The place is very beautiful, I'm from Peru and I loved it, highly recommended for Latinos.

Cashier ignored us while we were waiting in front of the register for more than 5 minutes. Incredibly rude and unprofessional. We left without getting served.

I v been ignored by the seller. Not a hi no coffee no eye contact for 5 minutes. I left. I never seen that anywhere.

We stayed a few days at the hotel on the same side of the street and were pleasantly surprised to discover this bakery, which allows you to put together complete breakfasts, almost half the price and much better than those at the hotel. We ate there every morning and bought our lunch to go.

Bakhuys was the first coffee I drank after moving to Amsterdam, which automatically gives it emotional priority. My temporary apartment was 5 minutes away. My phone had no reception, something was very wrong with it — but my coffee spidey sense still guided me here. We’ve been coming ever since, even after moving to another neighborhood. Prime location, right in front of the tram. Perfect for a quick coffee recharge or emergency bakery run. Inside is surprisingly huge, like a school canteen but with better life choices. You clean up after yourself and put everything on a tray, which feels efficient and slightly humbling. Great service. Great coffee. Great bakery. No notes.

It's a fantastic bakery with amazing products... unfortunately, the ladies and gentlemen behind the counter are anything but helpful. Arrogantly self-absorbed. I was given a bottle of still sparkling water. It couldn't be right. The bread is put in dirty bags, and if you ask for a napkin, you're looked at like you're crazy. I love coming here, but I often walk away irritated... some management would be nice.

Definitely go get it! I wouldn't recommend stopping in for a nice coffee! Lots of tourists! No comfortable chairs or tables! More like a hall with picnic tables and hard chairs!

I have been going to Bakhuys over the last 10 years and can’t miss it on a visit to Amsterdam! A lively bakery with great variety and lots of seating. Delicious pastries! Tip: there are two queues separated by a door, so sometimes one is a lot shorter.

Last time there were a few kids screaming so loud.. Good pastries, nice service :)

I don't give reviews often, especially not one star. But this company, in terms of atmosphere, product, and service, couldn't be more excellent.

It's a great place where I enjoy breakfast often, but it must be said that a healthy sandwich with honey mustard is a real fail. Just add mayo; with honey mustard, it's much less tasty, an incredibly unnecessary addition to a classic.

The food was delicious, but the waitresses were really rude. It's a shame because the place is nice and the food is delicious, but I was left distraught by the poor treatment from the baristas/cashiers.

I had an amazing Latte Macchiato and a delicious Croissant here. Both were absolutely wonderful, reminded me of my Italy vacation days. I'm definitely coming back here again. Added later: I visited again for breakfast on Saturday 27th Sept. Had a cappuccino, croissant and a nice cheese-tomato-pesto sandwich, and I loved all 3. This place is one of my favourites in Amsterdam now.

Extremely incompetent. We didn’t get the coffee we paid for: they mixed orders and our order was simply not there. We left without getting anything (even tho we paid for it). The bakery stuff we had was at best mediocre.

Really lovely place for a coffee and snack on a sunny day. The usual assortment of hot drinks, cold drinks and savoury and sweet bits, but in a really cosy environment.

Would highly recommend! Great coffee with vegan milk options. Lots of pastries, breads, sandwich options. My favourite was raisin buns and the cinnamon buns. My partner really liked the almond croissants and the ham/cheese sandwhich. They have lots of seating inside and several tables outside as well. Staff was really nice. Appears to be well frequented by locals. Note - They have two entrances. One is for those looking to buy several bakery items and another for those looking for one/two with coffee. Really helped things move quickly.

The staff wasn't very friendly; we're foreigners with language difficulties, and they weren't very patient. The buns were generally good, especially the lemon one.

I do not care about the food when your behaviour is abhorrent. 1 woman and 2 guys working at the counter were not happy with selling me any pastries. Turned their back and give my place to someone who arrived after me. Please do not go to this place. You are not as cool as you may think yourself when you turned down people for no reason.

These olive breads were the best!! This is one of the nicest bakeries in Amsterdam to sit and work and feel comfortable :)

An open-plan bakery-style space, great for coffee and a snack. Inside, there are long tables and a few sofas, with people reading or using their laptops for hours. I highly recommend leaving your coffee behind so you're warm inside until it stops.

A special place. Very good food and delicious coffee. The most striking thing is the good atmosphere. Relaxed, cozy... A very good place.

