Nice ambience. Beautiful cutlery and tableware. The inside is like old wooden Dutch pubs. All dishes were simple heartwarming and delicious. Simple but very satisfying food. Homemade vinaigrette sauce was top. Lamb was melting in our mouths. Dessert was also amazing. Mocktail was supreme. The only regret was the bread. Definitely not worth the price and no toast bread can be better than traditional bread with good crust served with butter. There are different options for course menus and good a la carte options.

Tip for everyone: take a look at the responses of the owner/restaurant to 'less good' reviews. Perfectly reflects the level of hospitality/cordiality/professionalism. Unfortunately not the best experience. Upon arrival we were already rushed about the fact that our reservation had ended an hour and a half later. Furthermore, the menu did not leave much to the imagination, I honestly did not expect chicken as a main course. Too high a price for low quality if you ask us. Ten minutes before the end time of the reservation, we were “kindly” asked to pay the bill and put on our coats. If I'm honest I wouldn't recommend this :) there are much better restaurants around. Almost feels a bit like a “tourist trap”.

I had dinner here with a friend last weekend and we both really regretted making this reservation. Because it was the weekend we could not order a la carte but only a surprise menu, the waiter could not say which dishes we would get, so there was nothing to choose from. I chose the vegetarian option, my girlfriend meat. As the first course we got 3 lettuce leaves with 5 mussels. Unfortunately I really don't like mussels, so that was the first disappointment, my girlfriend also ate my starter. Then the second course, which in my case was 2.5 bites of lukewarm fish. Fortunately, the potatoes and sauce that came with it were tasty. My girlfriend had a piece of lukewarm lamb. Our glasses were empty, but the waiter didn't ask if we wanted anything else to drink. He was already on his way elsewhere. So we still had to wait before we could order a glass of wine with our second course. For desert we were served one crepe on one plate, which we had to cut in half and divide ourselves. The bill for this deception? €157.00 (!) We were both still hungry when we left, disappointed with the quality of the food and continued to the snack bar to satisfy our hunger. We found the service mediocre, there was little involvement from the staff, which I am used to in other places for that price. All in all a regrettable experience and the high bill still leaves a bitter aftertaste a few days later.

We had an amazing experience at Bar Gui. The atmosphere it’s amazing, the small bar and the bartender are super nice. We had cocktails and the 6 course menu. The food is really good. Be prepared for a bit of noise and a crowded bar.

In their first week I had dinner here and it was truly great. Guillaume has a great reputation when it comes to creating French fine dining and it shows. Would really recommend.

We had a great time here on New Year's Eve and forgot to shoot any photos as we were too focused on the great food and atmosphere. Their menu was very interesting, I would describe it as Dutch fusion. One side of the restaurant was a lot nicer than the other, so I advise to ask a table in the dining side (not bar counter side).

Foodie worthy Amsterdam experience!

A very interesting enterprise located in very special premises. We were here for dinner on the last day of 2024 and overall enjoyed the tasting. Some courses literally brought us back to our childhood (tartare, pasta) and some were very intense and overcombined (scallops, chicken). The drinks were great. The service was very pleasant throughout. I recommend visiting, the business is just at the beginning and will get better and better.

We ordered the 5-course festive menu. Everything was incredible. Amazing service, astonishing food, great bar atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

Ever had a meal so good it feels like a secret you just have to share? That’s Bar Gui in Amsterdam a hidden underground spot where Chef Guillaume de Beer brings the French coast to life with every dish. The surprise three-course menu blew us away, and the vibe is just as special: modern chic meets rustic charm, with cozy wooden accents and stylish lighting. We’re still dreaming about the fresh bread with salted Brittany butter that melted in our mouths. From the squid with black orzo to the crêpe with salted caramel, every bite was perfection. This is the kind of place you don’t want to miss!

A great culinary experience. I chose the 6 courses menu for a business diner on Tuesday night. Every dish was very tatesful, with interesting flavours, all perfectly cooked (lived the anise touch in the chicken and mushroom dish). Good wine selection and a very nice welcome.

