📍by the water 🪑nice decor, but a bit of a chilly atmosphere for my taste. 🛎️friendly but I find them slow. Especially because it was very quiet in the place. 💰it is more expensive than average but with 1 main course you can easily manage. 🍽️food was good. Personally a bit too salty for me. 🅿️you can pay at the door but there has to be a spot available. 🚽toilets are in need of renovation. 📋person not dissatisfied but due to the hype it still feels disappointing.

Quite disrespectful to treat people like this

Izakaya has a good wine list and the food is tasty, although it does remind you of what you get served at Momo, for example. The hostess is always friendly and ensures a warm welcome. The experience upon entering was slightly less impressive, as I had to wait outside with the doorman for just a little too long. Otherwise, the ambiance is fine, but not particularly special. All in all, a solid place, especially for a good glass of wine and tasty food.

Without booking they give me table , i suggests this restaurant for high quality shushi!!!

Food was fine but for the high price they ask I was expecting more. Changing 8€ for 700ml of water and 6€ for cola is outrageous.

We had a very nice dinner. We started wth truffle edamame, crispy rice with tuna tartare and seabass miso. They are small starters to share and were very delicious. Then the sushi and seafood toban as a main dish. The weather was perfect and we sat outside but the inside atmosphere was also very cool. And the staff are very friendly.

Beautiful atmosphere, good service, and genuinely good food. But the portion sizes are so small, and the pricing so excessive, that the whole experience ends up feeling deeply unbalanced. This is a restaurant where the prices seem intentionally detached from the portions. In the end, we left with the feeling that we had been robbed politely. Quality matters, but so does proportion, and here, that balance is completely lost. First time, last time.

Hi! I had a reservation at Izakaya today, and I am actually sitting there right now. I am not being served well by the staff; I ask for a plate and a plate is thrown onto my table. What kind of service is this? I have to ask 5 times before a staff member can speak to me to order something. Additionally, it was suddenly indicated that a minimum spend of €100 applies. As if we are in Dubai... lol. However, this was not mentioned anywhere when making the reservation. (only mentioned in small print via email) If you have this policy, it should be clearly communicated in advance, both at the time of reservation and before confirming a booking. This announcement also came across as quite aggressive to me, as if I were not willing to spend that amount. That made me feel uncomfortable. It is absolutely not about the money for me here. I just came from another place where I had an extensive meal, but about the way this is communicated and how guests are treated. I also want to point out that the chairs are very uncomfortable; This does not contribute to a pleasant experience, certainly not in combination with a mandatory minimum spend. Yeah, sorry, I don't know what kind of place this is with your chairs. My back is breaking and you expect a minimum spend of 100 euros? Apart from that, I only see street thugs here, so yeah, if you want to be associated with that, this is definitely the place to be! You will never see me again. Scumbag place.

With all due respect, I arrive there and the hostess starts talking to me as 'sweetheart' and 'darling', as if we've been playing marbles together. I come here quite often, but this takes the cake. Since when do we address guests as 'sweetheart' and 'darling'? This is deeply, deeply pathetic. I don't know what kind of clientele she is used to, but I found this extremely disrespectful. I won't even mention the atmosphere or the clientele that frequents the place. I'm done with it; this place has no class and no style.

Heard a lot about this restaurant so went for a visit to celebrate our birthday. Food was a unique interpretation of Japanese fusion. Combined many flavors and styles. We liked it, but not your typical Japanese restaurant, in our opinion. Wide wine selection. We ordered ‘Food to share’ but there were also sweet chef menus. Service was very good. Our waiter was very patient and explained the dishes very well. Answered all our questions and checked on us frequently. Always poured our water for us, we never had an empty glass. Long bar in center of restaurant looked cozy and fun. We sat in corner near entrance. We needed to pull the table out a bit, otherwise we felt a bit cramped in the corner. Highlight was at dessert they brought out a special chocolate mousse for the birthday girl which was special. All in all, a place to try for the experience but keep an open mind. A bit pricy.

The food at Izakaya is okay – nothing terrible, but nothing that blew me away either. it's just average Japanese-inspired dining. The real issue is the price. This place is ridiculously expensive for what you actually get. Portions are small (typical izakaya style, but at these rates it feels stingy), and the bill adds up fast, way too much for standard-quality food. Amsterdam has plenty of fantastic, authentic Japanese restaurants (and even great izakayas) that are far more affordable and deliver better value. You can find much tastier sushi, sashimi, or robata-style dishes elsewhere in the city without emptying your wallet. The waiters were nice and attentive, which was the only positive part of the experience. Service was friendly and professional. Overall, if you're looking for a special night out, go somewhere else. This feels like it's banking on the trendy location (next to the Sir Albert hotel) and fancy vibe rather than exceptional food. Not worth it at all, save your money for better spots around town. Would not return.

