Pleasant stop for a cup of tea with pastel de nata

When it's busy everything takes a very long time, but the sandwiches and coffee are very tasty.

Tasty sandwiches but pricey, somewhat slow service but friendly and nice to sit at.

I spent half a morning here learning my foreign language. They patiently served me on and off. Very pleasant here.

We had a delicious meal in a beautiful location. I personally found the bakery's breakfast a bit pricier than expected. Unfortunately, the service wasn't great—the staff seemed overworked and slow to respond. Nevertheless, I'm considering returning just for the food.

2019: Nice ambiance. The shakshuka was ok. 2023: tuna melt toastie not to be missed. 2024: very good pastel de nata and good coffee 2025: still very good place for quick bite or coffee.

The toast should have been a bit longer, it was good but limp

Service: ignored by the waitress and had to order upfront where we were treated poorly by staff. Serving: the French toast is the size of the fork, not worth the €11!

The place was boiling hot. I ordered white bread (toastie) and got brown. Toasties were also very expensive and nothing special, and the coffee wasn't good either; it came from a machine... I won't be coming back. The staff was very friendly, though.

This is a good place to find a cold breakfast with a selection of tea and coffee. The service is fast and adequate. I found the fact that you are just next to the bakery front counter made for more noise and constant movement. But if you like people watching, it is great. You can also watch people walking along the shopping street and catching the tram. It is just down the street from shops and Jumbo, Kruidvat and Etos. I ordered an ontbijt that included a slice of Bread, scrambled eggs, ham and cheese and butter and jelly and a croissant. The whole grain Bread was hearty and the croissant very flaky. I did not include the scrambled eggs with my order. I thought the topping for the yoghurt was very nice. I took two appleflaps to go. I didn’t enjoy my appleflap as much and found the topping tasteless and resembling cardboard. The apple was just a slice of two with one raisin. One thing I highly recommend is the bakery’s banana cake with walnuts and chocolate chips. Worth taking the tram up to the Statenkwartier just for that.

I've been to this bakery regularly around 1 p.m. on Saturdays, only to find they've run out of bread! Plus, it's getting more and more expensive, even the special offers. The service, especially from the senior staff behind the counter, could be a lot friendlier; a smile costs nothing. I've been going to the competitor more often now.

Nice bakery with their own coffee as it seems. We only had a coffee and some bakery things, it was a very relaxed area and it has nice seatings. It's more a coffeebar, compared to the standard bakery. The service was excellent.

Coffee and pastries are top notch. The chairs really need to be replaced. In my opinion it detracts from the atmosphere/hygiene 😅.

Food is tasty, unfortunately the new employees (young, blind and deaf) they don't see you, they don't hear you. I am a regular customer and I come by often. I had to wait 15 minutes, no one came to ask me if I wanted something to drink or eat. The young team were chatting to each other with no attention to the customers. I was going to place my order myself otherwise I would have to wait another 10 minutes. Please have a supervisor work on weekends.

Ik ging vandaag terug naar Parijs (waar ik woon) en ik neem altjid iets hollands mee voor in de trein. Dit keer koos ik voor een boterkoek. Wat een terleurestelling toen ik eindelijk in de trein zat en m'n lekker op wou peuzelen, het was een droge, kruimelige bedoeling! Boterkoek hoort toch smeuïg en zacht te zijn? Ik denk dat hij vast te lang in de vitrine heeft liggen uitrogen ... :-(

Ate the tuna-salmon sandwich yesterday. The taste is okay, but the stinginess in toppings!!!! 1 sandwich with a thin layer of tuna salad and 1 sandwich with a thin layer of avocado spread with 2 tiny pieces of salmon, pulled apart a little to make it look slightly larger. And then a huge mountain of arugula. A mint tea with 3 thin sprigs of mint with 4 leaves only at the end. No taste to the water. Do charge the top prize. And it's just not clean there. There was dust everywhere. We sat next to some screen with fake plants that was full of very thick dust bunnies. Really nasty. No, not recommended. There is plenty of catering at the Fred, so have lunch somewhere else next time.

Such a great place, I love the food and coffee but I would change the blue chairs which are really dirty, and repaint the door of the toilet, this would make the place so much better :)

Nice and cozy place, nice large windows with a beautiful view. It's just a shame that that beautifully positioned bench is sometimes a huge mess due to crumbs from children, but also because a number of sagging cushions are thrown around like rags. I already asked a few times if I didn't think that was a shame... no response. I once even offered to pay for those pillows, no response either. Apparently the manager doesn't care, missed opportunity...

Great place to work as a freelancer or relax with a coffee. It has a nice streetview. And in winter its always warm inside. One con are the (very) dirty chairs. I ve mentioned it to the straff twice already. Nothing changing though. It's what it is.

This is the best café/patisserie/bakery in the area. It is perfect for having a coffee with a cake or for a meal. The place has a very special style, a beautiful little corner. Mijn dochter had via de postcodeloterij een bon van 10 euro gekregen. We zijn daar een koffie en een thee gaan drinken. Het duurde even voordat het gebracht werd. De thee was lauw en zat in een viezig plastic kannetje dat van onder werd geopend, de espresso macchiato was zuur. toen ze ze ging afrekenen moest ze meer voor het gebakje betalen omdat het aan tafel werd geserveerd. Er liepen heel veel mensen rond zonder duidelijke taak/ doel. Er werd gestofzuigd in een volle zaak. verder waren de stoelen vies en zag het er schmutzig uit. Eens en nooit weer.

