We had a large group dinner here and the food and drinks were delicious. The owner and waiter were both very nice.

Having heard about this restaurant for several years I was excited to be able to finally visit, and I was not disappointed! It is an intimate venue, with exceptionally well trained staff who are also excited about the food that they serve, and can talk you through each of the different flavors and pairings. The owner clearly has a passion for food and ensuring a fine dining experience, and is an excellent sommelier who made the perfect recommendation. I loved the starter plate which had a combination of different flavors in the form of small bites, the most outstanding of which was the fire roasted watermelon. We then enjoyed fish in wrapped in banana leaf and while I'm not a fish person per se, I loved the spicing and it was perfectly cooked. This was followed by roast guineafowl, a venison rendang which was delicious, and my favorite, a spicy shrimp with lemongrass flavoring. For dessert, I was treated to a totally new experience. On top of the mango ice cream, there was a tiny bud of a flower which I believe was called a Szechuan flower. I was instructed to chew on this for several seconds to release the flavor, which was like an explosion in my mouth. I was then told to take a bite of the ice cream. The effect of the flower was to cleanse the palate so that when I tasted the mango, it was like burst of intense flavor. Wow! I would highly recommend that if you visit Amsterdam you visit this restaurant. It was an outstanding introduction to Indonesian flavors with a twist.

We wanted to have a very special evening both in terms of culinary experience and service we were so satisfied by both . The attention to details combined with succulent dishes and fantastic service and attitude made us very very happy. The staff was wonderful. I can only say praises .

I had a fantastic meal at Blue Pepper in November 2024. Every single element of every course was delicious. I had 'The Sultan and I" tasting menu and it was varied in flavour and had far more nuance than usual Indonesian rice tables. I didn't like the strong fishy first course so they swapped this for something else, minced lanb and millet, which was superb. Everything was perfectly cooked, from the vegetables to the slow cooked beef stew and everything in between. I forgot to photograph the desserts but they were super too, I loved their signature fresh sechaun pepper corn / sorbet combo. The whole meal took 2 hours which was the perfect amount of time for me.

Un gran hallazgo para nuestra primera noche en Amsterdam. Un lugar especial.

The cuisine is exceptional ~ if you are craving a lot of flavor coupled with fresh food look no further. This was my fourth dining experience at the Blue Pepper. It's a must stop for me when I am passing through Amsterdam. Each time it has been so tasty and always accompanied by curated wines to pair with the delicious cuisine. The service is so accommodating and friendly. Their vegetarian and seafood offerings are truly scrumptious. The atmosphere is comfortable, relaxing and intimate. Thanks to the Waldorf Astoria concierge who originally introduced us to this hidden gem.

Creative and tasty modern interpretation of traditional Indonesian rijs tafel. Very helpful and attentive service. Possibility to combine menus, eg I chose a pescatarian combination of standard and vegetarian dishes.

Nuestra cena realmente no podría haber sido mejor. Desde el principio, el personal era increíblemente amable y servicial. Debido a que estábamos llegando un poco tarde y otra fiesta llegó temprano, en lugar de ser asientos escalonados, el restaurante se llenó de golpe. Nunca he sido fan de la caballa ahumada, pero la forma en que lo hicieron fue increíble. ¿Y esa mousse por la que era tan escéptica? Soñaré con ello durante los próximos años. Desde los entrantes hasta el postre, todo fue maravilloso. En cuanto a las bebidas, me intrigó el cóctel Karma ("¡Te servirán lo que te mereces!") y tuve que probarlo. No voy a arruinar la sorpresa, pero diré que se le pide que elija el tipo de alcohol, y que disfruté mucho el mío. ¡Pruébalo, no te decepcionará! TLDR: Todo fue fantástico, y sin duda volveré cuando esté en Amsterdam!

Modern Indonesian fusion cuisine in a very subdued and elegant atmosphere. Food was delicious, but if you are expecting a rijstafel with a huge variety of dishes and a more boisterous atmosphere, this is not the restaurant for you.

