BackWerk in Centrum

I stopped by here for lunch for a sandwich and a cup of tea/coffee. It was quite surprising that you can have lunch for VERY reasonable prices. Sandwiches cost around 5 to 6 euros, and tea/coffee and a sweet treat for under 19 euros for two people. Other lunchrooms typically charge 11 to 13 euros for sandwiches. In short, a pleasant surprise with a delicious sandwich. The mess could be cleaned up a bit, though; there were lots of crumbs and such on the floor.

Bad service, bad and stingy food. Also, incredibly expensive! The owner isn't friendly; he prefers to yell and curse unnecessarily. I also filed a complaint with the head office, and they said they hear this far too often! This is really unacceptable, and this will definitely have consequences!

The food is good, but the building itself is very noisy. Another drawback is that you have to pay for the restroom!

The most blatantly racist experience we've had in the Backwerk in Zoetermeer. We purchased Coffee and paid in full with cash – the staff member at the counter, she carefully counted all the coins before handing over our order. But as we left, things took a shocking turn. One of the employees, alongside the manager, suddenly stopped us in the middle of the high street and accused us of stealing coffee. This was humiliating and completely uncalled for. I explained that we had paid and asked them to check with the staff member who served us – or simply review the CCTV. Instead of investigating properly, the manager became aggressive and started shouting. We were treated like criminals for absolutely no reason. What made it even worse was the deeply inappropriate, racially charged tone of the interaction. The staff member began yelling what sounded like “YaAllah, Yallah,” which was both unsettling and offensive. Not once did anyone offer an apology, even after realizing their mistake. This wasn’t just poor service – it was profiling and outright racism. I will never return to any BackWerk in the Netherlands and will strongly advise others to avoid it as well. What we wanted was a simple acknowledgment and apology for an unjust accusation. Instead, we were shouted at, humiliated, and disrespected. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour. Shame on this location.

Not recommended. The staff laughs at you and can't even crack a smile. They look grumpy. In the kitchen, they look like they're about to burst into tears. Otherwise, the food is delicious.

The staff seems completely uninterested in customers or providing good service—most are glued to their phones instead of paying attention. The tables are filthy, the floors are dirty, and general hygiene is completely neglected. On top of that, the music is so loud you can't have a normal conversation. A very disappointing experience.

The sandwiches are okay. The seating area, however, is disgusting. I don't think they ever vacuum, and certainly don't mop it. Tables, chairs, the floor—everything is filthy and sticky. There are always crumbs scattered throughout the place. I often pop in for a quick sandwich and then I reluctantly sit inside. I sometimes check to see if it's actually clean, but unfortunately, it's always a dirty, unkempt mess. I find it truly bizarre that someone can run their business this way. They probably make enough money, and this "extra" service is too much trouble for them.

Ugh, Mexican chicken sandwich at 4:00 PM, sick at 8:00 PM. On closer inspection, the dirty table and food scraps on the floor at the tables weren't the only things that were amiss. It's a shame because the place itself is nice, but unfortunately, there's no passion for quality. The cappuccino and iced coffee are delicious.

Industrial-style interior with a wide selection of sandwiches and treats. Good coffee. It says you can reheat a sandwich, but unfortunately, they microwave it, so it gets soggy. The place is very noisy, not clean, and you have to pay an extra euro for the restroom.

As a (visibly) disabled person, staff will push the door closed right in front of the toilet. You have to buy a coin to activate the mechanism. This mechanism is disabled outside of weekends. Staff wear shorts and flip-flops. This is not only unhygienic, but certainly not acceptable in a lunchroom.

Mexican chicken sandwich was really tasty

The shop looks nice. It wasn't busy, and we were helped quickly. There was plenty of room to sit. My daughter tried to grab a sausage roll from the warming tray with the tongs. It's a shame the tongs had already been sitting there for a while and were therefore very hot! The tongs hadn't been put back in their holders. The staff wear gloves, but I think a hygiene lesson wouldn't hurt. The employee was emptying trays into the trash (wearing gloves). And with those same gloves, she took a customer's sandwich to warm up, operated the cash register, and then returned to the trash...

The sandwiches look delicious, but... check your sandwich first! Because in my sandwich there was 1 long hair!!! Yuck! What losers they say they work there! And then an arrogant woman behind the counter who firmly said "NO" when we asked to heat another sandwich! No friendliness to be seen! You will NEVER see me there again!!!

Flies on the sandwiches with salmon and chicken, staff that can't even say hello or good afternoon. Totally uninterested. Dirty toilets. The sandwiches are okay in terms of taste and variety, but with this heat everything open and exposed with flies on it really can't be done. Tables and floor also dirty. Music also still at volume 30....

Super good service, my son spilled a drink and he immediately arrived with cleaning wipes, everything cleaned including his coat that was underneath, and finally a new smoothie, really great there!

Normally I can certainly enjoy my sandwich here, But volume is at 30! Which means you can't have a normal conversation. The cashier is standing with earphones in and her phone in her hands. No interest towards the customer. Group of 4 employees together, all with telephones and not at work, earphones in their ears on the telephone. I think it has no service and no atmosphere at all for a sandwich shop

Wonderful to get your morning coffee here or to enjoy it on site. It's just such a shame that the music is so loud very early (at 9am). Case of going deaf, so hard. This is really disturbing, especially in the morning. I hope you will actually do something with this.

