Even though I don't live anywhere near Amsterdam, I happily keep making the trip to eat here. The Shrimp Toast is fantastic, the Chicken Schnitzel is delicious, but for me, the absolute star of the menu is the cheesecake. Truly one of the best I have ever eaten. The flavors are perfectly balanced, and you can taste that everything is prepared with care. Additionally, the staff is always incredibly friendly and hospitable, making you feel welcome immediately. I will gladly return; until next time!

Great food and atmosphere, feels like a hidden gem. Service can be way better, waiting 20 min to order drinks and everything arriving at different times for a group of 6 is not ideal. Portions can be bigger too, but the quality and taste are amazing!

Without a doubt, one of the best restaurants I have been to. The food was out of this world, the staff was super sweet and you have to try their passion fruit margarita.

A little gem in Southwest Amsterdam. The atmosphere, with cheerful and enthusiastic service, is truly superb. A good selection of dishes that are more than flavorful and surprising, coupled with a surprising wine list.

We came for lunch on a Sunday and walked in without reservation. The staff were super welcoming. As I was ordering my burger, I asked, “Can I have the burger without the burrata cheese because I'm lactose intolerant?” He said that wasn't possible. I asked if the cheese was baked into the food, and they said no, but the chef doesn't allow modifications. I explained I'm lactose intolerant and asked what they would recommend, because I really wanted the burger. He said it wasn't possible to remove the cheese. (Sounds like the chef is rather intolerant) I asked what other dishes they recommended that I could safely eat, he recommended the cod and gnocchi. When the cod arrived I realised it was served in a butter sauce, so although he recommended it to me as a lactose-intolerant option, it contained dairy. Allergies and intolerances are not a choice, giving bad service and inflexible chefs are a choice. I would address that.

Restaurants like these need to close.

Amazingggg food! Incredibly delicious. Sadly they were out of all seafood that night and we also were told we’d get a birthday treat for our friend but it never came.

Waiting 1 hour for the main dish at a half empty restaurant was honestly disappointing (we weren’t informed/warned about the waiting time). What disappointed us even more was how our feedback was handled when we mentioned the long wait. Amazing interior, but I wish more restaurants understood that it’s not just about making a place look pretty and charging more, the service should match too. Also not to forget: they charge for tap water. Wouldn’t return.

Decoration is 5-star and we really wanted to love this place. However, waiting for an hour for a schnitzel during lunchtime in a near-empty restaurant and staff saying that it is a “slight wait” is disrespectful of our time. It is a shame that the hospitality doesn’t live up to the aesthetics

Nice and tasty original dishes, top wine, friendly service and cool interior

Bennies is somewhat off the beaten track and located in what looks like a former garage or other work place. Its quite spacious and when we visited not fully booked, which we liked. The food was quite tasty, no fine dining, but definitely not the standard menu, rather a modern selection of popular mainstream choices. The oef mayonnaise for example was very nice but this has become an Amsterdam standard in recent years, so perhaps not as adventerous as some would like. Wines were affordable and it was possible to order a wine that was listed per bottle, by the glass, which I think more restaurants should do. Two of our dishes were very heavily seasoned, a bit less salt would have improved the balance. Staff was wonderful and really helped lift the experience.

Besides the poor service, the food was very tasty. Waited two hours for the food, only to be told that it had never been ordered. They charge a lot for water. It is also not mentioned beforehand. Almost €50 for water… However, the waitress's attitude was also bad. The waitress did not mention that certain dishes were unavailable. We will not be visiting here again. I would not recommend it either.

We went to Bennies last night for dinner and what a spectacular little place. They have an extensive wine list with well curated wines from around the world. The food was delicious with standouts being the scallop ceviche, the jalapeno bratwurst and the razor clams. My fiance had a skatewing special with capers in a lemon butter sauce that was amazing. Great place to go.

