We had a tasty diner last night, great food, excellent attentive staff. Must revisit!

After a year of not coming, we truly enjoyed our renewed experience with Amber Garden. The food was better than ever, service to a new and improved level. What a joy! We will be back shortly, in Numbers a 10 out of 10

We had been wanting to visit this restaurant for a long time and had heard many positive things, so this experience was unfortunately quite disappointing. I truly hope this was just an off day. Service was the main issue. It was extremely slow despite the restaurant was not busy at all. None of the dishes were properly introduced; only their names were mentioned. Although we ordered individually, all dishes were served in the middle without any explanation, and the sharing concept was never communicated. The A5 Wagyu was extremely tough and inedible. We sent it back and it was removed from the bill, which we appreciated. The duck was also very tough, and we were told this is how it is usually prepared, but it did not meet expectations. Dessert portions were very small and differed from what is shown in photos. Tea orders at the end were also served incorrectly. Communication was difficult, as the server’s English was limited and our request for an English-speaking staff member was not accommodated. On a positive note, the restaurant is very family-friendly, with spacious seating and a baby changing table in the restroom. Given the reputation, this was not what we expected, and I hope this experience was an exception.

If you’re in Amstelveen or Amsterdam area and you feel like tasting asian food, definitely it is worth to visit Amber Garden! Excellent atmosphere and great service!! All dishes are very delicious and definitely I recommend the duck!! Making reservation in advance recommended! Enjoy and have fun!

Without any notice they were able to cook a whole menu of plant-based dishes for us. It was one of the best Chinese meals I’ve ever had and I’m looking forward to returning to Amsterdam just to dine here again!

We ordered five dishes. Unfortunately, all five arrived at the same time. They weren't warm to begin with, and now they cooled even more.

Restaurant Amber Garden: Amstelveen Last Friday, the five of us visited Amber Garden in Amstelveen. Amber Garden stands out for its gastronomic approach to Chinese cuisine, offering a refined dining experience in a spacious and elegant interior, perhaps a touch on the sterile side, but undeniably sophisticated. Although the set menus looked tempting, we opted for the à la carte selection. We began with a variety of dumplings, accompanied by a Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay from Domaine Chevy-Chouet 2023. The balance between the wine and the delicate flavors of the dumplings was simply outstanding, pure refinement in both texture and taste. Our first red wine, the Nicó Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2022 from Tenuta Ferrante, was a delightful surprise: peppery on the palate, full of warmth and energy. It paired beautifully with thinly sliced seabass fillet, tiger prawns, and the Mapu tofu hot pot Szechuan-style, dishes bursting with flavor and precision. Truly impressive. The second red, a David Duband Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2022, was interesting but not entirely our match. Original and elegant, yes, but it didn’t quite find harmony with the meat fried rice and the okra with garlic, the latter beautifully plated in a circular pattern like a small painting. We made an inspired final choice for the last round: a Chiara Condello “Le Lucciole” Riserva 2018, which paired magnificently with the Peking Duck, a fabulous combination of richness and refinement. Recommended by the waiter, the evening ended with a trio of desserts, mangosago, egg tart, and grass jelly, all delicate and delicious. What makes Amber Garden particularly special is that culinary Chinese restaurants of this calibre are rare in the Amstelveen/Amsterdam region. Amber Garden elevates Chinese cuisine to a fine-dining experience enhanced by a careful wine selection, personally curated by the owner, I was told, herself an ardent wine connoisseur. In short, it is a restaurant that bridges cultures through craftsmanship and taste.

Am's Most Amazing Chinese Restaurant

What an amazing dining experience. I think its easily one of the best Asian restaurants I have ever been. Everything was excellent from the service to the food. Good quantities that can be shared. We were a party of four and left very satisfied

The atmosphere is good, luxurious, and the open kitchen is beautiful. Many exclusive Asian dishes are available. Unfortunately, none of the dishes are quite good enough, especially considering the slightly higher price. But it's definitely worth it to go once.

