Nice restaurant, local and nice atmosphere

Don't expect a fancy place here, but rather a very friendly atmosphere. The greenhouse you're sitting in looks nice and simple. Luckily, it was dry when we were there, as the restroom is outside. Don't expect a fancy atmosphere here either. We found the food unusual, but very good. The service is very friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back.

We ate at the bistro; the restaurant was already full when we made our reservations. The dishes were exceptionally delicious! The presentation was all about simplicity, not too artificial. Simplicity and flavor—there's no better combination! Highly recommended 👌🏻

Pure food in a unique outdoor area

A first time, after high expectations were raised by a review in the NHD (Dutch newspaper). Unfortunately, it will also be the last time. I recognize a lot of what others say, so this isn't a snapshot. The food was tasty, though not spectacular. The amuse-bouche consisted of a few olives and pieces of beetroot with some olive oil (called Alon pickles). The starter and main course were fine. The halibut from the menu was replaced for my wife with monkfish, which was excellent, by the way (for a €7 surcharge on the pork neck on my menu). The dessert (peche Melba) was uninspired and looked like it had come straight out of a Van der Valk restaurant – with a soup spoon beside it, by the way; they don't use dessert cutlery. The cheese board, which also cost an additional fee, bringing the total cost of this course to €17, consisted of four pieces of cheese (no choice possible) with a dollop of fig jam and large chunks of (delicious) bread. The waiters couldn't help but say, "This is a hard cheese, this is a red mold, and that is a blue mold," as if we couldn't see that. Indeed, the different wines were simply refilled in the same glasses, and the waiters knew nothing about the wine other than its country of origin and color. The cutlery we neatly placed on our plates for each course was also quickly removed from the plates and placed on the knife rests, so we ate with the same cutlery for all four courses. Oddly enough, a proper carving knife was brought to the table with the cheese (which I so missed with the pork neck), but again, no cheese fork or spoon. For almost €200 for two, this could and should be much better. The kitchen is making good progress (albeit not spectacular), but the front of house is simply disappointing, and the pricing is far too pretentious.

Whether I'll go back... I'm skeptical... Great atmosphere, but the dishes, plus the hospitality and thoughtfulness of the staff, could use some improvement. I had much higher expectations than the evening ultimately proved to be. We arrived at 6 p.m. and left just before 10 p.m. The food wasn't particularly tasty, while my girlfriend was more satisfied the last time. Our main courses weren't served until 1 p.m., while several other tables with the same four courses were already starting their desserts, which arrived an hour later. "Oh, we'll be right over," the staff said, but then it took another 20 minutes for a very bland main course floating in gravy. We skipped dessert. I didn't think the total dishes were worth more than €35, which is almost double what they charge. They added a lot of water even though we said we didn't need any more. There's more feedback to share, but I'll leave it at that. The staff's surprise at our feedback was noticeable. They could have handled it differently. They did offer a price reduction, which was nice. Perhaps a tip for the organization is to consider what they can offer dissatisfied customers: perhaps ask the customer for a voucher (always helpful, as that might encourage customers to return) or ask about the price instead of filling it out themselves. Next time, I'll try the bistro and see if that's more appealing.

We had a fantastic meal in a very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. They also had good alternatives for my girlfriend who is lactose-free.

We had a wonderful evening with good food and a great atmosphere. A beautiful sunset with dessert completed the picture. Don't tell anyone... it'll remain our secret!

I share my experience about the Bistro here, there you eat: A la carte. And to start with the menu, a lot of choice. The Vitello tonnato is delicious. But everything was great, we were with 7 people, of which 3 young adults, of which 1 had to eat gluten-free. But also for them the food was super... So pure, the right dressing on the salad, the vegetables, the roasted peanuts... everything was with a lot of taste... nice non-alcoholic drinks too and also a few nice wines on the menu. The service was also very nice, well dressed, friendly and professional. It was so good that we went back 3 days later and yes, again a top experience. Also a very good price-quality ratio, I would almost say too cheap.... Well we are going back soon!

