Lovely experience celebrating my husband’s birthday! We had 5 course meal and were very happy with the service, and the complimentary birthday noodles were such a thoughtful touch. We really appreciated it and had a wonderful time! We would love to try ala carte next time.

Hi, i went to celebrate my birthday at Amber Garden with my kids. The waiter asked if we wanted to start with bubbles. I was shocked that sparkling tea was 11euro each for 2 kids but the prosecco was 9. The food came out so slowly. We had the tasting menu which had very small portions. It was an expensive and not satisfying meal and we were still hungry after. I don't recommend the tasting menu and I would be careful how you order from the waitors. There is alot of upselling and hidden costs. Very disappointed.

This place was awful, if you like soya sauce, then you should go as every dish tasted of it. Also they gave the kids a sparkling tea, which sounded great until we got the bill, it was more expensive than our glasses of wine. Also the food took a really long time to arrive. I and my family will never go here again. It was all about up selling and pushy. I do not recommend this place, for the price they are way better places to dine.

We had a delicious lunch here today. Since we aren't very familiar with Chinese cuisine, we chose the 4-course Compass menu. It was delicious, but at the same time, you see all kinds of other dishes flying out of the kitchen everywhere, and it has made us decide to definitely come back again to eat more! 😁👍

Today we went to eat Peking duck, professional service of the real Peking-taste, probably it is only restaurant in Europe to have real Peking-duck. The servers are very friendly, generous and professional to introduce all knowledge about the duck, Chinese white wines… For us, the dining experience is TOP! Highly Recommend! Sure to go back again!

Great food, friendly service and good atmosphere

We celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary at this restaurant on August 26th. The host was incredibly pleasant and served us wonderful wines. The five-course Kompas menu was exquisite. Our highlight was the peeled tomatoes. They were served in a kind of marinade. We have never eaten anything so delicious. We would love to come back.

We have been to Amber Garden many times, and our latest visit was the best yet. The food had always been great and now it is even better (something we thought was not possible). Our favorite black tiger prawn dishes were both taken to a higher level. The service, which on previous occasions had been a bit irregular, was flawless on this occasion. Excellent! The atmosphere had always been, and continues to be, just perfect.

What a wonderful experience at this restaurant in Amstelveen. Everything was taken care of down to the last detail, and the presentation of the dishes was truly beautiful. I found the way the meat was served, with subtle rose petals on the plate, to be a particularly refined detail. We thoroughly enjoyed the flavorful soups and the fresh dim sum. It was truly an evening we won't soon forget. We will definitely be back here again soon.

Still my favorite Chinese restaurant in Europe. Authentic, premium, small portions, and a higher price tag—but absolutely worth it.

Super nice place. Great food and we've been told multiple times my folks that this is her w their food back home (in China) tastes. That's quite a compliment. We found the food on the pricey side which is fine for the quality you get, but good to be aware that this cannot be an everyday meal. The 1 star less is for the choice of wines and desserts. They have limited wine options, especially if you're in a large group and I typically don't like if I've to have multiple types of wines from the same food. Desert options are limited and weren't that exciting. Which is a solvable problem if you just fill up on main course and starters . 🫣

We come here regularly and the food is always delicious and prepared quickly. Authentic dishes prepared in a culinary way. Friendly staff and beautiful decor in the restaurant.

Overall we had a great food / service / atmosphere experience, however there was some waiting time between the appetizer and the warm course, which was understandable yet we were not informed. If the staff inform the clients about certain dishes cook timing, it will be all fabulous.

The food is delicious, and the service is warm, friendly, and attentive. Unfortunately, the dessert was disappointing. The “Chinese milk” dessert listed on the menu for €12 does not match its presentation at all — neither in appearance nor in portion size. What arrived was a very small serving (about 3 tablespoons), far from what is shown on the menu, yet still charged at the full price....

Calm, beautiful and cozy place. The food was so good! the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. We went there to celebrate my husband's birthday - it was such a lovely evening! We took the 4 course menu. Super tasty. We are going to visit the Amber Garden again to try the a la carte menu.

The food was amazing, but the service was poor. We were seated an then ignored. Two other tables were seated after us and had their drinks and orders taken before we were asked about drinks. We ordered a bottle of wine and had to ask for someone to open it after our mains were served. And then for very refill of the glass, we needed to flag someone down to request it. We found that level of service very disappointing. There was a very loud party in the room next to where we were seated and a very drunk person walking in and out. That is why I ranked the atmosphere low.

