Really good old-fashioned bread, hmmmm. It's just a shame the young lady didn't distribute the bread properly. Bread is expensive these days, and if you pay for half a loaf, you want to get it, not less.

I wish I could give it 10 stars! I was incredibly well looked after by the lovely ladies (thanks, Mariska!) at Van Kempen bakery. I wanted a gender reveal cake, and I had other specific requests, all of which they were able to fulfill on time, all for a fixed price. It turned out beautifully and delicious! Just like I've come to expect from Van Kempen. Fantastic!

This is a real bakery 🥰. Sadly, there aren't many of them left. Delicious bread, pastries, from croissants to muesli rolls, and other treats. Friendly ladies and a nice place to be!

'De Kooi' is a neighborhood in Leiden with which I have a love-hate relationship. De Kooi does not have the best reputation within the Leiden community and I would never want to live there myself, but the neighborhood also has a number of aspects that do appeal to me. I once came there for the first time in the early 1980s, for example at my housing association, a good friend stayed there for a while in the Borneostraat and she opened her house to a very French family with 5 children who were friends with me, my GP. was there, the swimming pool was there and so on. The most striking thing in the neighborhood is the language that is virtually incomprehensible to an outsider. On the spot, before starting to utter a word, I really don't know why, first the tongue is pulled back completely to the back of the throat, creating a kind of one-sided sonorous dissonance that sounds as if the frenulum has been completely cut off. Perhaps this use of language dates back to the time of the Spanish occupation? ;) After all, they weren't 'sweethearts'. Although I don't feel at home there at all, the neighborhood continues to attract me every time and that is purely because there is something familiar for the taking on the streets. For example, when my partner became seriously ill and was in the AZL for a life-saving operation, AZL yes... and not the hideous LUMC..., I was 'taken care of' there in the De Kooi community center as a second child, even though I , immediately visible to everyone of course, did not come from the neighborhood at all. The food in the community center was cheap and when I don't have to cook myself I eat everything so that was a good match, although due to the extremely high fat percentages I had to endure the acid every evening and sometimes even until the morning.. . How different is it all with this fantastic 'The real Bakker'... There is a sweetheart of a lady behind the counter, unfortunately also equipped with the deformed rolling Leiden 'r', but in this case that is a detail and actually even a striking fact that actually provides the visitor with a certain added value. Moreover, she is genuinely interested in every customer, she has a free and open eye, she has a lot of fun in her work, she knows you by name very quickly and so on, really. It is truly a treat to step inside. And then the quality of the bread that is sold there... not normal anymore people... That really couldn't be better: the bread is baked hyper-constantly, wonderfully fragrant and has a taste... wow. The raisins, for example, how on earth do they manage something like that there, I sometimes think when I walk outside again. It's actually a candy store.

Excellent bread and pastries. I no longer get luxury sandwiches such as ham/cheese croissant, etc. here. I got this here sometimes, nice for on the road I thought. Unfortunately, it's always frozen on the inside... at a bakery I expect fresh whatever you pay for and not rolls from the freezer... at the supermarket they are fresh and a lot cheaper. Update: 06-05-2023 Still excellent bread and tasty tompouce. I thought about trying some cheese sticks. Not to eat! They were so stale and therefore tough that they were impossible to remove. Expensive cheese sticks, they were ripe for the trash and that's where they ended up. Given my previous message regarding luxury sandwiches and that I get delicious fresh regular bread here a few times a week, the conclusion is that regular bread is delivered every day, luxury sandwiches remain until they are used up before new ones arrive. Regular bread is fresh every day, but it is better to only get luxury rolls here on Mondays when they are fresh. I also took off 1 star because the cheese sticks were scandalously old for a REAL baker", shameless that a baker dares to sell this!

Fijne bakker vriendelijke dames.lekker brood

Zeer goede bakker. Leuk personeel en super vers en lekker brood. Om maar te zwijgen van alle lekkernijen!

Heerlijk volkorenbrood. Verder uitgebreid en kwaliteit perfect traditioneel gebak. Kersenflappen om je vingers bij op eten en tompoezen en moorkoppen van hetzelfde. Slecht voor de lijn om daar met een lege maag naar binnen te gaan. Klantvriendelijkheid staat hoog in het vaandel.

Vriendelijk personeel. Leuke sfeer. Goede kwaliteit brood.

Lekker knapperig brood. Veel lekkerder dan in de supermarkt. Ik vries het wel vers in en haal steeds uit de vriezer wat ik nodig heb. Zo heb je altijd vers brood. Gebak en taart is ook lekker. Ik ben vooral gek op de ronde kaas croissants. De roomhoorntjes zijn ook heerlijk maar jammer dat deze niet altijd knapperig zijn.

Goede bakker met uitstekend brood. Uiteraard wat duurder dan bij de grootgrutter maar daar krijg je dan ook veel voor terug.

Ouderwets lekker, luchtig en vers gebak. Niet te zoet, niet te zwaar en consistente kwaliteit.

Ik heb een kop koffie gedronken. Vriendelijk personeel en prima koffie.

Prima bakker, erg goed brood, verder niet heel uitgebreid assortiment, maar wat ze hebben is goed.

Prima brood. Helaas zijn de openingstijden beperkt. Ik ging hier een jaar geleden altijd brood kopen als ik een rondje over de Singels fietste voor aanvang van de werkdag. Helaas gaan ze tegenwoordig niet meer open om 8 uur maar om half negen. Ook om 1 uur gaan ze een half uur dicht. En tegen lunchtijd is het meeste brood al uitverkocht.

Een echte! bakker. Lekker vers brood in meerdere soorten. Prima gebak.

Fijne bakker die heerlijke producten levert. Met name de aardbeienslof is zeldzaam lekker!

Eindelijk een bakker die wit en bruinbrood met maanzaadjes heeft

Joepie wat ben ik blij met deze échte bakker, geweldig brood en banket. Echt stukken beter dan dat fabriekswerk uit de super. En lekker in de buurt!

Flinke hoeveelheid brood besteld! Na 2 dagen niet meer te eten. Brood was droog en viel uit elkaar. Niet echt wat je verwacht van een “echte bakker”. Volgende keer maar gewoon naar de supermarkt!

Onbegrijpelijk dat een bakker tijdens lunchtijd gesloten is!!!