We so enjoyed a delicious meal here on a cool Sunday night. Part of our group had the coursed meal with wine pairing while the other in the group ordered a la carte. The staff and owner were gracious and passionate about the food. Very cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

This is the best Indonesian food I’ve had in Amsterdam. The dishes are creative, beautiful, and spiced with interesting flavors. The lamb chops were so good, our table ordered seconds.

The food was very good. The reason I can't give 5 stars is I've had better food at these prices - specifically, sushi tasting menus. If you're going to try for a high end tasting dish experience, unfortunately the expectations are exponentially higher. What they do get right is the service and presentation of the meal, which I have no issues with. I ordered the Indian x Indonesian tasting menu. The base ingredients are mostly plants which cost little. The fish tasted like any other curried fish I've had before, though it was still very tasty. The main meal (guinea fowl) came with just white rice. I'm wondering if more imagination could have been used here for the accompaniments? I'd also prefer if the meat was off the bone, and there wasn't enough sauce for the rice. The sauce was delicious though. The sorbet does not do well with chunks of ice in it, and the cake was rather plain, though I recognise the texture as unique in a style of baking Western people don't tend to use. Of course this is all picking at small things, but I thought I'd balance the rave reviews here. Overall still happy I went, but if I were to go again I'd just order the guinea fowl and seafood soup.

We had an amazing meal at the restaurant the other night. We each chose the tasting menu (one meat and one vegetarian) and every dish was so well thought out and presented!! The flavors were completely on point. The dessert surprise was delightful!!! It’s hard to describe but we would recommend it completely. Our best meal in Amsterdam. The atmosphere was beautiful and hospitality was attentive and helpful. We felt very well taken care of during the entire meal. Will definitely return

We had an amazing experience on the Blue Pepper Amsterdam Canal cruise! From the moment we boarded, everything was perfect — a warm welcome with champagne, a deliciously presented dinner, and a beautiful, quiet electric boat. Cruising the canals was the ideal way to see Amsterdam, and Blue Pepper made it truly unforgettable. Highly recommended!

We celebrated my daughter’s 16th birthday while in Amsterdam. I was looking for somewhere special to take her for dinner. I emailed the restaurant for a reservation before we left for vacation and they promptly replied with their availability. We decided to have the Indonesian Rijsttafel. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The seafood soup was a favorite for everyone. The staff was so kind and even made a special birthday dessert for my daughter. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy an extra special meal.

Everything was up to par! Reccomend it to everyone in need of a good experience! 10/10 will be back soon!

Our group of 10 friends had a wonderful experience on the Blue Pepper Amsterdam Canal cruise. From the moment we boarded the beautiful boat everything was superb. We were greeted with a glass of champagne. Dinner was delicious and so beautifully presented. The boat was electric and quiet as a whisper. A canal cruise is truly the best way to see Amsterdam. Blue Pepper has set the bar very high for the rest of our trip.

Excellent restaurant, delicious cuisine and one of the best quality/price ratios in Amsterdam. We went there with the whole visiting family (10 people) from Italy: very fussy about food and not used to other cuisines. Abu delighted us with dishes that everyone agreed on. We will be back for sure!

This was the first time I tried Indonesian food, and I would go back in a heartbeat. I ordered the rijstaffel, and each unique dish packed a completely different, delicious flavor. One of my best meals of the year! The service was excellent.