Celebrated a friend’s birthday here with a group of 7, and overall it was quite a disappointing evening. The food was good, so that was a plus, but the service really let it down. We get that larger groups can be a bit more effort, but the waiter made it pretty obvious she wasn’t happy serving us. The main issue was the wait. We were there for around four hours and only had three snacks and a main each. After already waiting about three hours, we were told there’d been a mistake and the kitchen had only just started our order… this was after we’d asked 30 minutes earlier how long it would take. Other groups who arrived hours after us got their food before us. We each got a free drink (no cocktails), which was something, but didn’t really make up for the situation. Then on top of that, we were charged €48 for “filtered” still and sparkling water, which we assumed was just tap water since it came in unbranded refillable bottles. They did remove it after we said something, but seemed pretty reluctant and unhappy with the discussion. All in all, good food, but the service and overall handling really took away from the experience. Sadly wont be returning

I visit Bennies regularly and the staff is always so cheerful, good, and friendly!! Normally I come for the delicious chicken schnitzel and the prawn toastie, but last Sunday there was a special Easter menu with asparagus and this was truly fantastic.... €48 for 4 courses... Oof, mayonnaise, ajo blanco, asparagus, cheesecake... My mother had added the rib eye. The portions were generous and the wine pairing was on point! We loved it :) See you soon, Bennies!

I had such a delicious and pleasant meal here over a year ago, but now the Easter menu was meager and poor. It really wasn't worth the price of €70 pp. I don't have a good feeling about this. Appalling quality of food at every level because I couldn't choose anything either. It was the Easter menu on Easter Sunday: the choice was the Easter menu possibly with an addition: there was no choice.... very disappointing... disappointing... disappointing Boring and not super tasty and no choice

Went for a business dinner with 7 people and it was an excellent meal we will be talking about for a while. Highly recommend the Schnitzel and the cheese desert was amazing. Very reasonable considering how good it was. Will be back!

Lovely atmosphere, great service and lovely food selection!

Came here for a birthday with a group of 12 and had a brilliant night. We went for the 5-course menu with wine pairing, and it really delivered — every course came with a spread of dishes to share between the table, which made the whole thing feel social rather than just a standard sit-down dinner with your own plate. The food was genuinely delicious, the vibe was spot on, and the music hit the right note too. For a large group, it all came together smoothly. If I’m being picky, the booking experience could be a bit better— but that’s a small gripe in the grand scheme of a great evening. Would definitely go back. Thanks Bennie’s!

Another person in the group and I felt very nauseous the night after eating the gnocchi. We were the only ones who ate it, and unfortunately, also the only ones with any symptoms. It couldn't have been anything else, and we both felt fine the next day. So it was definitely due to the food. We reported this on Instagram, but it wasn't taken seriously, and nothing was done about it.

We came as a group of 4 and all the food we ate was great except for the Schnitzel. We were so excited to try it but it was too heavy. The first couple of bites are great but Schnitzel as a dish on its own is already heavy on due to being fried. When you pair it with brie and jamon which are heavy and fatty on their own, it just becomes too much. All of us were struggling to finish. I'm writing this more as an advice than a complaint. It would be so much better paired with less heavy, more fresh toppings.

Went to Bennie’s because I had a good experience a while ago and really like the interior and atmosphere. Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing. The wine was good, but the tuna carpaccio (€19) lacked depth of flavour and salt and didn’t feel worth the price. The main issue was the 500g ribeye (€70). I asked for medium and was told the kitchen only serves it their way. It arrived blue rare in the middle pieces. For €70, I atleast expect to choose how my steak is cooked. We had to leave several pieces because it was simply too raw We were also brought a second 1L bottle of water without asking, while we hadn’t even half way finished the first and was charged for both. When I addressed it, I was told “oh yea maybe we should’ve mentioned it, but it’s per person all night, but it’s only like 4 euros per bottle, that’s okay right” In total around €145 for an experience that didn’t match the price. Beautiful setting, but I won’t be returning.

I've been following Benthe Liem for a while, and I often came across her husband's restaurant. It had been on my list to visit for a while. Beautifully decorated, delicious food, and Arthur, the waiter, was such a sweet guy. We had a fantastic afternoon. I especially loved the cheesecake. But actually, everything was delicious.

Great food, great wine selections, friendly staff and cool atmosphere

Very disappointing experience. The portions were far too small for the price we paid. We left the restaurant still hungry, which is not acceptable considering the bill. The quality was okay, but definitely not enough to justify such tiny servings. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you have a normal appetite or expect good value for money.

