This place opened its doors in Amsterdam in the late 70's when it was called Warung Utomo. They relocated at this adress in 1993 close to an intersection. It's a family oriented restaurant/take away, one of the first things that you'll notice is the Indonesian, Javanese surinamese influenced decorations. Also a big photo of the presidents Soekarno and John F. Kennedy. They have a big menu with al lot of options that is loved by their culture and environment. My favorite dishes are the Saoto Soup, Babi Pangang and Bakabanas (Deepfried plantain) with special homemade Peanut sauce. Most people that work there have worked for many years and are like an auntie or an uncle, very kind and hard workers, at times it could get crowdy, there isn't many seating available when it hits rush hour. A line of people that want to order take away and are in a hurry after they finish their jobs and want to go home.

Super nice people, typical Warung toko atmosphere. Portions of the dishes are very good. Our 'small' saoto soup was very filling. Longtong and satay also really good. Satay sauce was on the sweet side and the chicken in the soup was a bit dry for your taste, but otherwise delicious.

Many Koreans already know this, but I really enjoyed it! The price is really reasonable considering the cost of living in Amsterdam!

Rice pom remains the bomb here. The staff is also always cheerful and service-oriented. They still know that my son loves the food at this restaurant.

Roti was tasty, was fresh. But not the tastiest roti ever

A small Surinamese Indonesian shop where you can eat incredibly good and delicious food. We really enjoyed the food they served here. This is certainly worth repeating.

Bought food for the first time. Bad bad bad. Nasi Tasteless and a lot of salt. Bami lots of salt and camouflaged with sugar. Tasteless. I passed this on and was then told that I could return the food today exactly as I received it. I will then get my money back. Never again. Upon arrival I asked if they were Surinamese. She hesitated. Even then I didn't have to buy anything. She says "yes, the boss is from Domburg. And expensive too.

Ik heb roti besteld om mee te nemen , vlees was oud en de roti schandalig gewoonweg , viel helemaal uit elkaar Oftewel oud en uit de vriezer .

A real old-fashioned Warung, like the Warung started in the Netherlands. When you sit there you have the feeling of being in Suriname. My favorite is nasi satay chicken, saoto also recommended. Makmur is a top tent

Small restaurant further from the center but very affordable prices. Seems to be a less tourist and more locale place. Food was super nice and payed less 28 for two dishes.

Do you really want delicious Surinamese Javanese dishes or catering? Then this is the best address, truly traditional dishes like we were used to in Suriname! Makmur is definitely recommended!

Javanese Surinamese cuisine. Cute little gem on the east side of Amsterdam Prefect lunch. Options for all. My fave are the "bakabana" fried banana with peanut sauce.

The service is always fantastic. You will be received and greeted with a smile! It really depends on who's cooking...I guess. Sons the sauto is tasty and sometimes disappointing. The baka bana is ALWAYS good, tasty and crispy! Think the best in Amsterdam. This also applies to the satay and satay sauce, which are also among my favorites at Makmur. I don't order other dishes there. I have ordered/eaten noodles/nasi before, but I am not a fan of that. You have to make it yourself or eat it at someone's house. I call that mass production. Nasi, noodles, etc. seem like easy dishes to prepare, but they must be made with love. So I would go for the small dishes! Prices have risen somewhat and it is very difficult to find a parking space in the area.

Had a quick meal there this afternoon with my cousin after a morning of toil, looking forward to a tasty Tjauwmin moksi, I have had better, meat was very disappointing, and not fresh; Saoto soup quite standard, and the telo trie was not good, sent back and got money back. You don't see us there anymore, it's a shame everything is deteriorating these days!

I have never bought such bad food anywhere in the Netherlands. I don't think they should even use the name Warung. There is literally nothing Javanese about their nasi, tjauwmin, roasted chicken and/or moksie metie. If the sauto here is tasty (someone really likes it, I read in the reviews), then keep buying it, but don't buy nasi, tjauw, roasted chicken or moksie metie here! You'll be sorry! For all the Surinamese who read this review, you have been warned! you would rather get the nasi or noodles at the AH. I don't think that's edible, but this was (without knowing what it tastes like from the AH and other supermarkets) even worse. Tjauwmin was literally 1 noodle of some kind. Don't get me started on the pepper. You could literally drink it 😂 And the price is still € 14 for a portion. When you see that portion you will be ashamed that you ordered your food there. The "telephone operator" was also not exactly customer friendly. My advice: close that food shop and start a shop or something without fresh food. You can't sell noodles instead of tjauwmin. You cannot sell nasi rames or something like that instead of Surinamese Javanese nasi. I could go on and on, but I hope it is already clear to the people who are smart enough to read my review first. Enjoy a tasty meal somewhere else!