Small little bistro (mb seating 40) with wonderful indonesian food.Last night, dinner at one of my favorite Amsterdam restaurants, Blue Pepper. An Indonesian restaurant. It starts with a codfish avocado mousse with a splattering of fresh piquant peppers. The spiciness is cooked by the other items on the plate, a tropical fruit salad flavored with tamarind and a tartlet of grilled watermelon with white and black sesame seeds all served with a wine pairing of Pouilly Fume. The second course was curried fish baked in a banana leaf. Served with Javanese vegetables. Again, the fish was spicier, sharper and more vibrant, what i like to call bright, and the Javanese veggies cooled the fire right down. Third course was guineas fowl served with rice and a mild curry. Totally delicious and all the flavors meshed seamlessly with the fowl and the red wine pairing--a red Loire valley wine. Desert was grapes, a sumatran cake with cardamon and cinnamon, and sorbet. A nice half-bottle of sauterne went perfectly. I love this restaurant, and this time i thought as good as it always is, it was better. It called to mind a movie, Tortilla Soup, where Hector elizondo feel in love with his youngest daughter's cooking at the end of the movie. He had lost his sense of taste until her spicy renditions of Mexican dishes re-awoke his taste buds. My tastebuds are fine, but the brightness of the dishes on my palate was equally appreciated. The owner has always remembered me and his out of his way to make you feel like a guest in his home.

We both ordered different menus - all the dishes were very authentic and some were real explosions of taste. The service was very attentive and good advice. We would like to come again.

Excellent food and service! Everything was so flavorful and delicious. The vegetable appetizer (picture) was incredible - it was so interesting with many different complex flavors. Also had the venison biryani which was delicious.

Amsterdam has many many good options for ristaffel, and these folks are offering a higher end multi course tasting menu interpretaion (along with optional wine pairings - recommended!), including vegetarian options. 20yrs in place, and still a 'hidden gem', in a quiet area slightly out of main tourist center. The best meal I have had for the money in a very, very long time; although everything I had was extremely good, perhaps the Seafood Soup was the standout for me. Stunning tastes, creative culinary ideas, cozy high end funky decor, *lovely* staff, exceptionally reasonable prices. What more do you people want - just go!!!!

Don't eat here if you're vegetarian. There's only one veggie option per course, and the main was €24 for a disappointing dish. A huge load of rice with not enough topping/sauce - and the toppings there were weren't very interesting.

So this is another old-fashioned tourist trap. Very average to bad. Fancy high flyer dishes on the menu, but as soon as it is served, the guys from Blauwe Peper really do a great job. Reheated, glassy mess first class. Dare to ask for the top prize as if you were almost eating at a star tent. Bah! And shame...Very sad!!!!

World class food. This is a Michelin rated without the stars as yet. If I go back to Amsterdam, I will definitely go back.

Lovely, hospitable people and amazing food. Indonesian food with other Asian influences and some experimental touches; overall a fine dining experience. I do think that, comparing it to other restaurants with set menus, they would perhaps get more people to try their food if their menu was maybe 10% or 15% cheaper.

I went there after hearing a friend raved about the terrific food. I went alone and didn’t have a reservation, but they were kind enough to accommodate me. I chose the Sultan and I, 4 course meal option. Each of the food items were perfect size, wonderfully flavorful and beautifully presents. The Indian surprise was in the dessert. What made the experience even more enjoyable was my server, Abu, he was attentive and patiently explained what each item were and how to best to eat them to experience the full flavors. Highly recommend the delightful experience to all.

I had the pleasure of dining at this unique restaurant that combines Indonesian, and Dutch flavors. The rijstaffel was a delightful journey through various dishes, and the grilled watermelon was a surprisingly delicious highlight. The edible flower Szechuan in the dessert was a delightful touch that added to the overall experience. What truly stood out, though, was the excellent service. The staff's attention to detail and friendly demeanor made the evening truly memorable. I highly recommend this restaurant for a one-of-a-kind culinary adventure.

Was looking for a vegan "fine dining" restaurant in Amsterdam, so we stumbled upon this online. I can hands down say that the 5 course "Beautiful People" had some of the best dishes I ever ate, and with the Service being fun and attentive, the experience itself just got so much better. I can really recommend this. A la carte is also a possibilty if one doesnt want to go for a full course Menu. The winemenu is also very good and one will for sure find a matching wine for the delicious food.