The food is fine. But at a restaurant in this price range, I expect somewhat more enthusiastic staff who give guests a truly warm welcome. Unfortunately, I only felt that from one lady; the rest just did their job. They did nothing wrong, but besides the food and basic service, you expect just a little more hospitality.

Most importantly, yes, the food is good and yes, it tastes as good as in China. What's striking, not a problem in itself, is that not everyone speaks Chinese there. The soup was mostly large, completely dried-out chunks of meat, which isn't how it should be. The service is generally friendly, but doesn't offer recommendations when asked. Everything is equally good, which isn't what a customer wants to hear when they ask for help with a choice. The location is great, with several parking spaces around the corner and a few more nearby. The biggest issue with this restaurant is the price. The food is delicious, but the asking price is ridiculous. 44 euros for a small bowl of fried rice as a side dish is truly outrageous. Many prices are about twice as high as they should be. Yes, lobster can be expensive, but 100 euros? Just make that a maximum of 55 or so. And so on.

It was a delightful diner. Very fine taste. I’ll give 9 of 10 for the food. The place and service is good. 👍👍

First time at this location and I must say I was happily surprised by the food, staff and ambiance. The menu is quite large and offer a good selection based on your budget. Staff is very attentive and makes sure you not missing on anything. We will be back !

Very interesting and nice restaurant. Went here because it was Michelin star restaurant. The environment and service is unique and the food is also great. Recommend to try if you’re interested in eating Chinese food in a new style.

The food was delicious. The celery salad was surprisingly delicious. I'm not a big fan of celery myself, but this one tasted wonderfully fresh. The combination of tender lamb with cumin and pepper was also very good. Everything is mainly focused on meat and fish. I personally miss some vegetables in the main course, even if it's just a small side dish. Furthermore, the portions are large enough to leave you satisfied. Very friendly service and well-priced. Portions are served quickly and also collected quickly as soon as you're finished. This could use a bit more of a relaxed atmosphere. It's not a problem to have to wait a bit for your turn. We had a great evening!

One of the best Chinese cuisine I had in Europe by far. The beef tripe pot was very flavorful, unlike being plainly spicy (Sichuanese restaurants in Europe tend to be like this), the flavors were layered with complex. The Xiaolongbao was a bit thick in the dough, but the filling was very juicy and the pork odor was removed properly. The Peking duck offered crispy skin and tender meat, served with authentic Beijing styled semi sweet bean paste (a lot of European restaurants simply served Hoisin sauce but it is not the authentic way). A small suggestion that could improve the dining experience is that the spicy and heavy in flavor dishes are better served last, because after we ate the beef tripe pot, our taste buds became numb and couldn’t taste the duck to the fullest.

Almost every dish exceeded my expectations. The spicy chicken was enhanced with peanuts and mushrooms, adding layers of flavor rather than just pure spicy. The fried lamb chops were crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and paired perfectly with the dipping sauce. The marinated mixed seafood was very fresh, with a well-balanced and tasty sauce. The interior decor feels upscale, and the service was excellent. This is a place that I would like to be back soon to try more dishes. The nearest street parking costs fixed 16 euros for 4 hours, which is inconvenient. They seem to provide a free parking ticket for 2 hours at a nearby Qpark.

Because of the Michelin star and its prestigious price, I had high expectations for this restaurant. We ordered many dishes, but none were particularly satisfying. The raw marinated shrimp tasted stale, despite the restaurant repeatedly emphasizing its freshness. The lamb shumai was nothing like shumai; it was more like lamb soup dumplings. The soup was also very bland, as if they forgot to add salt. The crispy duck was fine overall, but just average. The only decent dish was the sauerkraut fish; the sauerkraut was very refreshing. However, the dessert was terrible—too sweet and with an artificial rose flavor.

This is my second visit at Amber Garden. The experience this time is a bit disappointing. They have expanded their menu extensively, while the quality of dishes dropped a lot compared with last time. Moreover, despite the claim of "authentic Chinese food", they put paprika in 辣子鸡 (Dry Chili Chicken). What an innovation!