I've been a regular at izakaya for a few years now; I used to prefer the service. A host left who was actually a really nice person! She really brought the atmosphere and chatted with everyone. You really looked forward to seeing her. Unfortunately, she's gone, and the atmosphere has also deteriorated! These days, you're not allowed to wear leggings? Long-sleeved ones... Last time, it was the same (mind you, I've been going there for five years!): my table wasn't ready yet. I had to wait another fifteen minutes, which I didn't mind because I was early. So I waited patiently and was approached by a well-known artist. We exchanged greetings, and suddenly, within two minutes, the table was ready very quickly, and I could sit down. Yeah, I thought it was a bit odd. I don't want to say they favor people, but I did think it was special. But I want to give it another chance, because maybe the previous host just had a welcoming vibe and more people skills and experience. But if you're reading this, do something about it.

There is no comparison to Izakaya. The ambiance was superb, the service was phenomenal and the food was some of the best I have ever experienced - and I like to dine at high end restaurants. From the sushi with beluga caviar to the spicey tuna with sticky rice, I can't rave about it enough. Each dish was better than the last. They accommodated our large group, and everyone loved this dining experience. Thank you for a memorable evening.

Extremely small portions. They should easily triple the ammount of food for the price they are charging. If you are hungry go somewhere else.

I chose a menu for €115 per person. Without a menu, they apparently expect you to know all 15 courses by heart. They skip courses, don't know who's for what, disappear again, and stay away for a long time. There's a grumpy, confused Spanish woman working there who doesn't understand Dutch, and only speaks English if you speak very slowly and loudly (over the DJ's volume). Why would you hire such an amateur in a restaurant where you pay above average for food? Luckily, a Dutch-speaking guy really stepped it up a notch. This is ridiculous. The food, however, was delicious.

Ate the wagyu/ foieGras starter. It tasted completely off and three hours later I was ill all night. The next day I had to take a 14 hour flight to Guayaquil Ecuador and spent most of the flight in the toilet. The worst flight ever. Really a very bad experience.

We were here for New Year’s Eve with a group of four. We we’re welcomed so warm and twenty minutes earlier than the reservation. The location was amazing, staff and food as well. A luxurious, relaxed atmosphere on the edge of the Albert Cuyp Market. With delicious red wine and the Chef's Selection, the dinner was a success and very delicious. The DJ really adds to the wonderful atmosphere.

At Izakaya, the evening immediately felt right. The atmosphere is chic yet relaxed, exactly the mix I love. The sushi was incredibly fresh, and the tuna tartare was perfectly seasoned. I had a yuzu cocktail with it, which was wonderfully refreshing. The service was attentive without being pushy. It's the kind of place where you feel beautifully dressed and where everything is perfect.

A quiet establishment with a keen eye for detail. The sushi is beautifully rolled, the fish is fresh, and the seasoning is nothing too heavy; you can really taste the quality. The miso soup was smooth and warm, just as it should be. The service was polite, relaxed, and provided good information about the specials. The overall experience feels well-maintained, refined, and very consistent.

One of my favorite restaurants for 15 years

I was here last night and honestly had one of the strangest service experiences I’ve ever had in my life! We are staying at the Sir Albert hotel, and went down to the restaurant to have a bite and a drink. We were sat at their bar, which in my opinion is the best spot, (it’s super fun and vibrant!) I’m always very friendly with bartenders (I used to work in service myself), so I love chatting and being warm with people. When speaking with one of the bartenders, I misunderstood him, and thought he said he was from Çeşme. I said something along the lines of, “Oh wow, Mexicans (I’m Mexican) and Turkish people actually get along incredibly well!” He immediately corrected me by saying he was Greek, but then his attitude shifted dramatically. He made a gesture, walked away, and for the rest of the night he refused to serve us. He would give us looks, speak to his coworkers about it, and even after I had apologized profusely, sent other bartenders to serve us instead, as if I had said something offensive on purpose. It made the whole experience feel very uncomfortable and unnecessarily tense. It was an honest mistake, and nothing was said with bad intentions. Thankfully the other bartenders were fun, kind and professional, but the whole situation left a bad taste in the night. Shame cause the place, the music, food, atmosphere and staff is amazing!

Last night I went to Izakaya Amsterdam for the first time, last minute, and what a wonderful atmosphere, ambiance, and staff. It started when I called to see if I could still come for dinner on my own, and Kim said, "I'll organize it for you, so see you soon!" How wonderful! Then we sat at a lovely, quiet table opposite the kitchen. I loved the atmosphere and the wonderful music, and the food was heavenly🙌🏾🙏🏾. The food, the ambiance and the service was WoW!

