With great food, peaceful atmosphere and friendly staff, we had a great night before leaving Amsterdam. Thank you

I went there with my boyfriend for a late evening dinner. We had the steak and the chicken thighs both of which were generous portions and were quite tasty. The menu has a lot of options so we were quite spoilt for choice. The waiter/waitress was super attentive and provided good service. If the weather is good then I would recommend sitting outside.

Good food and cozy but some employees are strange. Normally never had any problems. There was a lady who worked there who looked like she was under the influence. She was a tall lady. The rest of the employees were always nice. But that lady was really weird to us and she also took food from the guests. I thought it was a bit vague but it remains my favorite place!

You probably know that feeling: you've found your favorite (in my case Pastis in Oud-West), and then… you suddenly discover something that might be just that little bit better. That happened to me at Le French Café on Javastraat. What a pearl! From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was in Paris. The atmosphere is so French that you almost expect to see a row of Deux Chevaux's parked outside. Cozy, cozy, and with a nice buzz from guests who are clearly enjoying themselves. We started with a delicious tuna tartare on brioche. This was followed by a classic steak with Béarnaise sauce, crispy French fries and a simple but perfectly seasoned lettuce with mustard vinaigrette. To finish we had tarte tatin with calvados and vanilla ice cream – absolutely mouth-watering. The orange Sylvaner wine made it complete. Light, fresh and surprisingly suitable for all dishes. What makes it extra fun: it doesn't feel like a chain at all, despite the other locations. Personal, warm and super hospitable. And that in the middle of Javastraat – the perfect mix of French charm and Amsterdam cosiness.

Had a wonderful meal on the terrace in the sun. Steak with pepper sauce was delicious, steak tartare also tasted very good.

Atmosphere is super nice, really good service. Food was solid, but not outstanding, drinks are on the small side. We ordered some cocktails and it was basically 4/5 ice cubes and tiny bit of the cocktail itself - not justified for the price. Would have expected the service team to also check if we liked it, I'm always surprised when they don't. Overall we had a very nice evening, but not cheap for what you're getting

My boyfriend and I had a DELICIOUS meal here! The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for: cozy, not too busy, good acoustics and delicious food. The steak with pepper sauce was truly divine! We also received good recommendations for wine and food from the very helpful and hospitable staff. They took plenty of time to let us taste different wines. 1 word: great!

Fantastic 10/10 experience! - We started with a delicious drink and oyster on the attractive terrace. The service was extremely friendly and gave us perfect wine recommendations. Their knowledge and enthusiasm made the evening complete. The food was refined and of perfect taste — an evening to remember. We will definitely come back!

We sat at the 'reading table' with some friends on Sunday. We were warmly welcomed and first had a beer at the bar. The wine list is extensive and will be explained in detail at the table if requested. We shared the starters, especially the tuna on brioche and the rilette, which were very tasty. For the main course we had the meat and fish to share. The sea bass in particular was really excellent. All in all a delicious meal and we will definitely come back!

This afternoon we wanted to have a French drink on the terrace at 4:20 PM. After 10 minutes we went thirsty again even though we were still within sight of the staff. Shame!

We just had a wine and a beer. Nice service, fast and attentive. House wine as it should be: a decent merlot without frills.

What a wonderful place this is. Price-quality is right on all sides. In Amsterdam you will find few places where you can eat of this quality at reasonable prices. In addition, the staff is cheerful and friendly. Something they can still learn a lot from in France. The wine list really shines. A mix of good wines by the glass, but also wines that you will find in the gastronomic top of the Netherlands. I will definitely come back for this!! Chapeau team Le French Café

Last night we once again enjoyed the delicious food and the good atmosphere in Le French Cafe. The steak tartare, sea bass and tarte tatin were my personal favorite😍 I was helped very friendly and the restaurant was perfect on all sides: appropriate music, beautiful interior and cozy lighting. In short; you will see me again soon!!

Not much French food except for the names of the dishes. Some of the starters have absolutely ridiculous prices for the miniature size. It gets very loud in the evening.

A restaurant a little outside the center. The service was super friendly and was always attentive. I had the entrecôte with French fries. The fries were very good, unfortunately the entrecôte was served a bit rubbery. Our seats were in the front area, unfortunately there was a bit of a draft there.

I'm giving a two star review because of the price of the wine, and hope they do something about it. Normally a fan of Spatburgunder so chose this one. But the price of 8 euros (per glass) in combination with the quality is very inadequate. Next glass of Rhône wine. 9 peak. OK tasty but minimal quantity. These prices in combination with quality and quantity are a big inadequacy and reason for me not to come anymore. And that's a shame. Because the atmosphere is good, the food is tasty and the service is friendly. So tip: reduce the price of the wine by at least 2 euros per glass. Then you still have a good business model and more happy customers

Nice cafe/restaurant! There are now several excellent restaurants in the cozy Javastraat, Le French Café is a real success in terms of design, atmosphere and quality! You feel like you're in France for a moment.

