We celebrated my girlfriend’s birthday here and were looking forward to a nice Italian dinner. Volare seemed like a promising choice, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing. When we arrived, we were given a table that was essentially attached to another table occupied by another couple. There was almost no space between us, making it difficult to have a private conversation. I ordered a beer, but it was served around 40 minutes later, by which time I had already finished my pizza. The beer was also warm. I informed the waitress, who kindly offered to replace it. However, when the bill arrived, I discovered that I had been charged for both beers, even though I did not drink the first one because of its temperature. The starters were decent, but overpriced for what they were. The pizzas were good, but again expensive. I paid €18 for a pizza, which I found difficult to justify given the overall experience and quality. Overall, the food was acceptable, but the service, seating arrangement, and value for money left a lot to be desired.

We walked in and the same waiter walked away from us two times before a second one came to assist. (10 minute wait) We finally got our order taken, sat down, then 30 minutes later a different waitress asked if we were taken care of (a clear lack of communication between the staff considering there were MAX 4 tables in the restaurant). We waited for another 10-15 minutes for the drinks to finally come out and have the waiter (the one who took our order in the beginning) ask us if we wanted food when we had ordered it with him already. The food didn’t necessarily take long to come out nor was it bad but it’s the whole situation that made it worse (not to mention the size of the portion for its 10€ price). This wouldn’t have been too bad but it gets worse! Once we’re ready to pay and ask for the bill (which conveniently took 2 mins to come) the waitress charged us an EXTRA 2€ without our consent and when we decided to confront her about it and walked in (making direct eye contact with her) she walked away so wait yet again. She apologized (bare minimum) and that was the end of it. Overall, this place we got scammed (the principle is the issue since you should NEVER charge anyone without their consent) and the staff doesn’t do it any justice. We will not be going back.

Recently, we celebrated a birthday at Volare in Amsterdam after making a reservation for approximately 20 guests. Prior to confirming the booking, we took deliberate care to clarify — both by email and by phone with management — that the arrangement would be à la carte dining, not the €35 fixed menu. This point was explicitly addressed to avoid precisely the type of situation that ultimately occurred. On the day of the event, we arrived early to arrange the cake and coordinate final details before the guests’ arrival. At that time, we were informed that, due to the size of the group, only the fixed menu could be served. After discussion, the staff acknowledged that an internal communication error had taken place. However, despite recognizing that the mistake originated on their side, no viable alternative or meaningful remedy was offered. With guests about to arrive, canceling or relocating was not a realistic option. As a direct consequence of the restaurant’s failure to honor what had been clearly confirmed in advance, we were compelled to absorb an unplanned expense of approximately €700. A few drinks and desserts were later offered as a courtesy. While noted, this gesture did not meaningfully address the financial impact nor the principle at stake: a confirmed agreement was not upheld. Operational mistakes can happen. What defines a serious establishment is accountability — not only acknowledging an error, but taking responsibility for its consequences. In this case, the burden of that error was transferred entirely to the client. This account is shared calmly and factually, in the hope that future guests will not face similar circumstances and that internal processes — particularly regarding management-approved group reservations — will be handled with the rigor they require.

The staff is amazing as well as the design and vibes of the restaurant… but the food was really bad. We were with a group of 8 persons and tried a lot of food on the menu and every single dish was either flavorless, way too fat (courgette flowers that tasted like oliebollen), or just not right (pizza that’s not crunchy and with a very bad spinach taste..) Its such a shame because the restaurant has a lot of potential. I really hope that this review helps to improve the menu.

I went to Volare with a group of friends a few days ago and honestly had an unpleasant experience. We had already been waiting for a while for them to take our order - when the waitress finally came to us, I mentioned I have a dairy allergy and gave her my allergy card to share with the kitchen. The manager came back to me instantly after that to tell me that they couldn’t serve me because of my allergy. She didn’t apologize or tried to find a solution so I could still eat something, and point blank refused to serve me. She even refused to give me a piece of bread, which would have been completely safe for me! This shows a clear lack of both training and empathy, as I’m sure with a minimal effort the kitchen could have prepared something safe for me and that wouldn’t have left me hungry while watching my friends eat. Not to mention that the waitresses never came back with the dessert menu for my friends, and somehow managed to drop a huge pile of glasses right next to us, which obviously broke and shattered at our feet. There were still big pieces of glass on the floor when we left… Overall a disappointing service and lack of basic training.

