Zanzi Diner in Binnenstad

The food wasn't very good; the flavor was good, but the meat was lukewarm. The staff gossiped about the guests twice after they had left, so everyone could hear it. I find this very unprofessional. What would they say about us after we left? I won't be eating here again.

We've been coming here for years during our stays in Middelburg. We always look forward to the fish and chips, but this time we were disappointed. The recipe has changed! Instead of cod, there was an unknown fish fillet, which is perfectly fine to protect the cod! However, instead of the spinach (as it used to be: beer-battered, rustic fries, mayonnaise, stir-fried spinach and onion, ravigorte sauce), there was only a tiny, meager salad, and two mayonnaise variations were served in tiny plastic cups. What a shame!

We had a lovely time at this establishment on Christmas Day. The service was impeccable despite our limited English, and the food was excellent, right down to dessert. There was a pleasant musical atmosphere and the interior decor was quite nice.

Grumpy, lax, and rude service, who spend more time chatting with each other than helping guests, and try to close the place hours earlier than the official closing time. "Last round because no one orders anything," even though there were a relatively large number of people, the tables were full of recent orders, and the entire terrace filled up except for one table. It has nothing to do with hospitality or professionalism.

On Saturday evening, an hour and a half before the official closing time, the last round of drinks was announced. There were 13 other people besides us, spread across two tables, each with large bottles of wine in wine coolers. Instead of treating them like guests, the waitstaff spread the blatantly false rumor that there was no profit to be made from these people and that's why they were closing. Besides being mean to other guests with lame excuses to just close, the service was slow and grumpy. They also charged a premium for this level of "service." Absolutely not recommended.

Sat waiting for fifteen minutes for someone to come but no response from anyone and nothing that there was service while the last two times with others there was normal service, this was rude

We were here on September 21st. The mussels were mediocre compared to the ones at the restaurant next door. The service, with one exception, is indifferent: they're just standing around in the back, with one young man really going overboard. He didn't do anything and felt the need to throw papers or something similar at female colleagues. In short, I don't recommend eating here.

We had fajitas, which were truly delicious. The service was great and quick. We sat outside and felt very comfortable. We'd love to come back! Thanks to the team!

If you want a quick bite to eat at the market in Middelburg, this is the place to go. Just don't expect anything fancy, but the cricket salad was still okay. The service was quick and friendly, and the prices were satisfactory for me.

We went here for dinner with friends, but first, two of our friends received the wrong dish. Neither of them eat bacon, so they had deliberately ordered the burgers without it. We pointed this out, but because we were short on time, we decided to just remove the bacon. However, the fat had soaked into the burger so much that one of my friends couldn't eat it. So, we decided I'd swap my dish with his. My dish didn't arrive. So I'd already started on my friend's burger. Then they brought my dish (the quesadilla), and apparently, they'd burnt the first one. They should have told us this earlier so we knew what to expect. It was very meager, with only a little cheese, and the side dishes didn't look fresh. We tried to ask them to return the burger, but because I'd eaten a piece, it wasn't accepted. We tried to explain that I wouldn't have started eating if my dish had been delivered on time and we could see how meager it was. We were also pressed for time. None of this was accepted, and there was no apology or compensation whatsoever. Truly terrible service!!! And the burger was extremely greasy and tasteless! In short, not good food despite the good reviews, and not good service. We are extremely disappointed that they made such a fuss, even though we tried to cooperate and prevent food waste (by initially accepting it, and one of my friends, who normally doesn't eat bacon, now did). The only good thing was the fries.

On a cycling holiday in Zeeland, we ate mussels at this restaurant in Middelburg. A huge disappointment! The mussels were small, and a large portion were still closed when served... and we didn't eat them. Other mussels seemed undercooked, slimy, and inedible. The fries were fine. The salad served was dry, chopped cabbage without dressing. We confronted the staff about the bad mussels, after which they asked if we knew anything about them, saying it was "due to the catch" and "you need a bit of luck." Apparently, we were just unlucky. Unfortunately, we were a good 50 euros lighter. What a shame about the reaction.

The food was very good, excellent value for money. Drinks (especially the specialty beers) were a bit pricey. The service was fine. Nothing special, but they did what they had to.