Delicious for breakfast or lunch

A few months ago they were much better, now there is a different type of topping on the sandwiches, which is a shame. I sometimes have to wait an hour for someone to come while I indicated to come in 20 minutes. The sandwich is then delivered cold without a bag. Hire better delivery people and the old toppings back!

The food was tasty, with a nice variety of sandwiches and sweets. The price was very reasonable and the employees were really attentive. Additionally, the latino songs create a really nice vibe in the cafe! I will surely come back :)

The employee listens to you with headphones on, and when he doesn't understand, he asks you to speak louder. And in a very rude and disrespectful manner... I definitely don't recommend it. Maybe this way, they will give the necessary warning to disrespectful employees.

Bread is dry and the tuna is dried out. We also miss 1x a salmon bagel and 1x hot sanwich tuna. And we also had to wait 1.5 hours. The staff is not friendly on the phone and just hangs up, what an incredibly bad store. I will never order from here again.

Cappuccino and apple turnover are fine, but what an incredible noise! Not possible for someone with a disability in terms of sound stimuli or if you want to talk to someone. I won't be back.

Until today I regularly went to Backwerk. Normally always a good meal. Unfortunately, my hot dog contained a large piece of plastic, probably from the packaging of the hot dog sausage. Before consumption, I also had the sandwich warmed up in their ovens, so I ate a quarter of a hot dog sandwich with unsolicited extra plastic... after standing around I spoke to the staff about it and only received a lame excuse: yes, that's because the interns. No, that is not because of the inexperienced young intern, but because of the supervisor who apparently cannot supervise or instruct anyone. Shame about the lame excuse, that's the only thing I got apart from a can of apple juice that allowed me to sink the leftover plastic I consumed further into my body.

Eating a quick sandwich is possible here. Sandwiches are not cooled, which is a drawback and not responsible. Cleaning leaves much to be desired. Dirty tables and floors. There are enough staff... Not very hygienic. Won't come back here again.

Hygiene is not good. Your plate is a sheet of paper on a tray that sits in the doorway, making anything unsuitable as a "plate". Tables, etc., can only be cleaned with 1 and the same cloth without cleaning spray or anything else. You're just spreading the dirt. Floor was dirty all 3 times. The sandwiches are open and exposed, which attracts flies, and people regularly pick up the sandwiches and put them back WITHOUT using tongs. The Salmon and egg sandwiches are not refrigerated and are just sitting there waiting.

What a nice location for a quick meal or drink. Wonderful Latin music which makes the day cheerful and the man behind the counter with his energetic appearance was also nice. Recommended. Keep up the work.

A nice store with bad service. You have to pay a deposit of 15 euro cents for a bottle of cassis. When I handed it in I was told that they will not give 15 eurocents back. But you can hand the bottle over to them. All wins for BackWerk. Wouldn't buy a bottle of drink here

Walked in here, wanted a sandwich, but saw the flies around it and in it yuck, Immediately away.

Normally always friendly staff, especially the manager. It is logical to be in a hurry to pay, but they are not unkind. I did have a strange experience this afternoon with a girl (not the lady) who had to squeeze the oranges. The orange crate on wheels was in the middle of the path, so my wife rolled it to the staff area so she could pass it with the stroller. I then rolled the crate 5 cm tighter against the side so that the staff could easily pass. I was immediately asked by the girl walking by if I wanted to stay away. My explanation and repetition did not get through, she only passively aggressively kept repeating that she asked nicely. Well no, asking me to stay away is not nice, I didn't do anything crazy and just cleared the way for everyone. That is a normal action and should be possible without being corrected. I used to come there every now and then, but I won't be back anymore.

Bought a tuna baguette. Costs €5.20. Viewed contents at the table that were 1/3 filled with a little filling!. Rip-offs! Never eat here again.

Very nice place to have something to eat. We have walked past it many times and there are always people there, so we decided to have lunch there as well. I had a pumpkin soup with a smoothie. The soup had a delicious oriental flavor due to the coconut and pepper. The smoothie also tasted good and fresh. My friend had a filled baguette, a smoothie and another chicken thigh sandwich. The sandwich was heated during checkout, which is of course very tasty. Both the sandwiches and the smoothie went down well. You can sit very comfortably at either a low or high table. It is beautifully light and the staff is very friendly. In addition, the prices are also friendly for these times.

Ja ook ik vind het een geweldige zaak, ik kom er graag. Ook de overige winkels bv op denhaag centraal en leiden zijn fijne corners voor een lekker bakkie of een heerlijk stokbroodje. Een ander broodje of iets lekkers bij de koffie kan natuurlijk ook.

Lekkere broodjes voor niet teveel geld. Kwaliteit is lekker. Doet me qua Broodjes aan la place denken. Leuk om ff een pitstop te houden tijdens het winkelen. Voor echt een uitgebreide rustige lunch zou ik er niet gaan zitten.

Ligt in het Centrum en niet ver van het RandstadRail Station (misschien 200 mtr daar vandaan). Het heet wèl Backwerk, maar ze hebben er ook belegde broodjes en nú ook erwtensoep. De wc bestaat alleen uit een cel voor dames en een cel voor heren met een voorkamer die ruim genoeg is voor rolstoelen. Je kunt er zó omrollen!
