I've been there three times now, but unfortunately, the selection of natural wines by the glass remains poor. The service is okay, but they're more focused on each other than on guests. The food was also very mediocre and lacking flavor. It does have a nice atmosphere, though it's probably better in the summer with their terrace. I won't be returning.

We had a wonderful meal, delicious dishes. Great atmosphere and friendly staff with excellent advice. Even my 86-year-old parents-in-law thought it was a lovely place with delicious food and good wine. We'll definitely be back.

A really nice place, delicious, innovative food, and a great atmosphere with good music. However, like almost every wine bar in Amsterdam, it's quite pricey, and you really need to be a natural wine lover. Because they're not the best wines.

It is a cool place to have a drink and enjoy time with friends. We went with my two-year-old son and my mum. I requested the check and waited for a long time, but it didn’t come. I noticed that other people were paying at that moment. I reminded them again that I had requested the check, but I also said I could pay at the bar. But the waiter, in a harsh tone and coming right up to my face, said something like “You can pay wherever you want.” I don’t know what I did wrong, and I don’t understand why he acted so disrespectfully while I was holding my son. When I asked for the reason, he said he didn’t understand what I wanted — but unfortunately, that wasn’t true. If he is reading this, I genuinely wonder why he was bothered and why he didn’t seem to like us.

Delicious wine and cosy spot. One of guys working was lovely but the other one literally told me off for moving my glass when he had already stopped pouring previously lol. So unnecessarily awkward and rude

We were with a group of 15 people for dinner at Bar Centraal. We were seated at a small table and at the counter, overlooking the busy work in the very small kitchen. The separation from my friends was bearable, however, as we had already spent eventful days in Amsterdam before our evening here. As an avid amateur cook, I naturally enjoyed this view of the chefs. The extractor fan also did a great job, so our clothes barely smelled of food. As for the dishes served, there's a lot of creativity at play here. Melon pickle with sour bread crumble, mint, and feta (around €11 for 5 slices...) Or an eggplant in beurre blanc, also around €11. All the dishes I tried were delicious. That must be said first and foremost. However, in my opinion, the dishes lacked some balance in the dosage of, for example, mint in the cucumbers, mini popcorn on the eggplant, or salt in the beurre blanc. However, since the prices aren't at fine-dining levels, that's perfectly fine. Another problem is that we had to wait a very, very long time for our courses. So the feeling was more like "we're standing together, drinking a beer, and having little snacks on the side." Serving a group of 15 people at once is difficult for the two very nice people in the kitchen. There's also a good selection of dishes for vegetarians. However, their selection of vegan alternatives is very limited. Overall, a lovely evening and well worth coming if you want to enjoy something delicious with friends.

Bar Central is the kind of place that makes you want to linger. We went for Dinavolino, an Orange wine full of citrusy, sun-drenched notes. Perfect for the bright day we had outside. Food-wise, these “bites” could easily rival full restaurant plates. The beef tartare with milk bread and shrimp XO sauce sets the tone beautifully, the kind of welcome that makes you smile at the first bite. The chicken tonkatsu with green apple, cabbage and forelkuit was the ideal ending: crisp, tangy, and utterly satisfying. Service: young, lively, and spot-on when it comes to both wines and dishes. They know their stuff, but without ever making it feel stiff or formal. Reservations are definitely a good idea. Bonus tip: you can also stock up on some great natural wines to take home. Fair prices, excellent atmosphere, and a level of quality that makes Bar Central a must-stop in Amsterdam! Bar Central is the perfect place to spend a pleasant evening in Amsterdam, whether with friends or as a couple, accompanied by excellent wines and surprising dishes. The wine list is extensive, with many options also available by the glass. The selection of Orange wines is very interesting, often complemented by off-the-list bottles: our advice is to trust the staff and let them guide you. We chose the Dinavolino, a macerated white with citrus notes, perfect for the sunny day we were enjoying. The kitchen offers bites that, in quality and quantity, could easily compete with the dishes of a full-fledged restaurant. Really delicious food and various wines with top service!

I'm a Japanese woman who loves natural wine. The owner of Chenin Chenin, a liquor store specializing in natural wine, recommended Bar Centraal for drinking in the area, so I decided to check it out. Apparently, it was featured in Gault Millau 2024, and the terrace seats were always full, proving just how popular the bar is. The atmosphere is lovely, but the service staff's manner and attitude are what really make it so appealing. They're friendly and attentive. Grilled Eggplant with Greek Yogurt and Sichuan Sauce : The portion was larger than I expected, filling me up quite a bit. To be honest, the sweet and spicy flavors were a bit too strong for my liking, but the challenging food presentation made it enjoyable. Wine : The list is as shown in the photo. Many of the wines are available in Japan, so it's a reliable bar that carries the classics. This is a comfortable place to enjoy food and wine. Natural wine lovers should definitely check it out!

