Had a very good experience on a Friday evening in September. The place was full of diners, but we were served quickly with taking our order, and our meals were on our table within a reasonable time. The meal salads were tasty and filling. The staff was polite. The establishment is located in a beautiful historic building by the water and has a hip interior. A nice place for a bite to eat!

Worst hospitality experience in ages. If you are looking for a pleasant lunch with normal service, you have come to the wrong place. Everything went wrong: Total lack of service: Waiting 30 minutes for drinks. After 25 minutes, we had to walk inside ourselves to ask if anyone would take the trouble to take our food order. Disrespectfully long wait for cold food: After waiting another 40 minutes, the food was placed on the table cold. Unacceptable. Rude staff: When we were done and wanted to leave, there was no apology to be had. Instead, we were subjected to an extremely unfriendly argument about whether we had eaten any of it yet. Zero hospitality, dramatic wait times, and disrespectful treatment. Only paid for the drinks and never came back. Do not leave your money here!

Terrible. It is a lovely spot for drinks by the Zaan. For dinner, it is terrible. The food is very mediocre and the price is too high for it.

The terrace by the Zaan is truly a beautiful spot. The food can vary from time to time. This time it was good. There is ample parking for bicycles. The prices are normal.

We had such a delicious meal here. We did have to wait a little longer for our food, but that was because they were understaffed due to many sick people. So that was beyond our control. Because of that, we were offered a drink on the house. And in the end, we really had such a delicious meal. The steak was really super tasty, especially with the homemade mushroom sauce. I'm going back here next time. We also sat lovely by the water.

Eating outside on the air-cooled terrace. Varied bites and nice cold white beer on tap. Or downing 0.0 Skuumkoppe. Pleasantly bustling ambiance and something for everyone in terms of taste and finish.

Found the food very expensive for what you get, the tuna sandwich was very sour, I'm not used to that, maybe it was just the recipe, otherwise the service was fine.

Upon arrival, we were immediately asked if we wanted something to drink or eat. We asked if there was a drinks menu and received one right away, after which we waited another 30 minutes. People who arrived 15 minutes later already had their drinks. We then went over ourselves and asked if we could order something. The person first went to take other people's orders and came to us last. After 40 minutes, we were finally able to place our order. The drinks arrived quite quickly, but the cappuccino was still missing, for which I had to ask again. The cappuccino arrived another 15 minutes later. The food, however, was quick and tasty, and the rest of the service was friendly and fast.

Last time the service was very slow. We had to wait a long time and the food wasn't good. Today we gave De Bataaf a second chance, but it took 20 minutes before we were asked what we wanted to drink and then we were completely forgotten. Even when we asked a member of staff if we could order something, no one bothered to take our order. Never again for us.

I have been coming here for years and enjoy returning because of the location on the Zaan. Since the change of ownership, the place looks cozy. However, there are still some areas for improvement. As soon as it gets busier, the staff seems to lose track of things. It often takes a very long time before someone asks if you would like another drink. There is a lot of young and enthusiastic staff working here, but I sometimes miss an experienced person who manages the team well and has an eye for detail. The toilets could also be checked more often, as they are not always very clean. What I find unfortunate is that the patio heaters are almost never on and there are no blankets available (you could of course ask for them yourself, but the staff often move on immediately after you have placed your order). On cool summer evenings, this would allow guests to stay seated comfortably for longer. During our last visit, I ordered a sangria. It was served without fruit and without a stirrer. Perhaps a small detail, but it is precisely things like that that make the difference for me. All in all, a beautiful location with a lot of potential. With a little more attention to service and the small details, it could really become a great place.

Visit: June 21 (Father's Day) We certainly did not experience the earlier reports about long waits. We both had a delicious sandwich, but who came up with the idea to serve a soggy dish (Father's Day special/steak) on a piece of paper??

A delicious place, friendly and very fast service. On a hot day, the lack of or inoperable air conditioning prevented us from fully enjoying the delicious food. A small minus for the salad, which should have included tomatoes, but which we didn't receive and weren't informed of. Very tasty fries...

Beautiful spot and nice terrace. Good staff. We also had salmon with starters and dessert this time. Had a great meal, generous portions of starters and desserts. Worth repeating.

Really sat waiting 50 minutes for a first drink, and then still getting arrogant looks if you don't leave a tip. Yeah, sorry, but if you've had one round and been able to pay in 2 hours and 5 minutes, you're not worth that tip.

