Great location, but apparently they have a stranglehold contract with Heineken, which makes the beer menu very disappointing. And on top of that, you have to shell out 8 euros for an Affligem Tripel. That is extremely expensive, especially for a beer that isn't particularly distinctive. Put some good Trappist beers on the menu then; it's a bit skewed that quality has to be in everything except the beer...... (with exorbitant prices)

We ate such delicious mussels tonight. They are highly recommended. Smoked over charcoal. The employee who recommended them to us was absolutely right. He was a very nice employee, by the way. Actually, they are all very nice employees. And they also notice when something is needed or when the pan with empty shells needs to be emptied. Great!

It is such a shame that the nice ambiance and pretty okay meal were completely ruined by uninterested and inattentive staff. After waiting 20 minutes, we still hadn't been asked what we wanted to drink and hadn't received a menu; truly bad. Even after that, everything seemed to take a lot of effort. The only exception was the friendly, young blonde waitress who was on duty at the end of the meal – she made up for it a little.

What an incredibly nice place this is. We had a delicious meal, and even though many tables were occupied, the service was quick and extremely friendly; highly recommended. And what about the location? Right by the water. Truly stunning!

We had reserved a table for 18:30 with 2 children. It started off fine, though a bit slow, but then again, we aren't at the drive-thru. It got a bit too much for my children. Our starter and my children's main course took 5 quarters of an hour after the start of the reservation before we received the food! After that, it took another 20:25 before our table was cleared, and we received the main course quite soon after that. All the fish dishes were sublime. But the steak tartare was much too hot. Preparing steak tartare at the table with an outside temperature of 29 degrees is possible, but the young lady was mashing and tossing for so long that the steak got warm, and that doesn't seem right to me. Perhaps using a chilled bowl with ice would be a good tip. The fries only arrived after quite some time, and only when she—without offending anyone, the ‘older gentleman’—noticed that the side dishes for the mussels were not yet on the table did the sauces finally arrive. All in all, the service was terrible and the food good. It's a real shame because I like coming here or to La Barrage.

Nice location to start with. The waitresses were fine, but I found the waiting time long. The food was fine, nothing special for this price. It was okay for a one-time visit, but I don't think I'll ever come back. The atmosphere was good, partly due to the group.

A lovely and unique place where the staff still genuinely cares about service. The real service, however, should be a smoke-free terrace. We, being asthmatic, were seated among chain smokers (and literally at every table around us), which made us feel much more breathless and forced us to leave much earlier than intended. The food didn't taste any better because of it either. When we mentioned this upon departure, it turned out the left side of the terrace was 'smoke-free,' but this isn't clearly indicated or properly separated, so the smoke still gets there. Asthma, pregnant, or a non-smoker? Stay inside or stay away.

What an atmosphere here, such a delicious meal. From the moment you enter until you leave, such a good impression. The food is truly fantastic, a big 10+. If you have something to celebrate or just for fun, a highly recommended place.

We went there for drinks twice... what a nice and atmospheric restaurant that is... super friendly service... highly recommended!

Last Friday, we had something to eat and drink at Willaerts during a bike ride. It has a nice terrace, and an attentive and friendly waitress helped us. The goat cheese and salami toastie was a great buy for €10. It came with a garnish and was well-filled. The flatbread with rib fingers and vegetables, however, certainly was not. There were only about 5 rib fingers between the double-folded bread, and the vegetables were invisible to the naked eye. No garnish, and absolutely no effort was made to make it look nice. A sparsely filled sandwich, but we paid €16.50 for it. Not recommended, if you ask me.

Nice restaurant interior and setting...but mediocre food. Small portions for a lot of money really. We arrived 15 mins early for table, and I had to repeat my name 3 times to the guy at the desk for the reservation. Also, had to ask for a menu after 45 mins of waiting for one! No apologies. First waiter didn't smile or seem that interested in helping us. Second one later was very polite and friendly.

I was here for the first time for lunch and enjoyed it very much. We were welcomed warmly. The service was quick and the dishes were tasty. We chose the eggs benedict and a croque monsieur. All in all, a pleasant experience. We will definitely come back again.

The food was delicious. The service was friendly. However, I am giving two stars for the service. We had spent a lot of money on food and paid for drinks as well. However, the request for a glass of plain tap water due to my medication was refused. They simply don't do that. I find this very poor. I understand that they wouldn't do this if people didn't order anything, but to refuse this when 200 euros worth of food and drinks have been consumed and it is necessary for medication, I find unacceptable.