We dined with six people. The restaurant looks beautiful and sleek, but the atmosphere feels a bit chilly and cold. The service is excellent and attentive, and the menu is extensive. A nice touch is that the menu is a book. You can tell the restaurant strives for class. We had a delicious meal, but it didn't live up to our expectations. We came for the Peking duck. When ordering for four people, we were told it would take an hour to prepare. That's fine, of course, but the portions were still very small. We also ordered two different stir-fries, which were delicious. We had to order rice separately. Although we love spicy food, the spicy dish was way too spicy. We'll try it again soon.

Fantastic modern Chinese restaurant, beautifully designed with spacious interior, top notch food and great wine list. What is there not to like? My favorite 2 dishes from last night came from the seasonal menu which I highly recommend, but really all the dishes including the classic like Beijing Duck are great. A place I always happily come back to!

Small portions, expensive, not tasty

I knew about this restaurant after eating in Beijing last year, and then I found out that they also have a branch in Amsterdam. It is so delicious. Every dish has its own characteristics and is authentic Chinese food.

“The only thing that remains constantly unchanged is the preservation of time-honored cooking methods and traditional craftsmanship. We inherit ancient culinary techniques, and savor seasonal delicacies due to reverence for the laws of nature.“ Doesn’t matter where I travel to, at some point I HAVE to have some Asian food. As much as I love food from every culture I crave for something that is familiar and comforting. ❤️ This place definitely hit the spot! Although hard to compare to the copious amounts of Asian restaurants we are spoiled with here in Vancouver, it was pretty dang good!

Overall great food but some dishes are quite overpriced. A side fried rice at 22€ is a bit much. They could also do make an effort to make the atmosphere a bit more welcoming.

We went there a couple of times and overall food are good and the atmosphere is nice. Overall staffs were friendly and helpful. However we had a negative experience with one staff, both over phone reservation and in person. She seems to have difficulty understanding our questions and concerns, give responses that felt dismissive and not customer friendly. We felt a bit pity that happens in a Michelin guide restaurant.

We had a very fine dinner (as usual) with a great ambiance. Definitely coming back!

I lived in Shanghai 13 years of my life and in Asia 20 the restaurant is excellent!

Always my first choice for Chinese cuisine in the Amsterdam area. Really authentic and cooked with heart. The ambience is nice as well. They offer a seasonal menu that changes every few months. The menu includes dim sum, spicy dishes, noodles, and dumplings. There are also some vegetarian and vegan options. 🌱 The wine list is also well-curated and full of great selections. The service is excellent — the man in the black shirt has strong knowledge of wine 🍷, and the man with blonde hair offers warm, welcoming service.

We always have a lovely meal at the Amber Garden and this time was not un exception: the food was tasty, service was great and the environment was pleasant!

Great welcoming host and delicious food

Food is good, service is excellent, and atmosphere is not bad. But they just don’t deserve the price tags. In addition, the relentless price rise of its menu made us question whether we would return again (probably not).

Food was quite bland and paying over a hundred you would expect a lot better.

Debby is very kind and attentive. She makes the different, she deserves 5 stars. The man with the black suit is very arrogant and has a very unpleasant attitude. If it was our first time in Amber Garden, we will never come again.

As authentic as Peking duck in Beijing

Somewhat disappointing. We asked the patron to provide us with some starters before the Peking duck arrived. We were given some nice options, but were surprised by a starter with Peking duck skin and caviar. Some consultation before bringing the most expensive supplement on the menu would have been nice. The ordered Chablis from 2021, €90 a bottle, turned out to be a 2023. When confronted about this, we were told that the 2023 costs almost the same. As compensation, we received a glass of red wine. Neatly arranged, but it was all just not quite right. The Peking duck, which everyone raves about, was on the dry side. At the end of the dinner I wondered whether this was really worth the €330 we spend. I suspect not.

Goed Chinees restaurant met uitgebreide menukaart. Het is een heel boekwerk met foto’s en teksten, waarop veel mogelijkheden zijn te vinden. Veel lekkere voorgerechten, waaronder Dim Sum en ook smakelijke ossenhaas met tausie saus en Pekingeend. Nasi met gamba’s is ook goed. Beperkt aantal wijnen per glas. Eten is uitstekend, maar niet zo gezellig qua inrichting.