When we took our drinks, the empty glasses from the previous guests were left behind, along with a dirty table. I also noticed the dirty, torn menus, too dirty to touch. I ordered an Asian salad, but once lunch was on the table, we still hadn't received the cutlery. We paid far too much for a salad that looked and tasted awful. A plate full of limp lettuce, tons of frozen mango, a few onions, and five nuts. Four pieces of pork belly and two pieces of bread were still on the rim. When asked if it tasted good, she said the salad was extremely disappointing, which she could tell because she'd only run out of bread and pork belly. "Too bad," the waitress said, and then she walked away! Never again!!!!

As with other reviews, the staff wasn't very prompt and quite curt. There was little enthusiasm for ordering, and it took at least fifteen minutes for the first order to even be taken, even though only three other tables were occupied. The coffee and apple pie (and fries) were excellent, though!

Mussels Italian style were super good!!

I've been there several times to eat. It was always delicious and more than enough. Returned on July 25, 2025. The staff is unappealing. The food on the plate is very minimalist. We left hungry. We reported this, but there was no response. I'm afraid I'll never go back. Even the floor and toilet were very dirty.

We ordered a tapas platter, the price per person. It was indeed in very small print: pp. The price was 26 euros. So we paid 54 euros, which was definitely not worth it. Lots of fruit to fill the meal, but little variety. For 54 euros, I would expect something different.

We have had Lunch here. I've choosen Mussels (it's Zeeland afterall). My wife had fish. Staff was friendly and did their best to make it all go smoothly. The Mussels were good. Not extraordinary, but good, as they are in most places. Same with my wife's lunch.

At the market in Middelburg Delicious food for a fair price

Nice place on the market square. Ordering drinks went quickly but ordering food took a while. Waiting time food over 30 minutes and unfortunately they made a mistake with one food order. I got my union soup, too sweet for my taste and my husband had to wait another 20 minutes for his food. Not acceptable! The waitress appologized and was very friendly but we will not come back.

I read the review from the previous one and can confirm that. The staff is completely disinterested in customers and constantly retort without any understanding of what's being said. We were already wondering why this particular patio was so empty, but now we understand why. Regular attention to your customers is very important, and that's unfortunately lacking at this location. Oh yeah. The portion of crispy chicken was also 20% smaller than advertised. Luckily, the beer isn't expensive.

We had a wonderful 12-hour meal, fantastic. And my wife enjoyed a delicious seafood salad.

Reserved at 6 o'clock, we were told in an annoying way that they were closed while they were open from 11:00 to 23:00, extremely antisocial, never come here to eat, also very expensive, I go to KFC, even cheaper.

After sitting on the terrace, we decided to have a bite to eat here too. The satay was of a delicious quality! This satay with rustic fries was the tastiest thing I have ever eaten while eating out in the Netherlands. Prices are a bit higher than average, but it was definitely worth it. Service was also friendly, even though they were busy. So recommended to stay here and taste.

Nice terrace on the market. Service is abominable though. The young lady radiated that she didn't feel like it at all. If you ask for water for the dog, that's not possible. Strange that at the beginning of the season they apparently don't want tourists. Seafood salad was good, the fajita is not worthy of the word Mexican.

We ordered a 2 drinks + nachos. Unfortunately, after 50 minutes of waiting, the nachos still didn't come. When we brought this up, we got both the nachos and another round of drinks on the house. We have never experienced such good service!

Nice tent, packed terrace, tasty beers, nacho dish could have been a bit more filled (slightly more varied) but the guacamole was great! Good friendly and fast service.

Nice terrace on the market. However, the service is slow and makes little contact with the guests. Downright grumpy. Had to wait more than half an hour for a simple beer. The staff even wanted to have the last word by saying that things won't go any faster. And while the terrace is not completely full. Very unfortunate. Not for us anymore.

Bad service…. Few Vega options, the 12 hours could not be made Vega (while leaving out a slice of ham and replacing the beef croquette with a cheese croquette is not very difficult, I think..). The waitress literally asked 'did you order this?' without indicating what she was holding. We only got drinks after we had our food. Ultimately I opted for the cheese croquettes, which could barely fill a sandwich. The raw vegetable salad that came with it had no dressing... and even when we finished the food, the staff walked by several times without taking the plates away or asking if you wanted anything else. Definitely not recommended

No idea what the food is like, we wanted to have lunch here, but inside. If not, we were only allowed to sit on the terrace outside. Yes, the sun is shining, but it is only 12 degrees.