The interior is very cozy and the atmosphere is great. The service is also very friendly. We only had to wait quite a while twice for someone to take our food and drink orders. The price-quality ratio wasn't great; rather small portions and very few drinks with lots of ice (cocktails). One of the two appetizers was also somewhat bland and greasy. We were excited for an Italian-style meal, but it was disappointing from the start. When the bread arrived, we asked for olive oil and balsamic and were told the balsamic would cost extra, which already didn’t feel very Italian. The truffle pasta I ordered was extremely rich and overly cheesy, and when I couldn’t finish it, I asked for a takeaway only to be told they don’t offer takeaways on pasta dishes. Overall, the experience felt unwelcoming and lacked the warmth you’d expect. Won’t be returning.

Since opening, the quality has clearly declined. The location is beautiful, but the service left much to be desired: our reservation was forgotten (despite calling), resulting in an hour-long wait. Once seated, we received little help, had to grab menus ourselves, the appetizers were too salty and greasy, and it took an hour and a half (after asking twice) for the main courses to arrive. It was always a great place for the atmosphere and to go with friends, but after the last three visits, I'm less enthusiastic.

A Night of Slow-Motion Dining: When the Hugo Spritz Became Our Best Friend Well, where do we even begin? Our party of six rolled into this cozy little restaurant at 7:30 p.m. full of excitement, hungry bellies, and a long-overdue catch-up session. Little did we know, we were about to enter a time warp where minutes stretched into eons and the focaccia developed its own geological era. We kicked things off optimistically by ordering a pitcher of Hugo Spritz. Now, we thought this would be the classic start to a lively evening: a quick clink of glasses, a refreshing sip, and off we go. Except, well, the Hugo took a little field trip somewhere in the space-time continuum before it reached our table. We had to wave down the server just to get a drinks menu, because apparently the cocktails were playing hide-and-seek from the main menu. When the Hugo finally arrived, it was a nice relief—though by then, we were already on our way to mastering the art of patience. Now, let’s talk about the great Espresso Martini Price Mystery. One of our friends ordered it, only to find out the price had mysteriously gone up by one euro compared to the menu. Our waitress checked, shrugged, and basically said, “Yep, the bar says that’s the new price, deal with it.” Not that a single euro is going to break the bank, but it was a little eyebrow-raising that they wouldn’t honor the printed price. We just rolled with it, because at this point, the night was clearly writing its own comedy script. Then came the real test of endurance: the wait for food. The focaccia, which had been sitting on the counter like a museum artifact, took a good 45 minutes to reach us. By the time it landed, it was the kind of stale that could probably survive a nuclear winter. We had two servings of fried zucchini flowers and some vitello tonnato that eventually showed up after an hour or more. The starters were actually decent once they arrived, but we were definitely on the slow food train—emphasis on slow. So, after what felt like a delightful eternity of playing cards and bonding over our mutual hunger, our main courses finally emerged from the kitchen. Three pizzas, two pastas, and one steak later—delivered around two and a half hours into our epic odyssey—we were finally able to eat for real. And you know what? The mains were pretty darn good! Except for one lemony cacio e pepe that might have had a little identity crisis. Everything else was genuinely tasty once it finally landed on the table. Dessert, however, was a different story. We thought we’d wrap up on a sweet note, but the desserts had other plans. The pistachio tiramisu seemed to have forgotten any hint of sweetness and came off oddly salty, while the filled doughnut just tasted off. We did manage to embarrass our friend with a sparkler and a fake birthday moment, so at least we got a good laugh out of it. In the end, we spent over three and a half hours there, had some good laughs and a bit of a marathon wait, and left feeling like we’d just filmed a reality show episode called “Survivor: Dinner Edition.” So, in summary, our night turned into a bit of a slow-motion adventure with a few sassy twists. We got to know our deck of mini cards very well, made a drinking game out of the dessert debacle, and left with a story that’s honestly more memorable than a perfectly smooth evening might have been. We’re probably not rushing back, but hey, at least we had a lot of laughs and a lot of Hugo Spritz refills to keep us going. If you’re in the mood for a dinner that doubles as a patience-testing social experiment, this might be your spot. Otherwise, maybe just grab a pizza somewhere else. Thanks for the ride, and bon appétit… eventually!