Excellent. Immediately loved the space, really light and they have an open kitchen. Great service, food and drinks well timed. Can’t wait to go back for dinner. The steak tartare, burrata were brilliant, flavours and textures on point. Cheesecake was an absolute knock out, sweet, tart and hint of salt, the olive oil was a surprising very welcome twist 🤩

A brilliant little gem tucked away in an unassuming corner on an industrial estate. The chef and kitchen staff care about what they prepare; service is friendly and engaging. We had the steak tartare, cabbage, chicken and fries. All dishes were well executed. We will be back.

My partner and I had a dinner reservation last Friday here and were extremely disappointed with our experience. We ordered the shrimp toast, tuna carpaccio, and some drinks. Before placing our order, we made a point to ask about nut content because my partner has a severe nut allergy. The staff assured us that none of the items we ordered contained nuts. Shortly after eating, my partner began having an allergic reaction. We immediately asked the staff again whether the shrimp toast contained any nuts, and once again we were told it did not. We had to leave the restaurant right away so he could receive medical attention. I emailed the restaurant afterward to share what happened, but never received a response. It’s clear that the restaurant did not take proper food preparation procedures seriously. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Good vibe,great food and nice service (the fries is surprisingly amazing!). We like all the dishes. The only downside is the toilet has pretty strong smell of disinfectant.

We had a great night at Bennie’s. The food was good, a highlight being the gem salad! We cannot fault the friendliness of the staff, however, we found that the wait times were sometimes long. For example, our second side salad sat on the pass for at least 35 minutes, and was delivered after we had finished all of our food. However, other than that, we loved the atmosphere and the general vibe! :)

I came here for a birthday celebration, and it was such a great experience! I asked in advance if they could use a specific ingredient for a cocktail, and they made a special drink just for me — super flexible and friendly staff! The vibe is hip, stylish, and industrial — really cool atmosphere. It’s kind of out of nowhere, but totally worth the trip. The downside were that some dishes were already out of stock pretty early and the food took a while to come out. But overall, highly recommended!

This places gets buzz, but I was disappointed. The pasta main was not good - very bland. The service was ok - we felt like we were inconveniencing the staff in most of our interactions. Overall the value of quality for price was disappointing.

In my opinion, it was far too expensive for what you get. I had a plate of pasta with just a little tomato sauce and a mountain of Parmesan cheese on it—a very mediocre home cook could have made the same. Nothing extra, not a speck of green in sight. My table companions had a €30 fish dish, and I was shocked by the tiny plate they received for that price—absolutely outrageous. No tap water, only mandatory bottled water, and I got a can of beer worth €7. If you want to charge those prices, you really have to deliver quality. The service was friendly and efficient, but you won't see me back here anytime soon.

The staff were friendly and attentive. We were told they had a new menu that day, but the mussels on it weren't available. That was a real shame, as several of us had been looking forward to them. We ordered olives and bread beforehand, which came with some butter. We asked for olive oil with the bread, but it wasn't available. Personally, I found the olives had a very unpleasant and strange aftertaste. Was there something in the oil? The bread was tasty, but very little and way too expensive. The main courses arrived. I had vegetarian yellow beetroot, a minimal portion, and nothing special in terms of flavor. The fries looked good but also had a very unpleasant aftertaste! What are they fried in? Animal fat or oil? I thought it was so disgusting! We were looking forward to desserts; we had already seen chocolate mousse and cheesecake on the menu. Unfortunately... that wasn't there either, so you have four desserts on the menu, two of which you can't order :( When you have a new menu, you make sure everything is available. There was tiramisu, though, and it was delicious! Luckily, it was a good ending. But Bennies is definitely not something we'll be repeating.

Stylish spot with great vibes - Amsterdam in a nutshell! We shared a spread of dishes: the schnitzel with orange and caper butter was crisp and flavorful, the mussels were fresh with a nice herb kick, and the pastas came generously topped with parmesan. The steak was tender and cooked just right. The industrial chic design and the vibes are 💯 Overall recommend!!

A quite disappointing experience. €6 for a single slice of bread felt excessive, and the shrimp toast unfortunately made us feel sick, we hope the kitchen looks into that. The service came off as disengaged and unapproachable, even with simple requests like a napkin or asking to try some wines. As fellow Horeca professionals, we understand how tough it is to work long hours and keep the energy high, but the atmosphere made us feel more like a burden than guests.

