Delicious food!! Still just as good as it was 30 years ago. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, with a joke here and there. The decor hasn't changed; it's wonderfully authentic. Definitely recommended!!

Peanut sauce on the Satay was the only saving grace and that’s bc everything else was so bad in comparison. Main dishes were bland and did not come out hot (we were the only tables so shouldn’t be an excuse). Owner started an attitude when our group said we’re sharing plates. Not friendly, unfortunately. Avoid unless you don’t have a preference for mid food while traveling!

20+ euro per dish that’s not enough for a snack. Extremely small portion with lukewarm temperature food. The owner was not happy when we decided to share dishes because we want it as a small in between meal.

We went for a light dinner and decided to order dishes and share. The man serving did not look pleased with our plan and reminded us that one dish is for one person. After serving, we had to ask twice, for additional quarter plates. Further it is unacceptable that we had to buy water (we had also ordered beer) as they refused tap water. Food was OK. Small portions, expensive and poor service.

Wanted to go to the lady's toilet as the men's were busy. Got refused from the waitress. Then the waiter has nothing to do with Indonesia. Spicy sauce is Chinese sauce and not indonesian. The food is good but no taste from Indonesian cuisine at all. So for expensive food go there, it's good. For indonesian touch, please avoid going there as this is not indonesian good.

A very cozy, small restaurant. Detailed, friendly service in excellent English. Charging outlets are available. The dishes are very flavorful. While they may be rather exotic for the typical European, those who try something new can experience something truly outstanding. A fantastic taste experience.

The staff was really nice, the food was great and we had the best time ever. Nice ambiance, funny waiter and we had just a big laugh.

The food was fantastic: the rice was delicious, and the chicken was superbly seasoned and prepared with excellent care. The drinks were also excellent. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.

We are meeting our friends from spain who just visit Amsterdam and choose Bojo for eat. The Ayam Rujak is goed and tasty. The staff is also very nice.

The photos of all the dishes on the website look excellent and appetizing! We had soto ayam as a starter and nasi rames speciaal and nasi kuning as a main course. Note: the sajoer beans tasted like canned green beans. The chicken satay and peanut sauce seem to have been working overtime. Many reviews say it deserves 5 stars, but as someone who grew up with and has experience with Javanese cuisine, I expected more.

The ambience is good, service is excellent and the most important is the foods are great. I ordered Ayam Rujak, Sate Ayam, Nasi Goreng, Pangsit Goreng and Nasi Kuning, all are yummies! Wish you great success and continued growth in the future.

Literally the rudest service and most unfriendly waiter I have ever seen even I could not stay for the meal

The waitress was a complete disgrace. Instead of doing the bare minimum and taking the ashtray inside to clean it, she dumped ashes and cigarette butts right on the ground next to our table like it was a trash can. Filthy and disgusting. She couldn’t care less about customers, walking around with headphones in like she was too busy for the job. When the food arrived, she didn’t serve it — she slammed the plates down with a passive-aggressive attitude that screamed “I don’t want you here.” This place clearly doesn’t care about hygiene, respect, or basic decency. Avoid it like the plague.

We came here around 10pm as it said it was closing at 11:00pm. They were closing up early as it was a slower night but still let us dine in. However we felt rushed to order and leave which was a little disappointing. Otherwise, food was great, and everything came quickly. We had the chicken satay with the rice and noodles and also had the soup and all were great flavours. The sauce for the chicken was soo good!

We were excited to try some Indonesian food in AMS, since Indonesia was our last trip together. We arrived about 5 mins after opening, popped our head inside to ask if they were ready for customers, and if we could sit on the patio. We were responded to with an impatient-sounding "yeah". We had to move the menu stand about 3 inches to pull a chair out far enough to sit in (my husband has a broken foot in a cast, which takes a little extra room). The American-accented server appeared with earbuds in, said nothing as she laid out cutlery, then in an impatient tone of voice said "next time can you ask before moving things?" I apologized and pointed out my husband's cast, said we'd needed a little extra room. Instead of acknowledging the accessibility reasons for what we did, she doubled down and said "that's fine, just next time ask first... " and then in a condescending tone, "respectfully." I understand maybe she was having a bad day, or was hoping not to get customers so soon into her shift, but if this was our first impression of the service we were going to get, we decided not to stick around. Can't speak for the food - maybe it's great.