The staff is understaffed; waiting two hours for primi piatti is simply unacceptable... Luckily, we were able to cancel the rest of our order and head home. The second-most expensive wine (Valpolicella) lacks structure (like licking a stamp). The Prosecco is okay, as are the appetizers. The acoustics are unbearable, and normal conversation with your partner is impossible. It's not the service; the girls are certainly not picking their noses, but too much goes wrong at Volare to have a pleasant evening.

I don’t usually feel scammed, but this restaurant really left a bad taste in my mouth — literally and figuratively. We were at a friend’s birthday dinner with a pre-agreed two-course menu for €35 per person (excluding alcohol). What actually showed up? A couple of bread baskets, two places of small burrata salad, two pizzas, and one pasta dish — barely enough for half the table. For a group of nine, the total value couldn’t have been more than €100— yet we paid €315. I personally got a spoonful of salad and one slice of pizza, and that was it. Honestly… what exactly were we paying for?

I recently had dinner here. Overall, the main dishes (pizza and pasta) and wine were good, but the experience was medium by several disappointing aspects. We waited over an hour before our starters arrived (burrata, carpaccio, and a cold cuts & cheese platter). The cheese on the platter lacked flavor — mostly mozzarella and a very mild cheese, far from the bold Italian tastes one would expect (Grana, Parmesan, Gorgonzola, Pecorino). The charcuterie was served on a mountain of salad, likely to make the portion seem larger, and came with some crunchy vegetables that didn’t add much. No bread was served with the burrata — which seems essential to me. When we asked for some, we were charged €7 for focaccia and a kind of chip-like snack, which felt quite overpriced. And we realised that when I paid at the end. The service was not up to classic standard either — slow and inattentive when we needed something. I know that the level of service in Amsterdam is low compared to other countries so we are in habit. Despite the decent quality of the main dishes, the long wait, high prices, and some questionable choices make it a place I wouldn’t return to.

Dat was dan ook het hoogtepunt van de avond. Helaas liet de bediening veel te wensen over. De jonge meiden in de bediening leken weinig tot geen horeca-ervaring te hebben. Ze waren vriendelijk, maar totaal niet georganiseerd of oplettend. Gasten moesten lang wachten op hun eten en ook bij ons duurde het erg lang voor er iets op tafel kwam. Tot overmaat van ramp stond er op onze eindafrekening drie nagerechten, terwijl wij er geen hadden besteld – en we waren met zijn tweeën. Dit soort slordigheden zijn echt storend. Kortom: de keuken verdient een dikke pluim, maar de bediening moet dringend professioneler worden aangepakt. Zonde van het potentieel.

DRAMA. We went to this restaurant yesterday to celebrate my daughter's birthday but unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. A few things were ordered as a starter, including a plate of burrata — and it was clearly not good. It stung on the tongue and tasted fermented. I reported this to the waiter and the plate was sent back to the kitchen. Not much later we were asked if we wanted to try a new one. Unfortunately, that turned out not to be good again. When I asked if the chef had tasted it himself, the answer I got was: “Yes.” Incomprehensible. This too went back to the kitchen. Looking back, I'm disappointed that we didn't leave immediately. We decided to stay and ordered two pizzas (bland and tasteless) and two pastas — they were also disappointing. To make matters worse, we received no apology whatsoever about the spoiled burrata. Bill: €160. Really a waste of money. But even worse: a completely failed evening at a time when we had something to celebrate.

Had a nice evening with good food at Volare! The pumpkin with burrata was especially recommended! The pizza was also good, nice tomato sauce and had a lot of flavor. Only the scroppino was a bit too sweet and seemed to come from a slushy machine. Furthermore, it is a cozy place with a good atmosphere where I would like to come back again.

We had a nice corner table for a birthday dinner. The starters were fast, calamari was super good. But the waiter took it away even though we were still eating. Then two of the pastas my friend ordered were served cold, so they asked for new ones. They got new ones after the rest of us finished our food and it was apparently too cheesy although it was a truffle pasta. Two other friends’ pastas were also too salty. I ordered a pizza with anchovies and even without the anchovies it was way too salty. It didn’t feel authentic but the restaurant interior was very beautiful and spacious. It’s nice for pictures but for food I would not really recommend. There were these frat boys who came with a big group and were being a complete menace. They were super loud, rude, and disrespectful. Everyone in the restaurant was uncomfortable. They would yell and swear, sing songs without being mindful of other customers. Some of them even threw up on the table which instantly made some of us lose our appetite. I wish someone would have told them to quiet down. I don’t think i would come here again but if they work on their service and taste better then it has potential to be a restaurant with better ratings.