The food was sub-par. The Croque Madame was wonderful if you like a runny egg on burnt toast. My advice is to find somewhere else to eat. It was also expensive for what it was.

We took the 6 course chefs surprise menu for dinner. Each course was carefully curated and delicious.

We went there on a fully booked Saturday night. Its very tight and noisy underground location. It is difficult to have a normal conversation. The food, given the price, is extremely disappointing. Very limited options if allergic to nuts which was not communicating properly when prompted about it on the phone prior to booking. Started tartar and bread were really good. The steak was extremely rare, it almost jumped off the plate. We were not asked how we would like it cooked and also the knife was not sharp at all making it really unpleasant experience. The pancake while nice, was 1 to share between 2 which was a bit too little. The wine, was on the pricey side but really good. The service on the evening was good enough but communication upfront was poor in relation to the allergy and options available. If not allergic, you will likely enjoy the multi course menus but in my opinion is not worth the high premium. In any case, avoid the steak! Edit! response to the owner: Yes, you could have cooked the steak longer, but nobody asked before or after, and it was the same for both steaks for the group of 4. Im not trying to sabotage your business, but for us, a party of 4 spending over 500 euros for a small starter, desert and 2 uncooked steaks was not exactly the dining experience we were expecting hence why the 1 star.

We went with the surprise menu and very happy about it. Six dishes and all was delicious. We asked bread as additionally, it was not included in the menu if thats the case with you too, you must try it! Best bread ever!

Easily the best meal we had in Amsterdam, and one of the best I've had in my life. We got the bread, the caviar pasta, and the caramel apple crepe for dessert. The bread was absolutely incredible—like a fluffy cloud with a delicious crispy outer. We ended up ordering a second, it was so good. The pasta was absolutely divine, as was the dessert and the wait staff was very kind. Can't wait to go back next time we visit!

Great dinner spot. Food had plenty of flavor, we were surprised by a mussel soup with tomatoes and the caviar pasta, the bread is worth a try. For dinner they offer 3 different menus with some options to change. Waiters are extremely nice, place is tiny. Amsterdam standard prices I would say.

Caramel crêpe desert was also incredible, you need to contain yourself from not licking the plates. Wine selection is also nice, great pet nat. We had the carte Blanche menu (6 courses), we may have thought it was a bit much, but it was perfect portions. We walked out the door satisfied. The carpaccio, pasta with stew and marrow broth, goat tenderloin and the pancake with salted caramel were really the standouts. You would like to lick your plate, but that is so inappropriate. It can get very warm in the lower part of the restaurant, but that should not spoil the fun. It's nice that you can dine all evening and have no shifts. Enjoyed it immensely and will definitely come back.

We had an early seating so unfortunately could only do the 3 course menu. The food flavors were lovely, though at an extra 35 pp the beef had a lot of fat. You have to GET THE BREAD! Service was great and super friendly. Cocktails were just ok, but a nice wine selection. The vibe is super cool! Dark and cozy but also edgy and hip.

If you want something 'different' than the 100 French bistros in Amsterdam, then you've come to the right place. We went for the carte blanche and it certainly did not disappoint. Not all dishes were to my taste, but that does not detract from the quality. Haven't had such a surprising meal in a long time! The squid orzo and bread were great. Nice service too. Too bad the restaurant wasn't full because it deserves to be ;).

Best food I’ve had in Amsterdam in the 13 years that I live here. 6 courses for 68e + the bread (its definitely something you have to try, fluffy, crispy and accompanied by delicious salted butter) which are filling enough that you don’t need anything else. Each course was unique, flavourful and well explained when served. Paired with a great bottle of natural white wine. Will definitely come back. It was served during 2 hours, so if you want a quick dine in I would recommend telling them.

