Nice experience for a work team meeting

We were a group of five who ordered the 4-course menu at Blue Pepper Restaurant, and we were very pleased with the entire experience. The food was excellent, with creative and well-balanced twists that made each dish interesting enhancing the authentic flavors. We were also pleasantly surprised by how beautifully the dishes were presented — elegant and inviting on the plate. The wine pairing matched well, and the service was both professional and friendly. We felt well taken care of throughout the evening. A restaurant we can highly recommend — and one we’ll definitely return to on our next visit to Amsterdam.

I recently organised a dinner cruise with Blue Pepper for 45 colleagues and business partners. Avijit was very efficient from my initial email contact right to the dinner event. All my questions were answered promptly ensuring the event ran very smoothly and the service on board friendly and impeccable.

I have been here before. I Always make it a priority when I’m in Amsterdam. It never disappoints. Small bistro serving Se Asian food, principally Indonesian, some Balinese and Sumatran influences. Staff and owner are gracious and friendly. They always make me feel like I’m a valued guest. The food can be spicy (which I like) but I’ve heard other tables ask for milder versions and they were happy to accommodate. They have 3 different rijstafels , all fish, vegetarian and a mixed meat. They do good wine pairings at a very reasonable addition. They serve individual dishes as well, many very beguiling and mouthwatering.

Fantastic canal cruise organised by Avijit and his team. I would highly recommend Blue Pepper Restaurant. We used them for a client dinner and received great feedback from everyone! A thoroughly enjoyable evening. The crew onboard were very professional and personable. Would recommend.

Best Indonesian food I’ve ever had, served by extremely nice staff, in an elegant and comfortable atmosphere. Everything was cooked perfectly, the spices well balanced to make delicious dishes, both vegan/vegetarian and with meat. The wines were also very good, and don’t miss out on the dessert! We had a wonderful evening.

We had a fantastic experience at Blue Pepper restaurant during our recent trip to Amsterdam. The team very kindly accommodated our dietary preferences. My husband and I came here on a friend's recommendation and loved it! We got the "Sultan and I" rijsttafel, and it was fantastic. 4 courses to try- all small to medium portions. We left very full but so happy. Great meal! The restaurant staff were also all lovely and so kind and helpful. They explained each dish as it came out. Can't wait to return on our next trip!

Excellent smaller restaurant with outstanding service. Marvelous food, great wine and my guests with specials wishes were served to their wishes; spicy, gluten, vegetarian, shell fish. We booked for 12 person and made a small prepayment to secure the table.

This place is incredible. The food was phenomenal, I had the vegetarian rijsttafel. I really appreciated that they squeezed me in last minute on a Saturday night and will do a rijsttafel for a solo diner. The service was great. If I ever make it back to Amsterdam, I'll come back here.

Friendly and very helpful waiters. The atmosphere is quiet, with a single, small room, very peaceful and elegant. We had an appetizer and two main courses, water, and a beer (total 84 for two). Very tasty food, cooked slowly. Highly recommended if you're looking for an elegant and sophisticated Indonesian cuisine experience.

If you are ever in Amsterdam, you must experience Indonesian cuisine at the Blue Pepper restaurant. Chef Avijit and the staff at Blue Pepper provided an excellent dining experience for my husband’s 60th birthday celebration in Amsterdam. Initially, since we were traveling with a group from New York on our first trip to Amsterdam, we did not know exactly how to organize the birthday dinner on board Blue Pepper’s dinner cruise. However, from the start of our email communications, I found Chef Avijit to be immensely helpful and responsive to my questions and concerns. He offered several menu options and provided additional details and suggestions that gave me great comfort in selecting Blue Pepper for our very special occasion. He even arranged for a celebratory birthday cake. When we arrived at the boat, we were greeted by the chef and his delightful staff who provided us with glasses of champagne and added reassurance that we would be well taken care of. It is truly an understatement to say that the dining experience was beyond excellent! Each course of the meal was superb and we enjoyed eating some cuisine that we had never previously tried. Every course was perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious! Each member of our group could not stop talking about the food and the service, which were impeccable. Because of our extremely positive dining experience, I would highly recommend the Blue Pepper.

