Waterfront Vlietland in Stompwijk

Never order the chicken satay here! The worst chicken satay I have ever had: totally tasteless, bland, and with a very strange, spongy texture. When we commented on this, there was barely any response. Zero leniency, no apologies, and just making us pay full price for food that was inedible. Very disappointing and absolutely not unfriendly to customers.

The best spot around the Vlietlanden, a lovely place to sit, eat, and have a drink; the dishes are good, the service is young, dynamic, and friendly. In nice weather, you can sit on the island with picnic tables; they serve the best Irish Coffee and iced coffee here. I love coming here and drag everyone along.

Very lovely place at water edge with pretty views. Food is good but portions are small in relation to price. We ordered a risotto and it was a one smallscoop of rice with few mushrooms and covered with salad for 15 euros. More an appetizer really. Kitchen would not do anything about it. Otherwise nice place.

Over the past few months, I have eaten dinner very regularly in the evenings after a day of sailing. Around dinnertime, especially during the high season, it can get busy. I haven't experienced a wait for a table yet. Half an hour later, the worst of the rush is over. If it is extremely busy, you are informed of a longer wait for your order. But in such surroundings, it is not at all a problem to spend that time with a nice drink or cocktail. The staff is mostly 'young', very friendly, and the service is quick. Nice menu. Delicious coffee. Going for lunch soon. Dress code: beachgoers, flip-flops, bare feet, anything goes. Oh, and dogs are welcome too.

Been to the Waterfront many times and always enjoyed it. Unfortunately this time the attitude of the waitress spoilt our evening. "What do you want"... when asking for our drink order, not even "hello or "Hi".....not sure what her problem was but it's put us off returning.

A really lovely spot for a summer day! You sit wonderfully by the water here, and the atmosphere is instantly cozy. You can even come here on your SUP or moor your boat to enjoy a meal or get takeout. There are incredibly nice seating areas, including a sort of small island, which makes it a truly special place. The food is tasty, the service is friendly, and everything just feels relaxed and cozy. For parking, it is best to park at the beach. There is almost always a spot there, and from there it is only about a 2-minute walk to the restaurant. All in all, highly recommended, especially when the weather is nice. A perfect place to sit by the water, have a bite to eat, and just enjoy yourself! 🌞🌊🍽️

Great for groups! Good food and drinks menu with a bit of everything. The atmosphere is fantastic, view of the water, good mix of sun and shade. The service was a highlight! Anouk & team were amazing!

Tasty, but very thinly filled. The bottom bun was half empty. Beautiful location. Some staff members' calling does not lie in hospitality, while others certainly do. If you cannot smile at customers but immediately clear away empty glasses with your grumpy look without asking if they might want something else, you really need to find something else to do. Other staff are friendly, cheerful, and polite. You make this place even better.

Always a lovely place to enjoy a nice lunch on the terrace by the water.

The restaurant doesn't have a good fry cook, and neither does the snack bar on the side. The same kitchen, it seems to me. The snack bar is very business-like. You can order and pay in advance via a terminal. I got a small container with very few fries in it. More than 4 euros! The fries themselves were translucent, so they had been deep-fried multiple times. Unfortunately, not a real fries experience. I have some stomach cramps now too...

Bad hamburgers, long waiting times

Having to wait over 45 minutes for the food on a weekday. A simple burger. After waiting that long, you think, "Yes," but unfortunately not. No brioche bun, burger very overcooked, the cheddar quite burnt, and the fries mega salty. As a 'solution/suggestion,' I could choose something else. Given the experience with waiting, I didn't dare order the same dish again. Crispy chicken sandwich. This was on the table in less than 6 minutes. (Yes! =) Only the bun was rock hard. When paying the bill; I still had to pay the full price despite the mega long wait.. Unfortunately, not a pleasant experience 😔 despite the nice weather.

Beautiful spot by the water, friendly, and the food was great!! We were staying in the marina, so that combination is fantastic.

Sunday, July 12, I bought 2 coffees in a cardboard cup, 1 apple juice, and 4 filled cookies to take with me on the boat. I had to pay €26.20 for this!!! I was shocked by the price! This is really not normal; how dare they ask for that? It is truly scandalous beyond words. This was the first time, but also the last time. I feel really ripped off.

