendly service and top quality value for money! 👌

It was a great experience. I ordered asparagus soup, a traditional asparagus dish, and beautiful and tasty desserts. Everything was very tasty, and for the three of us, it was more than enough. I will definitely go back again.

Had a nice meal. Just like old times. Returned again on April 26. The asparagus dishes were fine. The half ham is advertised on the menu with all the trimmings. I have been eating that for 50 years, and the delicious salad with cucumbers that I was looking forward to is no longer included. Peas were not served either, and the fruit salad was gone as well. A real shame. Bell pepper pieces are not my thing. I understand the need for innovation, but then don't advertise the dish as the original. I did get a tasty half ham with fries this time, but it's still a pity. I think it would be simple to fix...... though of course not on the spot, so I just left it at that.

A super cozy restaurant with delicious food and good service.

I went here for Easter brunch for €34.50 per person. I was expecting a nice, extensive buffet. But let's start from the beginning: The parking situation was quite good; there are (at least) two separate parking lots. The reception was generally friendly, but nothing was explained or anything like that. The buffet was very similar to a regular hotel breakfast buffet. The only noteworthy difference was the presence of a few desserts. I expected significantly more from an Easter brunch. For the most part, the ingredients were really cheap. For example, there was very little smoked salmon, and what there was was cross-contamination with some kind of mayonnaise "salads," pickles, and beetroot juice. This unfortunately didn't make a good impression at all. Drinks such as juices, coffee, and tea were included. A coffee pot was placed on the table at the beginning. A staff member then poured tea a short time later. However, the cups were quite small, and the tea was quickly finished. Furthermore, there was no choice of which tea you received. The juices were self-service. I found the frequency of service too low. Several times I had to actively approach/ask the staff for things like more tea. Therefore, while the service was friendly, it wasn't warm or attentive. As a regular breakfast offering, I would find this acceptable, perhaps at a price of €20 per person. But for an "Easter" brunch at €34.50, I honestly feel a bit cheated. The price is completely disproportionate to the service. The restrooms are also in dire need of renovation. I hope the substantial profits from the Easter buffet are being used to renovate the sanitary facilities.

We went out for dinner on Easter Saturday. The food was good and flavorful, served by very friendly, polite, and engaged young staff. Definitely a great addition to this region. Highly recommended, and we will certainly be back.

They come to ask if it's enough, we say we'd like another portion of fries. Do we have to pay an extra 3 euros for that? Bad, and the portion is very small too.

What a wonderful meal at Van Hal! The seating is quiet and spacious, there's no noise (the music is too loud), and the food is absolutely delicious. We had the mixed grill, and the meat was wonderfully tender. And warm vegetables on your plate—where else do you find that? The dessert platter was a lovely way to end the meal. We'd love to return to Van Hal again.

I went there with mixed feelings. The last time was over 20 years ago, and it was far below expectations. Now, with new owners, it exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere, service, and food were fantastic. It will definitely become a regular destination.

Unfortunately, I have to report that we were not satisfied. We went out for dinner here with the family on Christmas Day. We went in with great anticipation because this restaurant had a good reputation from the past. Upon arrival (3:00 PM), it was simply cold, so cold that we kept our coats on for the first half hour. After asking if anything could be done about this, we were told that the restaurant was fully booked and that it would warm up quickly. Well, even after an hour and a half, it was still chilly inside. Then came the three-course menu. Tastes are a matter of taste, but as an amateur chef, I found this truly disgraceful. The price-quality ratio was simply far, far too expensive. Almost €70 per person on average, including our children. I tasted everything to be honest, but the only thing that really tasted good was the steak. Everything else was just not right. Poor combinations, poorly seasoned, and the quality of the ingredients was mediocre. Something that absolutely shouldn't happen during Christmas. For us, this was a one-off.

I ate here with my parents on Boxing Day. After reading the reviews, we were skeptical, but we had a delicious meal! The price-quality ratio is excellent, though perhaps a bit pricey for some. The staff is friendly, and the dishes are served simultaneously. In my opinion, they could have used some nice background music; it was very quiet and you could hear other people's conversations. But otherwise, the atmosphere was good, and the space was nicely decorated.