Second time and what a disappointment. The surroundings (Ruigoord 'light') remain cool, the greenhouse itself too. But both the service and especially the food itself have become so bad that it destroys all sympathy for the 'concept'. A 'waiter' who is so happy with himself in his actions that his shirt is hanging open for 2/3 (and no, flabby and chest hair are not a nice combination with food) and attention and flow only when someone with experience arrives around course three are not ok. Ditto for things like fried broad bean skins (that hairy outside), or some grilled vegetables in a puddle of something. And puddles are also the recurring theme with the rest of the dishes. No matter how nice and concept-responsible, if all the taste, consistency and possible structure quickly ends up in the puddle, times 1, 2 or 3 it is time to ask Joël to come by again, perhaps with a lot of tips....

We had a perfect setting. A fresh but super sunny spring evening, just in summer time. Then this location comes into its own. The temperature was lovely in the greenhouse. And the setting was beautiful with all the light. Also the interior decoration. 5 course chef plus cheese board and matching wines. One by one fine dishes and also tasty wines. None really stood out. But everything is of a good standard with very nice parts here and there. It was the first weekend of the season again. And you could get used to some of the controls. The students (?) in particular were still a bit unnatural/rusty and not much could be said about the dishes and wines. When the sommelier came several times to recommend another wine/port with the cheeses/dessert, he was very knowledgeable and did a nice job. Remote and in a somewhat special location. But that just creates all the atmosphere! And for us it's wonderful by bike from Assendelft. Will definitely come back more often! Hopefully again with nice clear weather.

Nice place near the A9 Beverwijk, what a good atmosphere here. Delicious food with particularly good flavors. (Why don't I go here more often) At Zacht Staal they have dishes that you don't get anywhere else. Friendly service in an inspiring environment. Thanks!

Delicious lunch with top wine and very friendly service. The dishes are very well thought out and seem simple but are full of flavor and passion. The prices are also very reasonable. Recommended!

The restaurant is very dimly lit and we weren’t able to read our menu without the help of our phones’ lights. And we couldn’t really see what our food looked like without any extra light. The food was ok, a bit bland/unseasoned. Good wine list. The toilets are outside, so we were quite happy it wasn’t raining that night. The staff was friendly, but at the end of the evening (before our dessert) I think their shift had ended as it was impossible to get anyone’s attention as they were too busy having shots and relaxing with a drink themselves. It’s a beautiful location, but I wouldn’t necessarily come back for the food.

About Picnic Café: Surprising place in the middle of meadows. Enjoy those warm nuts with garlic and sage in advance! Delicious vegetarian salads shared; one with fennel and the other with pointed cabbage. Rich desserts. Also nice that my dog ​​is welcome! He was given a bowl of water. Friendly service. Thanks Abel :) A bit of Blijburg vibes, but between small talk. Recommended.

A great location, but unfortunately pretentious and expensive. No menu or prices on the website. That is why we visited the place a few weeks before our visit. Nice informal atmosphere, toilets in a separate toilet shed, old canteen chairs, stone floor in a large reused greenhouse. Everything circular really appeals to us. And suggests a nice no-nonsense menu. But unfortunately that is not correct. When the four of us finally come to eat, there is still nothing on the website. Also no menu on the table, and no price list. Only a wine list with very high prices per bottle (from €42, quickly increasing). Nothing by the glass. Some bottles can be ordered by the glass, but which ones they are and what a glass costs remains vague and is not stated anywhere. Advice and knowledge about the wine list appears to be substandard. The glass of cremant, offered as a 'welcome', is afterwards added to the bill for €9 (per glass!). There is only one menu, a 'surprise menu'. Composition is quite uninspired and revealed per course, not in advance. The price is also a 'surprise' because the staff does not know that either and has to ask first (€59.50 excluding drinks). The courses are certainly tasty, but the portions are very small. The starter of one asparagus on our plate looks very lonely and very haute cuisine. The main course turns out to be a tiny slice of rabbit sausage. A plate with 4 pieces of French cheese is on the bill for €16. Additional bread must be requested separately. What a total mismatch with the nice, informal location. Towards the end of the evening, the staff is mainly socializing at the bar, and the music gets a lot louder. Matching the ambiance but not the pretentious expensive food.

What a special location! But not only this! We ate here twice last year and we thought it was so good, but we went again last night. What a wonderful evening! Fantastic food, super nice service (not that arrogant Amsterdam popie jopie service), friendly, enthusiastic, interested, something you don't often experience anymore. New, very interesting wine list and not overpriced, like almost everywhere in the catering industry! When it got dark, beautiful atmosphere due to many candles. And last but not least, very nice audience or guests!