Based on Google reviews (4.4 stars) and a look at the bistro-like interior, we (4 people) decided to have a bite to eat on Friday around 5 p.m. without a reservation. Unfortunately, the high expectations were not met. The biggest problem was that all 4 of our dishes (2x steak-frites and 2x the fish of the day; plaice fillet) were lukewarm at best. It also took a while before it was served; the service was not yet complete and came trickling in during our visit. The friendly service was therefore perhaps mildly understaffed, but... there was also quite a bit of chatting. That's okay, but it's a shame that the ordered bread was not delivered. Just asked one more time and it was served immediately. When paying, it was then on the bill twice. Through the semi-open kitchen (nice!) we saw our dishes being prepared. And ready, but the kitchen had to call twice to have our dishes served. The waitress seemed shocked by my complaint about the lukewarm food and went to report it to the kitchen. Nothing more was heard of it. There were also positives: The fries were great and the sourdough bread was, in a word, fantastic. The flavors of the dishes were good, although the strong shellfish sauce quite drowned out the plaice fillet.

Had dinner here with a group of twelve people. Ultimately we made a reservation with ten people. Very good service managed to arrange something in a fully booked restaurant. The main course was also delicious. The waiter gave me a personal recommendation that was very much appreciated. Top tent!

Everything is great about this! I have a gluten allergy and the chef came to our table to conveniently go through the menu to see what was and what was not allowed. All other staff also knew about the allergy and took it into account. In addition, cheerful, friendly staff and enjoyed the food

One of my favorite restaurants I've visited lately! Very extensive food and drinks from 5:00 PM until closing. French classics and nice prices for the house wine. The tarte Tatin can't be missed!!

We had a very nice and spontaneous servant. The atmosphere is very nice and very relaxed. The steak was cooked perfectly. The Caesar salad was also very tasty. A good amount of chicken, bacon, lettuce and croutons. The dressing was also perfectly balanced. All in all we had a wonderful evening here and enjoyed it immensely.

Really good food and cozy atmosphere

What a discovery; LeFrench. Delicious French dishes, excellent service and a very pleasant relaxed atmosphere. We had a 'chef's table', with a view of the kitchen. A very nice chef who told you what he was doing if you asked. The tastiest stake tartare as an appetizer, a super tender ribeye as a main and cheeses. There are still so many delicious things to discover on the menu that I have to come back. With two the cost was €140.

Amsterdam has a reputation for bad food, and it would be perfectly true if not for the existence of this delightful cafe. My first night in the city I ate here by myself and finished my book at the bar while drinking their excellent white wines and dessert wines. I enjoyed myself so much that when I was joined for dinner by my coworkers a few days later, I gave them no choice of restaurants, but brought them back for the steak tartare, sea bass, and steaks. Paired with the excellent food is an absolutely standout bartender/server, whose name, alas, I never got. She has promised to learn how to make me a sazerac upon my return.

The inside decor is really nice for a date. I prefer to eat indoors because their outdoor patio is on a busy street. The service is great. The food is okay - I go often to visit France so I am probably a bit picky. Overall I’d recommend this place for a date spot.

Great design and style and plenty of options. Reasonably priced drinks. Though I took the eggs benedict which was of quite inferior quality, with a thin small amount of ham and tiny eggs, though well prepared it didn't fill me up.

Pretentious chain that apparently makes a big impression among those less familiar with French provincial cuisine and brasseries... Food was ok but not special service at millennial level so mediocre.. Too bad Flore (Amstelstraat) no longer exists, where the French made futile attempts to bring the service up to French level 🙃

I use to stop here for a coffee (a good one and they offer you a glass of water ) because I like to see how the bridge open to let the boats pass The serving is so lovely, as usual in the Netherlands. Clean and nice decor.

We were quite charmed by the atmosphere, but we're only giving two stars due to the pricing and portion sizes. We were shocked to receive a half glass of cider that cost €7 for just a few sips. The €11 Spritz was also small and disappointing in flavor. We understand that Amsterdam can be expensive, but compared to other places, the drinks here are overpriced for the quality and quantity offered.

I've had steak frites here twice and it was perfect both times. The sauces and dressings are perfect and exceptional at the same time, the fries have the perfect thickness and crispiness. The decor is very tasteful and welcoming, as is the service.

Atmospheric French restaurant in Javastraat. Enjoyed the Ribeye with fries and salad, the crème brulee was one of the tastiest we have ever eaten. The cheese board was also good, although all the cheeses were a bit on the strong side for my taste and I would have preferred to eat it with a compote or chutney rather than with grapes. Service was excellent, very friendly and hard working. We had a very pleasant evening and will definitely come back!