Food: A lovely restaurant with authentic Sichuan cuisine. We had the Dry stir-fried green bean & cauliflower, Amber-style fried rice, Stir-fried beef tenderloin, and the Amber Beijing roasted whole duck. The vegetables, beef, and duck were delicious. A few caveats: The white rice seemed undercooked (dry). When I asked for the duck, I was told there was only one whole duck, but now I see they had half a Hangzhou duck. I was told it was a baby duck, but I only realized later that it was small. The menu is original and creative, like a book, beautifully designed, but I lost track of all the dishes because sometimes only one dish was depicted per side. Service: Excellent! Atmosphere: I understand that the restaurant is trying to appeal to a certain segment of the market and exudes class, also with the Michelin-starred plates outside, but the atmosphere feels rather cold and businesslike, partly due to the strict arrangement of the tables.

We had been wanting to visit this restaurant for a long time and had heard many positive things, so this experience was unfortunately quite disappointing. I truly hope this was just an off day. Service was the main issue. It was extremely slow despite the restaurant was not busy at all. None of the dishes were properly introduced; only their names were mentioned. Although we ordered individually, all dishes were served in the middle without any explanation, and the sharing concept was never communicated. The A5 Wagyu was extremely tough and inedible. We sent it back and it was removed from the bill, which we appreciated. The duck was also very tough, and we were told this is how it is usually prepared, but it did not meet expectations. Dessert portions were very small and differed from what is shown in photos. Tea orders at the end were also served incorrectly. Communication was difficult, as the server’s English was limited and our request for an English-speaking staff member was not accommodated. On a positive note, the restaurant is very family-friendly, with spacious seating and a baby changing table in the restroom. Given the reputation, this was not what we expected, and I hope this experience was an exception.

If you’re in Amstelveen or Amsterdam area and you feel like tasting asian food, definitely it is worth to visit Amber Garden! Excellent atmosphere and great service!! All dishes are very delicious and definitely I recommend the duck!! Making reservation in advance recommended! Enjoy and have fun!

Without any notice they were able to cook a whole menu of plant-based dishes for us. It was one of the best Chinese meals I’ve ever had and I’m looking forward to returning to Amsterdam just to dine here again!

We ordered five dishes. Unfortunately, all five arrived at the same time. They weren't warm to begin with, and now they cooled even more.

Restaurant Amber Garden: Amstelveen Last Friday, the five of us visited Amber Garden in Amstelveen. Amber Garden stands out for its gastronomic approach to Chinese cuisine, offering a refined dining experience in a spacious and elegant interior, perhaps a touch on the sterile side, but undeniably sophisticated. Although the set menus looked tempting, we opted for the à la carte selection. We began with a variety of dumplings, accompanied by a Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay from Domaine Chevy-Chouet 2023. The balance between the wine and the delicate flavors of the dumplings was simply outstanding, pure refinement in both texture and taste. Our first red wine, the Nicó Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2022 from Tenuta Ferrante, was a delightful surprise: peppery on the palate, full of warmth and energy. It paired beautifully with thinly sliced seabass fillet, tiger prawns, and the Mapu tofu hot pot Szechuan-style, dishes bursting with flavor and precision. Truly impressive. The second red, a David Duband Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2022, was interesting but not entirely our match. Original and elegant, yes, but it didn’t quite find harmony with the meat fried rice and the okra with garlic, the latter beautifully plated in a circular pattern like a small painting. We made an inspired final choice for the last round: a Chiara Condello “Le Lucciole” Riserva 2018, which paired magnificently with the Peking Duck, a fabulous combination of richness and refinement. Recommended by the waiter, the evening ended with a trio of desserts, mangosago, egg tart, and grass jelly, all delicate and delicious. What makes Amber Garden particularly special is that culinary Chinese restaurants of this calibre are rare in the Amstelveen/Amsterdam region. Amber Garden elevates Chinese cuisine to a fine-dining experience enhanced by a careful wine selection, personally curated by the owner, I was told, herself an ardent wine connoisseur. In short, it is a restaurant that bridges cultures through craftsmanship and taste.

What an amazing dining experience. I think its easily one of the best Asian restaurants I have ever been. Everything was excellent from the service to the food. Good quantities that can be shared. We were a party of four and left very satisfied

The atmosphere is good, luxurious, and the open kitchen is beautiful. Many exclusive Asian dishes are available. Unfortunately, none of the dishes are quite good enough, especially considering the slightly higher price. But it's definitely worth it to go once.