I came to the Netherlands to see an exhibition, and it was the first time in Europe that I ate at a restaurant that was more Chinese and more delicious than my home country. Awesome!

Amber Garden is an excellent restaurant featuring upscale dishes from across China. It's not cheap but the quality of the food and service left us feeling like it was a good value. The service was very friendly and staff is passionate about the food and the guest experience. The sea bass filet soup is one of the best dishes I think I've ever had. That being said, the egg custard tarts were a bit too much on the scrambled side and the yu xiang eggplant was a little sweet for our taste. There's an open kitchen and it was fun to see the chefs expertly preparing the Beijing duck which is the restaurant's specialty. We didn't try it because it takes an hour to arrive after ordering and we didn't have time, but we will next time as it looked amazing. We will definitely be back and plan on this as being our new restaurant of choice when we want something fancy!

Tonight I celebrated my birthday with dinner at Amber restaurant. The atmosphere upon reception could have been a bit more friendly. The first round took quite a long time, about half an hour, while the second round was served too quickly. The waitresses did not pay attention to whether I had finished my dish. For example, I had not yet eaten my baby lotus, but the plate was already being taken away. When the next dish was served straight away, I understood why. As for the food, the second entree, the Homemade Egg Tofu, was amazing. The Beijing Duck as the first main course was fine, and the lamb as the second main course was on the dry side. Personally, I would replace one of the main dishes with a seafood dish instead of keeping both with meat. If there had been a little more personal attention, the experience could have been even better. With a little more finesse in the service they can certainly score high.

High quality ingredients with delicate flavours. Very different from most other chinese restaurants in the Netherlands in terms of presentation and flavours. Lots of dishes from chinese cuisines that aren't commonly seen in the Netherlands.

The food is delicious, good portion for 2 people. Service was friendly. As soon as it got busier, there was less attention than expected. The atmosphere is businesslike and busy, we were there on Valentine's Day (special menu available). It is pricey.

My fav Chinese place in the Netherlands, as a Chinese :) My partner and I had a super sweet story with Amber garden. when we left the restaurant yesterday after dining there, we forgot my valentine's flower there - after calling the restaurant, the boss of the restaurant decided to drive all his way to bring the flower back to us! It was almost midnight and 40km of driving, so we were so surprised and grateful. Other than that, their food has been always so good and authentic since my first time dining there back to 2021. Amazing service, waiters are all super friendly and professional. Nice environment, decorated in both modern and traditional Chinese way. Best Peking duck you find in NL. Seasonal menu always surprises me, especially the chicken broth with Chinese bamboo. Don't miss out their house made Chinese appetizers and dessert!

Restaurant is erg mooi ingericht, al vonden we het zielig dat er vissen in een kleine, kale donkere fonteinbak moeten rondzwemmen. We namen het 4-gangenmenu van €70,= p.p. excl. drinken. We namen er 2 dimsumgerechten bij. Het begon met een fantastische amuse. Zeer gevarieerde en aparte gerechten met originele ingrediënten. De manager gaf een zeer interessante toelichting per gerecht. Bediening is prima en vriendelijk. De Peking eend is inderdaad heerlijk. Het lamsvlees met wilde rijst smaakte goed, maar het vlees was niet echt mals. Parkeertip: gratis parkeren op zaterdag bij de Burg. Haspelslaan. Of bij Kokusai vanaf 18:00 ook gratis parkeren.

Amazing experience! If you are looking for a beautiful setting to try an exquisite Peking Duck, look no further! A Chinese friend recommended me this place and I loved it! Also make some space to try a few dumplings and other starters… they are delicious!

Authentic dishes served by extremely friendly staff. A special experience.