It was our first time having Indonesian food and the restaurant exceeded our expectations. The taste, variety, and presentation of food was exceptional. So was the service and interaction with the staff. Highly recommend this place!

We went there as a couples dinner and had an exclusive experience! Great service, nice and well balanced dishes. We both took the 5 course Rijstafeln. Not cheap but it is worth it! An extra plus for the eatable flower on top of the dessert that makes your mouth buzz! We will definately remember this dinner.

Excellent modern take on Indonesian cuisine. Stylish interior with with helpful staff who spent time to explain the dishes on offer. Flavorful food rather than simply spicy/hot for the sake of it. We concentrated on the veggie/fish options and were certainly well catered for. Good Negroni and first rate Viognier. Price reflects qualify of the food and whole experience!

Food was very good, but if you’re looking for ‘classic’ Indonesian cuisine this is not really it. The ‘spicy’ dishes were not very spicy. Recommended wine they served us was disappointing. Service was attentive but also rather unusual, with communication awkward at times. Bathroom was not clean and restaurant interior seems to not live up to the food. I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. Perhaps they have recently changed owners? Food is good but can’t whole-heartedly recommend based on my dining experience.

It was a true pleasure to get in this restaurant. Waiters are very welcoming, and the cooking is amazing. The work on the tastes is incredible between spices and fine and light-tasted preparation.

Wonderful and innovative take on Indonesian food.

Visiting this restaurant was such a pleasure. Everything we ordered from appetizers to deserts was made to perfection. The 3 glasses of wine were paired with the meal perfectly. You have to try their grilled watermelon. It looks bizarre but tastes very good. The other surprise was the sorbet topped with a szechuan button flower. It creates an explosion in your mouth, but the sorbet calmes your taste buds down to a very pleasant feeling. This is definitely not a traditional Indonesian cuisine, but it is worth trying.

We had a lovely meal. The music was particularly good and the service personal and attentive. I did expect a more elevated take on Indonesian cuisine, hence my 4 star rating.

Unique and tasteful experience, highly recommended! The restaurant sits central in Amsterdam and easy to reach. Immediately when you walk in you feel calm and welcome. This is because the music in the background plays decently and is being supported by the nice atmosphere created by the light and shadow effects. Our waiter Michu provided very enjoyable and friendly evening. The atmosphere was great. We would not have thought about asking for more. We ordered the Videotype and the 3-Wine menu to go with it. The food was nothing but amazing. The serving of the wine matched perfectly with the dishes. We liked the duck and the seafood soup the most but to just to point out: Evert meal was unique and tasty. We give the resturant 5/5 because the "creations" tasted very good, the atmosphere was awesome, the restaurant has a great look and the waiter was super friendly! The price to performance ratio is a 1:1. By that we want to say that the experience was worth its price. The restaurant is a must-see for those who like to experience the Asian kitchen on a different level.

Exceptional food. We had never had Indonesian before and totally blown away. Although we were told it was not completely authentic and had a modern twist, we really can’t fault the regural set menu at all. Every dish was perfectly seasoned and delicious with the service and staff being stand out. Thank you so much!

We went here at the last minute, but didn't realise they only had 3x set menus with very fancy sounding dishes. It wasn't quite what we had in mind, so we left without ordering. The staff were friendly, but I can't comment on the food since we left before eating. I'm sure it would have been lovely on another occasion.

Fine dining, Asian cuisine with a twist. There is no a la carte menu, you can choose from three options of menus, all of them including amouse bouche, appetizer, soup, main course and dessert. one of the three options is vegetarian. The service is nice, the waiters explain every dish when they serve it to you. The food is exquisite and totally deserves the price.

Heerlijk gegeten! Echt verrassend! Een aanrader en ik ga zeker ooit weer terug. We hadden maar een uur om te eten maar konden ipv de 5 gangen ook alleen voor het hoofdgerecht kiezen en dat was heerlijk! We zaten bommetje vol! Dank voor de goede service!