What a surprise! Lovely greek staff with some really good recommendations. We wanted to go for the 3 course pre theatre dinner, but they dont have it anymore. But we are easy, so 6 courses it is! And I must say that it were 6 surprising and fantastic courses. Taste, execution and quality of the products were superb. Havent had such a great experience in NL for such a long time (while we even had lunch at Librije not too long ago!). They have some really interesting wines om the list too. Yes this place leaves me a bit speechless 😁

It was honestly one of my worst experiences ever. When we arrived, the cook was sitting outside with his fingers between his toes and I didn't have a good feeling about the food and thought it was very unhygienic for someone who was preparing the food. The food was not special or tasty at all, so it is really not worth your money. The seats on the terrace are not comfortable at all and the restaurant is very small, dark and musty inside. The waitress constantly made a comment about the food as she walked by, which could be very annoying when you just want to eat in peace. Long story short, unfortunately not recommended.

I used to work in fine dining and idk how this place is not in the Michellin Guide or have a star, the simplest but most beautifully executed dishes from the course was incredible, the warm and casual service from the waiters but still maintain an eye on details. Definitely will come back

We were very disappointed for this restaurant that was recommended to us : - cooking is average with limited creativity and too much spice to it - service was approximative and did not make us confortable - environment was noisy, underground - price was very high (nearly 100€ per person)

Staff, menu, creativity, taste and quality. I took two friends with me and we all left extremely satisfied by how they hosted us. Restaurant has a darker intimate area and a more lighter calm one; we got offered what setting we prefer. We went for the carte blanche with one pesca, was not a problem at all. Bread and butter is a piece of art, squid ink cooked orzo with squid is one of the most deepest and balanced things I’ve ever had, oyster jalapeño is a dish on its own… and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. All courses had a perfect time in between it, staff was present in a very attentive and pleasant way, dishes came out right temperature and everything got explained. Reading some negative reviews; considering the flexibility, friendliness and communication of the staff to table we’ve experienced; I am totally convinced that if you communicate your wishes or issues on the spot you walked out with a way better energy ánd night. And gave them a fair chance to show them what they got. And maybe a spot with some balls in their approach in menu and inventive use of ingredients and way of serving is just not made for everyone, but I really can’t bring up a place that’s located that well and is able to serve such a good night and service (flexible, professional and smiling staff) within this price. The carte blanche menu will cost you 89,50 a person and is the showcase of the restaurant; sorry but I can’t bring up a place on the canals that is able to serve so good with such qualitative ingredients and even the butter that feels like crack. Not saying it’s not a big amount of money; but do think of the fact you will be serviced for 2 hours with around 5-6 dishes (I forgot exactly). Considering the profit a restaurant still has to make of this it’s extremely rare for Amsterdam hospitality to set-up your restaurant like this and must take a lot of courage. So know where you rate a place on or even realise before you do.

Huge disappointment, starting from the menu, very poor selection and presented even worse, non-existent wine list with fake natural wines, how sad, the food then all based on pepper, we were also sick, obviously, a total disappointment.

It’s true: food is quite nice, great flavours. And yes the fluffy buttery bread is absolutely fabulous! Of which i have no picture, I simply forgot. Also true: some annoying flies. And I didn’t particular like the closeness to the adjacent tables and the low ceiling on the left hand side of the restaurant, so asked if we could move to the other end, which ofc wasn’t an issue. Big S/O to the amazing service, you two made it even more enjoyable.

Waiting 3 hours for 3 courses is insane - if kitchen can’t handle the load you shouldn’t accept so many tables. Starter was okay, nothing exquisite. Main dish is the biggest disappointment - hard to chew meat that has no taste, sauce that’s so liquid you can’t feel the flavor besides the grains of pepper it has in it, quickly marinated cabbage that any pub can make. We were so annoyed and hungry by the time the dessert came that it made it absolutely not memorable - and I thought it wouldn’t be possible with the food as bland as in this place. People were leaving cause the food was taking so long. Oh and also all the flies that were bothering us, toilet floor covered in piss, and space so crowded you get claustrophobic.

Carte Blanche, 8 courses with vibrant flavors and combinations. The food is nothing to complain about, strong flavors but balanced. This time the smoked eel was served with white asparagus, tasty and slightly crispy. Carpaccio of fatty beef, thickly sliced ​​for easy chewing but therefore incredibly tasty with a spicy sauce that feels fresh. Always use the buttery Pain de Mie to sop up the sauces. Wine suggestions were very good, and the natural wines were certainly recommended. The downside was the presence of fruit flies and, as can only happen in a Dutch restaurant, the waiter took the glass of wine with the fly away without an apology or compensation.

