Lovely traditional Italian pizzeria. We ate here with a group of 20 swimmers after the Dutch Championships, and the whole place was blocked off for us. The waitresses were very friendly and the food was truly delicious! 🍕 They even accommodated our large group for the appetizer and prepared delicious charcuterie platters for us! Highly recommended!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Best pizza in Maastricht, maybe even in Italy🇮🇹🍕

Ordered two pizzas for €34, and both ended up in the trash. The calzone came without any sauce, making it completely dry and tasteless (it’s just dry dough with some ham, onions and tomato). To be fair the menu didn’t say the pizza had sauce on it. So it’s my fault I didn’t read it thoroughly enough. The salami pizza had raw salami thrown on top, something I cannot eat as a pregnant woman. Nowhere on the menu did it say that the salami would be added raw. When I called to address the issue, the response was unhelpful and unfriendly. I was basically told that this is just how it’s done in Italy. There was no interest in customer satisfaction whatsoever; no apology, no compensation. I find this extremely unprofessional. Whether this is the Italian way or not is beside the point. Such details should always be mentioned on the menu. It’s not only unprofessional but also unsafe. As a restaurant owner, you have a responsibility to consider food safety. In the Netherlands, it is not the standard to put raw salami on a pizza. Of course, you can choose to do things differently, but you should inform your customers correctly about raw meat. I shouldn’t have to throw away a paid pizza simply because I wasn’t warned. What else might they do without mentioning it? Add nuts without saying so?

We had the best pizza ever here. Truly delicious! What a selection of pizzas, including many vegetarian options. It's small but very cozy. Make a reservation in advance to guarantee a seat. Friendly service, and you can get inspiration for home while you wait by browsing through the many pizza cookbooks. Highly recommended!

Small place with only about 15ish seats but if it's full, take the pizza to-go! There was a long line but it moved fast and we only waited about 10 minutes for our pizza. The staff was very warm and friendly, all from Italy. The perfect hole-in-a-wall with exceptional pizza making for an ideal quick dinner.

Good pizzas, awesome service, small area, reservation is recommended, because is super small and chairs/tables are a bit uncomfortable, but what do you need to eat a pizza. Great place for a quick, tasty bite.

A very small and lovely restaurant with very friendly staff. It's authentic Italian, but they have a separate menu with vegan pizzas. The one I had was delicious! It's a shame Maastricht isn't around the corner, otherwise I would have tried all the pizzas. Highly recommended! It's located right on the street, which is fine on a quiet day, but not very atmospheric. Inside, it's nicely decorated; you can see the oven where the pizzas are baked.

I had a really delicious pizza! The crust could have been a bit crispier, and some herbs/olive oil would have made it a bit more flavorful. Otherwise, it was perfect.

This pizzeria really surprised me. The flavor, preparation, and final product were outstanding, and the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. We tried the Salsiccia pizza and another one with different cheeses and fresh tomatoes (I’ll have to check the exact names), both baked in what looks like a handmade wood-fired oven. As someone familiar with Italian cuisine, I can say the quality of the pizzas themselves is very high. When we picked them up, they were piping hot, with an amazing aroma. The only small suggestion would be about the tomato topping: I expected them to be oven-baked rather than added fresh. Still, the overall flavor was incredible, so it’s more of a personal preference than a complaint. Now that I’ve moved to Maastricht for my studies, I’ll definitely be coming back — this place is a gem.

I decided to visit Bancale 61 because of the many reviews praising their vegan options, but I left disappointed. While it’s great that they offer several vegan pizzas, the ingredient combinations just didn’t work for me. I even tried customizing one by removing a couple of toppings, but the flavors still tasted off and a bit mismatched. Unfortunately, the experience wasn’t saved by the atmosphere either. The place didn’t feel very clean, and the service was mediocre at best. I really wanted to like this spot, but it just didn’t live up to the hype.

The pizza tastes excellent. The ambiance is rustic but authentic. Only the chairs are a bit uncomfortable. We would go again.