A great place for breakfast if you happen to be in the area. There's a huge variety of confections, most of which are great.. there's very decent coffee as well, so that is icing on the cake (pun intended!). You order the food and then take it to your table .. you have to go and pick up your coffee too which works fine.. the seating area is spacious and has the nouveau 'industrial vibe', which is cosy and welcoming. The freshly pressed orange juice is great as well... Recommended!

Rustic breakfast spot with a wide selection of sweet and savory items. We had croissants and bread with cheese and pesto. Both were delicious 😋 . It's always busy, and it can take a while to get your breakfast. (Luckily, you have time on vacation 😀) There's seating inside and outside. The bakery is in the back of the shop, and you can watch the baking.

I hadn't been here in a very long time. I always came here for the white chocolate roll and the pain de campagne. They didn't have those (anymore). I ended up with a ham and cheese croissant and a companio loaf. More expensive than bakeries in this higher segment, like Bakkerij van As, Gebroeders Niemijer, or Kometenbrood, and nowhere near the quality they offer. The ham and cheese croissant cost 3.20, which is to be expected. But it was rubbery, not crispy, and didn't have much of a ham and cheese flavor. I can tell you that the Albert Heijn ones are not only cheaper but also tastier. The crust wasn't crispy, and the inside was anything but flavorful. I'm okay with something being bad, as long as the price is right for what you get. In other words, I shouldn't feel cheated, and I certainly do in this case. I don't know if Jongejans is still involved, but if your basic products aren't up to par for that price, something's wrong.

Third or fourth time giving this place a try for a simple, good and QUICK pastry or two to go. Disappointed each time... pastries are just not great and most recently the service was sooooo slow. Maybe a place only for tourists

Bakhuys has the fame of being the best croissant in town. While it’s really good indeed, not sure if it’s necessarily the best, in a city full of very good bakeries! Anyway, it’s good, and it has other things like focaccias and sweets. Service could be better, as there’s no offer to reheat things, options for drinking are very limited, etc. Also keep in mind they really close at 5pm, so there’s no way to stay for a happy hour.

Had a really nice breakfast at this wonderful bakery. Everything is fresh and baked on-site. The space is large, the service is friendly and efficient, and the pastries are excellent. The cinnamon bun was a bit dry and lacked a strong cinnamon flavor, but the pain au chocolat and pain aux raisins were absolutely delicious. The cappuccino and the espresso were also very good. I’d definitely recommend this place!

A nice bakery to have breakfast in the morning, with a choice and good quality products.

No “hello, welcome how can I help?”, no price tags (for clearly overpriced bakeries) and surely no smile, no professional service and finally no “thank you, have a good day” The staff that poorly served me today was clearly rude and unprofessional… fainting to not understand me when I was asking for prices which were not on display. The after purchase experience was not even a slice better: tasteless, big and fatty, and clearly not worth the price of 2,95€ per item… Being a well informed consumer, the quality of the bakeries is even doubtful if it’s entirely artisanal… In short: don’t bother… there are way better and friendlier places to go in AMS OOST!

I loved this bakery, I was a fan of their croissants and pain au chocolat. Unfortunately, the last two times I went there, I found that the quality had declined, even making me wonder if the pain au chocolat they served me were fresh...

Absolutely delicious! Abundant selection of pastries, sandwiches and delicious coffee. We were so happy to stumble upon this place during our visit. Loved the spelt roll/smoked salmon sandwich.

Normally love this place but came around 9:30am and ordered a cheese twist and it was so stale it tasted like it could be a week old. Normally they are delicious so it was very disappointing.

Varied pastries, a bit expensive but it's convenient, close to campus for when you're in need of a quick bite, plenty of tables if you need to sit down.

I had them for breakfast. Their bakeries are excellent. They have lots of vegetarian and cheese stuff, so it's good for halal too. They have tea, hot coffee, and iced coffee. The coffee wasn't great. I got a flat white, and the beans tasted old and bitter. They have a big indoor seating area. They always have a queue, but they are fast. The staff are friendly. I would recommend basil tomato toast, butter sandwich, and cheese sandwich.

Nice place from the outside and always busy. I've wanted to try it for a while but was totally disappointed. The croissant looks and tastes like it came from a gas station. When I went to pick up my Americano on the other side (where there was nobody going on), the employee was cleaning a fridge, noticed me waiting, but didn't greet me or see my order. Then another employee came over and asked what I wanted. I said that I had already ordered my Americano on the other side. She said, "Oh yes, there's a ticket." After she had almost finished preparing it, the first employee suddenly reacted and wanted to take my order, with an unfriendly "What would you like?" What a pity.