A lovely stay, a nice breath of fresh air for a reasonable price. The boat tour to Warmond was also a more beautiful experience.

The location is great, but unfortunately, that is about all there is to say. An irritated lady at reception because she couldn't find our reservation, even though we had a confirmation. We were eventually given a table amidst grumbling. Subsequently, we had to ask for everything: the menu, drinks; it seemed as if no one was paying attention to our table. We waited an extremely long time for our food, but when we asked about it, the answer was "It's on the menu, so it will be here soon." Right... Unfortunately, the food was inedible; the bread was so tough it was impossible to chew. But this was met with an irritated reaction as well, instead of, for example, offering a apology or removing it from the bill. We will certainly not bother these people again!

Truly a terrible experience. The service was very disappointing. One of the waitresses was very unfriendly towards us. She spoke curtly, seemed irritated, and made us feel unwelcome. What struck me most was that she acted friendly and helpful towards other tables, while treating us very differently. That felt disrespectful and made the whole experience very unpleasant. The food took far too long to arrive, and the poor service ruined the evening for us. Unfortunately, we will not be returning here and cannot recommend this restaurant.

We sailed there by boat. Had a delicious meal, cozy atmosphere, nice staff, very friendly and polite. We will definitely go back. We did make a reservation.

The absolute worst place! If you want to eat or drink something, this is the wrong place. There are plenty of servers, but they just wander around the tables doing nothing. After half an hour, we finally got a menu, but no one came to take our order. So we went to the kiosk next door. They were just as unmotivated; one of our drinks was ordered incorrectly, and we completely forgot about our food. The parking situation is also a disaster.

...Waterfront... Located directly opposite Voorschoten on the other side of the Vliet,...but strangely enough part of Leidschendam, which lies 3 km away... A beautiful location on Vlietland, a water-rich area with beaches, water sports, a climbing island, and of course, the "Waterfront" restaurant. You can sit here comfortably, enjoying the view and the activity on the water. Perfect for lunch, and an extensive lunch menu is available. From a simple "two croquettes with bread" lunch to a "tasting platter" curated by the chef. Highly recommended, and they do their best to present the dishes nicely as well. The service is friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a visit...

Very good food and nice staff. Very hospitable and a beautiful place.

We were 6 adults and 3 children. The 1-star service does not apply to the young waitresses; they were friendly and efficient. After more than an hour, an indifferent man came to report that the sushi was sold out. Instead of compensating for this with a basket of bread, because we—and especially the children—were hungry, he didn't know how fast to run away. The rest of the food had clearly been kept warm and had consequently gone stale. Nothing was deducted from the bill either, for the long wait and no sushi. We will not be visiting Waterfront a second time; we are going to advise everyone against it.

Actually, it was very good, however, at first we were seated next to some Dutch ruffians or drunk people who were shouting very loudly. Unfortunately, good manners can't be learned later in life. The food and service were very good. Attentive and something special... We'll come again next time, hopefully without any "unpleasant seatmates".

Went here on a warm Sunday for a drink and a snack. As expected, the terrace (with a beautiful view over the lake) was packed, but luckily we still found a spot. First in the sun, but then we were able to move to a shady spot. The staff kept walking around with a smile and immediately indicated upon ordering that the food might take longer due to the crowds. Had a great smoothie; definitely worth a repeat visit.

A really nice location to go for dinner with a view of the water, where it was pleasantly busy due to the warm ☀️ 28 degrees, but it did take a very long time before we got our food, 45 minutes.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a good experience at this lovely place. Although it is a lovely spot by the water, you certainly shouldn't eat there. We had a bread roll with herb butter as a starter. By the time it arrived, I had already forgotten that we had ordered it. When the food finally arrived after an hour and a half—salmon with noodles—it was practically cold. The waitress took it away and I quickly got a new plate, but by then the salmon was still completely raw. After the waitress had taken it away again, she came back even faster with the same plate. It had been pushed into the microwave, and although it was now scorching hot, the salmon was incredibly dry. It was truly inedible. The other people I was with didn't really enjoy their meal either. It certainly wasn't the service's fault. The girls and a few boys worked their legs off in the heat and were very friendly! I will go there again for a drink because it is a cozy place, but definitely not to eat there anymore!!

