We have been going to this restaurant for the last 5 years and always loved the food. Very tasty food.

Fresh & delicious every time i visit. The owners are super nice . The traditional Ethiopian coffee is a must try .

We took our family (two parents, two kids ages 7 and 9) to Addis for a bit of a culinary adventure, and it did not disappoint! The owners were very accommodating and kind, and the food was absolutely delicious! They managed to keep the spice to a minimum at our request, but the flavors and textures were compelling nevertheless. This was our first Ethiopian dining experience, but it will not be our last.

Went on a Thursday evening. The food is great and the owners are friendly and welcoming. The restaurant has a coat vibe. It was relatively empty on a weekday, with some locals milling around. Enjoyed the dinner a lot.

What a lovely restaurant, with incredibly kind and hospitable owners who truly care about their business. We had a delicious meal, and they were also very accommodating to our gluten allergy. It was served separately and the (gluten-free) injera was delicious. Highly recommended, a lovely family restaurant.

We had the opportunity to dine at Addis Ababa Ethiopian Restaurant. What a delightful evening! Extremely friendly service and welcoming owners. The food is prepared to a perfection with a balance of spices and salt. One of the best Tibs I have ever had. Other dishes we had were delicious too.

Very tasty meal! Had Ethiopian food for the first time but it was super tasty. The plate is nicely split up if there are two of you and you get tasty pancakes in addition to your main course.

Delicious Ethiopian food with friendly people

Cozy atmosphere. Appealing presentation. Delicious food. The owners have a special ease of making you feel as though you’re a guest invited to their home.

Super harmonious flavors. Even after 15 years, I had the same experience. I highly recommend the Coconut beer. Appetizers as well as plates. Their bread is sourdough. Its base material is a local cereal called teff. Their coffee is divinely delicious and spicy. It can be drunk straight black, I really liked it. I'm sorry that they don't have a restaurant in Budapest.

I have been here several times now and have always thoroughly enjoyed the food. This time three of us chose to share the sambussa as a starter and we also had a lentil soup. The sambussa was nicely seasoned and contained in a crispy dough. The lentil soup was also tasty. As a main course we shared the vegetarian mix, the spicy lentils and the cabbage with potato. It is all served on a large platter on injeras that you also get next to it. Everything was delicious. Because you eat with your hands, you get a wet cloth afterwards, which is very nice. We ended the evening with an Ethiopian tea that tasted like cardamom. The staff is very nice and cordial. Excellent prices for 2025. Would love to come back.

Only love, for the owners, their food, their foundation and the wonderful initiatives that they, in their strength, have managed to achieve! The food here(!) IS the very best you can get in the Netherlands, from Ethiopian cuisine. Prepared with so much love and you can taste it! All my respect for them and I hope to see you again soon!

Very nice (relatively) small restaurant with a cozy, intimate atmosphere. Nicely decorated. The food was very interesting, many special flavors and nicely presented. What blew us away was how incredibly nice the service was, very sweet people who do everything with a lot of care and love. You rarely come across such restaurants these days! Keep it up, we will definitely be back. P.S. Their fruit beer is definitely recommended!

Food and service was really amazing. It was great to have a new experience with the food. Completely new flavours for me. Lady was very kind and made sure we were settled and pleased with our meal. Fair price for the amount of food. Light was a little to dimmed and interior was very simple. Nothing that makes you feel like bringing groups to for a nice evening, but perfect for a couple of smaller gathering for a good bite.

I had the vegan injeras and was really happy with it. The portion is also filling. The toppings also impressed me.

I bought injera but it was horrible 🤮all thrown in the trash. It's definitely an old one, because it's lost all its acidity and smells like moldy bread. It's really not injera; first and last time.

It was not like I order Bonline-eten a payment of 75 euros. It was a heel saddest experience. It smaaked not sweet I ordered food online and paid 75 euros and it was a very regrettable incident and it didn't taste good and we threw it away

100% recommended. I tried this type of food only three times, but I can say this restaurant was my favorite so far. You get a lot of food for what you pay and quality is good, I would say price/quality ratio is fine for Amsterdam. Good service, owners are very kind.

If it is true, they could warn you how big the dishes are because the four of us could have had three portions for dinner. Despite them, the owners are charming, we arrived late and had no problems. They made us the main dish GLUTEN FREE and it was all delicious but we couldn't finish it. Value for money it is somewhat expensive but it is worth it and if you have celiac disease even more so. Advisable.

A small cosy family restaurant on the Overtoom. The owners were very nice and welcoming. The service was friendly and after dinner we were offered Ethiopian coffee which was a very kind and generous gesture. The food though was very blend. I am not sure if they toned down the spices to cater to the mainstream palate, but it lacked character. We ordered the Addis Ababa Special but it felt like a mix of dishes that you order from a tokko and are reheated.

The food was bad and it took more time than was necessary. My expectation, as it took time, was really high but I was disappointed and left a chunk of it before I asked for the bill.

