We went in to ask if a table was available, but from the very first moment, the waitress treated us poorly. Her attitude was more that of a police officer than someone in customer service. I hope this wasn't because we're not Dutch. She invited us to leave instead of welcoming us. Ultimately, we decided to leave. Very disappointing customer service.

We had a terrible experience at Zanzibar. Everything took a long time. We really had to ask the staff to order drinks, for example. The carpaccio was literally covered in arugula and had far too much sauce on the meat. The tenderloin was delicious, definitely not tough. What really bothered us was the attitude of the staff, especially the woman with the bun… blonde… she treated others really rudely… we couldn't get out fast enough. Also, when we were paying, we were completely disinterested by a woman who spoke little Dutch. So we didn't feel the need to inform her or speak to her about this. Please do something about this.

A very good and pleasant restaurant. Excellent menu and a superb drink selection. A charming atmosphere that invites you to a pleasant stay. Hospitality and expertise are paramount here. Situated in a beautiful, picturesque spot in Middelburg, the capital of Zeeland. We highly recommend paying this restaurant a visit. You certainly won't regret it.

We had a delicious meal, but the appetizer was so large that we struggled with the main course. The service could also use some attention at the end of the evening, as they were mostly focused on one side of the terrace. Nevertheless, the meal was delicious.

Fast service, delicious cake. Beautiful location overlooking the Grote Markt. The waiters' beer knowledge could use some improvement. Pouring a "Kasteelbier" into a Duvel glass isn't allowed in Belgium. Apparently, it is in the Netherlands.

After enjoying a drink on the terrace, we had a delicious meal here. I opted for a burger and satay, which were nicely served by friendly staff.

I've been twice and really enjoyed it. Very tasty and more than enough. Not the biggest menu, but still plenty of choice. I recommend the Asian wok with chicken or beef.

Worst service ever! Cocktails were absolutely awful, and the service was incredibly rude. The staff could use some training, except for the Spanish bartender. But her boss just shouted over it.

Excellent lunch, and it's lovely to sit in the sunshine on the terrace at Zanzibar. The service is good and friendly. Tip: The tenderloin steaks were delicious.

The fish and shellfish platter for two was excellent value for money. It was the perfect option for a late-night snack (8:30 p.m.). The service was efficient, and the atmosphere in the square was very pleasant. This was fortunate, because other nearby establishments offer a slightly wider range of digestifs to round off the evening.

Always cozy, informal, friendly service (not pushy), and delicious (and plentiful) food. Price and quality are excellent. We love coming here; we've almost exhausted the menu.

We had an antipasti platter for two to share. The platter was lovingly prepared with a fantastic selection of ham, fruit, cheese, bread, fish, etc. Highly recommended.

The food wasn't anything special. The tenderloin was tough, the burger lacked flavor, and the fries were mostly small, rock-hard chunks. The portions were more than adequate. However, I didn't finish everything. After ordering drinks, it took a long time for them to arrive. The food did arrive very quickly after ordering, which probably explains the taste and quality.

We ordered a fish and meat platter to share. More than enough for two people. The ingredients were incredibly good, and I can honestly say I've never had such a delicious platter. Hats off to the chef. The staff was also very friendly. We'll definitely be back!

A very nice and cozy place to spend time during the day and in the evening

We had a delicious satay skewer and saw our wife and children enjoying the delicious fries, pancakes, fish and chips and salad.

Unfriendly service!!! Staff didn't even ask if everything was to your liking! Mussels for two people! Eating from one mussel pot!!! Small mussels, only slightly warm!! Lots of flies around the table!! No friendly look when clearing the table! Not a kind word, it was delicious!! Not worth repeating!!

I was yelled at while ordering. I've never experienced such unfriendly service anywhere. A disaster!! The (full-time) lady was very aggressive. I ordered shrimp croquettes from the menu. The food in the photo arrived. The croquettes were a side dish. Cost: €17.

The atmosphere was nice, only there was 1 server who was not friendly to me and a few friends, she also said at one point to a colleague that she was completely done with us while we were normal and respectful to the employees

Following up on my very positive review from 2024: Today, the staff (a fat blonde barking at customers) spoke poor English, leading to a misunderstanding. We immediately turned around. Too bad. Review from 2024: Welcoming lunchtime restaurant in the city center. Varied menu with hearty and fresh dishes. I recommend the vegan dishes and a lovely seafood salad. The staff speaks English. A good lunch break.

