Every city has a handful of places that locals quietly hope tourists never find. In Amsterdam, a city suspended between old-world beauty and modern excess, where canal water laps against centuries of memory while bicycles, hen parties, corporate retreats, and the occasionally terrified pedestrian compete for the cobblestones, Batoni Khinkali feels like a secret hiding in plain sight. Nothing about it performs for attention. The tables are simple and close enough for conversations to drift between them. By evening, every seat is taken. On the terrace, a cool breeze moves through glasses of Saperavi catching the last of the sunlight, while baskets of steaming khinkali arrive and disappear almost immediately. At the centre of it all is Levan Tskhadadze, musician, owner, head chef, host, and unmistakably the soul of the restaurant. He demonstrates how to eat the khinkali properly, holding the pleated knot between thumb and forefinger, turning it with a broad grin. Bite gently into the soft dough, then drink the rich, peppery broth gathered inside before reaching the meat. It is messy, intimate, and entirely absorbing. For a moment, the restaurant disappears and the dumpling becomes the whole world. The pkhali arrives jewel-bright and earthy. The Megruli khachapuri is molten, generous, and deeply comforting. Georgian wines are not presented as items on a list, but introduced through stories, regions, and memories. Tskhadadze understands that luxury has little to do with silverware or spectacle. It is remembering a guest, choosing the right wine, explaining the ritual behind a dish, and making every table feel as though it matters. Batoni does not chase trends. It offers something infinitely rarer: food that leaves a mark, hospitality that feels personal, and the sense that, for one evening, you have not merely found a restaurant. You have been admitted into someone’s world.

Delicious and fresh food, wonderful wine, hospitable and friendly hostesses—everything as it should be in a Georgian restaurant. A must-visit!

An overrated place. The food here will probably appeal to people who have never had authentic Georgian cuisine. The atmosphere inside was pleasant, but mainly because the restaurant was empty. The tables are placed very close to each other. The cheese khinkali were disappointing. The cheese was bland, and the dough was thick and rubbery. The mushroom khinkali were just okay. The duck was dry and lacked flavor. The sauce served with it was too sour and had a bitter aftertaste. The lobio and potatoes were nothing special. The only dish we really enjoyed was the khachapuri—it was generously filled with cheese and the cheese itself was good. The prices are high for the quality of food you receive. This was our second visit and once again we left disappointed. I don't think we'll be coming back or recommending this place to others.

We were happy that we were able to get in without a reservation- we got lucky! Food was great. We started with the khachapuri which was tasty. For mains we tried the house lemonade which was very tasty. The tarragon drink was bright green and from a bottle- interesting flavor. The chakapuli lamb stew was very delicious ( my mother who is very sensitive to spice suggests that there should be an indicator on the menu regarding the spiciness - my wife and I felt that the spice level was low) as was the sausage. Atmosphere was fine. The place was packed on a Friday evening.

Ingredients are Georgian so that is good, chef doesn’t know how to cook, it’s not Georgian food. Khachapuri obviously overgrown, strong yeast smell, not soft, like a stone. Spices are not used right way to be Georgian restaurant. Disappointment

Incredible restaurant! Everything was just perfect — from the atmosphere to every dish. Very tasty and authentic Georgian cuisine, large portions, fresh food and excellent presentation. I especially liked the khinkali and khachapuri — a real pleasure! The staff is friendly, attentive and always ready to help with the choice of dishes. Great surprise in this Georgian restaurant with flavors and textures we never tried before. The vegan dish was an insane combination of different preparations with fresh ingredients which I really enjoyed, very tasty and pretty big for one person. They also serve the wine in a traditional way. Only downside is that in my opinion the chairs are a bit unconfortable, probably cause the space is small and tables also.

Georgia has amazing kitchen and delicious dishes but this restaurant had Smallest khachapuri I have ever seen, for 16,90 euro. Me and my partner was laughing how small was the Khachapuri.

Overall good food but at the end we were offered “free” shots that we were asked to pay for them 16 euros. It was proposed as a gift after we had our bill closed. Later, when we were leaving they told us to pay. Obvious scam.

I love Georgian food and I love this place. The food is delicious and the owner is one charismatic guy. He’s always willing to answer any questions and he makes conversation really well. You can tell he’s passionate about his craft. Please come here whenever you have the chance.

The impression of the establishment is at a lower level, the dishes are not Georgian, the visit did not bring any impressions, I do not recommend it for visiting!

This restaurant claims to represent Georgian cuisine, yet what they serve feels like a complete misrepresentation of it. The dishes lacked authenticity, flavor, and care — it was as if the essence of Georgian cooking had been entirely lost. Traditional meals that should be rich, comforting, and full of character were bland and poorly executed. Even the basics, like khinkali and khachapuri, were far below any acceptable standard. It honestly felt like the kitchen had little understanding of what makes this cuisine special. Beyond that, the overall quality of the food was simply not good. Ingredients didn’t seem fresh, and the presentation was careless. It’s frustrating to see such a vibrant and respected culinary tradition being handled this way. In my opinion, this place doesn’t just fall short — it does a disservice to Georgian cuisine as a whole.