Tried Tahu Lontong, BakaBana with Pindasaus. We also tried Telo Teiri and Telo Bakkeljauw. I liked all the dishes and the taste was very interesting. Telo Bakkeljauw was very salty for me but someone who likes salty food would be a great dish. Food was great and the service was fast. I loved all the variety.

I accidentally ordered from them instead of my regular store. Roti chicken menu. The potato was dry, as was the rotivel. The sauce was lumpy and had little flavor, you had to look for the long beans. Next time my own shop.

Picked up rendang + teloh bakkeljauw in the afternoon. It was really delicious!!! I don't agree with the negative reviews, hopefully not if I eat here more often :-)

Beetje een tegenvaller. Telo was niet genoeg gaar gekookt, alvorens te zijn gebakken. Was nog hard van binnen. Tjouwmin moksi metie, zware tegenvaller ! Tjouwmin was erg droog, net zoals het vlees. Het smaakte niet vers, en geen bakje saus erbij voor over het vlees.

I used to come here rarely, but the service has deteriorated considerably. When I received my order, everything was missing (one saoto, 3 x rice for the 3 saoto). Then they added that for me. But when I got home I discovered that a petjil and bakabana were still missing. I have ordered almost €50 worth of food, so I want it to be complete. (Edit: review was from a long time ago, about six months ago. It was never posted because of 1 'inappropriate word'. That's why the date is today because I had just edited it.

After spending some time in Indonesia and coming back to Europe, this place brings so many good memories as the food tastes very authentic. The place is rather simple, but the quality of the food and the atmosphere overcompensate it. There are several vegan and vegetarian options, so it's a good place for a diverse group. Highly recommended!

Food was rubbish in my opinion, saoto only had bean sprouts.

We often drop by here when we are in Amsterdam. My love says they have the best Saoto soup here and I can't blame him :)

I still miss Toko Sarinah Wijttenbachstaat 35. Those meals, sauce, lapis, rendang and so on. Since then, no one has really come close to that level of cooking in Amsterdam. I can well remember any tram/bus staff or residents who will recognize it.

Good Surinamese/Indian food, tasty

The Bami was good, but chicken satay is made from fillet instead of thigh meat! It's very dry and no taste! Definitely never experience this again! Trie fish has no pepper, but is replaced with sugar! Unfortunately this is the last time!

Je kan hier heerlijk eten, het is niet duur en het personeel is heel lief. Mijn vader kwam hier heel vaak toen mam nog leefde. Mijn moeder en ik aten hier ook regelmatig.

Beste saoto en Baka Bana van Amsterdam oost

Ik had de roti kip. Opzich wel lekker, maar het was echt weinig (bakje minder dan de helft gevuld) en lauw. Ik had na het eten nog trek..

First time in a Surinamese restaurant. I liked it and the staff was very kind, they explained to me what was what with an English menu. I didn't like that you had to go to the counter to order, even though the restaurant is really small, and also the closing time was very early. Despite this, a very nice experience that I recommend to everyone, at least once..!

Ik kom graag bij dit ietwat verscholen restaurant. Zelf ben ik verknocht aan de vegetarische Gado Gado. Die bestel ik hier altijd. En die is hier uit de kunst! Die satesaus is goddelijk. De ene 'Surinamer' is natuurlijk de andere niet. De diversiteit is enorm en ook zo leuk (en lekker!). Ik ga graag naar dit sympathieke (afhaal) restaurant voor de Indische invloeden in mijn lievelingsgerecht. De sfeer is hier gemoedelijk, de inrichting sfeervol en de bediening snel en klantvriendelijk. 11 euro kost mijn favoriete maaltijd. Prima prijs - kwaliteit verhouding.

Had me verheugd op hun heerlijke kipkerrie. Maar de saus ontbrak. Die waren ze vergeten. Dat vond ik verdrietig.

Aardig personeel, lekker eten, snelle service

Smerige nasi. Is kleefrijst met sojasaus. Geen echte nasi. Kip was op sommige stukjes koud, en prijs op menu klopt niet met wat je aftikt. Ik vroeg om sambal/zuur ik krijg een gele vloeistof dat me deed denken aan een heftige nacht op de wc. Waardeloos, €19 in prullenbak gegooid.