Today, the bad experience cancels out the previous good ones, and I see that other reviews confirm mine. Very poorly received, very unpleasant and rude waitress who turns her back on you. It's a shame because I wouldn't recommend this restaurant, even though it's well located and served delicious dishes at reasonable prices. Too bad, I went to Greenwoods, very well received, great waitress, and very good food.

Everything was great. I had baked mussels and fries. They were delicious. Unfortunately, there was a lot of smoking around us and the tables were very close together. Otherwise, I'd be happy to go back.

Even if the landlady was right about the matter, I want to be recognized as a guest and treated/addressed politely. That's how she might address drunks during a fight... Absolutely wrong!

Terrace in the sun with fairly smooth service.

The food in the Zanzi Restaurant was really tasty - unfortunately that's the only positive thing we can say. The staff was unfriendly, we were ignored by the waitresses and didn't feel welcome at all. It almost seemed like we had to beg to be allowed to order anything at all. As an additional negative experience, the toilet smelled like hell - absolutely unpleasant. With such an overall picture, even good food no longer helps. For us it's clear: never again.

Tasty food, good furnished inside with comfortable seats. The down points: the waiters look kind of stressed and in bad mood; it felt cold inside, really unpleasant and air draws between the opened kitchen door and the front door. The waitress' answer was " I can't do anything, it's not the same as Friday/ Saturday, then it's warm" ! I hope the managment will get the message and do something!

We went there for dinner with the children and ate inside. Great ambience and delicious food. For my wife, who has a lot of intolerances, the kitchen made everything possible. The children's reaction: "That was great!"

Cozy and beautiful restaurant, with friendly staff. Definitely recommended. Also the gas burners incorporated in the tables make it extra cozy.

The gin and tonic was very good. The Thai curry was exceptional. The Angus steak was well-cooked, but the salads unfortunately came without any dressing; oil and vinegar would have been fine. Make up your own mind. We thought it was good—not perfect, but good.

While looking for a nice place to eat in Middelburg, we first came to another venue, but when it turned out to be full, we entered Zanzi bar with hesitation. Hesitation because the terrace was filled with young people and we, pensioners, did not immediately fit in. The welcome was warm and we were able to choose a table. Because of the pleasant weather we had plenty of choice inside. What immediately stood out was the beautiful entourage, African without being overwhelming. Simply warm and atmospheric. The music was good and had a good sound level. After the drinks the menu was brought out and what was immediately noticeable was the enormous variety of options. From simple soup to special garlic bread, to prawns, etc. The main courses from steak, stew to curry and further to a burger, fish or vegetarian. Rarely do you see such a varied menu anywhere. Price-wise, everything was also at a decent level, even slightly lower than average. The pleasant service took our order, ranging from bread with aïoli and tapenade to prawns in garlic oil. The main courses were fried mussels, prawns, 200 gram steak and an Asian bowl with beef tips. We enjoyed it so much, every dish was perfectly served and made with love and care, every dish had its own flavors and the quantities were fine. Also very tasty crispy and brown fries. Both the waiter and the chef had time for a chat and that completed a very nice experience in this restaurant. The four stars for the atmosphere is because it was very quiet inside. Outside on the terrace, on the other hand, it was packed. All in all, an absolute must if you are in Middelburg. Terrace lunch and dinner.

Friendly service and pleasantly surprised by the delicious food and its beautiful presentation. On October 31, you can still eat outside in the evening around the warm fireplace built into the tables. Really great! We will definitely come back again.

Good restaurant on the main square in Middleburg. The service is average, they don't care about the customers. Food is good and prices are ok.

We can't say anything about the food. 20' after ordering drinks there was still no one there to take the food order. The restaurant was not very busy. We left again. It's best to allow a long time to pay.

Meest vieze club sanwich ooit gegeten. Club sandwich gerookte kip met hele harde grote stukken gerookte kip. Taai en smakeloos. Zelfs niet met een mes door heen te komen. Daarbij tomaat en komkommer en een vies smeersel op grof gesneden bruin brood. Ik raad het iedereen af om hier naar toe te gaan. Is je geld niet waard !!!!!!!! Waardeloos.

Terrible!! When you are waiting for a drink, the first thing you hear is “I don't want to burn my claws on your chocolate milk” by a boy. Very rude! Then we raised our hands 6 times to be helped and our plates had already been empty for 30 minutes and we were ignored. Then I went inside to indicate if we could order something more. Then the lady/service came to tell us that she was not served the way we asked. Very rude! Then she said, almost shouting, that it was better to pay and leave. After which she immediately walked inside to get the bill and then threw it on the table.