A very charming place with unfortunately terrible food. Sadly, the dinner was a complete disappointment. We ordered a variety of starters and main courses for four people, but everything was overly greasy, oily, overcooked or even burnt . Later that night, both my friend and I felt unwell after having the shrimp toasts. The starter "bread with butter" came out as a single chunk of bread for everyone to share… The waiter was friendly, but accidentally spilled wine on the table and casually brushed it onto the floor with his hand… It was my friend’s birthday, but there was no acknowledgment or kind gesture — not even a simple “happy birthday,” which was a bit disappointing. It’s a shame that such a beautiful venue left us with such an unpleasant experience. I truly hope the kitchen improves, because the place itself has great potential.

Op een niet voor de hand liggende plek in Amsterdam West - industrieterrein - huist Bennies in wat een soort loods was. Met minimale middelen van hoge kwaliteit en design hebben ze daar iets bijzonders van gemaakt. En het eten? ja, je kunt uit een menu kiezen, maar laat de koks liever de vrije hand. Je zult niet teleurgesteld worden: gewaagde combinaties maar nét niet te gek gemaakt van prachtige producten. Mooie wijnen, goede bediening. Alles is met zorg omgeven Schappelijke prijzen. Mensen, ga het avontuur aan, durf ik te adviseren. Ruime parkeermogelijkheden, als het mee zit vóór de deur.

The dishes were different and tasty, but I think it's overpriced and you can get similar style cuisine for a better price in Amsterdam. €6 for one single piece of bread is way too much.

Fun-dining avant la lettre. Saskia and Pablo gave us the feeling they had all the time in the world despite the business. Big flavours. Recommend for a casual dining experience which won't disappoint with that air that everything is possible!

Really disappointing, a meager menu, which when they gave us they forgot to tell us that not everything was available, and that the wine list was being redone... ridiculous portions at absurd prices, a single slice of bread for €6 absurd, we left hungry, we will never return, place launched by paying influencers, best wishes...

A bit too expensive for me... 2 asparagus on a bed of potato cream for 24 euros. Maybe I should have taken the menu... Quality was fine, as was the service.

The atmosphere is very alternative, lots of well-dressed people. I was very well received in the restaurant, always they were very attentive and cordial. You have the option of ordering 3 or 4 menus or individual dishes. We opted for the individual dishes and it worked out very well for two people. We ordered a red shrimp tartare (just the right amount!), a salad (I liked the presentation and loved the taste) and the pork (it was delicious!). To drink, I don't recommend the drinks as they are already prepared, my boyfriend ordered a paloma; I had a Kumbucha beer, for those who like sour, it's perfect, I loved that beer.

What a great evening at Bennies in Amsterdam! We had dinner here with a group of friends and everything was taken care of down to the last detail. The service was incredibly friendly, attentive and made us feel really welcome. The wines were delicious. And then the food: surprising, tasty and very well prepared. Every dish had something special, the grilled white asparagus was fantastic! An absolute must - we will definitely be back!

Bennies is one of the most wonderful places to discover in Amsterdam. They haven't been open for long but wow this place. It has good vibes, good wines and really tasty food. My husband was extremely surprised of finding this gem! especially because this area seems a bit out of the blue to eat in AMS. I loved the burrata with squid and the shrimp with Tahini. Also the asparragus. Service was good and the place and atmosphere wonderful. Will come back for more.

Excellent 3 course meal. Good and sufficient service. Coffee was strangely not tasty. Maybe a different bean which made the coffee taste a bit sour. The acoustics were far from optimal. Now the restaurant was full. This produced so much noise that it was difficult to have a conversation among each other. Too bad because I would come back for the food

Great night out with friends. The new menu is delish, there is a new chef and you can really tell! Simple but surprising flavours and elaborations, very well executed. A great selection of wines. A nice surprise was Jamon from Spain: un 10. Reasonable prices and friendly staff.