We had breakfast here today. The drinking and eating areas are in separate areas. The line was just as long as outside, but it was definitely worth the wait. The food is very tasty. Highly recommended.

A sandwich was supposed to be prepared and brought to the table—of course, it was forgotten and only prepared after request. A fun place to sit, but the concept is very strange, with a ridiculously long wait. The menu hasn't been accurate for a long time.

We were recommended this place for breakfast on a weekend visit to Amsterdam and we loved it. Everything was delicious (they have their own workshop where you can visually see how they make it because they have transparent glass). Good quality at reasonable prices! I would repeat.

Cute cozy area to sit around and talk with others or to get some light work done (I did some organizing of notes and reading a book) I tried their homemade hibiscus ice tea. Was nice, nothing unique though but overall a cozy area so I'd come again and probably get another drink like a tea or smt

Not for tourists. Got there an hour before closing, lots of people still eating, big “open”sign outside. looked nice but was told they are closed. Walked by 15 mins later sign outside still said open.

My 8 year old daughter wanted to let us know that what is sold as a cheese stick is not a cheese stick. When I bought it I thought, that is the most beautiful cheese stick ever. But when she put her teeth in it, the pleasure disappeared a little from her face. "This is not tasty porridge" after which I also took a bite and had to conclude that it was not a real cheese stick but probably someone's inspiration that they could also make cheese sticks with the dough used. But that it was never told that this dough with (too little) cheese does not yet make a cheese stick. I even had visions of my terrible time at recorder lessons when I tried the cheese stick. So here is a review from us about the cheese stick. And the boy with glasses behind the counter who is in love with the girl with glasses and black hair who was in the kitchen at the time. Ask each other out to do something fun or put the sandwich maker closer to the boy so that he does not have to walk past her when a sandwich is ordered. ❤️

Looking for a cheap, centered, spacious and interesting place to score a coffee or something to eat than this is definitely a cool option. There are probably a lot of fun things to share about what this used to be, but I haven't a clue. Sitting there one does definitely wonder though. What I most like about this place is it's social function, helping people with a little or a lot of bagage to get some proper work experience. Next to that, when I asked him, the extremely and helpfull Bastiaan (I think his name was) gave me a ton of (cheapy) whipped cream to go with my Americano.

La focaccia es increíble. Tomé uno con zanahoria, queso de cabra, eneldo fresco y cebolla caramelizada. Era tan bueno que volví al día siguiente por otra pieza.

In the past I would happily come here for a cup of coffee and enjoy the delicious treats. Unfortunately, this time it was different. I was given a cappuccino that was brewed much too hot and tasted like water. After asking for some milk foam to be added, this unfortunately did not improve. I then politely decided to ask for a new cup. Result: a cappuccino filled with only milk foam (on purpose). I have rarely been treated so inhospitably. For me, this joke is the reason I will not return here again.

One of many wonderful coffee and bakery cafes located in the inner city of Amsterdam towards the university areas. The cafe offers many delicious delights and should be a must to stop by on your next visit to Amsterdam. Located on a central street and close to both the Amstel Hotel, Hyatt Regency and Citizen M hotel its location is popular with locals. Enjoy

In my opinion the best bakery in Amsterdam. Always delicious!!!

The place is nice and cozy. You have to order directly at the counter and bring your food to the table; there is no table service. We ordered two sandwiches and a cinnamon roll. Everything was very tasty and fresh. However, we found the batch coffee to be very poor, too strong and acidic, and a bit burnt. The service is good and pleasant. Coffee aside, I would definitely return to this place to eat again.

May 2025 Remains an icon. As long as I come here it hasn't changed. Nicely in the sun on their terrace. Right entrance for coffee and something small to go with. Left entrance bakerie goodies, a huge assortment what often changes. All made fresh in house. Smart you can also order coffee on the bakery side. Good quality, Bocca coffee and also seating inside.

The products are not best but they are fresh. Focaccias and pizzas were delicious but we didn’t like the cookies and cinnamon bun. The tables are very dirty I think no one cleans or wipes them. We struggled to sit at a table and eventually we cleaned our own table.

Great cheesy bread sticks! If you are a cheese freak, you will love them! They have decent coffee and wonderful breads. Staff is quick cuz the line can stretch out the door.

The smell that you feel there all day is wonderful. The attention is a little cold but fast.

Just do yourself a favour and come by this place. According to the staff the place is a bit less crowded before 12 a clock (lunch time), but even during the busy hours theres enough staff to get people sorted nice and quickly. Plenty of room as well. Just all round fantastic place.