For us, a visit to Wegrestaurant Zacht Staal was a very pleasant experience. The environment in which it is located, with a grape garden, vegetable field, camping site and flower garden in an alternative way, really appeals to us. For others, this environment may be less attractive. It is an area in development. The restaurant serves a nice four- or five-course menu and supplements it with a wine pairing if desired. We really enjoyed the evening and really felt like guests. However, for the price, the sanitary facilities could have a little more luxury or comfort. To be honest, we would rather see the price adjusted slightly downwards. We hope that this place will not be ruined by those hipsters or those preened and pumped-up ladies who have completely forgotten what enjoying gastronomy is and who think it is more important how much they have spent and for whom I actually feel quite sorry.

Fantastic atmosphere, very nice service and delicious food

Joël raves in the NRC, so who are we... But it's cool. A large greenhouse in the middle of nowhere, quite well occupied during the European Championship match of the Netherlands. Fortunately, orange wine is a coincidence and not really tasty. During dinner it is a fair in hell, heavy rain and bright sun on and off. With the first you enjoy it and it also splashes on your plate. But this is experience people... Collected silver cutlery that you use throughout the meal, wine just goes in the same glass and if you quickly grab a piece of bread, that's completely okay too. Our hostess is great, especially when she is nasty to know-it-all colleagues. And the food? The wines? Oh well, the thought is good in most cases, the execution sometimes... For 100 euros per person with all the trimmings, just do it once a year...

We got the tip from a friend and went there for the first time. We were very surprised by the exceptionally beautiful outdoor atmosphere. The four course dinner was special and very good. We were served very friendly and felt very comfortable.

Price/quality was top, and the location is also unique. Well worth a visit and you can easily drive there. Nice to have a nice meal in the countryside!

Nice location and above all delicious food, all special dishes. There was a choice of a 4 and a 5 course menu, we chose 5 for 59.50 (1x vegetarian & 1x with fish). Wonderful to be surprised like this. Upon arrival, we were very hospitably given some delicious pickled vegetables and a free carafe of water. Price/quality absolutely fine! We will definitely come back. Recommended!!

I honestly don't understand where the hype comes from. I think the price-quality ratio is out of balance. Lots of vegetables, little fish and meat. Fine, but not filling and not appropriate for the price you pay. Matching wine arrangement, where the wine glasses are not changed. So red wine in the white wine glass and vice versa. The same cutlery all evening. All things that I don't think fit the price range of the restaurant. Location nice and nice concept, but difficult to reach. Taxi back is difficult to obtain. I really don't recommend it. The only plus point for me was the pleasant service.

A clever example of transforming a greenhouse into a very pleasant location. Friendly help, we were asked in a timely manner if we wanted anything to eat or drink. And the food was the highlight. Recommended!

We aten plantaardig. De smaken waren prima, maar bij thuiskomst rende ik naar de kast om een paar boterhammen te smeren. Dat vind ik tegenvallen voor een viergangenmenu á € 50,—.

Creatieve, originele setting & (h)eerlijke gerechten

Pohhh, wat een eten! We waren hier voor de lunch en konden niet kiezen wat we moesten eten. We hebben toen maar besloten om er een ‘shared lunch’ van te maken en dat was geen verkeerd idee. Want op deze manier mag je van al dat lekkers proeven. We namen de kippenlever, de feta en de groentetaart (voorgerechten) en de groente die tussen de hoofdgerechten stond. Het eten smaakte verrukkelijk. Alles heerlijk vers en de groente van de BBQ. Als desserts hadden we heerlijke kazen en de abrikozen in crumble met dunne room. De bediening is attent en de locatie zeer uniek en sfeervol! Echt een dikke aanrader!

Het is wel apart , ligt in de middel of nowhere.

Hele leuke plek met heerlijk eten!

Erg smakelijke gerechten, lekker uitgesproken smaken. Veel vegetarisch, variaties. Goede keuze van bijpassende wijn. Fijn personeel. De ruimte is wel wat rumoerig aangezien het een grote kas is, dus hou daar rekening mee. Wel sfeervol.