Very disappointing experience. We love Georgian cuisine, but this restaurant in Amsterdam was a big disappointment. The khinkali were bland and tasteless — no cilantro, no onion, no spices, and the meat filling had no real flavor. The portion was very small: only 3 pieces. The khachapuri with egg was also very small, more suitable for one person than for sharing. The menu was only in the local language, which is very strange for a city like Amsterdam with so many international tourists. The staff were not friendly, and the service felt cold and unwelcoming. We have had much better Georgian food in Munich, where the menu is available in several languages and the food is truly flavorful. We would not come back and cannot recommend this place. If you are visiting Amsterdam, unfortunately this restaurant may leave you very disappointed.

I visited Batoni Khinkali and had a really great evening. I specifically wanted to try Khachapuri, and it absolutely did not disappoint (I ended up loving it). I also had the Shkmeruli and a clay carafe of Georgian red wine (Kindzmarauli Winiveria), which was excellent wine to pair it with. A big plus for me is that the menu is very friendly for people with allergies (soy, nuts, peanuts, and celery), which made choosing dishes much easier and stress-free. The staff were friendly & helpful in guiding me through the menu, and overall just very welcoming. Overall, a top evening. Highly recommended!

The food and service was very good! It was a bit small but the staff is very friendly and willing to answer any questions or requests. The atmosphere is very intimate, more suited for a date rather than a big party. The menu captures the essence of Georgian culinary culture, and the servings are aimed at one dish per person rather than sharing dishes within a group. Could not recommend this enough, it was wonderful tasting Georgian food after having been to Georgia itself.

A good restaurant with delicious chachapuri and khinkali, but in my opinion overpriced. Main courses are €30 each without sides. Everything is very tasty, but you don't necessarily get full. It's certainly suitable for people who enjoy fine dining with Georgian fleurs-de-lis. For me, it wasn't good value for money.

Amazing place! As someone who really loves Georgian food I really enjoyed the food there! The atmosphere there is also really amazing, the workers were really nice and the chef was really sweet! For the ladies, the bathroom is also really pretty for the photos!

Really amazing food! It was definitely on the expensive side and the dishes are relatively small for the price, but nevertheless the food was of excellent quality and we would absolutely visit again!

Unfortunately, the experience was bad. After we ordered khachapuri, the waitress told us they expected guests to have a full dinner, which sounded very dismissive. Then the waitress informed the chef that we hadn't ordered the full menu. After ordering six khinkali and khachapuri, I didn't finish anything; it was too much for me. The waitress kept coming over and checking on us every five minutes. We felt like rude people and left the place. I won't give orders and won't be coming back.

The staff is very rude, they expect you to order the main course and if you just want khachapuri they think you are wasting their time haha, khachapuri is served in a small dish and the quality of the food is not very interesting. 👎👎👎

The food was delicious! We ordered khinkali, akhali, and khachapuri. There was no room for dessert. :) A huge thank you to all the staff, we will definitely be back!

I tried the khinkali here some time ago and I still think about them, easily some of the best I’ve ever had. The dough was perfect and the filling was incredibly juicy and full of flavor. I also love that it doesn’t feel like a touristy spot at all. It’s a wonderful little place near Vondelpark to experience authentic Georgian food. If you’re in Amsterdam, you definitely have to try it. I truly hope I get the chance to come back again someday.

The food was really good, the atmosphere was also nice including a really nice open kitchen. This made it quite pleasing. The only remark is that the service was not very engaging and present. I'd say that some interaction between costumer and waiter could be really good, as it would fit the good atmosphere and food.

I had an absolutely beautiful dinner here, the kind that reminds you how comforting, soulful, and quietly elegant Georgian food can be. We started with the Khinkali (portion of 3 pieces), and they arrived Cayman-level piping hot—steaming, plump, and perfect. Our server gave us the classic instructions: no utensils, hold the dumpling by the little knob, take a small bite, and sip out the broth. It was such a heartwarming, nourishing moment. The flavors aren’t flashy or overly complex, just deeply wholesome and nostalgic. With a sprinkle of black pepper it becomes one of those deceptively simple comfort dishes that make you pause and appreciate how satisfying good food can be. We also tried the Kupati, their home-made Georgian sausage served with thyme and pomegranates. The flavor was incredibly herbal and earthy, yet somehow still light. The tomato-based sauce it’s paired with is served chilled, and that contrast makes the whole dish pop. Bright, fresh, fragrant—one of the most unexpectedly delicious bites of the night. The Shkmeruli – Guinea Fowl (Parleghen) was another standout. Beautifully cooked, with crisp skin all the way around, not just on one side. The seasoning was subtle and restrained, relying more on the quality of the bird and the balance of the garlic and butter sauce than any heavy spices. It’s a unique dish—simple at first glance but deeply satisfying. For the main event, we had the Chakapuli, the slow-cooked lamb in wine, tarragon, coriander, spring onions, and Tkemali. It arrives in a little cast-iron pot, still bubbling. The broth is surprisingly light—white wine-based, bright, almost delicate—yet somehow rich at the same time. The lamb itself is fall-apart tender. Like everything else here, the flavor profile is simple but thoughtful. This is soul food, but elevated: rustic technique paired with precise cooking and quietly confident seasoning. One of the most comforting dishes I’ve had anywhere. Overall, this restaurant delivers a gorgeous balance of tradition and refinement. Nothing is overworked; every dish feels like a family classic made with care. A truly memorable dinner—nourishing, deeply cozy, and absolutely worth a visit if you want Georgian food that feels both authentic and elevated.