Beautiful location, but with 4 staff members, one of whom is stuck behind the bar on a beautiful sunny day, it is bizarrely poorly organized. The serving staff do their best, but the overview and therefore the service were poor. Waiting 45 minutes for a first drink…. The food was cold, but when it finally arrived, the quality was good. With a large group, it was a disappointing experience, unfortunately. See photo for details regarding the backlog. My colleague even cleared the table and cleaned it himself.

What a disappointment our visit was on Thursday evening, May 28th. We were seated on the terrace at 6:30 PM. At 6:45 PM, we were noticed and ordered a drink. At 7:00 PM, the drink still hadn't arrived, but we did manage to order something to eat. At 7:15 PM, the drinks arrived (unfortunately, beer with a collapsed head). Meanwhile, there were many complaining people around us, so we held our breath. At 8:00 PM, still no food, so we walked over to the waitress (we couldn't manage to get her attention) to ask if she could inquire when our food was coming. She told us that, unfortunately, she couldn't do that. At 8:15 PM, our patience ran out, and I tried to get her attention to just pay without food. Since this didn't work, I walked over to the waitress. I wanted to pay for the drinks but not the food, as it was taking far too long. She looked at her handheld device and casually told us that there was absolutely no food in the computer!!! She had taken the order herself, by the way. Paying for the drinks went fine (€10.80 for a Heineken draft beer and a lemonade), and there was not a single apology or gesture for the bad experience. Nice place, great location, but an organizational disaster.

What a disappointment. Went to the Batavia again out of nostalgia. After waiting an hour for food and asking twice without success, we left. We only received a Tom Kai soup that was too salty, which was taken back with apologies; we were given it back diluted with water, so the texture was completely gone. No, sorry, that is not a professional solution, offer something else. Drinks, however, arrive quickly.

BAD. The person serving table 232 walked back and forth but didn't take our order; we had to ask for it. The menu was well-presented, but the main course should have been served earlier. So either the kitchen or the waitress really dropped a steak there; the Dame Blanche was recommended warmer. For me, no reason to come back from the south again.

We unexpectedly decided to go out for dinner tonight. Batavia is within walking distance, so we took a chance without making a reservation. We certainly weren't the only ones; it was pleasantly busy, but luckily there were a few tables free. We had another delicious meal. The Chef's starter (carpaccio, salmon, soup, bruschetta, and a shrimp), and a main course each. A nice cocktail to go with it...😋

Terrible, what a disgrace! You think you're organizing a party for your mom turning 75 with older people well in advance, you discussed a nice corner, no rectangular table, and what do you think??? A rectangular table and not the cozy corner we agreed on! Even worse, such a long line for the toilet…… truly hopeless!! You get told 1 day in advance via voicemail and email that there's a bingo night…. They are a bunch of amateurs!! Great job, Zaan City Group!! I'm not going to recommend the Batavia to you guys.

It was okay. But I didn't think it was amazing. I didn't like the flies buzzing around the lamp. Normally I would have walked away, but because I was with a friend, I stayed put. The hamburger was tasty but not warm enough. The portion of fries was sufficient for 2 people. The food was otherwise cheap. I come from the Randstad myself, where prices are higher.

The drinks were fine, but the service took forever. I asked 4 different staff members to order something, but I was constantly told that someone was coming, when they never came.

We had reserved online and indicated under dietary requirements that there was one vegan in our party. We ordered bread with vegan croquettes and received it with tubs of real butter. You still just don't get it, do you? We asked for some margarine, but they didn't have any. "We do have vegan mayonnaise," they said, somewhat proudly. A fine spot by the water in the sunshine, but that is of course not really the Bataaf's merit.

Honestly, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. The service was not just slow—it felt completely careless, like the staff couldn’t be bothered. We were left sitting there without basic cutlery and had to repeatedly chase someone down just to get the essentials. The drinks were a joke. Everything tasted watered down, with no effort put into them at all. The mojito was especially bad—poorly made, unbalanced, and completely lacking the fresh, crisp taste you’d expect. It felt like it was thrown together with zero attention or skill. Between the disorganized service and the terrible quality of the drinks, the whole experience was frustrating from start to finish. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

There’s no drinks MENU available, so you can’t check the prices; and neither the available drinks. 🫪 The staff never provides a receipt (“kassa bon”), so you can’t check the bill — I was once overcharged because of that. The food is okay, but prices have gone up recently, and the same applies to the drinks. The cocktails are overpriced and contain very little alcohol — definitely not worth the money. I only visit for the waterfront view. The place itself looks nice, and I like both the indoor and outdoor design.

We had lunch here on the terrace. It is very beautifully situated by the water near the center of Wormer. The focaccia and pancake were tasty, and the young staff were friendly. However, there were long waiting times. It is a very large establishment with large groups coming to eat.