Can't rate it because ten minutes before closing time they said the oven was off. Too bad, because they weren't officially closed yet. Response to the owner: What does the customer have to do with the oven? If you can't guarantee the opening hours, you should adjust them. And besides, the staff was quite curt.

I went to this pizzeria for an Italian pizza. I must say the staff was very friendly and the service was quick. The pizza was very good with good ingredients. The crust was thick, like a Neapolitan pizza, and it was well-cooked. I didn't like a couple of things that I think would benefit from more attention if they wanted to improve the quality: Cleanliness: not exactly the best, tables were unkempt and cleaned in a cursory manner. Worst of all were the tables made of pallets, where dirt accumulates between the wooden boards and is difficult to clean and remains. (It would be better if they installed a nice glass top; it would make things cleaner and the feeling of eating on the pallet wouldn't change.) I should also add that the table is slightly too low for tall people, making it uncomfortable to sit while eating among the pallets. Perhaps it's better at the other tables in the restaurant. Again, about cleanliness, why serve pizza on wooden cutting boards? (I'm a fan of wood in the kitchen, but I also know how difficult it is to clean it with natural methods that aren't practical in places open to the public.) They don't serve alcoholic beers due to a lack of a license... I hope the criticism is taken in its entirety, because the pizza and the service were excellent.

They focus on the pizza, not on the place. Very good pizza, nice crust and very tasty. They have many crazy combinations. Service was okay, nothing special. The place is very basic, no decorations and you even walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. But don't get me wrong, I totally recommend it and I will hopefully come again to try another pizza. And they have many vegetarian and vegan options.

They are very kind, but they do not know what is pizza. The dough was far from what it is supposed to be, weird spices in the tomato sauce, low quality mozzarella, and black pepper on margherita. Please do not call yourself Neapolitan pizzeria. Probably you may like it if you are not looking for a Neapolitan pizza.

Pizzas were delicious, although a bit on the pricey side. The restaurant is more of a takeaway, with only a few rickety tables and pallets to eat at and loud music. So this is a great restaurant for takeaway, but you don't have to go here for a nice evening of dining out.

Had super tasty pizzas and eldest daughter ate a focaccia. Easy to pay, especially the drinks (non-alcoholic). The chairs were less comfortable (hence 4 stars here), but fortunately the pizzas were on the table so quickly that we finished eating within an hour. Nice atmosphere too, because Italian is spoken and the Italian radio was also on :)

Na de positieve recensies waren we erg benieuwd naar deze pizzeria, maar helaas viel onze ervaring tegen. De inrichting is simpel: je zit op opgestapelde pallets met dunne kussentjes, en de sfeer is behoorlijk rumoerig. De service schiet tekort; na het eerste drankje werd er niet meer gevraagd of we nog iets wilden bestellen of of alles naar wens was. Over drank gesproken: naast fris is er alleen alcoholvrij bier verkrijgbaar, en de drankjes werden lauw en in vettige glazen geserveerd. De hygiëne was ronduit ondermaats. Het toilet was niet schoon en alleen bereikbaar via de keuken, wat geen fijne indruk achterliet. Ook de servetten waren vies en de pizza’s werden geserveerd op houten planken, die simpelweg met een borstel bij de wasbak werden geboend. Gelukkig waren de pizza’s zelf uitstekend: rijk van smaak en authentiek Italiaans. Ons advies? Bestel hier je pizza, neem hem mee en geniet er ergens anders van.

The best pizza I ever ate: in Bancale 61.

Ate real pizza for the first time in my life. (the junk from other restaurants shouldn't really be called pizza after this experience in my opinion). The atmosphere of the restaurant is very hipster, I would call it, nice and quiet. Waitress only forgot our drinks hence 4 stars for service.

I ordered over the phone at 25 past and was given a pick up time at 45, but ended up getting my Pizza only another 20min later. There was not even an apology for that. Uncoordinated team that is talking everything through the three of them. The decor is super basic and kind of run down too, definitely needs a refresh. Coming to the most important part, the food. Well thanks to a good dough and the wood fire oven it was ok, but far from really good as the artichoke had a very strong pickled taste and the ham was put on cold which made the whole pizza taste colder. And with 17€ the Pizza was also not cheap enough to accept that lower quality. Actually I only went there because may favourite places in town had closed today. Maybe next time on a Tuesday I choose Ramen over Pizza.

