Abrasive bartender was unhelpful when choosing an unknown beer and could barely be bothered looking up from his 'reading'. He didn't pour us what we'd ordered, and grunted an obligatory 'you're welcome'. Won't be back, even for the right beer.

Not sure what to make of it other than a shake down. Bartender was hyped and friendly. My husband went out side to smoke and the bartender followed.. two people walked up to talk in Dutch. The bartender ran inside, locked the front door and went to lock se side door where my husband was as walking in. The bartender laughed it off but was VERY disgruntled when we stood up and agreed to leave- when he retuned inside. Idk maybe the bartender said they were closed, or maybe he was just locking my foreigner husband out to get jumped. Don’t recommend.

I came here because I’d heard the atmosphere was great and the beer was worth trying. And yes, the place does look nice. But here’s the catch: before you’re even allowed to order, you’re apparently expected to stand there and “politely” ignore the fact that you might urgently need the restroom. I was told I couldn’t use the facilities until after I chose and ordered a drink. So there I was, with a full bladder, being asked to carefully study the beer list and make a thoughtful decision, as if that’s easy under such conditions. Not exactly the kind of hospitality you hope for when you walk into a bar. To sum it up: good vibes, tasty drinks (from what I hear)… but customer service that seems to say, “hold it, or else.” One star for that kind of welcome.

Bad place, boring atmosphere. If you want to have a few beers with your cousins, I'd skip this place.

Después de caminar por la ciudad, inicialmente intentamos una mesa en otro bar cercano, pero nos dijeron que estaba demasiado ocupado, ¡y gracias a Dios! Luego entramos en el café Brandon y ¡guau! ¡Fue como volver cientos de años atrás! El hombre del bar realmente servicial explicó la historia del lugar, cómo nada había cambiado demasiado desde el siglo 1600 y simplemente nos dejó boquiabiertos! ¡Vale la pena visitarlo!

Zeer oude kroeg in het centrum van Amsterdam, veel is authentiek en versleten, maar een sfeertje! Geweldig en daarnaast ook kei gezellig. Verwacht geen luxe.

Best place to get drunk, dance and mingle

This place smells and has a terrible beer and wine selection. But it’s weird and wood paneled and plays good music and I like it.

Cafe Brandon is a great spot for drinks with a lively vibe and a friendly crowd. The atmosphere is warm, with music setting the perfect tone for a relaxed evening. They serve a good selection of alcoholic beverages, and the staff are attentive. However, it tends to get very crowded, especially on weekends, which can make it a bit hard to get in. If you don’t mind the buzz, it’s a fantastic place to unwind with friends and enjoy the energy of the place.

Super fun café. Old local Amsterdam café. As in many Amsterdam cafés there is a mixture of generations going there who all intermingel with one another. This is a foreign concept to most cultures. I did not eat there.

If I lived in Amsterdam I would be a regular. Love the old school spit and sawdust vibes, shabby chic decor and location. Nice selection if beers (not huge, just enough). Friendly staff and obviously liked by the Dutch. Will definitely return someday.

As soon as we arrived at this bar (on a Sunday), the barman immediately put us at ease, I recommend a good beer, I drank 4 of them, super atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff who work there as I could also go and get a pizza next door and eat in that same bar, I recommend going there for a drink!!

The place is not for eating, mostly for drinking, very cozy and authentic, however super crowed after 00:00, you can barely move.

A corner full of magic with this place, with an especially pleasant and beautiful environment, makes it super attractive to have a drink or beer and share with your partner or friends, I love it

Last tuesday there was a squatters information night, lots of activists there and i got very useful information on how to squat empty spaces in the centre and they provided free vegan meals for homeless people. Definitely go here if you want to meet activist people, there was also a pro palestine protest organized here. Lots of locals too, not like other places in the neighboorhood, we stan a punk atmosphere ACAB💓💓

We had quite a misunderstanding at the bar. Luckily the bouncer helped us out and found the owner of the bar who was quick to apologize in a very honest and humbe manner. Faith in humanity restored. Drinks were good. While the ambience is quite cozy, the decoration is quite creepy.

Traditional bar with nice classic, intentionally vintage/run-down vibe and decor, and mixed crowd of visiting tourists and local (Dutch and expat) regulars. Some of the furniture is genuinely at the end of its life, though – I had to change seats after a while as the bottom of my seat had all but completely fallen through, as well as being wet through. Standard draught beer selection at reasonable prices. Service could be much friendlier, though – I found the bartender (who's possibly also the owner?) to be more than just the typically charming 'Amsterdam' level of rough-around-the-edges, and actually (beyond) borderline rude. (At first I thought he was joking with the off-hand remark he made while I was paying for a round, but it soon became clear he wasn't). I won't hurry back as a result, which is a shame as it's otherwise a nice no-frills spot in a conveniently central location.

We love Cafe Brandon. The floors are crooked, the carpet is dirty, there's cobwebs in the corner, the beers are cold, the service is friendly and the people watching out of the huge windows is top-notch. We are expats and we bring all of our visitors here. If you're looking for a Dutch dive-bar with soul, this is your place.

Décor très atypique. Tout est vieux, usé et kitsch. On a bien aimé l'ambiance. Le service était correct mais sans plus. Je pense que c'est plutôt un bar pour habitués que pour touristes.

We just passed by this bar on a night out and got pulled in by the atmosphere. A beautiful mix of locals and tourists was standing outside of the cafe (which is much more a bar than cafe) at the corner and the canal’s edges. Indoors it can be rather cramped on a Friday night but that didn’t stop people from dancing and having a good time! Next time in Amsterdam, we’ll pay another visit to Café Brandon for sure.

Lovely old bar with great prices and more character than you can shake a herring at. Spent a couple of hours there and everyone I met was lovely. Don't bother going if you intend to keep to yourself.

Um típico café. Muito antigo, muitas fotos, muito confortavel. Único. Serve apenas bebida, mas fomos lá pra isso mesmo, então ótimo.

Lokale Bar an der man draussen sitzen kann. Das Interieur ist eine Zeitkapsel aus den 50er Jahren. Coole junge Betreiber. Abends ausgelassene lockere Stimmung. Hier treffen sich die Amsterdamer aus der Gegend auf ein Bier. Ein Bier nachts im Brandon sollte man getrunken haben, wenn man in Amsterdam ist.