The manager was so rude to us. The issues we faced are below: 1. She told us to sit by the bar to wait for our table. After sitting, she told us that the table is not available for tonight and we will be eating at the bar. 2. She told us that the kitchen closes at 11pm. and we asked her to come to take our orders at 10:55. She refused and requested us to order by 10:15 maximum. 3. After discussion, she got angry and asked if we made a reservation or we are coming walking in. As she was about to kick us out. And she went to make sure that we have a reservation or not. This was not professional at all and we were very disappointed as we considered this restaurant the best in town. With this type of attitude, we don't think it will continue to be as a top spot.

One of the few Japanese restaurants in Amsterdam open for dinner on Sunday afternoons. The menu leans into modern Japanese fusion, with generally well-executed dishes and good fish quality. Some fusion elements, like the seabream, felt less convincing. The sake list is solid, and the wine selection is broader than expected. Service was smooth. Pricing is on the higher side relative to portion and complexity. Conclusion: Stylish and competent, though not every dish lands. Worth visiting if you’re after a sleek izakaya-inspired experience with a good drinks list.

A Japanese restaurant located on the ground floor of a hotel with a street view. The prices are high and the portions served are small. The food is considered delicious for lovers of Asian cuisine, such as sushi and steamed fish. For me, it was less than ordinary.

We had lunch here yesterday, just the two of us. We opted for the extensive menu and it was delicious. We sat at a table by the window, very close to the sidewalk. Kids walking by could peek in from a short distance. The restrooms are downstairs and are clean. However, the place feels a bit worn. For a place with this status and allure, it could be a bit better. Nevertheless, we had a delicious lunch and will definitely be back. We also received excellent service from Ralf, the store manager.

I visited as my freind was djing , but they do food and it was packed. but from 11am the bar opens for public great place and good service all round.

Food was quite good, nice Japanese dishes. The only thing that was lacking was the service. Our waitress was checking up on us just fine until we finished our food and wanted to eat dessert. 20 minutes no one came even though different waiters walked by us avoiding eye contact. Eventually we managed to get ahold of one and asked for the bill. Unfortunate because the desserts sounded quite good but when service isn’t up to par you lose money.

My wife and I always stop by here whenever we visit Amsterdam. Everything on the menu is delicious, even the simple edamame with coarse salt. The staff are all friendly, and we enjoy sitting at the bar and asking for recommendations. It's a great place to have a meal or just stop by for a quick bite afterward. I highly recommend it to Koreans, too.

I visited Amsterdam in late June this year and the only reason I didn't write this review sooner is because I had forgotten the name of this forgettable joke of an establishment. Went there with my best friend and the host was ready to seat us (completely empty inside) but the manager took her aside to talk. The host returned to us to deny entry because we "didn't meet the dress code". Mind you we both were wearing button down shirts tucked in our dress pants wearing dress shoes. Don't waste your time here this place doesn't know how to cater to willing customers. We were prepared to spend well over €300 for sushi and drinks but apparently they're adverse to money. Absolute joke in an absolute joke of a location and also we only stopped in because we were passing by. 1 last thing... we ended up spending our money at one of your competitors and we got free drinks for lambasting you, quite hilarious 😂

Expensive, slowly, normal food, doesn’t met the expectations. The omakase menu is too expensive for the quantity of food they give, better to order a la carte. The time between the dishes are absolutely too long and we leave the restaurant still hungry. Exactly at 11.00 we ask to add some rolls because of the time and small amount of food we had but they say that the kitchen was closed at 11 (without they told us before and when they said was still 11). The service is really bad and the food is normal, not the best place to eat for sure in amsterdam

You are not very quick about the prices of things not listed on the menu, it is unacceptable that a place of this type does not have an updated menu with all the new items, and that the staff does not inform you about off-menu items. The manager is grumpy and not very attentive to the mistakes of the staff, who are totally guilty of inexperience

Low quality sushi for the high price, misunderstanding with the bill, which is ok….but the way the managed the problem so not professional and rude, was not ok!

Really great food in a very modern and trendy restaurant. If you like exceptional Asian food and want to treat yourself to something special, this is the place for you.

Overall good experience and very professional staff. Sashimi was very fresh. Crispy rice and avocado was savory and crunchy. Dumplings were ok. For dessert, the warm madeleines were a good combo with the mochi ice cream.

Used to be a nice place to meet new people and eat good food, but the quality has now plummeted and you only encounter scum. If you are interested in detection, watch it and like the game of spot the differences. This is probably a nice tent for you.

We ordered shrimp tempura & avocado roll and beef toban and were not specialabout them. The corn tempura, the spinach salad with shrimps, and beef tataki with onion ponzu & garlic chips rindfleisch tataki mit zwiebel ponzu & knoblauch chips were delicious.

Last Saturday we had dinner there with two other people, the next day we all got food poisoning. With a lot of stomach pain. Contacted by email and still no response. Due to poor communication and the consequence of food poisoning, 1 star.