The food was excellent. The prices were reasonable. The service was terrible, and the feedback wasn't complaints. Educate your waitress. That's why this restaurant doesn't deserve more than 4 stars. Avoid the tea; it's a rip-off.

Bojo used to be an iconic place. Not so much for the quality of the food though. Being Indo’s (Dutch Indonesians) we realised it didn’t compare to what our grandmothers and mothers used to serve at home. But the fact that you could get a decent and affordable meal at 5 AM(!) made this the place to be when we were young. Especially after a cheerful night with friends/fellow students. After more than 2 decades we happened to be in the neighbourhood - this time around 9 PM - and decided to pay Bojo a visit, more or less for old times sake. It turned out very disappointing. We tried several dishes and they all tasted quite poorly, even basics like ‘katjang’ sauce (peanut sauce) and ‘sambal goreng boontjes’ (yuk, the green beans were mushy!). And their ‘tjendol’ - an iconic Indonesian drink made of pandan leaves, coconut milk and palm sugar - was truly the worst we ever had. Whoever stands in the kitchen lost his/her mojo. The spirit of Bojo is gone. What’s left is a typical tourist trap. In our opinion the food that’s being served is a disgrace to the Indonesian/Indo cuisine. We will not take this trip down Memory Lane again. Ever.

The portion sizes were small and the food was so-so

We left still hungry. The portions of the food and drinks are small and the food was also quite uninteresting. We got boiled cabbage and bean sprouts, my friend also had beans and I had tofu. Then a sauce, which was ok. And we shared a small plate of rice. We had to have a discussion about the rice to get some more. After, we went to get more food elsewhere. I'm not going here again. The place hasn't changed since the 80s and to me, that's not a good thing.

Returned after 35 years to enjoy the Sate Kambing again. What a disappointment!! Meat was tough, hard, overcooked. The ketjap sauce was very mediocre and the peanut sauce probably came straight from the 'wholesale bucket'. In addition, the service was completely uninterested. A typical 'tourist trap'. The daily changing audience does ensure permanent customers. Such a shame. In the past, a delicious satay after a visit to the cinema was a regular occurrence .. unfortunately ..

A bit too touristy, but well done. Had a bami ramas special. Meat okay. Satay and sauce a bit bland. Let me put it this way. Quite tasty food but definitely had better elsewhere.

This place had such an amazing vibe overall. Food was amazing, service was impeccable. I got the Ayam Roedjak, perfect amount of spice (I am not a white woman!!). Most of the dishes have a vegetarian alternative so anyone can come here!!!

The food was very good. The lamb was a little stiff. The service was just okay. By 8:30 pm, there were only two tables left in the restaurant, so the atmosphere was pretty chilly. The music was a bit too loud and had nothing to do with Indonesia, but more American R&B standards.

Bojo is one of those rare places where you can really taste the flavours of Indonesian cuisine as they were meant to be. Authentic dishes, richly spiced and prepared with care. The rendang and gado-gado are highly recommended, and the sambal also tastes homemade and full of character. The atmosphere is relaxed and warm — you feel welcome from the moment you enter. A small downside: the interior is a bit simple and could exude even more charm with a little freshening up. But for those who come for the food and the hospitality, Bojo is an excellent choice.

Been there for 60 years and still delicious!

Last day in Amsterdam. We did not expect a lot from a restaurant near Leidseplein (normally equals touristtrap) but this was the best meal we had all vacation. Authentic flavours, affordable price and the owner was supernice. We had ramen special (mini-rijstavel).

To get started we ordered a couple starters and water- I now know there were signs on the wall saying no tap water, but when I asked for water the server didn’t mention this, nor did he ask what kind of water we wanted- he just went and brought us two mineral waters that were £3.50 each (there is the option for still or sparkling and he didn’t even ask which of those we wanted- he opened the bottles and brought it to us) when we mentioned that we didn’t want those he said well they don’t supply tap water and he had already opened the bottles so we couldn’t get out of it. Very scammy feeling! On top of that, we’ve had Indonesian food many times before- the starters we got were completely lacking in any flavour and incredibly overpriced for what we got, and after the water situation we decided it would be best just to leave. Would not recommend since there’s so much they don’t communicate to you that’s just a surprise at the end. When we were ready to leave we found out we had to pay cash if it was under £65 - another annoying hiccup that should have been clarified to us upon arrival. Thankfully we had a little extra cash on us to pay the £22 (for two waters and the meagre, disappointing food we got) and got the heck outta there but genuinely, worst experience here so far!