Cannot recommend. They said the pizzas would be done in 10 minutes, but it took 35 minutes. I had a pizza salmon and the amount of salmon on my pizza was maybe 2 cm of fish? Absolutely nothing and I feel scammed. I expect that from a place like dominos pizza, but not from an expensive pizza like this.

After living in Naples for a year and visiting the many renowned pizzerias there, it is always interesting to discover which pizzeria in Maastricht makes the best Neapolitan pizzas. After my visit to Il Bancale I can say without a doubt that this pizzeria makes the tastiest pizzas in Maastricht! Although the pizzas seem a bit on the smaller side at first glance, they are richly topped and very filling. The flavors of the ingredients are top-notch. Moreover, Il Bancale offers a varied menu with well-designed pizzas, so there is something for everyone. The service can seem a bit slow, but it was quiet during my visit, so I personally wasn't bothered by this. However, it is something to take into account when it is busy. The pizzas are on the pricey side, but the taste and quality definitely make it worth visiting Il Bancale at least once. Definitely recommended.

As an Italian I rate this pizza as extremely mediocre. The dough is vaguely similar to a real Neapolitan pizza, discreet ingredients, but the thing that left me most disappointed was the completely burnt pizza base. The pizza chef should pay more attention to cooking pizzas and clean the oven more often. The burnt and black part of the pizza is highly carcinogenic!

Hi, I come to give you a constructive review and hope you take it that way First, your pizzas are really nice, we loved it, dont have a bad think to point out. The wait was quite long and is visible that you are understaffed, the pizzaiolo was very busy and he should get an helping hand. At the end the wait was acceptable fir the pizzas served as they were really nice. To the things that actually are a deep negative and that explains the 3 star rating and the reasons we would not comeback. Simple doesn’t need to be dirty, those are different things. The decor is very simple which is OK but you need to give a deep clean to the restaurant. Old cloths on top of the oven, not sure what they were doing there but was the first thing that caught my eye, doesnt look good The toilet is really bad and the room where it is located is even worst, apologies but it is just a mess, not hard to fix it Stuff pilled next to the coffee machine, when you have space if you organize the area And please, organize your menu, could not make head to tails on the 5 pages that you handed over to us, ended up going to check your menu online - Make it simple, lots going on Worst one, the waiter was using gloves, went to collect the toilet garbage and after went onto topping up pizzas and cutting them - with the same ones!! I would ask you also to look onto these red things you have hanging from the ceiling, not sure what they are, some festive thing, if you not going to keep them clean from dust, simple remove them Simple but critical things that would make all the difference, at least for me… I know it is quite harsh things but are the truth from my view and not hard to fix Keep up doing great pizzas but also look at the other things that are important on a restaurant

De pizza met burrata was echt heeeerlijk, erg simpel maar super lekker. Echter, we hebben een uur op onze pizza moeten wachten (het was vrijdagavond, we hadden reservatie om 18:30) terwijl er niet zoveel plaatsen zijn in het restaurant. Dit komt omdat er veel mensen pizza afhalen. Ik zou wel nog opnieuw komen omdat de pizza zo lekker was, maar enkel afhalen of als ik veel tijd heb.

Pizza eccezionale e personale gentile e accogliente. Il posto è piccolino ma caratteristico, con forno a legna e tanta scelta nel menu. La pizza mi è piaciuta tantissimo, croccante e ben cotta e il personale è stato simpatico e disponibile. Consiglio questo posto a tutti coloro che visitano Maastricht

Delicious handmade pizza that is freshly prepared and baked upon order (may take slightly long). Premium pizza dough with a nice chew and lightly charred crispy crust. Very good pizzas with plenty of toppings and quickly prepared. Atmosphere in the restaurant is nice, but relatively few seats. The employees are very friendly and helpful, but only speak English or Italian. If we are in the area again, we will definitely come back.