Normally I always enjoy coming to Volare (I live in the same street), but unfortunately I did not have a good experience last Thursday evening, 11/28/24. The five of us had made a reservation at 7:00 PM, and the entrance was as good and welcoming as ever. We ordered five pizzas and each a drink and a bread basket in advance. The wine we received was very sour, but after indicating this, the person who kindly served us all evening gave us a new glass, which was great. At one point it was already after 8:00 PM and the pizza still wasn't there. The person who helped us neatly indicated that it was really coming soon. Then it still took a while, and then she came to indicate that we were getting a drink on the house as an apology. Very nice, so we all ordered a drink. However, only two came at first, and then we had to ask for the others twice more - the last one came when the pizza was almost gone (not really the best way to make up for something if you have to "nag" about it yourself) . After 8:30 PM the pizza finally arrived, but by now we were already a bit over hungry after the long wait. Two pizzas were quite cold, and some of the crusts were burnt. We ate some of it, but when the waiter came to collect the plates, we honestly said that it was a bit disappointing; We hadn't eaten a large portion either. She politely indicated that she found it annoying and was going to discuss it. We ordered two more tiramisu to end the evening nicely, and they were just as good and delicious as always. When we wanted to pay, the person who had kindly served us all evening was apparently no longer working, and someone came to the table who had not helped us with the bill all evening. The bill was incorrect (the drinks we had received from the "house" were listed on it, and there had been no feedback regarding the pizzas). We explained this again to the person, and she would discuss it. Then this took a long time again, and we decided to get up to pay the bill ourselves. There we found the girl in question busy talking to another colleague (I think the manager). Instead of taking stock and apologizing for the mistakes that had clearly been made at our table, the colleague in charge behaved very aggressively and unfriendly. She said that we had not waited that long at all (she could see it in the system), and that the pizzas could not have been cold (there were heat lamps) - we should have indicated this (which we did at the person who helped us, but clearly there had been no transfer from the person who had stopped her shift and/or the manager was not aware of our table). She also told us that there was a new girl in the service, so she couldn't do much about it. After a whole evening of just being patient and kind, this really went the wrong way and we now became a bit irritated to be approached in this way, and then as Christmas on the cake she also said that she was our " attitude" didn't like. Not really the welcoming or reflective attitude you'd expect after a disappointing evening full of mistakes. Ultimately, with pain and effort, the drinks and two pizzas could be removed, but a "nice evening" was almost impossible and we still had to pay 87 euros for an evening that went like this. Very unfortunate, because it is normally a very nice and cozy place, but there was little hospitality and service this evening. I won't be going there anymore for the time being, and I wouldn't recommend it to others either.

I checked the allergens for different dishes and chose one that based on the allergens menu, it not contain gluten. I do not have an issue with cross contamination but I can not eat gluten itself. I mentioned this to the waitress and she said she would request the dish to be made indeed gluten free, which was weird since the menu said it did not contain it. Fast forward 30 mins after leaving the restaurant I started to feel unwell, vomited and same next day (among other symptoms I only get when I am intoxicated with gluten) the rest of the food I ate that day prior to the restaurant was 100% gluten free, so the intoxication could only come from what I ate at this restaurant

This place was close to where we were staying (the Chasse Hotel). We went in relatively early to eat dinner and sat in the bar area, which is known as Bomboloni's. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had the agliatelle with ragout of ossobuco & oxtail. It was rich and quite tasty. We don't remember what my husband had, but we know it was good.

I visited this place in April and had an awful experience. The service was terrible. We had to repeat our order several times, yet some of the items never arrived. When we asked for the bill, I paid it along with tips. Only after paying, I realized there were many extra items on the bill. To make matters worse, the waiter seemed to be drunk and was more interested in chatting with his friends than serving us. We had to wait for another bill, which I paid again, and the waiter assured us that the previous transaction would be declined. Unfortunately, that was not the case, and I ended up spending an extra 130 euros.