Great food but was absolutely not impressed by cocktails

We loved the inventive surprise tasting menu. Service was friendly and nicely spaced out. The one drawback was that it was quite loud in the first room. Luckily we were offered a seat in the backroom where it was much quieter. I highly recommend this place to anyone while in Amsterdam!

It was really, really good. The atmosphere, the food and the service! Even the potatoes with the main course were really tasty. We ordered bread twice because we thought it would be such a shame to leave the sauce on the plate. Highly recommended!

So I had really high hopes this place, especially given all the reviews. The bread was amazing like amazing and the carpaccio was delicious. The rest of the food was far below average, the steak was rare and not medium rare and was a bit too rare for me. Cucumber thing was a course on its own and tasted like absolutely nothing (which was weird for me). The fish and asparagus thing was so so as well, like I was missing any kind of taste. The pancakes was delicious. So my favourite of the entire meal was the bread and pancakes.

We didn’t know what to expect at Bar GUI but were so pleasantly surprised. This place is an absolute gem - the food is experimental, unusual and so utterly delicious. I described each course to the waitress as ‘popping candy exploding in the mouth’ - a wonderful mix of delicious flavours, each as unexpected as the next. The venue feels like a cosy, secret speak-easy hidden under the streets of Amsterdam. Wonderfully friendly staff and a real treat. We talked about our visit for hours after leaving. Thankyou for a wonderful evening.

Not worth the money and service is not attentive either. The food looks nice but is not really tasty or served at the right temperature. It is also very special that they are at the bar pouring the rest of the wine from one bottle into the other.

Unique menu with possibility to choose between a different number of dishes. Got the 5 dishes options and both quality of the products and a unique mix of flavors were really good. Kuddos to the beef carpaccio and the smoked eel. The bread is homemade and outrageously expensive, but so good that it is finally worth it.

The service was good and our host Arthur was friendly and thought along with us. However, the food was disappointing for the price you paid. You pay top price for food that is a bit boring. In addition, you are also in a tight spot, while again, you pay the main price. There are nicer restaurants in Amsterdam that I would rather recommend.

One of the top 3 meals we’ve had in Amsterdam. Came here as our last meal before moving from NL permanently. And thats the sad part; we would have been here more often! Star of the show was the confit leek with charred leek oil, and the humble yet delicious cabbage with cheese foam and orange relish. Not to be missed: the bread and butter🔥🔥🔥. Special mention to our server Cristina. The restaurant was full and they were hustling, but she kept checking in with us and anticipated our needs and knew the menus and wines; and this certainly doesn’t happen in many restaurants here. The rudest service in Amsterdam. Bad beef, good bread.

Vibe is the perfect amount of intimate and perfect for either a date or dinner with friends. The food is also really good, definitely try their bread and butter (superb), and their oysters (great). We also ordered their famous toastie with bone marrow, which was good but nothing to write home about. They have options between 3 course or 5 course, and I went for the 3 which consists of a delicious charred leak and fluffy egg starter, followed by a delicious steak in peppercorn sauce, and ended with an incredible ice cream crepe. Highly recommend this spot.

The atmosphere is great and our host was really attentive, 10/10 guy. Unfortunately he was spread too thin on a not so busy night. The food was passable for the price, we went for the three course meal and it was nothing special. The atmosphere was good though.

Great decoration and atmosphere. It’s really a cozy restaurant. Staff is really nice too. However food wise, it’s good but nothing special. We chose the 3 course menu (~50€). We got served a creamy mousse with asparagus, which was good but not out of-this-world good (it’s plain asparagus…). Main was a tataki of beef with pepper sauce and huge portions of potatoes. Once again, good but not the surprises you expect from a wannabe high end restaurant. And dessert it’s just a plain crepe with caramel sauce… Definitely no surprises there. All in all, if you make cozy meals, give cozy prices. I am sure they can achieve great dishes but it just was not the case when I was there.
