Very nice and friendly staff, meal was excellent

Het eten was heerlijk, maar de service was echt ver beneden peil. Twintig minuten aan tafel gezeten zonder dat er iemand naar ons toe kwam met een kaart of de vraag of we iets wilden drinken, achter elke bestelling moesten we aangaan (‘we hadden een kwartier geleden een karaf water besteld’). We hadden het verrassingsmenu en tot 2x toe zette de ober het eten op tafel zonder te vertellen wat het was. Toen we nog koffie wilden en daarvoor naar de bar liepen (want we werden alweer een half uur genegeerd), kon dat niet meer. Moest €265,- aftikken voor 4 personen. Voor dat bedrag verwacht ik echt een stuk betere service!

Had a great time dining at Barentsz on multiple occasions, until this Saturday evening a rude host decided not to seat us in a half-full restaurant for the reason of being short-staffed. He weirdly made it sound like we were in the wrong and quickly dismissed us. I understand that things can happen and being short-staffed can be a valid reason, but I’m sure it could be at least handled with more hospitality.

I am a long time Amsterdam resident and believe me, you won’t get it any better than this in this beautiful city! Tasty food, great wines and friendly service with a set menu in the middle of a cute residential neighbourhood.

Had the chef menu for one person it was a four course meal- with multiple small dishes in each course Portion per course was decent, it amounted up to a lot in the end Quality of food was very decent, halibut and lamb neck were part of the main courses. The flavors blended well and every part of the dish was thoughtfully made. The chef also served the main courses herself and staffs were polite Will defo be back !

At Barentsz you will have a really nice evening thanks to the friendly service and the fantastically high quality of the food. Chic dishes with great flavors. Every plate is a little adventure (we went for the chef's menu).

Bij een wandeling had dit restaurant al onze belangstelling gewekt. Op een plek die duidelijk buiten het drukke centrum ligt en dan zo'n kaart? Het daarop volgende bezoek overtrof de verwachtingen ruimschoots. De combinatie van een prettige informele sfeer en met liefde gemaakte verrassende gerechten zorgden voor een ervaring die we graag nog eens willen meemaken. Complimenten!

We had dinner at Barentsz as a family and what an amazing meal we had. In fact, we loved it so much we had dinner there two nights in a row. The Chef is a gem! Highly recommend.

A wonderful evening! Really nice buzz to the restaurant, the team were attentive and very welcoming. We all enjoyed (thoroughly) the taster menu with accompanying wine. Every course was beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. Overall, highly recommended and I will definitely return again soon

In tijden niet zo lekker, gezellig en fijn uiteten geweest. Sfeervol restaurant, heerlijk eten en vooral de persoonlijke touch maakt dit echt een topplek. Je voelt dat elk gerecht met liefde bereid wordt en de koks/obers komen er dan ook met liefde wat over vertellen of een passende wijn aanraden. Echt een pareltje!

We had the chef's menu here and it was- absolutely spectacular. The lobster bisque was out of this world and the tartare a flavorful adventure. An actual hidden gem definitely worth a visit (or many more)

Heerlijk en verrassend gegeten. Elk gerecht is een nieuwe ontdekking van smaken. Mooie wijnen op de kaart. De bediening is vriendelijk en attent en er hangt een hele relaxte sfeer. Echt een aanrader!

A hidden new gem in Amsterdam. Excellent approachable service that's also very knowledgeable. The vibe is cosy and relaxed but don't be fooled by that cause the food is incredible. We had the Chef's choice that involved around 10 different dishes. The wine pairing suggested by the waiter was really good for the whites. One of the red wines was a bit too astringent for me but they won us again with the great selection of dessert wines. Many times overlooked. I also want to point out that the price to quality ratio is pretty much unmatched in Amsterdam. 10/10

Wat een pareltje is dit! We gingen in de regen het IJ over om hier onze trouwdag te vieren. Een gok. Waren er nooit geweest. Maar zulke goede recensies vraagt om langsgaan. En geen spijt! Wat een liefde en passie komt er uit de gezellige keuken. Verassend verfijnde gerechten die je vrolijk kunt delen. Heerlijke goed bijpassende wijnen. Een betrokken en vriendelijke bediening. Wij komen zeker terug!