We come to Middelburg every year and we always have the burger. It has never disappointed us. Always friendly service. But now an extra star: we are espresso drinkers and we have never received a glass of water with what is actually custom at other places. We won't say anything about that, but it was very nice to get it now. The waiter praised it for it, he himself said that this is normally the standard for espresso. Ober knows his trade. We will definitely be back. Keep up the good work.

Spent a day in Middelburg last week. Had lunch here. Burger was super tender! My friend had the fish & chips. Large piece of gourmet with vegetables. Both dishes came with fries, which were tasty and crispy. Service was fast.

We had lunch today - service is on the point and effective. Steak is worth to try I had this non alcoholic beer. Absolutely recommend.

A bit chilly but there are blankets. The waiter is very friendly and the fajita with scampi was delicious!

Ate here with the grandchildren. They each had a ham and cheese sandwich, the ham was hard to find…. Club sandwich, lots of green food on 2 thick slices of bone-dry brown bread. According to the menu, meat toppings should be available, but here too they are very limited. The worst club sandwich of my life. Certainly not worth repeating.

Something tasty for coffee and the coffee was fine. It's just a pity that there was a 15-20 minute time difference between the coffee and the treats... In my opinion, it fits together (reasonably)... Otherwise at least 5 ⭐️

Weekend in Zeeland with mussels at Zanzi! Nice restaurant and good atmosphere. Extra compliments on how quickly they came out with the food, which is very nice with two small children!

On an exceptionally summery day, at the end of October, we decided to have a drink on the terrace. However, the conviviality prevented us from going home and so we suddenly found ourselves spontaneously having dinner here. What a nice and beautiful thing this actually is. Why didn't I know this, as a resident of Middelburg, I wondered? The food is very good, price/quality is excellent. And what I find very important: the people here are very hospitable and friendly. Had a wonderful afternoon/evening, 'zanzi dinner' is now on our 'we-do-this-often-list'!

Atmosphere among staff not very pleasant, nasty music and it takes a long time before you are helped

It took a very long time before someone came, the staff does their best and they are very friendly. The food is meh, my goat cheese toast barely had any cheese on one side. The bread is very dry, even though it is a toast it could have been better if the filling was better distributed. Looks nice. The same applied to the club sandwich, the chips that were served with it were very tough. My tea had also cooled down very well when served.

We sat at a table in the entrance area. It was very drafty and cool because the door was open the whole time, so we just left our jackets on. The Cesar salad was OK, even if the recipe didn't meet my expectations.

This was now the second time that I have been to Zanzibar Diner to have a nice beer. But what was my motivation to consciously go here for a second time????? The drinks board. . . . How great is that!!!! I estimate that the plank itself is 70 cm long. But when they put it in front of you, you don't see a shelf, but an abundance of all kinds of delicious food. What's on it? Too many to mention. Delicious variety of fruit, various hot snacks, sandwiches, sauces, fried meat and the necessary products from the sea. Something for everyone. Quality and preparation are good. The service is smooth and correct. I really like the atmosphere of the interior. So the next time I want to have a beer with a drink somewhere with friends in Middelburg? Naturally. Zanzibar Dinner. Great meal. Because we had not made a reservation, there was only room outside. With a fire basket on the table and a heater above us it was warm enough. The service was very friendly.

We had dinner at Zanzi Diner today. My wife had the HALLOUMI BURGER 🍔 and I had the JUMBO JACK BURGER 🍔. Both were excellent and we drank the delicious Merlot with them. Everything was very tasty and with excellent service.

The staff is incredibly rude, which unfortunately really ruins the rest of the impression. We were allowed to freely choose our table (2 people), but we were then allowed to wait 25 minutes until we received any attention or until someone took our order. And unfortunately this order was only accepted because we had to proactively speak to someone, otherwise we would have been ignored for even longer. And that even though all the tables around us were gradually filled with guests who came after us... and they were served straight away.

Unfortunately disappointment everywhere. Ordered 2 ham sandwiches and 2 x club sandwiches. The ham was "okay" although the rolls were very hard baked. The club sandwiches were downright bad. Dry thick sandwiches (stale bread?) lots of very thick tomato slices, sparse with the chicken and cheese and 'they forgot the bacon' according to the waiter. After we reported this to him, he brought it 10 minutes later in a container, taken cold from the refrigerator, so that we could add it to the sandwich ourselves. The other guests we were with had already finished their lunch. Of course we reported our dissatisfaction to the waiter. However, he didn't care about that, shrugged his shoulders and walked away after we had simply paid the full price. We also said, take advantage of what we report. Downright very bad!