The environment is good, and the overall food is commendable. I'm still very interested in other dishes on the menu. It should be a second brush. I had a different review of each dish including the drinks. First the homemade lemon tea: too sour without a hint of tea flavor or sweetness to counteract the acidity. The ice content is extremely high! I didn't feel the smell of lemongrass in the middle. Hohhot mutton siomai: rich in juice and moderate in taste. fine. Putting the siomai in a tinfoil bowl is also a good way to share it with friends for easy access. Zhizi roasted mutton: The taste and texture of the mutton are good, but it has a little alkaline taste (maybe it is an illusion of eating it with other things). The combination of onions, green onions and mutton is very fragrant. But the whole dish didn't have the flavor of Zhizi roasted lamb. This kind of dish should be served sizzling. There is no heat source under the broiler to continue heating. In terms of overall experience, it would be more appropriate to add some vinegar to this dish and call it stir-fried mutton with green onions when it comes out of the pot. Pickled fish: The taste is right, the fish fillets are smooth and tender, and the fish soup is thick. The amount of fillets was small, I expected half a small sea bass. Fish maw Taizhou bean noodles: The soup is thick and sticky, the taste is integrated, and the temperature is also very suitable. Very nice. Highly recommended! The best dish of the meal. Beef with Tofu: The beef is smooth and tender, there is no residue in the soup, and the taste is moderate. But the tofu was too big, tasteless and not hot enough. It is recommended to blanch the tofu in salt water in advance. The tofu should not be hot enough. According to the standards of boiled Sichuan cuisine, the spiciness and numbness of this dish can actually be a little higher. Double skin milk: The taste is okay, with a little eggy smell. And double-skinned breasts have no nipples! No milk skin! No milk skin! The egg gluten is not filtered! Based on the standard of 12 euros for a dessert, I think this is quite inappropriate.

A wonderful restaurant with amazing menu and delicious food! Authentic Chinese cuisine with amazing service right in the middle of amstelveen! I went with my family for dinner and it was a surprise to me to have such a special place near by where we don’t have to have a long ride to go to a nice restaurant. Now for food, the hot and sour soup was delicious, loaded with black pepper and can be made vegetarian Dumplings and dem sum is definitely the star of the show and probably why i will be visiting again! I had a vegetarian one filled with mushrooms and the kids had a lamb one and shrimps one. All was 10/10 For the main course we all were almost full, portions are quite large so I guess order less as it’s quite full filling. Seabass was delicious and the veggies were so made to perfection!

If you are looking for authentic Chinese food, this is the place to go in Amsterdam! Good atmosphere with great service.

Very good fusion style Chinese food with plenty of choices and flavor, very clean and aromatic place to dine in, location wise is also very good.

I had dinner here very recently and I was disappointed. I don't think the atmosphere in the restaurant is pleasant. I sat over a meter away from my partner because the table was incredibly large. The service left a lot to be desired, I saw staff walking a lot but they seemed to do little, except avoid eye contact. And most importantly: the food. It is very pricey. If you take the king crab, I understand that you have to pay a lot, but 28 euros for a simple meat dish that my girlfriend can prepare even better is really crazy for me. And then I'm not talking about quantity. When I got home I was still hungry despite ordering four dishes! And again it was not special food. Michelin star amehula.

Very tasty food and super friendly service!

The service is great. The food is not delicate as I expected it should be as their front door showed that they won Michelin award in past years. Xiao Long Bao is a big disappointment as the skin is thick and no broth inside. The friend fish with sweet & soured sauce is tasty but the breading is too hard.

The food is sublime. The service could be better. If you are still there after 9 p.m. (Thurs), you will be left to your own devices. Two employees were busy cleaning up the terrace, so after five minutes of empty plates at 9.20 pm, we walked to the cash register to pay. Even then it was difficult to get the attention of someone we could deal with. The boy behind the bar was apparently not there for that and it did not occur to him to call the right colleague.

I am not an expert on Chinese cuisine. I did enjoy it very well. Surprising combinations and good service. Host Fong understood what we wanted and served us a varied menu, quite measured according to the number of people. I was full too. Good experience. The food is definitely worth it. I just think 7.50 for a normal beer is a bit expensive. This is exorbitantly high.