The best Ethiopian food I’ve had not only in Amsterdam but ever! The place is super cozy and quiet, and it smells lovely. Everyone working there is incredibly polite and happy to help. But the star of the show is the food. It is absolutely delicious! You can eat loads without feeling heavy, and it’s super healthy! Usually when I have Ethiopian food I can’t finish my order, but the food was so good I absolutely devoured it. I cannot express how wonderful the experience of eating here was. Definitely will come back.

It is my first time trying Ethiopian food and I love it! We ordered Addis Ababa special (€20 p.p). It is a huge dish with various meat, vegetables, cottage cheese, two types of lentils. The dish was served with injera, which tasted a bit like pancakes. Due to it softness and sponginess, it went super well with the flavorful meat and sauce. The portion was so generous that we were extremely full and satisfied. As for drinks, we ordered coconut bear and African mango juice to go with the meal. Both drinks were nice. Drinking the beer from a coconut shell was a whole new experience for my boyfriend. He said the open rim of the shell brought out the smell the beer even better. The mango juice was rich in taste. The slice of lemon add extra taste to it. It is perfect for someone who doesn’t want to drink alcohol but still want to try something special. After dinner we also had the Ethiopian coffee. It is almost like a ceremony. They lit the incense for us and showed us how to pour the coffee high above the cups. It was a treat to see how coffee trickled down the long-necked pot forming nice foams in the cups and to smell the great scent of it! The coffee itself tasted amazing. It has strong spices taste like nothing I had tried before. Forgive me that I am not a coffee connoisseur. It is hard to describe the overall taste of the coffee. But it is a must try! Besides the food and drinks, the owners are super sweet. They made every customers feel like home. Our overall experience in the restaurant was fantastic. We would love to go back there again and again and encourage our family and friends to try it! Highly recommend 😊

Die äthiopische Küche ist einfach, alles frisch und wird mit den Teigfladen aus Teffmehl mit den Fingern gegessen. Echte äthiopische Küche bei uns ist selten, in Amsterdam und gerade in dieser Gegend wetteifern mehrere Restaurants um die Gäste. Ich wählte das Addis Ababa, da mir die Website am authentischten vorkam und mir das Essen in Äthiopien sehr gut geschmeckt hat. Das kleine einfach eingerichtete Restaurant wird von einem äthiopischen Paar geführt und dke Speisekarte bietet einen kompletten Querschnitt der Küche, am besten man nimmt die gemischte Platte, da ist von allem etwas dabei. Da ein Gast glutenfrei essen muss, bietet das Lokal an, mit einem Tag Vorbestellung die Teigfladen glutenfrei nur aus Teffmehl zu machen, die normalen sind eine Mehlmischung, wobei mir die etwas säuerlichen reinen Teff Injeras(so heißen diese Fladen) am besten schmecken. Ich habe mich für das scharfe Mincet Abish, klein geschnittenes Rindfleisch in sarfer roter Sauce entschieden, da mir das am besten im Land geschmeckt hat, die anderen Gäste namen die gemischte Platte, dazu ein äthiopisches Bier. Wir bekamen eine riesige Platte mit den Speisen, so dass jeder alles probieren konnte köstlich! Und da die Schärfe europäisch gebremst war, brachte die freundliche Gastgeberin noch ungefragt die scharfe rote Sauce dazu. Zum Abschluss muss ein äthiopischer frisch zubereiteter Kaffee sein, im land ist das stets eine richtige Zeremonie, hier kam er frisch und heiß in der traditionellen Kanne auf den Tisch. Dass hierher auch Äthiopier zum Essen kamen und der Gastgeber eine Wohlgahrtsorganisation zur Unterstützung der Schulbildung aufgebaut hat, macht das Ganze noch sympathischer! We came on the recommendation of a friend and we were not disappointed. We've never had Ethiopian food before and it was fabulous. Flavours are wonderful and chicken so tender: some of the best we've ever had. Owners are very welcoming and generous. We couldn't finish it all so asked for our leftovers to be bagged up: the owner gave us a fresh box as we'd been sitting outside. Cannot recommend highly enough.

This was our first time trying Ethiopian food and we loved it! If you are unsure of what you want, try the Addis Ababa Special. It has a little bit of everything from the menu and it is placed on a bed of injeras (similar to a thin crepe). You can tell all of the ingredients are very fresh, even a simple side salad. I have a sweet tooth and enjoyed the Mango beer :) Couple of things to note: 1. It's not very spicy so ask them for a hot sambal sauce on the side. 2. It's communal eating so the meal is placed on a massive plate and everyone is encouraged to eat from the same plate 3. Portions are massive. My wife and found it a challenge to finish the 2-person meal It was surprisingly very close to South Indian food which made my wife and feel a little home-sick :) This place is run by a husband-wife duo who are very warm and makes you feel at home