Wij zaten bij Cafe Picknick, bestellen bij de bar, vandaar service een 2. Een heerlijk pruimentaartje gegeten. Omgeving is zeker leuk, in the middle of nowhere.

In de Randstad en toch midden in het groen, leuke sfeervolle plek. We hebben alleen een prunus clafountis gegeten, maar die was wel heel lekker.

Een hele leuke plek. Zowel in de kas als op het terras. Heerlijk eten.

Heerlijk puur eten, een 5 gangen verrassing menu. Gezellige omgeving en geen overdaad. Precies goed! Komen zeker voor 31 oktober terug of volgend jaar in t nieuwe restaurant. Kortom een aanrader!

Lekker gegeten en heel smaakvol

Heerlijke eten, passend wijn arrangement, top bediening. Ga zo door!

Superplek met liefde voor groente. We waren getipt door Hiske Versprille in De Volkskrant. Het is een plek zoals ik hem graag zie. Ongedwongen sfeer, lekker eten en drinken en een mooie ruwe omgeving. Hier kregen we ook de elementen goed mee ;-) De wind woei intimiderend hard en liet het kasdoek af en toe flink klapperen. Heerlijk gegeten (rokerige gegrilde groenten en een goddelijk dessert) en lekker gedronken. Wij komen zeker een keer terug!

Excellent fare— delicate nuances to a well thought out snd arranged palette. Fresh local farm to table produce. Relaxed chic. I just love Love the vibe. Owners and staff are all so very well-versed in their wines and pairing. I’m going again this week and will post more details. Wát een fantastische plek!! We zaten buiten op terras van het Picnic Café. Mooie gerechten en wijnen. Alles vonden we even lekker! Óók de bediening was top! Binnenkort maar reserveren voor Zacht Staal.

Today we visited this restaurant . I must say food was really nice( you can choose from Vega, meat or fish dishes ) also come pretty quick to the table.We ordered also few rounds of beers and I must say from weissbier was always pretty under the line uuups :) I must say when you come somewhere for lunch and prices are little bit higher you expect that waiter come to your table and you don’t need always go to the bar and ask something .I read on internet that they trying to find personal that let’s hope that then will be different . Atmosphere was also very nice I can recommend this place

Wat een heerlijke plek, zo in het weiland met niks dan gras om je heen! Zacht Staal is menu in de kas, bij de buren kun je op het terras van de kaart eten. Heerlijke, op groente gefocuste kaart, alles lekker. En met een relaxte bediening die je graag vertelt over het project. Dit is echt een ontdekking, en verfrissend anders dan je gangbare horeca.

Wat een fijne plek! Fantastische sfeer, locatie, personeel, en het eten is onwijs goed. Heel leuk!

Fantastisch gegeten in restaurant Zacht Staal in Beverwijk, onderdeel van Landgoed Rorik. Duurzaam paradijs waar landbouw, natuur en recreatie samenkomen. Heerlijk eten, goede sfeer en bij mooi weer eerst lekker buiten borrelen. Gaan dus!

Fantastische plek met fantastisch eten. Je voelt aan alles dat ze goed weten hoe ze je een heerlijke avond kunnen bezorgen. Zeker een aanrader voor de fijnproever! Wij komen hier regelmatig en we zijn nog nooit teleurgesteld ❤️

Gister, lekker op de fiets, eens kijken wat voor leuks hier, op landgoed Rorik gebouwd is. Een restaurant en Café Picknick, naast elkaar. Gezien de tijd zijn wij bij het café wat gaat drinken. Goede wijn en prima bier, redelijk geprijsd. Een lekker klein hapje met heerlijke olijven en warme noten met salie, geweldig. Nu zie ik dat ze nog personeel in de bediening zoeken. Dit lijkt mij wel nodig. Enige minpuntje, de tafels bleven erg lang on-opgeruimd. Dit geeft een rommelige indruk omdat het aanwezige personeel hier schijnbaar niet aan toekwam.

Restaurant atypique situé dans une ancienne serre au milieu des champs. Excellente cuisine, plats originaux et raffinés. Expérience à ne pas rater.

Een van de Weg Restaurant een Sterk Staaltje eten....een heerlijk menu met voortreffelijk uitgebalanceerd eten van lokale bodem....goed personeel en top lokatie...een aanrader dus!!