2 dames zitten aan een 6 persoons tafel. Wij mochten van de dames aanschuiven. De bediening zegt dat dit niet kan omdat de tafel maar 1 nummer heeft, er kunnen dus geen verschillende mensen aan deze tafel zitten. Men laat dus 4 stoelen leeg vanwege 1 tafelnummer! Hoe commercieel ben je dan bezig. Onvriendelijk personeel. Even verder op een gezellig terras gevonden.

Het eten was goed verzorgd, heerlijk gegeten. De bediening was super aardig, snelle bediening. Gezellig om daar te zitten vuurhaarden geven extra sfeer. Jammer dat ik zo ver weg woon, anders zeker vaker daar gaan eten. Echt een top tent.

Lunch was delicious, my boyfriend had a ham sandwich and I had a grilled cheese sandwich. We brought our 4-month-old daughter with us, the bottle was warmed up nicely and even though there is no room in the toilet for changing, they have a suitable solution!

We kwamen zitten op het terras bij tafeltje voor twee. We wilden naast elkaar zitten dus hebben de stoelen naast elkaar gezet. De bediening gaf aan dat dat niet helemaal de bedoeling was en dat we aan een andere tafel moesten gaan zitten als we naast elkaar wilde zitten. Ze wees een andere tafel aan waar nog spullen op stonden van de vorige bezoekers. Waarop ik vroeg of ze de tafel wel eerst wilde opruimen voor ons. Dit bleek niet in goede aarde te zijn ontvangen want haar gezicht veranderde van vriendelijk naar onweer. Eenmaal zittend aan de tafel kregen we een attitude van jewelste. Het viel ons op dat ze bij andere tafels wel vriendelijk deed. Na ons eerste drankje duurde het erg lang voordat er iemand aan onze tafel kwam. Zo druk was het namelijk niet. Uiteindelijk waren we klaar om te gaan en wilde betalen. Na een tijdje om ons heen te hebben gekeken om oogcontact te krijgen met de bediening voor het betalen, ben ik naar binnen gelopen om daar te betalen. Dat bleek niet te kunnen en ik werd teruggestuurd naar de tafel waar we aan zaten. Ik gaf aan dat we al een tijdje proberen om iemand aan onze tafel te krijgen maar dat dat niet lukt, kreeg ik een grote mond van de barvrouw dat dat niet haar probleem was en dat ze geen spullen heeft waarmee betaald kan worden dus… terug aan de tafel vroeg de blijkbaar bedrijfsleider of alles wens was en had aangegeven dat zijn personeel niet vriendelijk is en een attitude probleem heeft. Hij gaf aan het te bespreken met ze. Zo te lezen hebben meerdere bezoekers deze behandeling hier gehad van het personeel en blijkt dat door een te kort aan goed horeca personeel in Middelburg dit restaurant helaas smet hetzelfde probleem blijft zitten. Wij kom hier iig niet meer terug.

Every time we come to Middelburg we have a bite to eat here. Always quick service and delicious food. It was a lot less the last time. The service from the staff also leaves much to be desired.

Ce petit resto sur une jolie place calme et typique de la Hollande nous a conquis ! Serveurs discrets et efficaces, service rapide et salades délicieuses et bien copieuses ! Rapport qualité prix correct. Le restaurant est très propre et la décoration intérieure sympathique. Nous y retournerons avec plaisir lors d’un autre séjour en Zélande !

Used to be a place we liked to go. Perfect situation on the main square. Food remains OK and of good quality but time to be served is just not acceptable. Tasted the Italian style mussels and very disappointed with a very oil based sauce that is not top and gives mussels a taste far from being Italian and sticky. I will and tested better places around the Main square

What a crappy tent. No chance. Terrible service, not customer friendly, they have never heard of clean glasses, they feel offended if you want to know what amount is being entered on the pin. Even 1 star is too much for this disgusting place. And if you ask who the manager is, you get a big mouth. I have never given a bad review to anyone, because I wish everyone their "learning moments", but this tent is beyond help. I really had to get rid of this one. Kind regards to the “serving b*** with her fake face”, to whom I promised this afternoon that I would give a special review for the exceptional handling of guests. And also to the contemptuous “new kids” waiter, with his black mat/tattoos and piercings. Not that I have anything against that, but then this man knows that I am talking about him. Pity the other staff by the way..., hopefully you can hold your own among these curmudgeons. See you never again, 🙋🏼‍♀️ Oh yes, I would like to say that I had eaten here, but the kitchen was a big dirty mess (these were the own words of the server b****) so we were not allowed to order anything. Ps coffee was tasty 🙈