Always good service and atmosphere

Yesterday, we went out for dinner at Van Hal in Voorst with a group of 16 people. We were last there four years ago and had a great meal back then. Recently, we heard mixed stories about the kitchen, unfortunately not always good. Nevertheless, we made a reservation again because our experience at the time was excellent. Looking back on last night, we had a delicious meal. It looked good, was served well, was hot, and tasted good too. The order was à la carte, and here too, everyone received their food at the same time, which is very nice! "Keep up the good work".

The restaurant has been taken over. Many of the familiar dishes are off the menu. Prices have also gone up. The old familiarity of "eating like grandma's" is gone. It's a shame. But everyone has their own taste.

Celebrating a birthday with 22 people

We were there for dinner on October 3, 2025. We had a soup starter, main course, and drinks. We can highly recommend this restaurant. Excellent service, delicious dishes, and even if you're very hungry, you'll be satisfied. The ambiance is also very pleasant. If you want to eat in a pleasant and pleasant atmosphere, this is a great place to eat. In our opinion, the value for money is very good.

We had a family reunion, and we've been keeping track of it for all three years, thanks to Hal, now with the new owner. They handled it perfectly; there was plenty of room, everything was ready for a cozy get-together, and that was it. Afterwards, we enjoyed Hal's famous half-cockerel with everything else. The food was delicious, and everyone told us so. Thanks to Barry and the staff.

For years, we've enjoyed visiting this restaurant for an excellent half chicken or ribs with side dishes. We've always been very satisfied, especially in the summer when we sit outside in the beautiful beer garden. The delicious ribs haven't been offered for some time, which we find very unfortunate. Today we were there again to recommend the excellent chicken. We were very kindly informed that the fried potatoes as a side dish and the chicken would no longer be prepared the way they used to be. We were excited about that. When the food arrived, we were very surprised at how beautifully everything was presented. Even though I personally didn't like the black plates. White simply represents cleanliness for me. Oh well. The staff was super friendly, and we were able to refill our plates. That's a plus point. I just missed the opportunity to discuss the food afterward, because then this review would have been unnecessary. We were told beforehand that the chicken had apparently been greasy. To us, the chicken was never greasy, but rather juicy and fell off the bone. This, along with the wonderful seasoning, made the chicken so special and delicious. I also think that a dry rooster can never be greasy. That would seem to be more of a problem with the rooster and its feeding. Be that as it may, I could have prepared this dish better at home. It's a real shame. The fried potatoes used to be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. These potatoes now seemed to have been thrown straight from the jar into the pan. That, unfortunately, wasn't anything special. The white side dish in the photo was for two people. Previously, every dish came with a salad plate twice as large. The salad remained the same and tasted great, just like before. Unfortunately, there was far too little. Half the salad and then divide it in half? We want to eat healthy. We always loved the applesauce and canned fruit for dessert. Apart from the beautifully decorated pear on the main course plate, there was unfortunately no fruit left. Not everyone likes a warm, sweet pear with a hearty meal. Summary: Even if the food is beautifully presented, it doesn't satisfy us if the quality suffers. 1 year later: Today, after a year, we gave it another try, because everyone deserves a second chance. It was a huge success. 😄 The chicken was almost as good as before and was served on fresh vegetables with potato gratin. It came with fries or fried potatoes of your choice. The fried potatoes were better than before. 😋 Salad and applesauce. It was once again delicious. ☺️ A good meal doesn't need fancy plates or frills. The main thing is that the food is beautifully presented and tasty. The only drawback is that the portions are unfortunately smaller. The side dishes that used to come with every dish now have to be shared between the two of us. My suggestion would be to offer a regular portion at a surcharge and continue to offer a smaller portion (e.g., for older people) at the same price. ☺️ Please keep it up. 👍🏻

Haangerechten, once Van Hal's favorites, no longer enjoys the owner's affection. It's a top-notch location with a good, veteran waiter. Everything here indicates the new owner is interested in money... not in guests, that other G. Turn it around and you earn money and happiness... and create a captivating picture with your guests, too bad! I expected more!