It is ridiculous that no one from the wait staff came to take the order. Apparently too lazy to work. Eventually left and ate elsewhere.

We ate here tonight with my girlfriend, and unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. My girlfriend ordered a white wine and the Classic carpaccio; I chose the Tuna Tataki and a latte macchiato. I asked if they had syrup for the coffee, but they didn't, which I personally find quite surprising for a place like this, but anyway. After about 7 minutes, my dish was served. For €16.50, I literally got a few lettuce leaves with some small slices of tuna. I looked at my girlfriend and said seriously: “Are you serious or is this a joke?” It was gone in about three small bites. The presentation was like being in a 4- or 5-star Michelin restaurant, but without the quality, taste, or experience that goes with it. My girlfriend indicated that her carpaccio was also quite tasteless and absolutely did not meet expectations. Then came the next surprise: paying over €40 for this experience. To be honest, we felt completely ripped off. In our opinion, this restaurant serves extremely small portions for which you then pay top dollar. The location and atmosphere are fine and it is quite a pleasant place to sit, but my advice would be: stick to just a drink. If you really want value for money, plenty of choice, and food that tastes good, I personally recommend the Eettheater in the Westfield Mall of the Netherlands in Leidschendam. At least there you get something that matches what you pay. It is about 16 km away. For us, in any case: once is enough, but never again.

A very welcome respite while biking through the area. Warm fire, friendly service, good food.

Not only the price but also the time you wait for the food has increased considerably. Last year we already noticed that we had to wait quite a long time for the food, as well as the drinks. But unfortunately, the experience has deteriorated even further over the past two months. There was at least an hour between ordering and eating, even though the order wasn't complicated. It's a real shame, because we used to go there quite often in the past after an afternoon at Vlietlanden.

Today was the worst service we ever had in the Netherlands. 1 hour 45 minutes after ordering no food, no waiter nothing. We waited. No food, No apologies, No explanation. When we complained, ten minutes more they said. Still Nothing after 10 minutes.in the cars we found it hard to explain to our children that the treatment was not because we are Africans. You ruined our day through and through.

We had to wait a very long time for service; my satay was overcooked, almost burning, and extremely tough and dry. The salmon with the asparagus was also overcooked, making it no longer juicy.

It really is lovely here and the service is cheerful, but you shouldn't come here for dinner. The salmon and meat were very dry, and many of the dishes we ate lacked flavor. Furthermore, everything took a very long time. You can't just grab a quick bite to eat easily.

It is a quiet place in the middle of the forest with a beautiful view of the water. Lovely atmosphere and top-notch service.

I recently ate good asparagus here by the water for €16.50. It will certainly be much busier during school holidays, but it is a nice place.

Very nice to sit outside on a nice day. Atmosphere is very relaxed. Service was very good. I ordered the salmon teriyaki and it was absolutely delicious! Will definitely go again.

Bad service. We just sat down on the terrace; waitresses saw us and greeted us politely. It wasn't busy, and we waited about 15 minutes for someone to come and serve us. But unfortunately, no one came. Instead, two waitresses were standing next to the table chatting pleasantly, while we were completely ignored. We just got up and left, even though there were plenty of waitresses walking around. What a shame!

Every Saturday morning, we come here with the running group from Voorschoten 97 and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee with about 20 people. Despite being ambushed, the people at Waterfront remain very nice and sweet. We love coming here. Super location.

Extremely expensive for what they offer. Look at this dish on the photo: for 2 people for €40. Seriously the amount considered for 2 for this price? It's a pure joke.

Me and my wife are having a severe case of diarrhea after eating erwtensoep in this place. Ridiculously I paid 12,50 for a plate.

The restaurant is situated along and extended into the Vlietland lake, with a magnificent view over the water and sailing boats. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy the beautiful sunset on the terrace. The portion of food is small but of high-quality.

What a terrible experience! They served me mini sole! And then charged a premium price! No feedback from the kitchen! Very poor! Very poor service!

Delicious food, nice atmosphere, vegetarian-friendly, and even the dog was welcome. They even have towels for the dog. Fantastic.

Wow, what a find. Was looking for somewhere to eat on our way to Rotterdam before getting the ferry on our way back home. Excellent food, wonderful service and all in a beautiful location.