Echt een heerlijke avond gehad bij Barentsz!! Zonder meer de moeite om langs te gaan. Fijne bediening, heerlijk eten en het restaurant ademt een persoonlijke sfeer.

Verfijnd, service, stijl, uniek!

I love the cozy and relaxed atmosphere of this place, and the service that was present but not invasive (gave us a lot of time to choose). But what I loved the most is the food: everything tasted excellent, but a couple of dishes really made me want to go back (every day :)): the octopus, the meat of the day (it was a veals loin with polenta) and the caramelized fig dessert. Honestly, heaven. We'll be back soon!

I was traveling from San Francisco and met a colleague traveling from Bangalore. We both agreed that the meal here was incredible and, more importantly, the atmosphere was fun and relaxed. We enjoyed the fact that the place serves Michelin quality food while employing teenagers (literally our waiter was 17). It made the place accessible and the opposite of stuffy. We did the Chef's Meal and simply had a great 3 hour adventure. I saw some posts about the service being slow. We thought everything was timed to perfection. Also, I don't know where people are saying the portions are small. My colleague and I are big guys (I'm 6'5" and weigh 220). We can eat. We didn't finish everything served to us! Literally every course was a food explosion in a refined, yet accessible place. Fish, veal, vegetables, etc. done in playful ways. Just terrific.

Good food! But service was extremely (really!) slow! We took the full menu of the chef and it took us 4h30 to get the food from the appetizers until the desert. Food was tasty but very small portions for the price paid. If you’re ready to wait, better order meals a la carte without the full menu.

Initially given 5 stars, now revised to 3. Our experience was overall enjoyable, thanks to the friendly and helpful staff, as well as the delicious food. However, I must express my disappointment during our second visit, as the entire experience took an exceptionally long time. Despite promptly ordering four dishes, it took far over two hours for them to be served. Due to the lengthy wait, we had to rush out without being able to order an additional dish or dessert, leaving us still feeling hungry.

Hands down, one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been. Food was 10/10, fresh, gorgeous and soooo tasty. Staff was lovely and it was great to be able to see the chefs and greet them (although I got shy and couldn’t profess my love for the food!)

Sehr leckeres Essen, ausgewogene Aromen und fantastischer Geschmack! Alle Gerichte waren super und der Service tadellos. Das Lokal ist einladend, die Bedienung freundlich und die Köche bringt das Essen persönlich an den Tisch. Perfekt für alle die das Besondere suchen. Uneingeschränkt empfehlenswert!

Rhubarb and white chocolate desert Leek and fried capers but where did they get that smoky spice taste from? it reminds me of Malaysian/Chinese dish I used to get 2 chefs came by table - a woman who said they used many ingredients to make some butter or sauce and a man who shook my hand when I came in and then came by and talked about the desert. It may not be as fancy as a Michelin star but with some of the dishes it may deserve multiple stars and you can tell the chefs are really into food! 70 Euro per person with drink and tasting menu. Although next time I might just order a bunch of dishes and not do tasting menu.

This place was perfect and off the tourist trail. Both the waiters were delightful and the food that came out of the kitchen was sublime - thank you Esther. The best tasting food I’ve had in a long, long time. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we couldn’t have wished for more. Thank you until next time.

Wat er uit de keuken komt is pure magie. Zelden zo lekker gegeten. Daarnaast vonden we de service fijn, en werden er heerlijke bijpassende wijnen geschonken.

The fantastic food that will delight your taste buds - don't miss the gorgeous leek (yes! leak is the queen of this amazing dish), delicious bisque, or fabulous fish of the day. The new rhubarb desert was delightful coupled with the desert wine recommended by the chef. What makes this truly an exceptional place is the service - starting from a warm welcome, wine recommendations and tastings, food suggestions and pairings, general attentiveness to every detail. Thank you for turning a normal evening into a memorable experience! We will be back for sure.