We wanted to have a drink here after a stroll through the city. Since I'm currently pregnant, I ordered a non-alcoholic mojito. However, at the first sip it was clear that there was actually a lot of alcohol in it. The waitress who served us didn't come back to our table at first, so we asked another one. She told us that she would inquire. After 10 minutes we received no response, so we asked another waitress who then brought me a new, non-alcoholic mojito. The other two waitresses were never seen again, let alone apologized, even though the other colleague asked them about it. The café is beautifully located on the market square and is very well equipped. The service leaves something to be desired.

On our trip to Middleburg we visited the restaurant for lunch. The child is simply happy with fries and nuggets and we parents each ordered the Giant Burger with bacon, onions, delicious cheese and Angus beef. For me, who already has my own opinions and demands when it comes to burgers, the burger was an absolute surprise! The roll wasn't a run-of-the-mill item, but fresh and crispy, the meat was juicy and, above all, finally a place that was able to serve the bacon crispy! Coleslaw and fries rounded out the menu! The ambience also suits our taste, very nicely furnished in an industrial rustic style, but for others it might be a bit too dimly lit. We'll definitely be back!

Because smoking is allowed on the terrace and the staff confirms that this is allowed, I left after one drink. So I can't share anything about the food.

Terribile experience. Worst restaurant in the Netherlands. Waiter was very rude and brought us wrong dishes on purpose because we sat down before asking to. After we asked to bring us the correct order they refused.My grandmother can’t walk long distances so it wasn’t convenient to change restaurants so we ate anyways. Terrible, don’t come here!!! If i could give zero stars i would.

I came here with my daughter and two of her girlfriends aged 14. For some strange reason the waiter didnt want to seat us. It never happed in my whole life.

We ordered a drink first. Then we had lunch, but it took a very long time before we got it, and I also found some of the staff members not friendly at all, not only towards us but also towards others, people next to us who asked for a bowl of water for the dog were very supportive and sighed and it was brought. . I don't think it's very neat. The sandwiches were reasonable, I had goat cheese and expected it to be a bit warm, but this was not the case. They also indicated that they had a shortage of staff, but you can and should still be friendly to the customer.

During our family trip in beautiful Middelburg, we made a reservation for 11 people at Zanzi Diner. Super friendly welcome and first had a few drinks with delicious apple pie and Zeeland bolus. Then we did a tour of Middelburg, sailed and then back to Zanzi Diner for dinner. It was, in a word, great. Staff very friendly and hospitable. Owner Dylan also came to inquire with us several times and we even got something "on the house". We had a great day. THANK YOU!

Not so friendly service. Took forever for our table to be cleaned. Had the feeling that they were missing at least 1 waiter. Food was served after quite a long wait and then we had to wait another 5 minutes for cutlery. The food was still quite tasty, but not great or anything.

Absolutely no recommendation. We had to wait 50 minutes for our food + an eternity before we could even order because the waiters actively ignored us. Even when we spoke to them as they walked past, the waiters consistently continued on. You could see them chilling on their cell phones in the kitchen and sitting around instead of serving their customers. (Service should actually get 0 stars!) When the food arrived, it was actually quite okay in terms of quality and preparation. The atmosphere inside was a lot too loud, so you had to shout to communicate. All in all, the visit was a disgraceful gastronomy

Rude service with no intentions to care about costumers. It seems like, they have enough guests, mainly tourists so they can treat them like they dont need them, because they know they’re not coming back anyway. Food is alright, but not good enough for the prices. Very sad, because it’s a nice looking location but luckily there are enough other restaurants nearby which are actually good.

Today we had the Bürger and two Ceaser salads, the Bürger was the best with fries. But the Ceaser salad wasn't that great, the chicken was guaranteed from the day before. The service was nice and it didn't take long for the food to come. I'll never think of eating a Ceaser salad again..

We were here on a hot day around 6 p.m. We got our beers and then ordered food. Unfortunately, my sea bass didn't taste like anything. My husband had fish and chips - nothing special either. When the food came I asked the waitress for a shandy. She looked at me very unfriendly. Of course the cyclist didn't come. Ok... happened. But... when we wanted to pay I pointed it out to her. There was no apology or other offer AND I was still billed for the Radler! (Unfortunately, we were only able to find out later when we did the math in our heads, because we didn't get a proper invoice either, just the receipt). Absolute impudence! Paying for something you don't get! 1 star for service because 0 doesn't exist!