The food was good – standard Dutch fare, except for the children's meal: a tiny portion of fries with 4 dried-out, tasteless pieces of chicken. Tasty drinks and milkshakes improved my mood 😉

It took an hour and a half for our food to arrive, and we didn't actually get what we ordered. The burgers were way too expensive for a small burger with some lettuce and tomato. The salmon was overcooked. It's a nice spot by the water, but still not recommended.

We had to wait an hour and 20 minutes for lunch. It consisted of a few lukewarm croquettes. Three tasting menus consisted of tortilla with salmon that looked like it had been prepared last week, rendang fries whose fries had been fried at least three times, bruschetta, a mini carpaccio sandwich, and a piece of frittata the size of my thumb that was completely indigestible. After an hour, we asked where our food was and if we could at least get some bread. Of course, we never saw any bread. The atmosphere is very cozy, but I never quite understand why they don't just close off a few tables if they absolutely can't handle it as a restaurant.

The QR code order didn't work on the lakeside terrace. Then a blond employee came over, pretending to be someone who could help us with what we wanted to order. The opposite turned out to be true. We were reluctantly summoned inside. While you want to be outside in this beautiful weather, I clearly find this a drawback of the gentleman who presented himself so genteel.

Waited 1.5 hours for the food to arrive and then the hamburgers had chilli in them which the kids do not like and which was not mentioned in the menu. My salmon was also overcooked. Fine for drinks. For food definitely not recommended.

Service was friendly but inattentive. The food was overpriced and average at best. The portion size was okay, so it was a snack between meals, but they're supposed to be main courses. In short, the ambiance was very good, but the rest was terrible.

Waterfront is a cozy restaurant with friendly staff, but the quality of the food is simply not good. I've eaten here several times in recent years, but the chef seems incapable of preparing the food properly. Almost every dish on the menu could be made better by a simple home cook. The salmon salad is bitter and served too warm. The pre-cooked satay is lukewarm, and even the fries are of very poor quality. These are entry-level dishes that are truly easy to prepare. Buy better and taste your own food. With a few minor adjustments, a big improvement in quality can be made here.

Nice spot by the water, but the kitchen doesn't handle busy summer evenings well. We waited an hour and a half for our main course, with no updates in between unless we asked. The staff was friendly but not very accommodating, and no apologies were offered. I would definitely recommend this place for quieter days.

Nice place by the water for a simple snack

The food wasn't great. I ordered the sirloin steak medium-rare but received it medium-well. The steak, like my wife's satay, was served lukewarm, almost cold. A cold sirloin steak becomes tough and isn't tasty. The chimichurri on the sirloin steak was very good, though. Therefore, 3 stars instead of 2. Dessert: Three people ordered coffee with liqueur, and the fourth a cheesecake, which didn't arrive until all the coffee and liqueur had been gone for quite some time. The reason given was that the coffee was ready earlier... Why wouldn't they bring it a bit later, along with the cheesecake, if the coffee was ready so quickly? Some of the staff didn't seem particularly interested. Some enjoy their work, while others seemed eager to get home as quickly as possible. The place is otherwise very nice. The seating is great, but I'd rather go elsewhere for dinner.

July 19, 2025: Lovely cozy little place by a beautiful lake where you can relax and enjoy a good lunch after a bike ride. I had tomato soup with a 12-hour snack. It tasted perfect, except for the bruschetta (the bread was way too hard). Great service. And a perfect view outside on the terrace.

The menu has some fancy names, but in reality, it's nothing special and terribly overpriced for what you get. Salmon tartare is canned salmon instead of fresh salmon, topped with a frozen croquette. They put so much herbs and sauce on the tuna dish that you can't even taste the tuna. A positive aspect is the friendly staff.

Today I went back after years, and it was a bit disappointing, so no tip. We'd just had a drink and put ours out of the sun. And sure enough: "What would you like to drink?" 2 I'm still sitting there with my almost empty glass to my mouth, wondering what else I'd like to drink. I was planning on having something else with a bitterbal, but I left.

This restaurant which is located right on the beach offers a surprisingly good food and at fair price. Service is a bit slow but the atmosphere is fantastic especially if you are lucky and have good weather.