We organized our company dinner here at restaurant Blue pepper. The dinner cruise was absolutely amazing. Avijit was always polite and made sure to take into account all our wishes. I arrange architectural and cultural tours for members of a well-known non-profit organization, and our dinner and cruise with Blue Pepper was outstanding from start to finish. It was the perfect introduction to Amsterdam that we had desired for our first evening. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and surprising; the wine selection was well-balanced and suited to each course, and for dessert we had the most beautiful almond and white chocolate cake I have ever tasted. But the warm and sincere service left the biggest impression on us. We felt welcomed and cherished the entire time. Our guests had a wonderful time. Thank you so much! We will be back every time we revisit your wonderful city! TIP: Make sure you make a reservation well in advance to secure the best boat. We had a beautiful large wooden boat that turned heads along the way.

We went here on a friend’s recommendation, and it was absolutely smashing! Definitely the best meal we had in Amsterdam, and that’s actually very high praise! Meant to be Indonesian cuisine, it’s more like an eclectic mix of Asian cuisines that is perfectly executed and presented. We chose the pre-set menu which was perfect for 2 people. The duck, minced lamb, and the sorbet dessert were simply outstanding! Service was friendly and top notch. We met five of our friends who were ending a cruise in Amsterdam. None of us had experienced Rijsttafel. We were guided through a delicious exploration of flavors and textures, both chefs menus and a la carte orders. Food was great as was the service, friendly and informative, and the setting. We have another visit to Amsterdam planned for autumn and will return.

Truly, an upscale version of a Rijsttafel with many special treats. Not the usual tourist fare. Beautiful art inside. I was able to have the Riijstaffel while my wife ate off the à la carte menu. Wine pairing was excellent. And overall, the price was quite modest for this level of dining. Very cordial hosts. Would definitely return.

It was a spectacular experience from the time we entered till it was the time for us to leave. The colorful interior, flavorful items and mindful service are what made the visit unforgettable. I had the Tiger rijsttafel, while my wife chose the Beautiful People, each paired with wine. The food was as tasty as they were visually attractive - a true feast for multiple senses. The electric flower bud was a great surprise! The reservation and service were all excellent. We expect to be back here next time we are in Amsterdam.

Don’t know about the Food, because they forgot about our reservation. I made a reservation 4 month prior to our dinner. They confirmed it. Two weeks before our dinner, I confirmed the reservation. When arriving at the restaurant, they told us, the restaurant was closed for a private event. They also told us, they had no knowledge of our reservation. This is unacceptable for the self described best Indonesian restaurant in Amsterdam.

I spent a long time researching the best Indonesian restaurant in Amsterdam and I’m so happy we landed on this one. We had impeccable service, delicious food and drinks and I really could not have asked for more. if you’re looking for Indonesian food in Amsterdam look no further! Our favorites were the fish in banana leave, the vegetarian sampler app, and the satay, but I do not think you can go wrong. We also really enjoyed our dessert which was a spice cake with orange sorbet.

I don’t understand what the fuss was about. Everything was unremarkable. The wine wasn’t properly chilled, the meat was indifferently, prepared, and the spices weren’t different from what I could get at the toko down the street. I can’t believe we paid so much for basically cafeteria food.

I hosted an executive and customer dinner with this group and we had an incredible experience! Avijit and his team were wonderful from start to finish--very responsive, accommodating and asked all the right questions to make sure the evening was a successful. Once aboard, the service and food were absolutely exceptional, everyone was extremely pleased. The layout was a little tight but that is the nature of the boats in general for these kinds of experiences. I would definitely hire Avijit and his team again!

My husband and I went here to cap off the end of our honeymoon, and we had a wonderful experience between the food and the cocktails. We ordered the "Sultan and I" menu, which was very filling for two very hungry adults, while also being presented quite artfully both in the plating and the waiter's introduction of each dish. The cocktails were excellent; we had the Love and Lemons, the Karma, the Dark N' Stormy (which unfolds in a really striking way flavorwise), and a She Said Gym, I Heard Gin. Could not have asked for a nicer sendoff.

We had a large group dinner here and the food and drinks were delicious. The owner and waiter were both very nice.