Prima eten hoor, ik had cassave met bakkeljauw. De cassave was erg goed gebakken, dat wel, maar de bakkeljauw was 'gewoon' en niet extra bijzonder. De gastvrouw was zeer vriendelijk! Het is een erg kleine ruimte en weinig tafels (denk voor 12 personen) waardoor je best op elkaar zit. Prima voor een snackje verder.

Prijzen in twee jaar 40 procent gestegen. Terwijl "service" hetzelfde blijft.

Je komt hier om in redelijke rust (tot nu toe altijd plek) relaxed te eten. Stelt niet teleur, eten snel opgediend en smakelijk.

Vegetarian Roti with Vegatables

Hele kleine porties voor veel geld, teloh terie had een heel klein beetje helemaal kapotgemalen terie alles om te bezuinigen terwijl je gewoon betaalt, nog nooit ergens in Amsterdam zo’n kleine pitjel gekregen. Schaamteloos dat ze je dit durven te verkopen. Loop/rij een stukje verder voor een betere warung.

The only place I order Gado Gado and Dawet in Amsterdam since they opened!! Small cozy clean place. Nice not intruding background music. You eat&go (without pressure it just common sense as place is tiny and popular) or takeaway. Service is always quick and friendly. Pricing is extremely good in my opinion 👍

Hier hebben ze de beste Gado Gado met satehsaus die in Amsterdam te vinden is. Ook top is bij hun de Telo Bakkeljauw, de Loempia en de Baka Bana. Een heel vriendelijke en goedlachse mevrouw leidt alles in goede banen: vijf sterren! :-)

Dit is een belediging voor de Javaanse keuken. Correctie: van elke keuken. Heb zelden zó slecht gegeten. - Groenten zijn tot snot gekookt en met niets dan water op 'smaak' gebracht. Bovendien diepvries kouseband, niet eens vers. - Tempeh en tofu zijn grote smakeloze sponzige brokken, de tempeh smaakt van binnen gewoon naar oude krant en totaal niet gegaard of gemarineerd. Alsof je een hap tempeh direct uit de verpakking neemt. - De saoto was warm, maar daar is alles mee gezegd. Het is niet de kruidige, hartige soep die het hoort te zijn. -De bakabana was een dun sliertje banaan, niet eens een volledige plak. - Pindasaus totaal niet op smaak: smaakt gewoon naar opgewarmde pindakaas. - ‘Atjar’ (ingelegde zure komkommer en ui) was niet eens goed ingetrokken, smaakte gewoon naar grote stukken rauwe ui. - En als je denkt dat het niet slechter kan: zat er ook nog een ZWARTE HAAR op de bodem van ons bakje! Als je belt om aan te geven dat dit allemaal mis was krijg je een ongeïnteresseerde dame aan de lijn die zegt dat de kok nu eenmaal zo kookt. Van de haar wil ze wel een foto zien, omdat ze het anders niet gelooft. En dat was het. Geen excuus, geen tegemoetkoming, NIKS. Zelden zulke slechte service meegemaakt. Echt een blamage voor elke keuken, maar zeker voor een tent die zich 'warung' noemt en in de jaren '90 onze favoriet was voor een goede nasi goreng of saoto.

Le meilleur restaurant du séjour. Connaissant un peu la cuisine surinamaise, nous nous sommes aventurés ici. Et franchement c'est magnifiquement bon. Les saveurs sont aux rendez-vous. Mention spéciale pour la pinda sauce qui est délicieuse. Allez-y vite !

Vengo aquí a veces para pedir comida para llevar holandesa indonesia. Por solo más de 20 euros, generalmente, pido el Gado Gado Special (ensalada indonesia con una salsa de maní realmente bastante * mágicamente sabrosa *, con 2 palitos de satay) y el Tahu Lontong Ayam (una maravillosa mezcla de tofu, taugeh o brotes, Lontong o cocidos y luego al vapor pequeños bloques de arroz y pequeñas rebanadas de pollo, otra vez con otra maravillosa mezcla de salsa de soja, chile, etc. Recomendado para los amantes de la comida indonesia (y también hay algunas mesas en este Warung, para aquellos que prefieren comer). ¿¿Recomendado??.