They only make pizza. Really just pizza. I asked if they also had a salad and the waitress said, somewhat rudely, that they only had salad on the pizza. So I picked a pizza. The waiting time was surprisingly long. Apparently there were some orders ready to be picked up. The pizzas we got were consistently first class. Really tasty.

Super nice, small place where you're greeted very warmly, pizzas are made with care and passion in a huge wood-oven. The variety is amazing and the toppings really standout in quality. Italian can be heard from the kitchen, and it truly pulls you into the dream of having pizza in Italy. Take away or eating in is both possible.

Da gibt es nicht viel zu sagen. Ich, der lieber Pizza Zuhause macht, weil die meisten Pizzaria qualitativ keine hochwertigen Zutaten verwenden, kann diesen Laden nur loben. Angefangen bei dem leckeren Teig, bis hin zu den genau richtig gesalzenen Sardellen als Topping, hat hier alles sehr lecker geschmeckt. Man muss hier zwar tiefer in die Tasche greifen, aber alle die Pizza lieben, werden dies mit Freude tun. Wir kommen wieder! Weiter so

Von außen gesehen einfach. Innen sind Paletten übereinander gestapelt als Tischfunktion. Aber....nettes Personal und Holzofen. Pizzen sind sehr lecker gewesen. Werden wieder kommen, wenn wir wieder mal in Maastricht sind. Empfehlung 👍

Sehr gute neapolitanische Pizza aus dem steinofen. Nicht allzu grosser Auswahl, spricht aber für die Qualität. Schön fänden wir es wenn es doch zusätzlich zur Pizza auch ein Salat zur Auswahl gäbe.

Heerlijke verse pizza. Zo goed dat wanneer we op een andere locatie pizza eten, we deze altijd vergelijken met Bancale. Want beter kan niet! Zelfs de pizza op vakantie in italië viel tegen. Er wordt duidelijk met veel passie en aandacht een pizza voor jou bereid. Heel veel opties, van klassiek tot bijzondere combinaties en altijd met verse kwalitatieve ingrediënten. Het restaurant is klein en leuk gedecoreerd en het personeel is erg vriendelijk, het enige minpuntje dat ik kan opmerken is dat het niet comfortabel is om op de vouwstoeltjes of bankjes te zitten. Buiten dit om is het een van onze favoriete restaurants waar we graag komen eten, ook de afhaal pizza is heerlijk.

Lovely small place with awesome pizza. I got the recommendation from an italian friend, and now we cannot eat any of the other pizzas in Maastricht anymore. On top of that, the staff is very friendly.

De pizza was behoorlijk goed, wellicht aan de prijzige kant voor wat je ervoor krijgt. Ik was niet gecharmeerd van de gefronste wenkbrauwen bij mijn begroeting “goedenavond”. Er wordt geen woord Nederlands gesproken en dat wordt je met onbegrepen blik duidelijk gemaakt. Leer op zijn minst 250 basiswoorden van de landstaal van waar je werkt en mogelijk ook woont. Doe die moeite. Als ik in Italië zou werken, zou ik er de taal leren. Wel goed dat ze veganistische pizza’s aanbieden.

Bijzondere pizzeria. Ontzettend veel keuze, misschien iets te veel. Er wordt gekookt met passie en dat proef je.

I am very happy to have found an Italian pizzeria that uses a wood oven. The products used are of excellent quality and it's all tasty and good. For my personal taste the pizzas should be slightly thinner and a little bit bigger but they are still excellent and I would recommend Bancale 61 to everyone. I also want to add that the service is superb.

Fantastische, authentisch neapolitanische Pizza aus dem Holzofen. Die Einrichtung ist spartanisch und es gibt keinen Alkohol - das super sympathische Team interessiert nur eines: den Gästen die beste Pizza Maastrichts zu servieren. Mission erfüllt!

The food is great! Napels style pizza baked in a stone oven, what more could you need? They have plenty of options and the combinations are fantastic. The only small issue is that there is only one person in the service so between serving the customers and taking the phone all the time, it can be a lot to handle for one person. But with some patience and understanding it is totally worth it.