We had our wedding at Batavia (restaurant & bar) on 28.02., and from the very first day we knew this was the only place where we wanted to celebrate our special day. And we were absolutely right. From the beginning, Tessa made us feel safe, excited and understood. She is truly the most wonderful person — warm, professional, and fully dedicated. From our very first conversation she kept saying: “We will make the best day for you.” And she really did. She exceeded every single expectation we had. We started the evening with dinner in the Batavia restaurant, which was exclusively reserved for us for 3 hours. Everything was perfectly organized, and even a special corner was arranged for our magician and the children — our youngest guests absolutely loved it. The food was simply outstanding. The head chef of Batavia received a huge round of applause from all of our guests — something we have never seen at a wedding before. Every single dish was praised. After dinner, we moved to the Batavia bar, where the party continued with a DJ organized by Batavia. The atmosphere was incredible — our guests danced until the very end of the night. There was also plenty of food during the party, and everyone kept saying they went home with full stomachs. The cocktails were a huge highlight — absolutely amazing. Tessa also organized a photographer for us, who stayed with us the entire day. Saying that the photos are beautiful would be an understatement — they are truly breathtaking, and we are endlessly grateful for these memories. That same evening, on the dance floor, I told my husband that this was the realization of all my dreams — the best day of my life. And the fact that even a month later our guests are still talking about our wedding and saying it was the best wedding they have ever been to, says everything. A huge, heartfelt thank you to Batavia — and especially to you, dear Tessa. We truly feel like you became part of our family. Your energy, care and dedication are something very special and rare. Thank you to the head chef, to every single member of the Batavia team (even if we don’t know all your names, we remember every single one of you), to the amazing cocktail master, the fantastic DJ, and the wonderful photographer Jeffrey. Had lunch yesterday. The lady who served us wasn't in a very good mood, I think. I ordered a 'Zaans uur' (a local specialty) and mint tea; I ordered two with honey, but only received one, and had to point it out twice. Then we went to eat, and I ate my Carpaccio sandwich last, so it was only half-filled😤 I mentioned it later. She said, "Couldn't you have mentioned that earlier?" NO, I wasn't ready for that sandwich yet, so I just hadn't paid attention! My friend took a picture of it, so I showed it to her. Normally, you always get just enough! Really bad! No compensation or anything like that. I won't be going there again anytime soon!

We had reserved via the app, but upon arrival, it turned out no reservation had been made. They use a different reservation system. They very kindly found a table for two for us. Solved perfectly! We then enjoyed a delicious dinner and dessert. It is highly recommended to eat here. The staff is also super friendly.

Enjoyed a delicious high tea with great service

We arrived at Batavia 1894 with three people and were welcomed by a very friendly waitress. We had a spacious table by the window and were able to order our drinks right away. It was very quiet on a Monday evening, but later more guests arrived. It's a beautiful, industrial-style restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. The menu was extensive and offered delicious dishes at a good price. We started with a pomegranate soup with spring onion and cream, served with warm bread and butter, two salmon dishes, one schnitzel with grilled vegetables and truffle, and regular fries, and it was more than enough! Everything was delicious! There was no room for dessert, but there was room for a nice coffee (plenty of choices). Meanwhile, the two friendly waitresses came to ask if everything was to our liking, and we could wholeheartedly say yes! We will definitely eat here again!

The staff is friendly but pays little attention to what's happening around them. Ordering drinks or food takes unnecessarily long. The food is average quality, and I find the price too high. The location is certainly beautiful in the old warehouse, but I was sitting in a draft, and the building is freezing.

Very pleasant, but you do need to be patient. It was a Saturday night and very busy, but we had no complaints.

We booked a high wine with matching dishes here, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The wines were acidic and didn't complement the dishes at all. For example, we were served a sweet white wine with three lukewarm shrimp… A combination that was anything but pleasant. Furthermore, the wines were only served after the dishes were finished, which completely ruined the idea of ​​a high wine. The service was also seriously lacking. Food was spilled on us, and later even coffee, without apologies or a suitable solution. To make matters worse, we had to clean the table ourselves. Finally, it was very annoying that the glasses weren't cleared. We ended up leaving them with an unfortunate friend on the corner, who then couldn't enjoy his space anymore. This, too, was picked up far too late. If it were up to us, we would have preferred to give 0 stars. This was a very disappointing experience, and we will never return. Addition: the employee who spilled food on my friend blamed him because he was looking at his phone at the time…?