Delicious food for a fair price!

I've rarely eaten so badly. I'd often heard from people around me that VH wasn't what it used to be. But I couldn't have imagined it being this bad. It used to be a household name. But the new owners, unable and unwilling to see what's needed, don't see what's needed. I ate spareribs, which came straight from the (cheap) butcher. They'd only been microwaved. The so-called fresh herb sauce came from a jar, as did the salad dressing. The fries were ruined by the paprika sprinkled on them. The oven-baked potatoes au gratin were served as a kind of sludge with a black layer. A curious detail: I asked the waiter how long he'd been working there. He replied, "You'd be better off asking, 'How much longer?'" I wish this waiter a good job in a more inspiring environment. How can you ruin a good business? Well, like this.

Van Hal, a restaurant I've known since I was a little kid. A real Achterhoek restaurant. Not too exciting, not super fancy but really good Dutch food. I hadn't been here in 15 years because for me a restaurant has to have more/different than a good Dutch menu. We had a great meal here. I had spareribs. Really good spareribs, not your standard restaurant spareribs. But real tender, not too soft, well-seasoned ribs. Really nicely balanced, and I say that as a BBQ lover. And every BBQ-er knows that if you can make good spareribs yourself, they are always disappointing in restaurants. However, I really don't understand the garlic sauce with it, this is also really the reason for the 4 stars. This seems to be for the "what-the-farmer-doesn't-know-he-doesn't-eat" people. With that greasy sauce the complete taste of the ribs was gone. As a chef I would be angry if I had to deliver this with the spareribs. So this is a tip for the restaurant. The ribs are so good, they don't need sauce or a light sauce that enhances the meat. The location is beautiful, but you don't have a nice view everywhere because the amount of windows is limited and the vegetation is a lot around the restaurant. It is also a bit dark inside for my taste.

Nice place to have a bite to eat. The weather was nice so we could sit outside. The staff is nice and takes the time for you. We didn't have to wait long for our food even though it was quite busy. The food was also tasty and certainly enough to last the rest of the afternoon. If I'm in the area again I would visit this place again.

We had dinner at Van Hal again after a long time. We loved that there was a lot of space at the round table. Even with the tall people in our family. We were helped quickly and a drink was on the table within 3 minutes. We were also able to clearly choose something from the menu. The food came quickly, and we especially liked the courgette. Crispy and tasty. Delicious. The chosen menus were extensive and tasty. Van Hal is definitely something to go to again. Because of the extensive meal, we did not order any desserts but ended with a coffee. What was nice is that our choice, no soup, no dessert, did not cause any 'fuss'. This was dealt with in a relaxed manner. It was also nice for us that we were also helped in dialect. This makes the atmosphere extra pleasant for us.

Unfortunately, this is no longer the way it used to be, drinks are delivered to your hand and the tray is no longer used, the spareribs were ready-made from a package and not prepared yourself as it always was. Staff friendly but not professional ... "who had half a liter of BEER?" the waiter shouted with his hand clutching the glass as if the waiter was going to drink it himself. Very unfortunate, both by email and on the spot indicated that we were dissatisfied, unfortunately no response / recognition in what we gave as feedback. For us a reason not to go anymore. Pity!

The two of us enjoyed a delicious schnitzel menu each. Ratio of price - quality - quantity is very well balanced. The restaurant is in a beautiful rural location and on the edge of a wooded area. Cozy and supposedly warm atmosphere. Tables are well spaced apart. Friendly and smooth service. Ample parking. Clean and well-maintained toilets. In short: plenty of reasons to come back!

It wasn't expensive for what we paid. You could pick up as often as you wanted. including drinks. even made a separate buffet for the children. Great that Santa Claus came to bring a present for the children. The coloring book with crayons was also a good idea. It's nice that the children were taken into account. worth repeating.

What an unpleasant mess. Everything had already been used up or completely scrapped by the predecessors. Much was empty and minimal refilling. Scandalous for the money. Unsociable. Just convert a pigsty into a Christmas buffet and mess with the cold dish. We will never go there again. It was like a tent full of Vikings, what a mess.