A truly memorable dinner experience in Amsterdam. I went with two friends for a night out and we were all blown away. With chef Arvid Schmidt now in the kitchen, the menu feels fresh, inventive, and full of personality. Every dish we tried was full of flavor and beautifully presented—the quality of the food is outstanding. Highlights for us were the burrata with squid and pumpkin seeds, the kimchi spring rolls, the gamba roja tartare, the carne Apache, the strawberry rhubarb yogurt ice cream, and the white asparagus. The wine selection is also excellent and thoughtfully paired. The atmosphere strikes a great balance between vibrant and relaxed, and the staff were warm, helpful, and attentive. Whether you’re celebrating something special or just in the mood for drinks and bites, this place is a true gem. Highly recommended! Bonus: it has a great terrace for sunny afternoons and nights.

Tuvimos una velada increíble en este restaurante — fácilmente una de las mejores comidas que he tenido en Amsterdam. Fui con dos amigos, y todos estábamos seriamente impresionados. Con el chef Arvid Schmidt ahora en la cocina, el menú es creativo, refinado y lleno de toques atrevidos y personales. Todos los platos estaban bellamente presentados y llenos de sabor, claramente hechos con mucho cuidado e ingredientes de primera calidad. Algunos de nuestros favoritos incluyeron la burrata con semillas de calamar y calabaza, rollos de primavera de kimchi, sarro de gamba roja, carne Apache, espárragos blancos y el helado de yogur de fresa y ruibarbo. La carta de vinos es excelente, con maridajes que realmente elevan los platos. El ambiente es vibrante pero relajado, y el servicio era perfecto — amable, atento y bien informado. Es un lugar perfecto tanto si estás celebrando algo especial como si simplemente disfrutas de una velada casual de buena comida y vino. Bono: tienen una terraza preciosa que es perfecta para tardes soleadas o cálidas noches de verano. Muy recomendable!

Food ans drinks were overpriced!Bread and water were charged for each person 3.50, ridiculus! The lamp was undercoocked, the salad on the side was random tastless leaves. The place and the vibe was great but not enough.

The food is great although most dishes are average and overpriced. Desserts stand out the most, especially the cheesecake. The place has a cool vibe and decor but most of the chairs and tables are very uncomfortable. The service was really the biggest disappointment for us. Extremely slow and inconsistent and not attentive at all. For this price, more was expected. We also were celebrating a 30th birthday but this was ignored and we ended up also getting bar stools seats at the entrance which was very sad.. I have been twice (for brunch and dinner) and won’t be returning or recommending after the two experiences that left us feeling very disappointed. Such a shame!

When Dutch restaurant want to act like French bistronomique restaurant - don’t waste your money there. Poor service, long waiting time, overpriced. I recommend the staff to have an internship in Paris

Bennies was highly recommended by local food guides, so we arrived with genuine enthusiasm. The place looked inviting with a pleasant atmosphere. We were greeted by a waiter who seemed to be having a quieter day than our excited selves. It took about 10 minutes to receive the drinks menu, which came with Dutch communication despite our English introduction. Twenty minutes later, our server returned for drink orders – still in Dutch. We requested a food menu, which arrived after another 20-minute wait. While the tables that came after us were already served with the snacks. A full 50 minutes after arrival, we finally placed our food order. The mussels had an unusual flavor profile that wasn't quite to our taste, and the tartar carried a slight bitterness. The fries and bread were perfectly fine though, and the cheesecake was delicious. At almost 20 euros for a modest portion of mussels, the value didn't quite align with our expectations. The open kitchen concept, while trendy, creates an interesting mix of cooking aromas and cleaning products that might benefit from improved ventilation. The place clearly has potential and some stellar offerings like that cheesecake, but our particular visit had a few timing and communication hiccups.

I really can’t say enough nice things about Bennies. I celebrated my birthday there and everything was exceptional. From the communication with the staff, the venue itself, the wine, the food and impeccable vibes. I can’t recommend Bennies enough for value, service and really incredible food. Loved it. Nice place for a nice evening of good food. Restaurants are springing up like mushrooms in the middle of an industrial estate. I already counted 3 on the list with Bennies. The exterior looks unattractive due to 1960s construction, but that sadness is also part of the experience. Inside it is light and modern. Parking is problem-free, but even here you still have to pay more than 5 euros per hour. Fortunately I paid until 7 am so I didn't have to worry about that for long. The food is certainly very tasty. Beautifully presented with surprising flavor combinations. It is all very pricey. Without ordering too lavishly, we paid over 70 euros per person. That's one of the reasons why I don't eat out that often anymore. It has become far too expensive. Amsterdam in particular.