The welcome, food, and service were excellent. I'll definitely be back. Unfortunately, the vegetables/salad were missing from the meal. (Is there a reason for that?) I'd prefer vegetables to fries. The staff asks a bit too often if you'd like another drink, if it was to your liking, or if you needed anything else. That's annoying. I pointed this out. After that, it was fine. Eye contact with the staff member was enough to signal her that I wanted to pay.

Been there twice already and it's a nice restaurant

Went there for dinner on January 31, 2026. The schnitzel I ordered was salty, dry, and a whole piece was undercooked. They don't even bother to plate it. Literally, a bare schnitzel on the plate with only half a lemon on the side... they dare to charge €22.50 for that. The schnitzels from the supermarket are better tasting and more tender. Due to medication, I requested two without salt, which didn't happen. With dessert, they simply forgot to give me a whole dessert. We also kept sitting in the air of the outdoor terrace where cigars were being smoked. No, this was not a good experience and I definitely don't recommend going there.

On January 31st, we went to dinner with nine people. Five of us had schnitzels, which were very bad—very salty, dry, and one of our schnitzels had a bit of brown sauce. Two people would have preferred it WITHOUT salt! But that didn't go down well either. Plus, the outdoor smoking area was also smoky inside. So, that was the last time I ate there.

We had a delicious meal on Friday, January 23rd. It's a shame our waitress addressed us as "80+" using "jij" (you) and "jij" (you). Is that your etiquette, or was the waitress not properly trained?

Willaerts relies heavily on being "hip" in Papendrecht and on plates that look particularly good on Instagram. This works, because visually, everything looks appealing and trendy. But as soon as you imagine that trendy plate replacing it with a regular one and critically examine what you're getting, the enthusiasm wanes. The portions are on the small side for the price you pay, the garnishes are minimal, and the price-quality ratio feels unbalanced. This is a cafe with a posh name and beautiful decor, not a seven-course haute cuisine! There's one dish, and it should be a generous portion! The service also falls short. You often have to chase after the waiter yourself, or literally crane your neck to make eye contact to order something or ask for the bill. This takes the relaxation and comfort out of the visit, and politely tipping doesn't feel right. All in all, I don't get a solid pass, but a 6.5, while based on the owner's reputation, appearance, presentation, positioning, etc., you would actually expect a 9.

Upon arrival, the manager rudely snapped at me for wanting to take my coat to the table. The quality of the food was mediocre – the fish wasn't quite cooked through. On the other hand, the service from the ladies was excellent, although I hope the phrase "You certainly don't need anything else to drink" was meant as reverse psychology.

After waiting at least 40 minutes, we received our lunch. The food was tasty, but not worth the long wait. We ordered the goat cheese toastie, but the goat cheese didn't add much flavor. We also had crispy chicken, which tasted okay.

Upon arrival, we were approached by three people and asked to find our own table. After that, it took over fifteen minutes before we were helped. With five occupied tables and three staff members, you'd expect things to be better. (Point of attention.) The food and drinks, on the other hand, were excellent! Delicious, even.

The reception at the restaurant was excellent. There are downstairs and upstairs rooms. We were placed in the upstairs room, which wasn't very welcoming. It had a low ceiling and a mediocre view. Next to us was a large group of loudly chatting ladies who were on a company outing. That wasn't pleasant and made lunch quite chaotic. My wife and I had to speak loudly to hear each other. I couldn't hear the waitress because of the noise. I'm home now and can finally relax. The lunch was quite tasty, though a bit pricey. And the portions were mediocre. My wife was still hungry afterward. The cappuccino was good. The ginger tea, however, had too little ginger, and the ginger wasn't peeled. The service was fast and friendly. We were even helped with our coats.

Beautiful riverside views, but the food and service were disappointing. The crispy chicken sandwich (€14.50) was dry, sparsely filled, and not fresh – for that price, I expected better quality. The dessert (Pornstar Martini Eton Mess) tasted good, but the meringue was very minimal. Wait times were long, and the host was unfriendly, although the waitresses did try their best. Tables are close together, and the smoking area was rather uninviting.