Very cool and relaxing corner to meet with friends, have nice chat with the company of delicious bites and drinks. The atmosphere is nice and you have the option to sit inside or outside - depends on the good weather in The Netherlands 😊 -.

For a wine bar the food selection is very diverse and great quality, we were pleasantly surprised. Friday evening party of 4, reservation definitely required. We sat inside as the weather was not very good. Environment is quite loud but doable for a small table conversation. Dogs are allowed but I would not recommend as the tables are rather close to each other, I don’t think it would be convenient for your pet. Fabulous selection of wines, of course!

Grabbed a table for one tucked into the corner on a chilly March Monday on my last evening in Amsterdam. It’s charming, not loud, has a phenomenal food menu, with great natural wines (not too funky) and dear staff. Vibes were immaculate and the only thing missing was a friend to relish in the delight.

Cozy setting for absolutely delicious cuisine. Expect to share these dishes! Staff are accommodating and knowledgeable, and wine selection and deserts are really quite nice. All of this at very reasonable prices. We had 4 courses and desert and managed to keep it all vegetarian!

I ask for a nice cappuccino. They do have them, but I was told they are actually a wine bar. Furthermore, perfectly helped. Nice strong ginger tea

Good place to drink beer in a very good atmosphere

Arrived in Amsterdam for a few days with my partner for a short break, staying near by and decided to have a chilled evening, finding Bar Centraal nearby. Absolutely perfect for what we were looking for. Cosy and beautiful atmosphere and decor. Attentive and lovely staff. We had some delicious natural wines, the cote de rhone being a standout. The food amazing, with delicious bread, duck rillette, cheese and incredible mackerel!! So good. Won’t be surprised if we come back before the week ends 😅 thanks guys!

We were for a 'pure wines' event but it was not what we expected. The staff was very helpful and nice, but the dishes I had, Brussels sprouts and mackerel, did not meet expectations. My dining companion had polenta and wood pigeon and he really liked it.

This is one of my favorite spots in Amsterdam. They have a great selection of wine. There’s always something fun to try. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. The food is delicious and inventive. The menu changes so it’s nice to have new dishes to try. Also has a good atmosphere and the terrace gets good afternoon sunshine. Highly recommend!

Here’s Had an awesome evening at Bar Centraal! 🍷 The wine selection is fantastic, with our absolute favorite being the Virose, an orange Gewurztraminer that combines two of my favorite things—what a delicious combo! We tried a few dishes: started with the truffle toast, which was rich and indulgent, and followed it with a beautifully fresh plate of shaved veggies. For the main, we had tender, flavorful octopus, and we wrapped up with some top-notch ice cream for dessert. The portions could be a bit more generous, especially given the price, but the taste and creativity shine through. With only two waiters, service is a bit stretched, but once we had their attention, they were fantastic—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. Thank you to the whole team for a memorable dinner with delicious, creative food, incredible wine, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Can’t wait to return!

Great value for money natural wine list!

Excellent food and wine. The staff is very knowledgeable and passionate about wine.

Bar Centraal has really good vibe, however the service is very poor. We have waited 10 min at the table, just to be asked to change for another table and then after 10 min I needed to ask to be served. The lady bartender was annoyed, sent another waiter to us only after another 5 min. So It took 25 min to take the order for just drinks. It wasn’t even that busy. Also the lady from the bar took orders firstly from other people who came later. I am very disappointed.

It took a while before we were placed, but no stress. Were warmly welcomed and then quickly water on the table and the menu. We have eaten here before and it was very good. Once again a pleasant experience with the lovely hostess and excellent bottle of wine. 10/10. See you again soon!

Great wines and very good food! Staff was friendly and suggested a orange wine, which I have never had before and really enjoyed! They get busy at night, If you don’t like waiting for a table make reservations.

Delicious sharing dishes. The menu changes a lot, so Bar Centraal always surprises with new dishes and flavor combinations. The extensive selection of natural wines is also a nice discovery. A favorite address in Amsterdam.

Sympathetic staff. The mackerel was a young one - half of it and not much left - was well roasted, but a bit high priced at €18. The celery in the slightly too cold salsa it was served in was the only accompaniment. Perhaps the intention was to combine small dishes, but this manual was not given verbally and was not on the menu. An attractive place where you can relax.

You can always judge a place by its cheese board selection. When it comes to dairy delights, Bar Centraal is a head ahead of most other Amsterdam bars. For those more interested in liquids that haven't been left to go mouldy, the wine selection is also gr at.