My friends and I went into the Bojo because we wanted to try something new, and it did not dissapoint! We ordered the Nasi Ramen Speciaal, Soto Ayam en Daging Rendag and shared it. We would love to come again, the service was lovely and the vibes are very cozy 🤍

Bojo was once the place for Indonesian cuisine. But that seems like a long time ago when you now enter Bojo in deLange Leidsedwarsstraat 49. There's not much that's authentic about fake banana leaves stapled to the walls. And certainly not the risolle or nasi rames. The risolle is moderately filled without a pronounced Indonesian flavor and the sauce seems to come from a bottle purchased from Sligro. The nasi rames had a particularly bland taste. The stew was tender, but it also deserved more pronounced flavors. When paying, it turned out that the offer of ordering before 6 p.m. no longer applied and the dish was charged at full price. This experience is really a shame, because I was really looking forward to it. Perhaps it is due to the tourist fast food consumer society in this area that quantity (the more place settings sold the better) takes precedence over quality. Very disappointing!

I would not recommend this restaurant. We were there tonight. We both ordered the mini rijstaffel. The meat (beef and lamb) was virtually inedible it was so tough. I struggled to get half of it down and then gave up leaving the rest on the plane. Service was terribly slow taking the order and after he brought the food, we didn’t see him again until I asked for the bill, so, a rating of “poor overall.” Although I believe the owner/server understood my comments about the food, he was unable to offer any explanation or alternative in English as he was the only one there, Very disappointing evening

Came here on an empty night— very good Indonesian food! We got the Nasi Goreng and the Nasi Rames. Both were good but we liked the Nasi Goreng most because of the flavors and spice :) I would recommend this place if you want to get Indonesian food in the area! Service was nice too! The credit card system was down when we went so may be a good idea to ask beforehand just in case

Delicious Indonesian food. The menu wasn’t too big, but had great satay skewers especially the peanut sauce. The Nasi Goreng was perfectly spiced.

A spontaneous day trip to Amsterdam from the far north. To round off a great day in always beautiful and vibrant Amsterdam, we had a delicious meal in our regular restaurant Bojo There where you are always welcomed hospitably and with a smile. Where you enter an authentic restaurant with a warm atmosphere and friendly staff. And the food is delicious every time... Enjoyed again...

Mediocre dishes. Completely standard and without any personality, everything with flat taste, starters served with kind of plain tomato sauce, lacking any spiced oriental flavour. The man in the restaurant was non-helpful at all with the selection of dishes and the interaction with him was uncorfortable, cold and distant. Prices high for the poor quality served. An experience to forget. Don’t make the mistake of eating here , with the many interesting restaurants you can find in the city.

Delicious food! I got the bami Rames Speciaal and it was so good. It has a variety of smaller dishes and they are all very good! Big portion and well worth the cost. Def going to come again!

I got the Daging Rendang and it was spectacular! The beef was tender and not too spicy. The shrimp crackers were also a big hit. Everyone in our group cleared our plates, highly recommend.

The three of us were here on Christmas Day. The restaurant seemed authentic, but overall seemed a bit dated, which I didn't think was a big deal. The food was excellent. If it wasn't spicy enough, there was an option at every table to add more seasoning. The price was appropriate for the quality. The service was friendly and accommodating. I would go again.

This is definetly westernized indo food. Most likely reheated premade food. Its good for my white tastebuds, but lacks indo authenticity. Staff is friendly but not helpful in giving information about the dishes. Its very dimm.

My wife and I just visited here on our few day trip in Amsterdam and all I can say is, WOW!!! Great and elevated flavours that were homemade but complex and absolutely delicious. I feel that this is a restaurant that might scare some but I can tell you as a Chef of 21 Years, open your mind to Indonesian Flavours and experience. My wife ordered the Mackerel on special, so a bit bony but nothing you wouldn’t expect from a Mackerel. Absolutely delightful find, I’d say a happy 10/10 with an owner that is unbelievably respectful.

This place has been open for over 25 years! My father used to go here when he was a student and now I come here too. Really cute Indonesian restaurant. Great food and service. 100% recommend!
