I came here two weekends in a row for this heavenly goat chesse sandwich. But other dishes are delicious and nicely presented too. The relaxing and cozy atmosphere, great attention to details and hospitality of the crew is not something you can find everywhere, especially with this price range. Thank you team Le French Cafe!

I went there with my boyfriend for a late evening dinner. We had the steak and the chicken thighs both of which were generous portions and were quite tasty. The menu has a lot of options so we were quite spoilt for choice. The waiter/waitress was super attentive and provided good service. If the weather is good then I would recommend sitting outside.

Good food and cozy but some employees are strange. Normally never had any problems. There was a lady who worked there who looked like she was under the influence. She was a tall lady. The rest of the employees were always nice. But that lady was really weird to us and she also took food from the guests. I thought it was a bit vague but it remains my favorite place!

You probably know that feeling: you've found your favorite (in my case Pastis in Oud-West), and then… you suddenly discover something that might be just that little bit better. That happened to me at Le French Café on Javastraat. What a pearl! From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was in Paris. The atmosphere is so French that you almost expect to see a row of Deux Chevaux's parked outside. Cozy, cozy, and with a nice buzz from guests who are clearly enjoying themselves. We started with a delicious tuna tartare on brioche. This was followed by a classic steak with Béarnaise sauce, crispy French fries and a simple but perfectly seasoned lettuce with mustard vinaigrette. To finish we had tarte tatin with calvados and vanilla ice cream – absolutely mouth-watering. The orange Sylvaner wine made it complete. Light, fresh and surprisingly suitable for all dishes. What makes it extra fun: it doesn't feel like a chain at all, despite the other locations. Personal, warm and super hospitable. And that in the middle of Javastraat – the perfect mix of French charm and Amsterdam cosiness.

Atmosphere is super nice, really good service. Food was solid, but not outstanding, drinks are on the small side. We ordered some cocktails and it was basically 4/5 ice cubes and tiny bit of the cocktail itself - not justified for the price. Would have expected the service team to also check if we liked it, I'm always surprised when they don't. Overall we had a very nice evening, but not cheap for what you're getting

We sat at the 'reading table' with some friends on Sunday. We were warmly welcomed and first had a beer at the bar. The wine list is extensive and will be explained in detail at the table if requested. We shared the starters, especially the tuna on brioche and the rilette, which were very tasty. For the main course we had the meat and fish to share. The sea bass in particular was really excellent. All in all a delicious meal and we will definitely come back!

I'm giving a two star review because of the price of the wine, and hope they do something about it. Normally a fan of Spatburgunder so chose this one. But the price of 8 euros (per glass) in combination with the quality is very inadequate. Next glass of Rhône wine. 9 peak. OK tasty but minimal quantity. These prices in combination with quality and quantity are a big inadequacy and reason for me not to come anymore. And that's a shame. Because the atmosphere is good, the food is tasty and the service is friendly. So tip: reduce the price of the wine by at least 2 euros per glass. Then you still have a good business model and more happy customers

Based on Google reviews (4.4 stars) and a look at the bistro-like interior, we (4 people) decided to have a bite to eat on Friday around 5 p.m. without a reservation. Unfortunately, the high expectations were not met. The biggest problem was that all 4 of our dishes (2x steak-frites and 2x the fish of the day; plaice fillet) were lukewarm at best. It also took a while before it was served; the service was not yet complete and came trickling in during our visit. The friendly service was therefore perhaps mildly understaffed, but... there was also quite a bit of chatting. That's okay, but it's a shame that the ordered bread was not delivered. Just asked one more time and it was served immediately. When paying, it was then on the bill twice. Through the semi-open kitchen (nice!) we saw our dishes being prepared. And ready, but the kitchen had to call twice to have our dishes served. The waitress seemed shocked by my complaint about the lukewarm food and went to report it to the kitchen. Nothing more was heard of it. There were also positives: The fries were great and the sourdough bread was, in a word, fantastic. The flavors of the dishes were good, although the strong shellfish sauce quite drowned out the plaice fillet.