What a great night. I love that the menu is small, it usually means you will get excellent quality as the focus is tight on each dish. The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely, dimly lit and cosy, perfect for a date or casual catch up with a small group of friends. The wines are excellent, an amazing selection which you can sample before committing to the whole glass. The front of house team are a delight, kind, knowledgeable and not pushy. The food was absolutely delicious. Owing to a very large lunch I wasn´t incredibly hungry but knew I had to come here. I had the artichoke and sourdough with shrimp butter. It was simply the largest artichoke I´d ever seen, meaty and perfectly cooked with smoked egg mayo. Simple but so delicious and the shrimp butter with the fresh sourdough was amazing. The dessert of cardamom ice cream with strawberries and candied pine cones was a real treat. I had no idea pine cones were edible but they were delicious. This is truly a fine dining experience in a relaxed setting which is a gem, my only negative point that as a solo traveller I couldn´t try more things! I will be back!

Lovely terrace seating. We had a bottle of orange (or 2 😉) on recommendation. Tried a few and they were all good. Food was also delicious - nice cheese board and amazing miso cauliflower. They took car of my nut allergy also. Overall great experience. Pricey.. but worth it for a splurge or special occasion and it was my birthday 🥳 😃👍

Diabolical experience! Avoid!! Yesterday I went there for my birthday, made a reservation online, as soon as we got there we were seated by one of the super two rude staff who let us seat without taking any orders for us to drink leaving us to wait for 30 mins before we got a drink 😂 Then to our surprise her colleague who came to serve us our first drink (after 30 mins) didnt even say hi to us but said: do you even hve a reservation???? As if we were not welcome at all, when we clearly had a reservation online. The rudeness was off the charts, these girls went on ignoring us the whole night for no reason being nice and serving all the guests except for us. We ordered food and one dish came and another dish took 40 minutes to come. We waited for 30 mins then we asked the staff if the other food was coming ( it was my bday and I wanted to eat together with my friend ) To our surprise the staff said in a very rude way: you have to understand its impossible for your food to come at the same time!! I worked in hospitality for 5 years before as a student and lived in netherlands for 10 and never seen such weird and rude atitude. Most dishes should be served at the same time we had a table with 2 not 15 people. Also the bar was not busy she simply forgot our food and drinks order and gave us an extremely rude response. I ate the food and we never got our drinks served. We stood up to pay the bill because they kept ignoring us for no reason ( they had this attitude from the beginning and the bar was not busy at all) simply because we were english speakers. When we wen to pay the rude staff said oh so sorry I never brought your wine order in a very weird tone knowing she did that on purpose. Never again, what a nightmare for my birthday.

If English-speaker are not welcome, might as well write down on their chalk board. Would not advise to go there, give your money to other better places!!!!!! The whole is experience was really bad. Right from the beginning, even before being seated, the staff were barely acknowledging my and my friend’s presence and we came there for her birthday. From there on was bad vibes already and they kept ignoring us and helping other guests and we didn’t have a drinks. It took us an 1h for my food to come, enough time for others to get their drinks, food and leave. The food was disgusting, really not worth the price. Apparently they are uncapable to ask the kitchen how long it’s going to take, because “obviously the food doesn’t come at the same time” ???? Clearly they were ignoring us, ignoring and forgetting our orders, but were nice to the others guests.

Looking for a cozy wine bar with amazing food - come here. The staff is very friendly and they know their wines. The bar is comfortable and I really enjoyed eating there. Take your time ordering the dishes and enjoy the wines. The bread with the bone marrow butter was so flavorful and warm. The artichokes were scrumptious and delicate. The cod was subtle and the mackerel was perfectly torched. And the people were wonderful.

Excellent address, modern cuisine, perfectly executed and full of flavors. A superb wine list with numerous winegrower references. Top service with a smile and a real bistro atmosphere. I highly recommend going there and enjoying it.

A very nice place. nice and close together, nice wines and really fantastic dishes. The staff is relaxed and knowledgeable. The dish with leek, goat cheese and sorrel granite is fresh, creamy and sweet and sour - perfect. The dish of potato millefeuille, trumpet de la mort and comte foam is heart-warming. I will return!

Started hopefully. Wine was good, olive oil and bread too. Furthermore, it got worse per dish. Leek with muck, it gave me a brain freeze. Was taken back to the kitchen but was still on the bill. Quite a hassle. Cannot pay in cash.

Everything we had was excellent. The sommelier gave us some really good advice about wine; there was a great selection. All the staff we were all lovely and service was very good despite it being really busy. The small plates were all really tasty and much better value for money than London! We loved the potatoes and comte 🤌🏻