We had a wonderful evening at le French Café last Saturday! We started on the cozy terrace with a nice bubble and delicious oysters. Then we enjoyed a delicious rosé that was recommended to us by the super nice, friendly staff! The starters were really delicious, especially the Thon et brioche is highly recommended! The main course was also a delight, the sirloin steak and sea bass were really great! We really enjoyed it at Le French Café and will definitely come back here soon!

Nice brasserie, good food and nice, cheerful staff. Still affordable, nice dishes. I came especially for the bouillabaise, which was unfortunately no longer available. Shells were very tasty (a little more lemon and cloth!) and the tartare was also tasty. Very tasty bread by the way (still warm). We were very early and it was empty inside at first, but not bad at all. Very cozy and atmospheric. There was something in my shells that didn't belong there, which was responded to and resolved well and with coffee and tea on the house. All in all very nice and delicious. I would definitely go back again.

We came across this place by chance because we were looking for a place to watch football. Drinks are affordable. The charcuterie too. I thought the price of the "cheese board" was downright ridiculous. That was a plate with 4 thinly sliced ​​pieces of French cheese. I did not know what I saw. The cheeses were blown away by a gust of wind. And that costs €14.50...

We had a great time! Tasty food and friendly hosts who made the evening perfect.

The atmosphere is cozy, with candles and white tablecloths on most tables. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, slightly on the slow side, but overall attentive. We had the charcuterie plateau, oysters, Caesar salad with chicken and the steak tartare with fries. Everything was presented nicely and looked fresh. The shallot vinaigrette complemented the oysters, the poached egg in the Caesar salad had was nice and creamy and the fried chicken was crispy outside and tender inside. The tartare had a nice kick to it, you could taste the pickles and raw egg yolk. The charcuterie plateau was packing some seriously salty cold cuts (the coppa and the salame especially), which made it very difficult to enjoy without having to rinse the mouth with water between every bite. I know cold cuts are salty, but I also know that there are good charcuterie products that don't leave you with the impression to have run 50k in the Sahara on a hot day. Cocktails were ok, not the best but also not the worst we drank in Amsterdam. The bill for one charcuterie, two oysters (total), one salad and one tartare (with one bottle of water, one cocktail and one mocktail) came at almost 100 euros. We visited on a Thursday at 20, so we were not rushed to get out after 1.5 hours like in most places in Ams, which in this day and age I have to acknowledge as a plus 😅

Le French Cafe is an oasis of excellent food in Amsterdam! I have enjoyed coming to this place many times and it only gets better. A cozy candle lit ambiance only adds to a marvelous experience here. Dishes are delicious and you can find french cuisine at it’s best. Carefully selected wine list and cocktails are available as well as small bites if that’s what you want. A big shout out to Job and the whole team for making evenings here so special. I strongly recommend this place!

Nice service, super tasty food. Cozy open kitchen and cozy interior. It was very quiet, lunch was already at 12:00 noon. Hence xxxx stars for the atmosphere, but when it is fuller, definitely 5 stars. Tasty fries and good mayonnaise and pepper sauce!

Not speaking of how the food and service at "Le French Café" were top notch and impeccable. I'm focusing on the bathroom situation. The bathroom experience at LFC is sublime. It fits the style of the place, and feels like a really nice and lived-in café somewhere in Lyon. My only concern would be the candle use at LFC -- it must be very impressive (really costly; there are a lot of them).

Went for drinks and had some fries. All was good enough for a Monday evening. Staff was very kind and the setting is quite nice.

This restaurant has a nice vibe to it. I was a fan of the interior and they really did well with the French theme. The food was okay. I had the entrecôte, and the stake itself was good, but the fries were just a bit too harsh (which is a bit French to be fair). The dessert was good, I would have liked it more if it would have been 50% 50% cream and mousse. The chocolate mousse was very heavy ( but good)! The staff were very sweet and nice!

Wonderful spot in the east with real French food. Two friends had dinner yesterday and it was pleasantly busy. There was a good atmosphere and the food was delicious! I had the Poussin with mashed potatoes. For dessert the tarte tatin. Everything was gone! Great tent!

What a gem of a restaurant in a place you wouldn't expect. A wonderful atmosphere like in the heart of Paris, tiled walls, basic but very tasteful furniture and of course the most important thing: the hospitality and delicious food. Highly recommended if you like shared dining, fish, shellfish and the real French bistro feeling! What a wonderful restaurant in the heart of Amsterdam East!

Informal atmosphere, indeed like a French café with a modern twist. dishes super tasty. The baked radicchio with sauce hollandaise particularly stood out, as did the rilettes (which were slightly heated). Recommended!