I've been meaning to write this review for a long time. Boxing Day, there was a live silverfish swimming in my drink, and the salad had a piece of plastic with an expiration date label on it. Something went wrong with the main course when it was passed on to the kitchen, so we had to wait a very long time for tough meat and soggy fries. A huge disappointment, so we'll never be back.

Celebrated my birthday, delicious lunch, with a group of 8. Fantastic friendly staff. Nothing was too much. Everything you wanted was given with a smile.

After an hour, our lunch still hadn't arrived; apparently, what we ordered had been taken to another table. That happens, but I don't quite understand why no one raised the alarm earlier and checked in. We had a young child with us who was ravenous. So we paid for our drinks and left without eating. I won't be coming back here anytime soon.

On Boxing Day, five of us came for dinner; we'd never been to this restaurant before. During our first round of drinks, a glass of iced tea contained a live silverfish... yuck! We quickly received our appetizers, which were delicious. However, there was a plastic expiration date tag in the arugula carpaccio. After that, it took a very long time for the main course to arrive. Later, the waitress told us that the food was on its way, but that a mistake had been made in ordering. We then sat for over an hour and a half. The fries were soggy, and the meat was very tough. In short, we won't be returning, especially for the price. The waitress, however, was very sweet and polite.

We had a wonderful Christmas Eve meal with you. It was our first time, and we'll definitely be back! It's great that dogs are welcome too! Thank you for the delicious food and excellent service.

The food was excellent, no culinary highlights, but it was fine! The mistake with the starter was resolved well. The monthly menu is a nice addition to the standard menu. What I did find odd was that we had to ask if we could order something after we'd made our choice. We weren't closely monitored in that regard. After a while, for example, when the first drink arrives, the waitstaff should ask.

It's a fantastic place, both inside and out. It was packed yesterday, but the service was still quick and friendly, and the food is, as always, delicious! A lunch that will definitely keep you going for the rest of the afternoon.

Strange place. The decor and location are nice, but be warned if you have allergies. When ordering, I told the waitress about my allergy and specifically asked if they could check with the kitchen to make sure I could eat it. It turned out that the appetizer I ordered (Tasting) contained my allergen in two of the small dishes. When I mentioned this to the waiter who was passing by, I asked if he could check with the kitchen to make sure I could actually eat the main course. It turned out that it wasn't safe for me to eat that either. So the waitress either didn't check or didn't take it seriously. Food allergies are no joke. It's embarrassing that they don't pay attention to this. No apology was offered for this either. Also, the service is incredibly slow. I had to order drinks from three different people before they finally showed up. The only positive thing was the fries.

For years, it's been one of my go-to spots for a quick beer and a bite to eat. Over the years, I've seen it gradually decline, especially in terms of service. The staff is always friendly but not overly attentive. I often have to wait longer than 20 minutes for my first drink, even when it's quiet. A place that once distinguished itself with excellent service is now an empty shell of its former self. But I remain hopeful for the future.

Yesterday afternoon, my girlfriend and I went here for coffee. It was busy, so it took a little longer than expected. Initially, we politely checked in with a staff member to ask if there was a table available, and luckily, one was. We initially had to wait about 10 minutes before our order was taken. The cake arrived 15 minutes later, and the coffee followed 5-10 minutes after that. It would have been more convenient if the coffee and cake had been served at the same time, so we wouldn't have to wait multiple times. We noticed that our water glasses still had lipstick on them. The waitress offered to bring new glasses. We then saw her walk in with and then out with a new tray, different drinks, but no new water glasses. We thought it would be more convenient to bring new water glasses at the same time. That would save us from having to walk back and forth, and we'd have satisfied guests. After waiting several times, we gave up hope. Finally, we asked for the bill, and everything went smoothly. Conclusion: Staff could work more efficiently by improving coordination between bar, service, and kitchen. This would significantly improve the experience. A better onboarding process for new staff would also help.

Seven people ate here on Saturday night. It's a lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food is excellent and tasty. Unfortunately, the service leaves us hanging. We finally asked at the bar if we could get something to drink. We had to keep getting the staff to bring us the menu or refill our glasses. It's a shame.

The three of us (three neighbors) had lunch. The service was fast and very friendly. The food was fantastic! Good value for money.

Drinks were out of date, cutlery was forgotten, food was delivered cold, and the wrong order was placed. Usually, I have a good experience here, but not tonight.

We had a wonderful meal at Batavia 1894, known as "de Bataaf" to the locals. The lighting was good and the atmosphere was cozy, despite the size of the space. The food was delicious, plentiful, and nicely heated. The starter was served quickly, and the timing of the main course was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful, regularly checking to see if everything was to your liking. I've had some disappointing experiences in the past, but after this dinner, I highly recommend it!