Having heard about this restaurant for several years I was excited to be able to finally visit, and I was not disappointed! It is an intimate venue, with exceptionally well trained staff who are also excited about the food that they serve, and can talk you through each of the different flavors and pairings. The owner clearly has a passion for food and ensuring a fine dining experience, and is an excellent sommelier who made the perfect recommendation. I loved the starter plate which had a combination of different flavors in the form of small bites, the most outstanding of which was the fire roasted watermelon. We then enjoyed fish in wrapped in banana leaf and while I'm not a fish person per se, I loved the spicing and it was perfectly cooked. This was followed by roast guineafowl, a venison rendang which was delicious, and my favorite, a spicy shrimp with lemongrass flavoring. For dessert, I was treated to a totally new experience. On top of the mango ice cream, there was a tiny bud of a flower which I believe was called a Szechuan flower. I was instructed to chew on this for several seconds to release the flavor, which was like an explosion in my mouth. I was then told to take a bite of the ice cream. The effect of the flower was to cleanse the palate so that when I tasted the mango, it was like burst of intense flavor. Wow! I would highly recommend that if you visit Amsterdam you visit this restaurant. It was an outstanding introduction to Indonesian flavors with a twist.

I had a fantastic meal at Blue Pepper in November 2024. Every single element of every course was delicious. I had 'The Sultan and I" tasting menu and it was varied in flavour and had far more nuance than usual Indonesian rice tables. I didn't like the strong fishy first course so they swapped this for something else, minced lanb and millet, which was superb. Everything was perfectly cooked, from the vegetables to the slow cooked beef stew and everything in between. I forgot to photograph the desserts but they were super too, I loved their signature fresh sechaun pepper corn / sorbet combo. The whole meal took 2 hours which was the perfect amount of time for me.

TLDR: Todo fue fantástico, y sin duda volveré cuando esté en Amsterdam!

Modern Indonesian fusion cuisine in a very subdued and elegant atmosphere. Food was delicious, but if you are expecting a rijstafel with a huge variety of dishes and a more boisterous atmosphere, this is not the restaurant for you.

Welcoming, clean environment with a refined design. Deep customer focus and professionalism in service. Excellent wine pairing. We will be back!!

We so enjoyed a delicious meal here on a cool Sunday night. Part of our group had the coursed meal with wine pairing while the other in the group ordered a la carte. The staff and owner were gracious and passionate about the food. Very cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

The food was very good. The reason I can't give 5 stars is I've had better food at these prices - specifically, sushi tasting menus. If you're going to try for a high end tasting dish experience, unfortunately the expectations are exponentially higher. What they do get right is the service and presentation of the meal, which I have no issues with. I ordered the Indian x Indonesian tasting menu. The base ingredients are mostly plants which cost little. The fish tasted like any other curried fish I've had before, though it was still very tasty. The main meal (guinea fowl) came with just white rice. I'm wondering if more imagination could have been used here for the accompaniments? I'd also prefer if the meat was off the bone, and there wasn't enough sauce for the rice. The sauce was delicious though. The sorbet does not do well with chunks of ice in it, and the cake was rather plain, though I recognise the texture as unique in a style of baking Western people don't tend to use. Of course this is all picking at small things, but I thought I'd balance the rave reviews here. Overall still happy I went, but if I were to go again I'd just order the guinea fowl and seafood soup.

This is the best Indonesian food I’ve had in Amsterdam. The dishes are creative, beautiful, and spiced with interesting flavors. The lamb chops were so good, our table ordered seconds.

We had an amazing meal at the restaurant the other night. We each chose the tasting menu (one meat and one vegetarian) and every dish was so well thought out and presented!! The flavors were completely on point. The dessert surprise was delightful!!! It’s hard to describe but we would recommend it completely. Our best meal in Amsterdam. The atmosphere was beautiful and hospitality was attentive and helpful. We felt very well taken care of during the entire meal. Will definitely return

We had an amazing experience on the Blue Pepper Amsterdam Canal cruise! From the moment we boarded, everything was perfect — a warm welcome with champagne, a deliciously presented dinner, and a beautiful, quiet electric boat. Cruising the canals was the ideal way to see Amsterdam, and Blue Pepper made it truly unforgettable. Highly recommended!

We celebrated my daughter’s 16th birthday while in Amsterdam. I was looking for somewhere special to take her for dinner. I emailed the restaurant for a reservation before we left for vacation and they promptly replied with their availability. We decided to have the Indonesian Rijsttafel. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The seafood soup was a favorite for everyone. The staff was so kind and even made a special birthday dessert for my daughter. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy an extra special meal.