The variety of dishes is poor. You need to reserve the table before. The food was really good , not all of the waitress was nice, just one . Tables are really small so sit really close to another people and if you need to get out it's really difficult. The prices are not cheap at all . 1 beer is 10 euro and no basic soft drinks like cola or something like that . Also its not possible to split the bill if you come with the company .wasn't bad but I would not come back.

Overall I think it's not a very nice dinner experience. I hope they can improve the table seatings and the knives for meat. The couch is too low for the table which made the dinning a bit uncomfortable, but the chair on the other side is way taller, which made it a bit awkward to have normal table conversation due to the imbalance of the seating height. The pork belly could be amazing to pair with some veggie, but there's almost none. But the worst part is the cutlery, the knife is not the proper meat knife for cutting the pork belly, I almost need to force to cut it and still can't make it in the end…the taste is also not amazing enough for me to try even harder.

Disappointing Experience Despite High Expectations We recently visited Batoni Khinkali, Georgian restaurant that I had been looking forward to trying, but unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. Even though I had made a reservation in advance, we were seated at a table right next to the entrance — the least comfortable spot in the entire place. Throughout the meal, every new guest passing through the door stopped or brushed by our table, completely ruining any sense of atmosphere or privacy. I politely asked to be moved to another table, especially since the restaurant was almost empty at the time, but my request was still declined. This really set the tone for the evening. The food itself was underwhelming. The menu offered very limited choices — mostly variations of dough-based dishes that all tasted rather similar and lacked distinctive Georgian flavors. While I appreciate authentic cuisine, I expected a bit more variety and flavor depth. Overall, this visit didn’t live up to expectations. With better seating management and a more balanced menu, the restaurant could offer a much more enjoyable experience.

I found this restaurant quite pricey and with tiny portions. Which is not like in Georgia at all 😌For 2 people, we spent around €150 and left hungry, which is a bit unusual for a Georgian restaurant and having had starters and main dishes each. The interior feels simple, and the service could be improved. For example, after eating a starter, we were expected to leave our dirty cutlery on the table without receiving new ones for the main course—which felt unacceptable considering the price. Some dishes also felt a little light for the price; for instance, the duck comes without a garnish. Overall, the experience didn’t quite match the cost for me. I think with a few small adjustments in service and portioning, it could feel more in line with the price.

The menu is very small and seriously overpriced for what you get. Not all of the staff are friendly, and they don’t seem open to any kind of feedback. Overall, disappointing experience — I wouldn’t recommend it.

Khinkali were nice and the khachapuri was also good. Unfortunately the overall experience was disappointing. The air inside was super hot and oily, and the waiters kept ignoring us. When we got a second round of food they didn’t even change our plates. The wine was served warm and we weren’t offered a taste or any explanation. The last main dish was described as “for those who like tarragon,” but it turned out to be so unpleasant we couldn’t eat it. No one checked in at the end to see if we liked the food. Good flavors for some dishes, but the service and atmosphere need serious improvement.

Have been here three times now. I would say the appetizers, Khinkali and Khachapuri are comfortable and fantastic - combined with a delicious bottle of wine. The main courses are fine, but less impressive in comparison. Service can be a bit messy but I will keep on returning every year or so with a smile.

That is a subjective feedback: staff is good, restaurent is cute. food is average: - Phkali (a started) is a big big disappointment. That is relatively easy to prepare. The food looks tired. - Khinkali are good (I strongly recommend the classics ones - with pork/beef) the variation with cheese isn’t amazing. - khatchapuri is a big big big NO. Ok they are small, this is announced, but they are extremely small, there is more drought and not a lot of cheese. Those are a jewel from Georgian cuisine, I cannot validate what is proposed here. - wine are goods

I didn't really like the place. When asked if we could drink our own water, they said "no, you're not home." I think such a simple question could have been answered politely with "no." When ordering, we didn't order drinks (we didn't want to), they literally threw a bottle of ice water on the table. We ordered khinkali. Who would drink cold water with hot dough? (You can't do that.) Also, the prices don't match the quality of the food.

Too small portions for Caucasus kitchen, to high price, menu is very very small! We just had a wine and didn’t order food, unfortunately, The waiters were eyeing me very sternly, with judgmental looks. They poured the wine straight into the glass without offering a taste. When I asked if they spoke Russian, they said no — and did so with obvious displeasure, even though the whole former Soviet Union speaks it.”