We dined with six people. The restaurant looks beautiful and sleek, but the atmosphere feels a bit chilly and cold. The service is excellent and attentive, and the menu is extensive. A nice touch is that the menu is a book. You can tell the restaurant strives for class. We had a delicious meal, but it didn't live up to our expectations. We came for the Peking duck. When ordering for four people, we were told it would take an hour to prepare. That's fine, of course, but the portions were still very small. We also ordered two different stir-fries, which were delicious. We had to order rice separately. Although we love spicy food, the spicy dish was way too spicy. We'll try it again soon.

My favorite 2 dishes from last night came from the seasonal menu which I highly recommend, but really all the dishes including the classic like Beijing Duck are great. A place I always happily come back to!

Small portions, expensive, not tasty

I knew about this restaurant after eating in Beijing last year, and then I found out that they also have a branch in Amsterdam. It is so delicious. Every dish has its own characteristics and is authentic Chinese food.

“The only thing that remains constantly unchanged is the preservation of time-honored cooking methods and traditional craftsmanship. We inherit ancient culinary techniques, and savor seasonal delicacies due to reverence for the laws of nature.“ Doesn’t matter where I travel to, at some point I HAVE to have some Asian food. As much as I love food from every culture I crave for something that is familiar and comforting. ❤️ This place definitely hit the spot! Although hard to compare to the copious amounts of Asian restaurants we are spoiled with here in Vancouver, it was pretty dang good!

Overall great food but some dishes are quite overpriced. A side fried rice at 22€ is a bit much. They could also do make an effort to make the atmosphere a bit more welcoming.

We went there a couple of times and overall food are good and the atmosphere is nice. Overall staffs were friendly and helpful. However we had a negative experience with one staff, both over phone reservation and in person. She seems to have difficulty understanding our questions and concerns, give responses that felt dismissive and not customer friendly. We felt a bit pity that happens in a Michelin guide restaurant.

We had a very fine dinner (as usual) with a great ambiance. Definitely coming back!

Excellent high quality Chinese restaurant

I lived in Shanghai 13 years of my life and in Asia 20 the restaurant is excellent!

Always my first choice for Chinese cuisine in the Amsterdam area. Really authentic and cooked with heart. The ambience is nice as well. They offer a seasonal menu that changes every few months. The menu includes dim sum, spicy dishes, noodles, and dumplings. There are also some vegetarian and vegan options. 🌱 The wine list is also well-curated and full of great selections. The service is excellent — the man in the black shirt has strong knowledge of wine 🍷, and the man with blonde hair offers warm, welcoming service.

Service is mediocre. Staff is not alert.

Food is good, service is excellent, and atmosphere is not bad. But they just don’t deserve the price tags. In addition, the relentless price rise of its menu made us question whether we would return again (probably not).

Food was quite bland and paying over a hundred you would expect a lot better.

Debby is very kind and attentive. She makes the different, she deserves 5 stars. The man with the black suit is very arrogant and has a very unpleasant attitude. If it was our first time in Amber Garden, we will never come again.

As authentic as Peking duck in Beijing

Somewhat disappointing. We asked the patron to provide us with some starters before the Peking duck arrived. We were given some nice options, but were surprised by a starter with Peking duck skin and caviar. Some consultation before bringing the most expensive supplement on the menu would have been nice. The ordered Chablis from 2021, €90 a bottle, turned out to be a 2023. When confronted about this, we were told that the 2023 costs almost the same. As compensation, we received a glass of red wine. Neatly arranged, but it was all just not quite right. The Peking duck, which everyone raves about, was on the dry side. At the end of the dinner I wondered whether this was really worth the €330 we spend. I suspect not.

Goed Chinees restaurant met uitgebreide menukaart. Het is een heel boekwerk met foto’s en teksten, waarop veel mogelijkheden zijn te vinden. Veel lekkere voorgerechten, waaronder Dim Sum en ook smakelijke ossenhaas met tausie saus en Pekingeend. Nasi met gamba’s is ook goed. Beperkt aantal wijnen per glas. Eten is uitstekend, maar niet zo gezellig qua inrichting.