We've been coming here intermittently for years, but this time was the last time. The food has deteriorated somewhat over the years, becoming more run-of-the-mill. The menu itself is still fine, but the price-quality ratio has gone downhill. We ordered a Caesar salad with extra tuna and a salad bowl with goat cheese and nuts. The presentation is fine, but if you look at the "salad" itself, there's little "salad" to be seen, and you really have to rely on the extras. That in itself is strange, because you're ordering a salad. They also chose to serve it with bread or fries (so, chips). We opted for fries and each received one small bowl. You can have some qualms about that, but that wasn't the problem. The problem was that the pieces were all small, hard, almost burnt, and there were no regular fries with them. It seemed like they were the last of the bag or left over from the lunch rush. We obviously raised this issue, but nothing was done about it, not even an apology or a replacement of the contents of the dish. The rest was tasty, but as mentioned, the price/quality ratio is not right. After this disgrace—no self-respecting chef should serve this to a customer, and I'm talking about the fries—we're done for. Plenty of restaurants can serve decent food, so if anyone orders one of the salads, pay attention to the fries and the "salad" part of the salad. It's a shame, but alas.

The food at Willaerts is fine, but relies heavily on haute cuisine-style portions. A salmon steak with a single head of bimi and a small handful of noodles isn't nearly enough to justify the price of 28 euros. In terms of taste, it's otherwise a typical experience of Dutch-inspired cuisine—the teriyaki sauce was mostly sweet, the salmon slightly overcooked, and the whole thing could have used a bit more salt (or, in this case, soy sauce). The various spritz variations are a nice idea, but they mostly contained ice cream and very little liquor. The food wasn't bad, but for what we got, the price should have been half as much. The service was otherwise good. One dish fell through the cracks due to a miscommunication in the kitchen, which meant it took a bit longer to arrive. The wait was a maximum of 10 minutes, but the dish was removed from the bill as an apology. What I really find disappointing, however, is the wall covering in the men's restroom. Why on earth does a grand café named after a painter have a print of a man surrounded by scantily clad women hanging in the restroom?

We had a wonderful meal here on my birthday. We arrived and were immediately shown to our table. Once we were seated, it took a while for me to be helped (we weren't in a hurry, but it did take a while). Otherwise, the food was excellent. The chicken thigh was a bit greasy, but that's just my personal opinion. I did mention this, and she apologized politely. We were asked about dessert later, but we didn't feel the need for it. Since we didn't like the chicken satay, my boyfriend and I both received free coffee. Very polite, in my opinion. A great place to stop by!

We've been here before. It's a lovely spot on the water with a view of Dordrecht and passing boats and ships. The water bus stops right in front of the terrace. We were able to order drinks quickly, and they were served promptly by friendly staff. After waiting a while, we asked if we could also order food. Then we were asked if we wanted the menu. This time we chose the drinks platter. You can choose five from 14 appetizers. We asked if this was enough for three people, but she wasn't sure. In the end, it was enough (especially because of the size of the truffle fries). Otherwise, we would have simply ordered more. It tasted very good. The sticky chicken is especially recommended.

Poor service. After arriving, I ordered a drink and immediately asked for a card, but it never arrived. After 45 minutes, I paid and told them we'd asked for the card over half an hour earlier, but it hadn't arrived. It was a real shame, the staff were incompetent. They had no idea who else wanted a drink or a meal on the terrace. It's a shame for such a beautiful location.

One downside was the toilet. I use a walker and couldn't get down the stairs because there wasn't a proper handrail. I had to go around the back door to reach the toilet. It was between the crates of empty bottles.

The staff at this restaurant are gems. Friendly, attentive, and dedicated. The food and drinks are also delicious (the virgin mixes are also delicious and I highly recommend them).

8.50 for half a glass of wine (Siraz). This honestly spoiled the fun a bit. The food was really good and the atmosphere was nice. I asked the waitress to at least fill the glass to the middle of the bowl (she's worked in hospitality for years). The girl said she'd be scolded by her boss. Disgraceful. This time, we went to a restaurant with friendly staff who understand their restaurant.

Went for lunch last week and ordered a sharing platter for €49, which includes five dishes. The price-to-performance ratio is definitely not worth it, and I definitely wouldn't recommend it. The service is very friendly, but perhaps they should check in with their guests more often to see if they need anything.

As we've come to expect from this entrepreneur, it's a beautiful establishment with a lovely terrace and excellent service. The schnitzel, as mentioned in previous reviews, is fried without any garnish. However, the drink prices are completely out of proportion. Firstly, the prices on the menu don't match the actual bill. Affligem Blond is listed for €6.50 and is charged at €7.00, while Texel Wit is listed for €7.00 and is charged at €7.50. These prices are simply absurd for a specialty beer (how special is Affligem Blond anyway?).