The way that manager treats staff there is quite serious. Allowing investment to be used beyond the date, released and then fired because of it is not a nice company

We wanted to drink a coffee and eat some desert at 16:30 a Sunday and they told us that they are closing and we can’t sit down.

Staff as cheeky, rude and unmotivated as we experienced today on December 31st, 2023 at 3:10 p.m....that's not possible. At 3:15 p.m. we ordered a cappuccino and an Ouielbollen as well as the offer for € 5.95. The lady said that the cake on offer was no longer in stock. We then ordered a coffee and a nut slice. She emphasized that the cafe closes in 30 minutes. After 15 minutes we were served the coffee and cappuccino and told that there were no more Ouielbollen (at the time we ordered there were still around 50 on display and when we left there were still many in the first display case?!) and that too There would be no more nut cuts (it was also in the first display case, so when you come in - front right?!). We then asked confusedly and then got up and left. Then a “lady” behind the counter (not the lady who took the order) shouted or yelled at us to leave the café (we were already there…). By the time we reached the exit door she wasn't too stupid to shout all sorts of things after us. We've never experienced anything like this before. Incidentally, a lady sat down at the next table 5 minutes after us. She was then told that she would no longer be served. Then she stood up and left. The opening time was until 4 p.m. So there was still 40 minutes left. Please feel free to contact us. We would be happy to describe the employee to you. One more note. We have been coming to you since it opened and are in Scheveningen 2-3 times every year for several days. We come for breakfast, for coffee… and were always satisfied.

We really enjoy coming to Bakkerij Van Maanen. For a good cup of coffee, freshly baked bread or tasty sweets. You're always in the right place here! Also a nice atmosphere and helpful staff.

Cozy and good value for money. I sit there several times a week for coffee and to send emails. Author 'Can it fly? From idea to successful startup', 'Survival strategy for startups' & 'Growing without growing'.

Good bread. But after standing at the counter several minutes waiting and staring at the three women in the kitchen to finish chatting, and the one man who only helps the café customers, I couldn't take it any more. I left and went to the Jumbo and bought equally good bread for €1 less. Not gonna be back for quite a while, if ever.

Nice atmosphere but terrible service. The “cafeteria” is located in a really lovely neighbourhood. Warm ambiance, only ruined by the unprofessional service. Most of the waiters are students and they are replaced every two months.

Prima brood. Verder is de patisserie een grooot aandachtspunt! Petit Fours taartjes zijn ronduit smerig ( margarine ) en niet vers! Fabriekswerk pur sang! Jammer. Veel zal uit eigen bakkerij komen. Maar veel afbak werk en zgn. dagvers dingen niet. Gaan des avonds weer de koeling in! Bah. Leuke zaak....erg prijzig. Nee...veel kanttekeningen. Zo ook de , beroemde, ' Crompouce' ! Wat een aanfluiting. Een halfgare Croissant met Tompouceglazuur wat smaakt naar witte chocolade. Géen laagje slagroom, geen beleving. De gele room was aardig. En dan toch ook een groot deel van het personeel...zuur, zuurder...zuurst. Jammer want het hoeft helemaal niet.

Cheese cake I do not recommend. Too much orange, more orange cake than cheese cake... its a nice atmosfere though and the girl behind the register is very friendly and helpful. The coffee is good, and they seem to have a lot of extra choices like juices, biscuits, homemade products. It all looked delicious but I only had the coffee and cheesecake.

Sweets are amazing like home made, my favorite corner in Den Haag to have my morning coffee Yet the service can be improved, wiping the tables use is a good and simple idea to keep the shop clean and be responsible during the pandemic. I don’t mind cleaning the surface of the table if they provide some basic tools

Beautiful place for food, we sat outside, we were in for breakfasts. Definitely recommend for a visit, nice service, you sit, eat and watch the world go by.

For us, this is one of the best bakers in The Hague, which puts more emphasis on taste and quality than on quantity and an overly large selection. The rolls are excellent and still fresh and warm in the morning. The bread is more wholesome and buying directly from the shop is definitely worth it (as opposed to buying from the same baker delivered to supermarkets, which are often less fresh or even baked again). There is a nice little café attached where you can also enjoy the many sweet baked goods foretell on site.

Heerlijk brood en een soort van knusse koffieruimte met heerlijke stoelen, waarin je onderuit kunt zakken

We kwamen eind van de middag en de place was vies. Overal kruimels en oude servetten. De tafeltjes niet schoon, stoelen gescheurd en het theeglas had een stuk uit de bovenkant. Het personeel had geen intresse om iets te doen. Heel jammer want de taartjes waren heel lekker. Misschien de meisjes op een cursus sturen hoe je moet bedienen en schoonmaken in een eethuisje.

Had a great window table for a delicious baker’s breakfast! Excellent service, great coffee, juice, yoghurt and granola, delicious seeded bread, egg, cheese, ham, croissant and jam. Really friendly, very welcoming and just a gorgeous neighbourhood bakery cafe. (And then stroopwaffels to go for later!)

The Fred es un barrio exclusivo en La Haya. Hay muchas tiendas y cafeterías. Baaker van Mannen es un ganador. Mi compañero de comedor y yo pedimos un cruasán recién horneado con jamón y queso. ¡Delicioso! El croissant estaba escamoso y cálido con queso derretido y sabroso jamón. También tuve una tarta de limón y mi compañero de comedor tenía una tarta de fresa. Ambos fueron fabulosos. Todas las delicias recién horneadas parecían deliciosas. Lo mejor fue el precio, solo 17 euros. Y a juzgar por lo abarrotado que estaba el lugar durante nuestras dos visitas, es un café muy popular.
